The language I'm teaching is not Bokmål nor Nynorsk. It's an Oslo-dialect and I don't think you will have much problem with bokmål after this. :) And everyone will understand this.

Karin you're fabulous. thanks for breaking the code for youngsters' slang, a type of knowledge that can't be found in any norsk dictionary.
I'm pretty sure "ass" comes from an abbreviation of "altså", which is kind of an assurance and/or emphasis of what one has just said.

is it normal for me to not understand a lot of what they're saying? like, i can understand your norwegian videos just fine so are they just speaking really fast and kind of mumbling?
Yes, im ifraid this is pretty normal. They speak fast, as do lots of norwegians. And they are younger and uses a lot of words that might not be taught at norwegian classes and in books. I think you will get used to it and learn ALOT from continuing to watch! Hopefully it will be easier! :)

I really love these Videos! I just started trying to teach myself Norwegian two months ago and even though I couldnt fully understand a lot of what was being said I loved SKAM (When I was able to watched it here in the US lol). Tusen takk :D

Haha, I will take screenshot of this and mention it in a wrap-up episode! But here is the answer:
The ship is suppose to be loaded with other stuff on the same letter that the first person says. So Eva says "Ingrid", and then Jonas says "Insekter", the point is to fint all kinds of stuff on the letter "I", and never say the same thing as someone else ;)

Is it right to say, "Vi tekstes" like you can say, "Vi ses", or must it be, "Jeg skal tekste deg"?

Can you talk about when Eva says, "Driver de å tekste?" How do you use that "driver de å" combination?
uh, yes, that is a very good catch! (Some of these things are so normal for me to say that its hard to catch them when I watch the epsiode). I will do a recap one os season one with all the questions! :D thank you for this!
I will argue that the use of "homse" is not strictly derogatory. It depends on the tone and who's speaking. To say "homselåt" is not nice, of course.
Karin, could you explain that how we should use "til", "å" and "til å" when we are talking "to" in English? I think they have some rules in different usages of sentences but I cannot clarify them. Tusen takk :)
Also the word 'that'
"Å" is the infinitive mark placed in front of verbs in infinitive. In english: to.
"Til" is the preposition to. Gå til lekeplassen. Going to the play ground.
There is no equivalent of "this or that" in Norwegian. Det is both this and that. "Det eller det". Thus, it is more convenient to use the proper pronoun instead.

I was wondering about snakkes as an informal goodbye. Does Norwegian ever use tale, tala, as in Danish and Swedish?
+takforalt that's great'! That the video still is educational! :) tale in notway is mostly used for "speech", to hold a speech or to do the speech. So the verb and the noun. :)
Takk Karin. In your video regarding the Stavanger dialect a comment to my comment was made that in Swedish they have the word prat which lies between Tala and snacka in formality. Does Norwegian have a similar word to part? Snakkes.
Prate we have in norwegian as well. But if there are any formality to it I dont know.. Ïn the dictionary they are pointing towards each other :) so I guess they mean the same.

Kan jeg bare si at jeg begynte å være interessert i det norske språket etter at jeg så videone dine i 2010, og deretter har det bare ballet på seg og nå bor jeg i norge, er gift med en nordmann? Selvfølgelig er det mye som skal til å være dyktig i et fremmedspråk, men det er utrolig bra og hjelpsomt å følge noen som er så positiv og lidenskapelig som deg.

just curious, you mentioned the boyfriend/girlfriend is a gender neutral word. But I remember in s3, when Even first introduced Sonja to Isak, he uses another word. it sounds like a one syllable word starts with "d", like dunn or something😂😂( i might get it so wrong since i know nothing about Norwegian)
yes! i don't speak norwegian but it sounded like a version of the word "dame" in english, which is old-fashioned for lady so nobody uses it but i assumed he introduced her as his "lady" or something. would love to know the answer too.
@@thunderstorminmyblood3705 It's used in season 2 episode 3 too. I won't say any spoilers but it's used in the sense of "your girls" for a guy that gets a lot of ladies. BTW in German, Dame is just the normal word for lady, so maybe it's the same in Norwegian with a bit of a sarcastic overtone in these cases.

So fokk dokker the dokker or dere or du is you this is confusing in my study today the ward regn = rain but then regne = rain one a none the other a verb but that be raining there is regnete adjective = rainy little confusing just trying to get some understanding, tusen takk.

So, I watched this video out of curiosity and trying to find out if I would know any of these slang words. Ones I could understand would be the ones that sound so similar to English: Fokk, ass, henger (hanging around), en sigg (would be close enough to cigarette), and the last, tekste. If only those words were used....HEY, I can communicate with Norwegians! LOL. I was wondering why you would call these sessions SKAM meaning "shame"?
Because they come from a highly popular Norwegian TV series called Skam. Karin explains some of the slang that the characters in this series use. It's a kind of teen drama thing. I'm a bit old for it but I think it's great to learn Norwegian with because it's available on Daily Motion for free with English subtitles.

OMG, i just googled it :P haha. ASS is from ALTSÅ, and ALTSÅ is used as an exageration. So its just to really exaggerate what you are saying :P haha.
