At the start it was Kid Handsome. Then Kid Presentable. Then Kid Ugly. Finally, they called me Kid Pfohl.
Kid Pfohl😂
Sounds like a Kentucky Derby participant
I've discovered this channel probably within the past month. I'm a 42 year old ex wrestling fan and find these videos consistently funny, witty, but also an in depth love letter to wrestling and nostalgia without the shmaltz
It's The best about mate!
Same here, same age and timeframe. Love the presentation and all.
Ah thanks Gianni!
Basically same age and similar story. I watched wrestling from about 86 till 99 or so and love reliving my childhood through this channel.
Yeah these are great. These and OSW are my two constants
Lex was a natural heel. WCW and WWF kept trying to use him as a babyface, mostly out of need, but really he should have ALWAYS been a heel.
Nah, he was a great babyface, as evidence by the loud pops he always got in WCW.
@@quesoblanco444 at least by the late 90's he certainly was a great babyface in WCW. At least I thought so, I always considered Luger and Sting to be the two white meat babyfaces that had to fight the NWO. After he turned heel and joined the NWO, I don't think he needed that
The incredible reaction when Luger won the belt from Hogan on Nitro puts the lie to this statement. Luger was arguably WCW's top babyface at the time. Sting was too busy being mysterious and hanging about the rafters, Luger was actually going toe-to-toe with the nWo and the people loved him for it. Man just had to signal for the torture rack and crowds would lose their fucking minds
Burt Reynolds played football at Florida State University, like Ron Simmons, so Simmons being his favorite wrestler due to that connection is within the realm of possibility.
Great fact Mangrove! This I love
I always contended that Lex looked like a roided up Huey Lewis.
Huey Lewis was WAAAAAY better looking.
Kurt angle with long hair 😂
🤣🤣🤣 Nooooo. 🤣 You're doing Huey wrong. He has a butthole chin, but he was a handsome guy.
Luger is a legend at selling, gets hit"Whoa!" Hits back "Whoa!"
I think the best Luger match I ever saw was him against Barry Windham, and it was all because Barry worked off of Luger's style so well. He would piss off Luger with some cheap shots, then when Luger would start to hulk up Barry would separate leaving a confused Luger to cool off before attacking him again. It was very clever.
Oh that's good, that's absolutely what Luger was best at
Pfohl is such a cursed last name, literally just a few letters thrown together.
Straight out of a Scrabble shuffle
@@HPKazan Polish names basically
I swear so many wrestlers have legendarily bad real last names. Poffo? Bollea? These are not good. Then of course you have Blood, the best last name for a wrestler ever and he does not even use it
@@Dr.Quarex R-Truth, AKA K-Kwik, AKA K-Krush, AKA Malik Shahbaz's real name is Ronnie Killings, meanwhile Marcus "Buff" Bagwell decided he quite liked Bagwell as a tough wrestling name.
@@Dr.QuarexMaybe he doesn't use it because "Dick Blood" would make people uncomfortable?
I’ve been watching you guys for the past few months, and I just wanted to say, you guys are phenomenal. I feel like there are touches of Brass Eye, Alan Partridge, just phenomenally robust and diverse and hilarious commentary.
Ah Trevor, thanks! We're less good than all of them, but we'll take those any day of the week x
You guys always make me smile, but 42 is the biggest laugh I’ve had for a while, I’m 3 years older and he looks like my dad! Thanks fellas.
Lex Luger has very much a germanic visage and looks like German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn in his prime
I think his surname is German
(In real life I mean, not his stage name)
Nikita Koloff's accent is more IRA than KGB.
I swear DDP here looks like Kenny Omega!
Does Kenny know his dad?
Lex Luger looked like Buffed Up MacGyver with his haircut in the WWF.
Spot on.
I laughed harder at this video than I think I've laughed at any other. Like deep belly laughs. All that stuff with Lex and his face, and that kid and the contest at the end. I give up, I'm tapping out, uncle. Great stuff in this one.
I can't believe you gave Spivey such short shrift. Trained by Dusty then tagged with Scott Hall. Joined WCW as part of Teddy Longs first management team, the WCW skyscrapers with Sid and then Mean Mark. Held tag team gold with Stan Hansen in Japan. His vignettes as Waylon Mercy in WWF were inspirational to Bray Wyatt. He helped Bray develop his character and was thanked by Bray in name, Mercy the Buzzard. Those vignettes and his debut match alone are well worth their own video, but he retired within 5 months of the characters debut
SpiveyI I genuinely think he's enjoyable in retrospect, but I'd be hard pressed to think of one match of his where he's the best thing in it. But yes, everything you say he did, but he's always felt to me like a guy who had it all but just never managed to make it click on any given night
Forgot about his wwf time before this
@@mattpierce-kq5ps He had a run in the WWF in the mid-80s as "Golden Boy" Danny Spivey but was pretty much a face jobber then.
Spivey is Top Boy in my stable!
Kinnikuman mentioned 0:37. This automatically makes this the best wrestling channel on YT now.
Lost it at "Rex Ruger." 😂
I was looking for this comnent😆😆
He's Not Fake! He's Hunk Entertainment.
reefervision spitting fax 😭
Jimmy Garvin was my first ever WCW figure. I didn't know who he was till i saw this video
Having seen Lex attempt to rip out of a t-shirt and fail miserably…I’d say he was all show and no go.
He said the shirt was too tight...The promotor gimmicked it to make it hard to rip lol
I don't know!!!
The fact that he played 3 years of Professional Canadian Football and played for the Green Bay Packers. I'd say he was far from a wimp. But, he definitely wasn't the best wrestler or talker
DOOR’S LOCKED TOO
SUPERBRAWL SATURDAY?!?
Dusty rubbing that kids body 🤢
Fun Fact: The reason Lex Luger always grabs and rubs his wrists is because he used to always grab and pick at his balls. Someone told him that he did this and said that he should grab his wrists instead so as to keep from constantly messing with his junk.
Eats stone cold cake and zaps lightning with bread daddio is the most hilarious, confusing compliment I've ever heard. What the hell was ddp thinking about? micro aneurysms?
I think the problem with Luger is, on paper, he's everything you want in late 80s/early 90s wrestling. But in execution he's just a guy who looks like the bloke from Robot Jox, with big muscles who never really connected with a crowd.
Marc and Peter are right, its all in his face and lack of ability to sell convincingly, though I wouldn't have known that as a kid watching him.
Should have always been heel, but with his looks he's going to be tried as a face
He was pretty much always beloved by the crowd in wcw. If you watch the old eps, he gets big pops.
Luger was super over in 1997.
Can't expect these kids to know just how over Luger was in WCW
Is this before Pete started calling him a "Boglin" face.
WWF did something similar to the Freebirds/Steiners/Doom championship scenario about the same time…
Mr. Perfect defeated Kerry VonErich for the IC title on 11/15/90. A week later at Survivor Series (11/22), VonErich had the belt and was announced as champion. The match where the title change happens wasn’t shown until early/mid December.
Similar but not quite as problematic as Survivor Series only very rarely featured non-Survivor Series elimination matches at the time so there was no chance of the belt changing hands. I believe they kept Perfect/Von Erich off the House Show loop until the title change as well. It wasn't handled quite as cack-handedly as Doom/Freebirds/Steiners.
Lex looks like the Australian Cricketer Steve Smith literally on steroids 🤣
Million dollar body with a $1.50 face 😂😂😂
He reminds me of my ex 😬
❤️❤️❤️ you guys!
Lex with the Boglin face
0:14 That's clearly the world title belt, not the U.S. one but still looks good.
“Fellowship of the Sword” just has red flags all over it
It sounds like a cheap fantasy novel
Inspiration and recording. Though credited to Jagger-Richards, "Brown Sugar" was primarily the work of Jagger, who wrote it sometime during the filming of Ned Kelly in 1969. According to Marsha Hunt, Jagger's girlfriend and the mother of his first child Karis, he wrote the song with her in mind.
No the songs about Heroin Mate look it up
@@TheSunDanceKid100 it’s about going down on a black girl. H wasn’t jaggers thing, he wouldn’t write a song celebrating it. He WOULD write a song about pussy.
I’ve seen enough! I’m calling FAKE HUNK on Luger!!
Freebirds rehearsing their entrance must be hilarious
Yeah that top rope elbow is up there with Paul Roma's onto Alex Wright. That was pretty badass.
Lex Luger vs Dan Spivey mega battle of Mullets.😂😂😂
9:01 one of the many epic quotes from Arnold in "Pumping Iron"
Lex Lugor has one of the faces that seems to have been frankensteined together from the faces of five different handsome men. Somehow much less than the sum of its parts.
Great channel! Can you pls look into some Atlantic Grand Prix wrestling. ( I’m from New Brunswick, Canada
Not sure if y’all mentioned it., but what I always found funny was the fact he (Nikita Koloff) NEVER broke character. Even in the back with the boys. They have discussed it in shoot interviews. They said they would tell him, “hey, we know you aren’t Russian. It’s ok. You’re in the back 😅” and he would still stay in kayfabe
WWF did this as well, but they would reverse the decision after they taped the matches.
He's got a Troll Doll face.
Unfortunately he was missing that spark that some people just had.
He had a beard when he first started and while he still looked a little weird, the beard did help sometimes.
People can say Lex never got over as a babyface, but that is 100% inaccurate. He *white* hot as a babyface in 1997, culminating with the big title win on Nitro. He just clearly hated the business. Until he came back to WCW in 1995, and something changed. And that something was his attitude.
Yeah he never gets credit but it's multiple times he was extremely over
As a kid it used to weird me out when Luger would do that weird pectoral popping shit 😂
And now your older... do you like it more or less now or about the same ?
@@peartreeproductions77now I understand why he did it
Lex looks a lot like Jagger
Lex Lagger. 😂
Lex Luger is Tom Magee if Tom Magee wasn't gave up
Theae videos are perfect. Well done and thanks.
White guy wearing a durag spotted!
Nikita koloff pulls it off better than durag Vince
mind blowing that big daddy dink was a 1 year older than i am now when he made this appearance. looks like a 60+ year old person you'd expect to see riding the little cart around the grocery store
Dan Spivey was a hard man in real life but a glorified jobber most of the time in the ring. Remember Undertaker saying when he was part of the Skyscrapers with Dan he told Dan how he was fed up with Road Warriors being extremely stiff with them in the ring and Dan said he’ll sort it with Undertaker saying don’t bother as he doesn’t want a fight with them especially with Hawk’s reputation. So later in their match Dan fought back giving the Road Warriors a receipt and then some more with Undertaker thinking that there was gonna be a fight backstage in the looker room. So Undertaker is waiting for action soon as the Road Warriors come back and when they do both go over to Dan with Undertaker thinking this is it so was ready to help Dan when it all kicked off but both went over and thanked Dan for the match and when Hawk & Animal walked away Undertaker looked at Dan he just smiled and winked at Undertaker.
I love Lex even 'sells' when he's on the offense: Gah! Ow! Yaa!
Unfortunately Lex always reminded me of Wish You Are Here host, Judith Chalmers
Hahaha, DDP looking like some sort of prototype for The Godfather gimmick several years later. I really love this channel btw, seeing DDP like this and Michael Hayes before he was Dok Hendrix is something else and it really is filling in a lot of holes on what I missed out on from WCW, for better or worse. I grew up with nothing but WWF in the 80's and 90's and didn't start watching WCW until I heard Scott Hall showed up there out of the crowd. Hell, I even started watching ECW, or at least yearning to get ahold of some tapes or staying up at ungodly hours of the night to watch their broadcast, all before I ever desired to watch WCW. WCW always seemed so... generic to me as a kid, just bland. But all in all I regret missing out.
But it's cool to see this channel and see footage of wrestlers who just disappeared and sometimes reappeared from the WWF. Wrestlers like the Steiner Bros, Luger, Flair, IRS, Psycho Sid, British Bulldog, Giant Gonzalez, etc. Even cooler to see the ones that eventually left WCW to become much, much greater: Austin, Foley, Pillman and the Undertaker predominantly come to mind.
And yeah, Luger's face is something else. Total package only if the head is shipped in a separate box! 🤣
Edit - Oh yeah, also got Nikita Koloff's signed photograph at a Walmart in Vegas in the late 90's. Dude was playing the heel and being super rude to everyone. I think I paid $5 for it, yet didn't know who the hell he was since he had never wrestled in the WWF and, by the time I started watching WCW, he was long gone. Sidenote: The WCW used to have a Nitro Grill restaurant in Vegas back then and it was a big advantage as a wrestling fan to get autographs that way. Goldberg, Vampiro, Scott Steiner (with sweet Jesus Midajah) and Mike Awesome come to mind. Being such a dumbass teen at the time, I actually wore an NRA shirt when I got Goldberg's sig. 🤣Like he was going to really give a damn.
I remember in high school when the godfather debuted me and friends brought that up😂😂
The irony is both of them were actually like that in real life just ddp toned it down once he got married
Luger was a natural heel, it's what he did best. He was an adequate, decent, but not great wrestler, and for a long match, he needed to be in there with a great wrestler, a Flair, or Steamboat, or a Bret Hart. Nobody wants to watch Luger against some heel who isn't a particularly good worker, like Dan Spivey, for 20 minutes. They wanted to push him as an all-American, unstoppable baby-face. A few problems were, he wasn't a great worker who could carry a less then great worker to a decent match, he didn't have the natural charisma of a Hogan and to sell that story of the unstoppable underdog was hard since he was usually bigger than the "monster heels" he was wrestling (if they were a few inches taller, he clearly was more physically imposing). But, not using Luger as a heel was just missing the boat.
He was best as a tweener in like 96 or 97. Rewatching old Nitros made realize he was absolutely great for that time period.
I always thought Lex Luger looked like Rob Liefeld's final form.
How did I never notice how much they look like each other?
Because they've never been in the same place at the same time. Wait a minute!
Koloffs short runs in the 90s is because his wife was sick with cancer so a full time stint in WWF was not in the works
Check Dusty when they're talking to the sweepstake winner. Fighting back the laughter.
I kind of crave this RUclips channel's new material. That is not normal.
Everyone knew The Total Package was packing socks.
That last edit of Dan S. Clubbing killed me 😂!
It wasn't just Jake who accused Grizzly Smith. There's also Rockin' Robin, and he had a habit of taking very young girls on the road. His abuse is actually pretty well established at this point.
at one point one of the longest us champion didnt always have the best matches but was very underrated talent imo also nice ultimate muscle reference XD
I hate to be That Guy, but the boys were referencing Kinnikuman from the 70s; Ultimate Muscle (or Kinnikuman II, as it was called in Japan) was the sequel in the 00s.
Luger was almost a hunk but not quite, he had the hair, the height and the body but wasn`t quite handsome enough and by the mid 90`s his hair was receding and he looked awful, that clip of him as the narcicist was awful, like a bad acting beefcake in a 1960`s B movie.
Was that bloody Jamison getting a stiffy in the crowd when Lex was posing?
Every video by British people has to reference the Simpsons. It must have been on tele everyday over there
Yes it literally was. BBC2 at 6pm.
Constantly mate
I'm pretty sure Humperdink managed Bam Bam Bigelow WWF.
Nikita, in a horrible accent, "In Soviet Russia, belt wear you."
Kapow.
Every time I seen him growing up just reminded me of a jacked beastmaster
A man who eats stone cold cake, and zaps lightening with bread daddyo
Very entertaining video, subscribed, informative aswell as funny, great job
When I was about 7 I thought Lex looked like a comic book hero to me
Nkita Koloff would have been good as Crush in WWF in 1990. He looked the part of Demolition and had previously teamed with Smash in nwa.
Nikita Koloff reminds me of Papa Lazarou here
He looks like Toadwort from The Gummi Bears
How did you guys miss the woman at 2:04 cheering then trying to play it off like shes too cool for it?
The fart sound was priceless 😅
Kenny Omega is aging fantastically since his DDP run in the 90s
OOC won't be happy about this slander.
Dan Spivey is what Brian Knobbs would look like if he lost weight.
Ron Simmon's slams are simply murderous. Damn.
@11:44 I didn't know Russell Crowe was once a wrestler 🤔....😂
The Steiners Freebirds match taped for pro was taped February 18th, 1991 & aired on March 9, 1991.
I figured this all out when I was 10! And I had no idea who Dave Meltzer was! You can tell the Freebirds losing to the Steiners took place before this match, because the same people were in the audience for the past few weeks!
Nikita kolof is the only wrestler i know that stayed retired. I don't think he ever started wrestling again. Correct me if I'm wrong
I want you to know i wrote all that before i watched...you guys are my spirit animals, million dollar body with a 1.50 face..hahaha that's Lex Luger.
Speaking of Lugers face or wrestlers face in general.. i think youre onto something.
Goldberg, big bald guy. Face looked like an intense lion. He looked cool.
Ryback, big bald guy. Face looked like a big stupid goofball.
I zapped lighting with bread once... once.
Humperdinck was 42??
Nikita Koloff sounds like Papa Lazaru... "'allo Lex, you're mah wife nowwwwww."
Yes!! EXACTLY what I need
Yes me as well. So u know where I can watch more
Luger a cross of Moe and mick Jagger 😅
I really hope this channel blows up soon. You 3 (Marc & Pete & editor BanyaBat) deserve *_SO_* much more than just under 20,000 subscribers. More like just above 200,000 subscribers. Actually more like 2,000,000 subscribers at *LEAST.*
Because it's *SUCH* a great alternative to _OSW Review: The Old-School Wrestling Video-Podcast_ (Filmed in Glorious Grapple-Vision & Encoded With Blast-Processing, They Chronologically Critique -The Hulkamania Era of WWF- Professional Wrestling Storylines Pay-Per-View by Pay-Per-View - Hosted by Jay Hunter, Ste-V1, & Mr. O.O.C. aka Mister Out-Of-Character aka Ste-V2, and formerly a mysterious man of Irish Mystery named Niall/Neo).
I hope it happens for y'all on RUclips one day. Apparently y'all been at it a while in the audio-only podcast world via Spotify and the other platforms. I watch every upload as soon as I see it's been posted and Like each and every one of them. And of course I'm one of the ~19,700-to-19,799 subscribers you've already gotten. I feel like I've seen a gradual increase in the half-year or so since I've found the channel. Think it was in the like 10,000 subs range back then so hopefully it's merely a matter of time.
And honestly, *BIG* thanks and *RESPECC* to the unsung hero BanyaBat, who is responsible for bringing this audio podcast to RUclips and putting video to that audio. For ages I've enjoyed his videos doing the same for RedLetterMedia's movie-commentaries on their own channel, and I was so pleasantly surprised when I noticed that they're doing the same for the _Wrestle Me_ podcast. So I salute you Bat of Banya!
🫡 🦇 💨🌫🧖🏼♂️🌫💨
I think WCW just drove all the give a fuck out of Dan Spivey . I have seen him really perform well but in WCW he was spotty at best .
Best content on RUclips!
Lex had more to do with Elizabeth's death than people know.
DDPs og pimp shtick was so fried. To just turn around and make him your favorite good guys favorite good guy 😂
I don't even like wrestling but keep watching.
Buck Fifty face is forever his name now
That DDP soul brother routine was gross. I never understood his appeal anyway.
He has the same "it factor" as Goldberg, Cm punk, Raven, and Paul Heyman.
Finally, someone said it. I've been watching this stuff for years hearing lex looks food and thinking what
