The girl playing the bass is Becky Bowman, who is a friend of the family. I am not sure of why, but from all the videos I’ve watched it looks like she joined when Anita began focusing on her vocals and stopped playing the bass as much.
Becky Bowman joined in 1952 to temporarily take Helen's place while she was pregnant with her 2nd son Kenny. She bought an accordion and learned how to play it in the car on the way to Nashville from Missouri. What started out as a part time stand-in replacement turned into a 4 year stay and would take Anita's place on bass after Helen would return to the group. And Anita would focus on her vocals as she was happy to let Becky play bass after playing it since 1942/43
@@tonylupo1764 Also, Anita wasn't happy playing the bass, as she felt it wasn't ladylike. It is rumored that Becky and Maybelle had an intimate relationship.
Just so ya know, they're miming over the studio recording, for this TV spot. The clues are (besides the spot-on tuning & vocal blend): An invisible electric guitar, a studio reverb applied only to the backup harmonies, and balance/mixing of all elements that, in those days, could only be achieved in a controlled studio environment.
she nailed it. What a time to be alive to see this
June took it to a new level.
So great!!!!
What a joy to watch.

She almost beat Janet Jackson to the Wardrobe malfunction but she caught that strap just before it slipped off the shoulder. LOL
all look beautiful. Maybelle looks like an actress. Gail Russel?
I'm wondering if "Mother Maybelle" ever wrote down any of her memories when she was with the Carter Family.
Anita was it
She was the best singer and the prettiest but June had a personality on stage you couldn’t beat.
That 'ol gal is good lookin' and built too! Don't dance too good tho.
