- Wanted to explain some of the norwegian consepts that are presented in the SKAM-series for the rest of the world that now has their eyes open to the series! Let me know if you have questions about anything else in the series! :)
Eplaining the LUREMUS a little more: Cause girls gets called luremus even though it was never their intention to have sex in the first place. The guys only interpret everything wrong.

The language I'm teaching is not Bokmål nor Nynorsk. It's an Oslo-dialect and I don't think you will have much problem with bokmål after this. :) And everyone will understand this.

this is so helpful! I've been learning some Norwegian because of the show, but any websites that teach it teach formal phrases and vocabulary, not slang and other common phrases. I'm definitely going to keep watching your videos! :)
Thank you so much! It was relatively easy to learn English slang because the entire internet is basically English - however just phrases or sayings from Norway are much more difficult to come across and then understand how to use. And since Skam is full of teenage slang it's a great example to use! Anyway, looking forward to more of these.
I have been watching Skam since the beginning and it has really helped with my learning! However, there is a lot of slang and my Norwegian friends don't always know how to explain everything! This video really helps and I hope you make more of them!!

this is so cool!!! ive been trying to learn Norwegian for a while now and i felt like not understanding slang was holding me back a bit so its cool to watch something like this as an aid to learning formal grammar and make me feel more comfortable and submerged in the language/culture

Norwegian Teacher - Karin actually I like her because she's so beautiful and naive at the same time. Sana is also amazing: being Muslim myself I really appreciate the fact that a Muslim woman is being granted a main role almost a leadership role in a TV show ! It is a very good thing to "de dramatised" the "Muslim question" with such tv show... It can ' really help fresh immigrants or their descendant to identify themselves and find thir place in the Norwich society. I'm right now watching the second season and look forward for the fourth one.... And thanks to you I'm considering learning norwegian as a fourth language besides German! Thanks and keep doing what you are doing. Norway is a fantastic country as Germany. Hope to visit it one day.... Greetings from Marseille France!

"Vorspiel" in German does absolutely not mean the pre-party! The pre-party in German is called "Vorglühen", which means something like to heat/warm up. However "Vorspiel" is mainly used in terms of sex.
Jan, with utter amplification on *mainly*. Vorspiel is in wide use in german everyday language, from music to sport and there in between religion. It mainly interpret to "action before the main event"... All though you're right about "vors" and how it is used in Norwegian directly translate to meet up at somebody's home drinking before going to a party, it means more than exactly that. (Germans wouldn't even understand the concept even though they've got a word for it) Gathering in small parties at different places with the motive to meet the at main party adds more than being drunk at arrival. Thus, vorspiel absolutely means pre-party in context of Feierlichkeiten which is exactly what's spoken about in this video.
Oddly enough, the neighboring word, nachspiel is not mentioned even though it is much more common. "Nachspiel" is most commonly used without slang and no translation. Even though Nach is after (etter) and spiel is (game) spill, in Norwegian. Norwegians have adopted this word as their own. To be more precise one should rather call it Nachtspiel as such parties without exception will happen at night, preferably after the nightclubs close. Pardon me for being almost clueless about the series Skam, but are there really no Nachtspiel in there? In that case the author needs a reality check about Norway.
Well, thank you for instructing me on my mother tongue! I am German and therefor perfectly clear about the meaning and use of "Vorspiel" in the German language. Of course you can use "Vorspiel" in other terms than sex, but that's the subject where it derives from. If you use it in another context, it always comes with a slight coquettish undertone, which is intended to crack a joke or at least make somebody smile. "Vorspiel" is almost never used correctly in terms of music. What you might mix up with is "Vorspielen", the event of playing in front of a jury. You sometimes find "Vorspiel" in theatre, where it is used like "Vorspiel auf dem Theater". Here it stands for a short scene at the beginning of a play, like an intro.
Germans never use "Vorspiel" in terms of sports. I can't even think of a word or situation that might have led to this idea. Furthermore, I can assure you, that using "Vorspiel" in the context of "Feierlichkeiten" is definitely not correct at all and would cause major bewilderment among native speakers.
However "Nachspiel" is quite commonly used in the German language, mainly to describe that something will have (bad (legal)) consequences. If somebody says to you: "Das hat ein noch Nachspiel!" it means, that you really pissed him/her off and that you will find yourself in trouble soon.
I have never heard the word "Nachtspiel" in German and neither have the people around me.
As it is always possible in German to create new words by combining single nouns, the two words "Nacht" = night and "Spiel" = game, match could be combined to a correct sounding word. However, I'm afraid to say that apart from a football match, that takes place in the middle of the night, I couldn't think of a situation where this word would make sense at all.
Actually the Norwegian use of the German words "Vorspiel" and "Nachspiel" puzzle Norwegian linguists. They seem to have been in use since the 1930's - but with a completely different meaning than the German originals.
The logical Norwegian words would have been "førfest" and "etterfest". In many countries you won't need words for these phenomenons. They don't exist. In Norway they do, it's got to do with prices of alcohol and opening hours.
But why pick German words - and give them a totally different meaning?
It's unique. And a mystery.
As far as I understand she said what it means in Norwegian and said that the word comes from the German 'Vorspiel', but didn't imply it means the exact same thing in Modern German as 'vors' does in norsk.
She didn't say anything about German. She said what Vors means in Norwegian and then added spiel.
The Jeg fikk 5'er is interesting because we have numbers in Austrian schools as well. Except there a 5 means you failed and a 1 means you did everything right. I love your channel by the way. I'm trying to learn Norsk using Duolingo and your channel gives me a lot of context.

Russ means, "remove the horn". A horn the students got placed in their forehead after the final exam at the gymnasium (high school) was taken and should be carried until the result was revealed. If the student passed, the horn would be removed. This tradition goes all the way back to old ancient Greece. Funny enough, Gymnasium was discontinued in the original form which included emphasis on physical activity, already in the fifties, thus there is not really such thing as russ in Norway anymore, but the tradition survived the public school reformation. Many countries in Europe still have the traditional gymnasiums, but still haven't anything similar to the Norwegian russ celebration. The horn part of the tradition is also gone. At last a funny fact. In Norway russ celebration has gone out of control and many politicians suggest the celebration is moved after the exams. Their suggestion is in fact the only way to be in line with the tradition. There is no such thing as horn in your forehead before you have taken the exams and the russ celebration refers to the time from when you get the horn until you get it removed. The only way I can see this possible is by moving the national day, 17 of May, five weeks, to 24 of June. It would be a good move as it would share it with National day of pralines:-)

In German "Vorspiel" actually mostly means foreplay as in the sexual way, if we want to say "party before the party", as in drinking something before going out it is "vorglühen"

Hei Karin! Not sure if someone already asked: I have just started to learn Norwegian recently but I realized Eva pronounces a "k" before all the h-words like "hvorfor, hvordan, hvem" etc. Is this a dialect? From Bergen or Stavanger maybe?
Also is it more of a colloquial pronounciation if the "kk" in "ikke" becomes more of a "ch" sound?
