Randy "Pee Wee" Anderson was one of the best! One thing WCW always did well was let their referees have actual personalities - Anderson, Mark Curtis, Nick Patrick, hell, Teddy Long started as a WCW ref before becoming a manager.
@@Henshingod the great ones were "invisible" stars.....running the show while being a part of the equipment, like turnbuckles, posts, and ropes and they always made you feel like they were there to ensure fair play and WCW had the best ones for sure. Might be because my Dad refereed and umpired when I was growing up for extra income and I saw refs as people to be respected.
I've always said, you give Scott Steiner the ring abilities from this time period and the personality of his Big Poppa Pump days and you've got arguably the most complete wrestler ever.
I love this! I remember watching this match, and I was so thrilled to see Sting & Rick Steiner going against each other. Shades of Bill Watts' UWF! So good to see a puroresu style!
That was actually the first time they had done that (reversing the tombstone) @6:38 on either WWF or WCW tv. These guys were all friends and that is why they went balls to walls with each other.
OK I love listening to you guys while I am at work because I literally laugh out loud my whole shift. I don’t even have to actually see what you’re talking about to enjoy what you’re saying. Thank you so much! Keep it up.
Sid's pending departure actually made national news. The short-lived daily newspaper "The National" ran a weekly wrestling section. It was well known there was behind the scenes wrangling and if you watch the show, you can hear fans chanting Kiss Him Goodbye, a.k.a., "Na Na Na Na..." as Sid was leaving ringside and El Gigante is slamming Gag on the stretcher.
Marc n Peter have such British deadpan humor, always has me coming back to watch these videos multiple times. Im always wheeze laughing at WrestleMe vidyas
You know, good for Scott for realizing that he liked going to work with his brother every day and was fine doing what he was doing. Even when WCW tried to make them feud in the late 90s, they never wanted to wrestle each other. Fair enough.
Lex Luger was not at the first New Japan Supershow in 1991, but he did defend the WCW Title against Chono on Jan 4, 1992 (Supershow 2) shortly before leaving the promotion in February after SuperBrawl.
The Steiners although i imagine a tough team to put against if you couldn't match their stiff and often tough style of wrestling always fascinate me from this period. With Rick's lariats and Scott Steiner's innovation use of moves (coupled with the frankensteiner/the steiner screwdriver finishers) are awesome.
New subscriber here, this is by far my favorite wrestling channel.. You guys make me howl, and you feed us loads of awesome info. And yes indeed thst match was epic. WCW 1990-1994 pre hogan had soo much hit and miss but the bits were usualy great..
I haven't watch this match since I was a kid so I went back and watched Steiner bros vs sting/luger and I had the stinky face the whole time...forgot it's an absolute banger.
Your guess was right about Sid. I don't remember the specifics, but they knew he was leaving and they had to pay him to come back for the one off. The one thing I specifically remember was that it was listed as "El Gigante vs ???" on the run sheet and One Man Gang was slotted in as his replacement if Sid no showed. Think that was from the book Nitro.
Reverse piledriver/tombstone, I am sure Dynamite kid reversed piledrivers on Tiger mask an Rollerball Rocco few years before this, mid-80's Japan... Edit... could be mistaken, Steiner's were both great, They should have been pushed to the moon everywhere they worked
That's a complex issue. You gotta remember that A: they really are brothers, B: it was Rick that got Scott into the scene and carried him for the first couple years while Scott figured it all out, and C: I don't think it would have worked out since Scott is not a good white meat baby face promo and that's what Vince wanted in 93. Someone to replace Hogan. And Scott is probably smart enough to know that. The NWO takeover was the perfect time for Scott to go solo.
Thee is a old old word for You. Basically El Gigante trunks say "You Giant" Thee Giant!! The number one giant 😆 Wonder what Andre would have had to say to that? 😂😂
i believe sid had already turnned his notice in and signed with wwf. whihc explains the lackk of a stretcher finish adn when he got o put on it after the pin fall he just got off and left
That was one thing that WCW got right pre1996. The World Championship, US Championship and Tag Team Titles seemed equally important. Having a match between The Steiner Brothers and Luger/Sting didn't seem like a step down for either Sting or Luger from a Singles Championship. And yes, The Steiners were competing for Singles Titles even then.
I disagree that Rick was underrated. At the time, he was the obvious star with a big personality. Until Scott developed the Poppa Pump gimmick, he was a bit bland to be honest.
As someone watching during this time. NO ONE thought Scott was going to be a big deal. He was literally a charisma blackhole until the NWO heel turn and the blonde hair.
Let's be honest. There aren't to many people in the world that would not been scared poopless if they were cage with brody. Brody just stops working with you.
I think not 100% But didn't this match win PWI MATCH OF YEAR 1991?? I read PWI religiously 1991-2000 EVERY issue And in the early 90s The Steiners got a TON of press in those days Always in PWI and the more shitty ones Man I can remember going into a convince store in 1991 and seeing all the wrestling mags I was in heaven for a 11 year old
el gigante and sid encapsulate the problem with booking at the time. both are attractions. both could be in an interesting match. but the two of them have no business working in a singles match together. neither are suitable workers. neither know how to call a match.
Sid could never be devalued because he was 6'8", and was always a main eventer. WCW to WWF back to WCW back to WWF and finishing in WCW, always on top.
The Mario jump noise for the ref was great...spit my drink all over my tablet, but great nonetheless 😂

@samspurgeon4222
Yeeeah, WCW NEVER used refs as gimmicks.
Ohhh yeah, except for the entire period of the NWO angle.
@@junghunt8645 I know, just never seen one jump with the Super Mario Bros sound.....it wasn't the ref, it was the video editing that got me
Scott Steiner back in day was a machine of a worker! Damn!! Steiner Brothers proper legends in rasslin!!👊
Very few wrestlers actually create new moves Scotty created ✌️! 😂
Yes exactly! Scott Steiners overall moveset is absolutely insane
The Steiners were beasts, their match against Bret & Owen is a great hidden gem from their WWF run.
That sounds like an insane pairing
I've always said, you give Scott Steiner the ring abilities from this time period and the personality of his Big Poppa Pump days and you've got arguably the most complete wrestler ever.
I've never seen these four manhandled like this by anyone but Simmons and Reed. Nobody else had the power or the impact. Beast mode.
Imagine the Big Poppa Pump gimmick with the young Scott Steiner athletic ability.
Oh he would've been top 3 in wrestling. I've wondered this too.
I love this! I remember watching this match, and I was so thrilled to see Sting & Rick Steiner going against each other. Shades of Bill Watts' UWF! So good to see a puroresu style!
One of my favourite matches ever. A true classic
The Steiners had a Japanese match with Sting and Muta that's Also good
Rick Steiner was so good at taking bumps holy shit. The Dog Faced Gremlin really was underrated. He hit the ropes like a maniac on speed fr
That Brody vs Luger cage match needs its own video. There is a back stage story to that.
That was actually the first time they had done that (reversing the tombstone) @6:38 on either WWF or WCW tv. These guys were all friends and that is why they went balls to walls with each other.
And the fucking My Chemical Romance clips with the music guitar all that oh my fucking God I love this please never stop
That's what She said

I was the biggest Steiner mark, as a kid, and now. I remember watching this and thinking how great it was. I love tag team wrestling.
This was during my favorite time as a WCW fan as a kid. That 1990-1993 era was great.
I'm so glad this video is back up. I missed it.

"I went rigid watching it!" Yeah Mark, I bet you did..
Glad to know I wasn't the only person that instantly thought that 😅
Scott Steiner had the best, most insane moveset before he became Big Poppa Pump. Also that Tombstone reversal is so impressive from Sting and Scott
I loved how Scott would celebrate hitting big moves like a linebacker would a third down sack. That was world champion stuff
HOLY CRAP This was 🔥🔥🔥
As Dusty would say "All 4 of these guys were doing the thing, Daddy!!!"
I distinctly remember this tag match because it is one of my favorite wrestling matches of all time! I highly recommend it 👍
7:04 Undertaker did that spot with Brian Lee in the Undertaker vs Undertaker match at Summerslam 94.

The reverse tombstone spot comes from Lucha. Usually a way to get the Technico DQd

Lex and Sting vs. The Steiner Brothers was a fantastic tag team match. It is quintessential viewing if you are a fan of tag team wrestling

Gonna watch this on the network immediately. Its jogged my memory from watching it as a kid.

People say Lex wasn't a good worker but he doesn't look out of place here at all.
I always liked Lex, and one thing that he and Scott Steiner both did is that they'd celebrate hitting big moves like they'd just sacked a quarterback.

5:16:Sting and Steiner did an IDENTICAL diving spot 3.5 years earler at Starrcade '87 but the camera crew messed up on filming it.
2:26. Or you could compare it to the clean matches in Traditional British wrestling.
Best wrestling content on YT, they nailed the format.
12:32 "You'll always be jobbing on your way out", not if you're Kazuchika Okada lmao
Scott Steiner wearing your mid 2020's tiktok gym influencer girl complaining about someone walking infront of their camera ass hungers there
I remember that match. Probably a top 5 match I have seen.
Damn, having Ross and Dusty on commentary is just the cherry on the the beautiful Sunday!!
Everybody’s favorite El Gigante😆 In true WCW fashion, they didn’t really think that stretcher match through.
WCW or WWE should have hitched their wagons to Scott Steiner as face of the company in the early 90's. He had all the tools to be successful.
Vince wanted him to win the Royal Rumble in 1993 and get his main event push heading into WrestleMania but he didn't want to leave Rick behind

Scott Steiner is still listening to “Emo” traveling from show to show

Lex had his best hair days in WCW. That WWF hairdryer murdered him.
Lex with an over the top rope Northern Lights Bomb, too. Maybe he'd have accidentally fit right in in Japan, actually.
Let's be honest. There aren't to many people in the world that would not been scared poopless if they were cage with brody. Brody just stops working with you.

Luger left the cage because Brody showed hIm his fingers, which had a blade on each one!

match of the year in 91 hands down
Problem with the show was they had all of their wrestlers pop the crowd in one match.
R.I.P Pete. Your candle burned out long before, your legend ever did
4:15 Lex DID wrestle in Japan. he defended his World title against Masa Chono in Jan 92.
Luger wrestled in Japan he wasn't scared he just missed that year
Wait is the lil fella host dead? Im stoned and now concerned😢
Pete Lives! ❤️
I would put the tag title match from this show on a list with Randy Savage VS Ricky Steamboat at WrestleMania 3 for greatest ever
3:00 Not an accurate statement. They tried him as a singles while Rick was injured, he became TV champ and Flair and powers that be, held Scott down.
Gods be praised
Nice one.
God that mat is filthy.
Classic match
Scott’s arse looks like it’s carved out of wood btw.
Didn't they wrestle in Japan?
Jim Cornette has a watch along of this match on his RUclips channel with some great insights into it.
Will miss Pete, and his love of the keytar…
luger is underrated too.
Steiners at this time were Gods of Hoss battles, maybe more so at this time, more than the Road Warriors.
Best wrestling channel on RUclips

Megan Thee Stallion. Gigante Thee Giant
I'm glad sting and lugar are gone.
2nd!!!!
Luger’s best match? I think so!
I am trying to imagine what the modern equivalent of that Steiner vs Sting/Lex match would be.
Maybe FTR versus Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins?
I think not 100%
