    Thank you for your very kind comments. I think the important thing is to try to keep the strand the same width as you go round. Don't worry if you have to stray outside the grid to achieve this - if it looks right, it is right. If you have a problem with consistency, you could do one, trace it off and then transfer it to the other three corners.
    I'm about to put some videos up on geometry for designers, so you might find these of some help.

    Wow. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing insight & techniques with us! You’re a genius. I thought I was doing well… Ive been following along from the first video tutorial, and I really thought I was getting it. But then came breaklines. Again, I thought I had a grasp of the concept during the previous video (#8), but when I tried to replicate the break lines you showed us here…. It just … no. haha I tried & tried. But I’m apparently missing something vital & basic from the intro to breaklines. So I’ll have to go back & re-watch 7 & 8. Wish me luck! And thanks again for your demonstrations!!!
    xoxo

    Holy Moly! David, your examples are very beautiful and intriguing actually. It's quite amazing how much the shading adds to the overall look of those already beautiful designs. I tried some simple examples but never used those breaklines the way you did. Your video really is an inspiration and I'm going to explore breaklines now. :-)

    Man I got to tell you your stuff is great. Love the shading in particular really make it stand out.Just starting off myself doing simple boxes 3 x 3 and 6 x 4 with a break. Just baby stuff but it's all practice. One question i have is do you have any advice for the corners. Never seem to get it right. Do three ok and the fourth is not great. Anyway as i was saying love your work

    i absolutely love all these tutorials, and have a ton of different books written on how to draw these wonderful designs but get very confusing and frustrating.. your way has been the most straight forward.. and have drawn more in the last few months than i ever have ..
    also i been drawing on an ipad pro which is unique in its own way.. i have done smaller pieces like what you have shown 3x3 grid and such.. i am assuming on larger pieces with longer break lines if needed it follows the same principal?

    Just discovered your videos. They are amazing. How did you take out the middle of the large design. Where do you put the paralle pairs?

    • @davidnicholls100
      @davidnicholls100  9 лет назад

      Regina Sutton Glad you liked them, thanks Regina. Yes, the middle was taken out with four break lines in a square. If you watch the videos in sequence from number one, you'll learn exactly where to put the parallel pairs.

    Sharing your knowledge and talents is so appreciated! You really have a gift. I have been working on my break lines and am missing something. I tried (your second example) with a 2 x 2 with a break line between every 2nd unit, which didn't work, and then tried a break line after every 3rd unit and I still am not that nice interlocking link. I don't know if I explained that well.

    Hello, I love your tutorials and really appreciate them. If I may ask a question - in the 2nd knot from the top when you point out where the break line is, as it is just a 2 unit deep knot, how does the break line fit in with this? I've tried a break line 2 units deep and of course this isn't it, but if the break line is only 1 unit deep where does it go? I realise that I'm missing something really simple, but would appreciate your help!

    • @davidnicholls100
      @davidnicholls100  4 года назад

      Are you referring to the border designs, Clare? Be more specific.

    • @clareroper-paris21
      @clareroper-paris21 4 года назад

      @@davidnicholls100 Yes of course. I meant the second from the top border design. I have now though worked it out, I just hit a blind spot before realising that of course the break line goes in the circles between the main unit circles as it were. Sorry!
      I am also very interested in zoomorphics which are more complicated, would you consider giving any tutorials on them at some point?
      Once again - thanks for your tutorials, I love them.

      Su Mitchell I’ve found when running into problems like this, the fault is usually one of two things- uneven spacing or a mistake earlier in the work.

      @GnarlyknowsBest 7 лет назад

      You said that you started with a two unit square knot and then added break lines. When I tried I couldn't quite get it right. How did you space the breaks exactly

    • @davidnicholls100
      @davidnicholls100  7 лет назад +1

      It depends very much on what sort of design you want to produce. Just remember that the break lines must always join circles together, and if they cross they must also cross on a circle. Keep them regularly spaced.
      Watch the video again and listen carefully to the commentary.
