- Emilly Carter, 20, has had Tourette’s for as long as she can remember. Tics include mimicking voices, shrugging her head and touching her nose but when Emilly sings her tics vanish.

It's because you speak using the Left side of your brain. Singing comes from the Right. Your creative side. Stutter/ Stammers are a neurological disorder that affect the particular side.
I can't say the word "Eleven" for the life of me but I can sing it perfectly.

Having this can be hard and embarrassing at times but it becomes part of who you are and you get use to it I love how you showed us that you arnt changed and still living an amazing life you are a brave woman👍🏾

Same except if i really need to tic (like in class or somewhere) i’d excuse myself, go to the bathroom and then start ticcing and swearing like crazy
Yeah I can hold in my motor tics, though it does create a really weird, uncomfortable feeling that sometimes I can't stand

One of my friends deals with this. He hates it most of the time. (Gonna talk about one of his tics here. I know some people can pick new ones up. So this is the warning)
His biggest tic is blinking. And he hates when they get bad.

I had Tourette's through highschool and my early twenties, though mine was very minor in comparison to this. I gasped as vocal, and my neck and arms would violently twitch from time to time, especially when I felt colder than normal. I ended up doing a paper on the disorder during my brief stint in college, and it's such an incredibly interesting disorder. Even after writing a full paper, and experiencing it myself for years, it still amazes me just how many different tics people can have. The brain is such an interesting organ.

I just want say my experience with this video. This video is beautiful and I'm happy to be learning more and more about torretts. I have nervous tics which I know aren't near as bad as your condition but they do happen randomly and I'm still honestly embarrassed by them. Last night when I was watching this video I thought I had a tic,,,,but it kept getting worse and worse and turns out I had a seizure

I'm writing something with a character that has tourettes in it and his makes me feel guilty :-( (as did watching an old episode of SOUTH PARK the other day)
I didn't know touching ticks were also Tourettes.
It’s really important to research all the different possibilities of tics and make sure you portray it accurately. I don’t mind if characters have swearing tics as long as it’s not all there is Bc tourettes is so much more than just that. Personally I relate more to characters with coprolalia but I don’t appreciate when that’s all it’s shown as. If u have any questions for how to go about it feel free to ask.

Man, pretty much *anything* can be a tic with Tourette's. Like @Southern Discomfort said, it's a very fascinating disorder!

who would dislike this a person is born how they are they can't help it. My boyfriend ha Tourette and I love him more than anything . My daughter is developmentally delayed . you don't have to like people because it's your choice but to hate people is wrong. to judge people is wrong.
