I've followed all your videos and you are by far the best ever teacher of Celtic art. I don't understand why anyone who started with the basic 1,2,3 to learn construction can't follow on these. I've done tis cross several times without any problem and even altered the size to fit. Bless you oh wise one!
Well, thanks to you I have yet again taught a 7th and 8th grade art class how to make the Celtic knots and crosses. They loved it! Even the kids who struggled with other art projects were successful with this! When challenged, people rise to the occasion (with a little help from you!). Thanks for sharing these great videos on Celtic design.
Thanks foryour kind comment, Pam! Your kids will love this too. ruclips.net/video/9OVlbz2EH88/видео.html Let me know how they respond. Also see Cetic Design 18 - 22 kind regards, David x
Thanks for explaining how you created your custom cross using overlapping units. It opens up a whole world of possibilities! Having gone through the previous videos in order, the instructions were very easy to follow.
I'm a little foggy about how the overlapping ones work - but I'm sure it'll be clear once I pick up a pencil! Thank you again for these - you're a very clear and concise teacher.
The column of shared corners... in quilting, we call the placement "on point", so the square turned on its point is placed as you sketched your 3 cm squares. Warmed my quilting heart!
I never felt like I had the talent nor determination to learn to draw, but I'm really into satisfying patterns and following your series up to drawing a celtic cross, that doesn't look like complete crap, myself motivates me a lot :) so thank you very much for your tutorials
New subscriber! I love how detailed your tutorials are! I was trying to free hand a cross like this, and I was getting frustrated. Thank you so much for your tutorial! It looks awesome! ^-^
Hi David! Sitting here across the pond from you and just wanted to thank you for this series on Celtic Knots. Absolutely brilliant and once I picked up my pencil and started drawing these knots came together just like you said they would. Your videos are so easy to follow and your humor is so appropriate. I also appreciate how you handle the few negative comments you receive. How anyone could complain and find fault is beyond me. Who cares if the video isn’t 1080p and perfectly edited. I didn’t come here for your video editing...I came to learn how to draw Celtic Knots and you have taught me exactly how to do that for which I am very grateful. Keep up the great work and best wishes!
Thanks for your very kind comments Girlsdad. I'm glad you enjoyed my videos and found them useful. I don't get many negative comments, but when I do, I always leave them in!! Kind regards, David
I never thought I'd be able to draw celtic nods, they seemed too difficult. Thanks a lot for the vids, I've been drawing a lot of them since I saw your tutorials. You're great!!!!!
I Really like your Simplified explanation of How To draw the BASIC CK. That video, made me a subscriber. I don't like "exact shapes" I like to do the celtic knot, but, always grid it, and, was finding my "regular knots" just sketching freehand. I tried Your way. I Fell BACK in Love with a Great Old Friend. Thank you for sharing!
I just love Celtic designs David! Thank you for your great instruction. This is a great tutorial for my closed FB group, Barefoot Journaling Chronicles. Awesome! I know they're gonna love it. :) Have a great day! ~Evon Robinson
Thank you for your lovely message, Dew! I appreciate it and I'm glad that your enjoying my videos (more coming soon). Dx There are too many seagulls around here! They keep me awake at night! :-(
I like your approach to drawing knots. I take a stiff card and pencil on long flights to and from Vancouver and draw some knots. It’s so much better than the movies on the plane ride.
Lovely ! When I follow you it all goes well but when I try doing it myself I get confused when I have to put in the parallel lines , is there some easy trick on how to get the lines in correctly?
Oh wow! This cross is just gorgeous. Also, the square pattern you made yourself is fab. Ever so intricate. You make it all so easy. If I can follow your instructions so easily, anyone can. Thanks for making and sharing this fabulous video. I've subscribed and will be watching many more. 💗👍😍
David Nicholls I'm trying to do this now and I don't know where or how many circles to place and unfortunately, I just can't quite see it on your one because it's too pale. So I'm kinda lost. Maybe I should be trying easier ones first and then I'd know about placement of circles. It's just a thought - maybe show the actual circles and lines of the base pattern for those of us who are really new to this. Also, I got lost because you only did a very few lines and I needed more to be honest. Many thanks. I hope you don't mind me commenting like this. 😃
David Nicholls - Oh, that makes sense! (What am I like!). I will defo watch them in order now, which I should have realised. Thanks for the help and again, for the fab videos. 😃👍
The problem that you’ve got me into is that now I’m adding Celtic Knots to my wood carving. I’d send some pictures but I can’t figure how to add them to the comments.
Thanks to your excellent teaching, I have already created two birthday cards, using celtic knotwork in the shape of a capital letter (or two). However, they were both easy - ie., no curves (T, and K, etc). Is it possible, do you know, to do the same thing with, say, a P, or am I really asking too much?!
No, just do curved lines instead of straight, either freehand or with drawing instruments. Have a look at this: ruclips.net/video/K6cNg-SGis8/видео.html Thankks for oyur kind comment, Q.
Sorry for the very late comment, but I was wondering how you get your lines to be similar width throughout the piece, I have done all the steps and made a cross and it’s Clearly a cross but the knot work and lines look sloppy to me, any tips for sharp straight lines?
What can I say? Use a sharp, hard pencil. A ruler may be the best answer for you. Work very SLOWLY and very accurately. Good luck, Diamond, you can do it! ;-)
great tutorial!! but i got confused in what you did after the grid :3 can you explain please? because it went from a grid to something else :) please reply :D this looks amazing
Yes. This video presupposes that you've already watched the previous ones. Watch them from number one and they'll take you through step by step. Glad you liked it! Best wishes D

When you shade your art do you use a fine liner pen to outline or a 4b pencil or what? I so love Celtic art.
I think I used a fine pen - certainly not a 4B
I think most of the shading was done with an H.
gracias por compartir tus conocimientos. saludos desde Argentina
