+Pedro Pereira I don't get why he can't just say in Metallica.... you know it's like: "yeah that one nice riff from ride the lightning, I wrote that!" he can be proud of his contribution to metallica and he can be very fucking proud of forming his own band and make enough money from it to have a nice live and play on the same stages as metallica... he got kicked out of metallica, yes they are more famous than him or his band, but he managed to get back alone andduring time to work with such talented fuckers like marty friedman or chris broderick, so what's the deal? you wanna be an alcoholic and have an embarrasing documentary about it? you wanna produce a movie only die hard fans watch and you lose money from it? I think dave is the winner, sure he's not as rich as any metallica member but with the advantage of not being recognized everywhere he goes etc.
That episode was so funny LOL "Genetically engineered in a lab and raised by wolverines Dave Mustaine went on to become the heart and soul of Megadeth"
he´s dynamic and unnconventional so he donpt play as usual metal players do, that´s why he appears to be that smart at the guitar, but from the practical point of view he just make nonsense shit
lucky dominguez Are you saying that he is not a good guitar player? Is that what you said? And he is a smart person... I don't say that because I'm a fan... There was this show where he appears once and he beat all the other players... It was a show about "quest and answer"... The day I watched that video I realized he is not just good at guitar but also a smart guy
Calebe Priester i´m saying he´s unnconvencional for playing guitar and there´s why he´s so smart at playing guitar, cause he does a lot of things that don´t make any sense but that sound good as damn (like bassically 90% of thrash guitar players). And yup, he´s still a very smart person and really great music composer. BUT! saddly, he´s a very overrated guitar player when comes to soloing, people put him like in a God level when he actually barely play different solos.
Hell yes thank you Dave. Just that little technique did huge things for me. I’m using it in a lot of different ways. I’m not going to listen to nobodies ramble about theory and stuff I’m just gonna watch legends like Dave.
snickerz52 dave mustaine co-wrote ride the lightning, so he indeed did the spider chord section of the song it was one of the last songs he wrote with metallica, as well as call of ktulu
Dave is one of my top 5 guitar players. I love his work with the Call of Kutlu, Four Horseman, and others. I have tried this spider chord. Yes she can be quite the stubborn because you have to retrain your brain
This spider chord technique is real easy to get ahold of and helps BIG TIME. It is just like Dave says, economy of movement. You get 2 power chords for the price of one...just raise/lower your pinky and strum either strings 5-6 (pinky engaged) or 4-5 (pinky left off). Then slide up and down the neck as you see fit. Check it out on wiki too, great demo video.
this technique helps for a lot of songs in the whole scene of heavy metal. hard rock and rock, nice job Dave the whole world of guitarists must thank you for this
Anything with credit to Mustaine on the first 2 albums means that he wrote at least part of the song. In his case being a guitarist means that he wrote some of the riffs. 'Ride the Lightning' has a Spider Chord riff so my guess is that he at least wrote that riff.
I came up with this awesome "spider chord" technique a fucking century ago while just casually dorking around with some powerchords. Yeah Dave, tell us how you got the Nobel prize for discovering that water gets colder when you put it in the fridge.
If your index finger is on the 5th fret of the A string, and your ring finger is on the 7th fret of the D string, that's a chord. Then if you hold your fingers there and stretch your middle finger over to the E string 6th fret, and pinky over to the D string 8th fret, that's the "spider chord." Dave Mustaine is doing that up the neck. Did that help at least a little? That's the best way I can explain it. There's videos too demonstrating the "spider chord" as well.
He's such a nice guy. All people in metal are nice. When their sober but even on the subject of metallica he sucks it up and says that he made a mistake. But trys to say that metallica would be better with him. Metallica on the other hand thinks the same thing.
There's no reason to hate so much, kirk isn't a pentatonic shredder, more so major/minor just like the flow of most music, he uses lots of chromatic patterns too. Learn before you burn on a youtube comment..
Becker is awesome - anyone not familiar with his work check out Altitudes or any of the Cacophony stuff with Marty Friedman. Just imagine what Jason would have done if ALS had not altered his life forever. Not only as a guitarist, but as a human, Jason is an inspiration to all.
Which is probably why Ride The Lightning is my favorite Metallica album. It has so much of a Mustaine and Megadeth feeling in it. You can hear it with the riffing in the songs.
Dave trips me out, he's alright , Overdosed too many times, hospital pronounced him dead for week ,i heard on vh1 Mustaine lives like he plays, very rare
I'm not saying I'm any good (cuz I'm not), but I kind of discovered this accidentally. So it is called a "Spider Chord". I sort of did these on a seven string guitar when I was trying to play Drop-D riffs on a standard-tuned instrument.
i know he just wrote parts, and actually he wrote the four horsemen complete in all because they changed the lyrics after he left,, and if you actually look it up he has unclaimed rights to leper messiah its in his book and online
I think that this sounds like the ride the lightning riff it would make sense because the had to change the ride the lightning riff so james could sing and play guitar at the same time
Very interessting tip Dave! I have never seen James Hetfield of Metallica using the "spider chord". He holds the guitar so low and with such a low guitar positon it is impossible to play spider chords. Doesn´t mean that James is a bad guitar player.
Pardon me if I'm being a bit of a noob, but I have been playing guitar for a few months, and I want to figure out how to utilize the spider chord because I feel like I'm doing it wrong. Can someone help explain it to me? I'm probably just a slow learner. Btw, Dave Mustaine is jaw droppingly good.
"my previous band" Lol
cant tell if metallica or panic
Tyreek Murillo Propably Metallica, he does that thing in Ride the Lightning too
he doesnt like bringing up metallica at all.
Tyreek Murillo I mean there was MD.45
He was trying to be humble. He didn't need to brag about his creative and profoundly deep influence in Metallica.
"my previous band" :)

+JayBee Jones badass... who cares, he's the ONLY person who can say he gets royalty checks from Metallica AND Megadeth.

"The other guys" xD
Dave's a great teacher... I'll be trying his spider chord thing soon
@@NubsWithGuns I have a guitar yes, I am just eager to try new things you know when I see them
@@jezza10181 He says to downpick them, but he doesn't down pick them live. His hand is constantly going up and down when striking a chord.

"Genetically engineered in a lab and raised by wolverines Dave Mustaine went on to become the heart and soul of Megadeth"
I'm the best at what I do, but what I do isn't very nice. Dave Mustaine is Wolverine in real life confirmed.
Now that I think of it... the quote should read more "Nobody rocked louder, harder or FaThThTur than Dave MuThThTaine!!!!!"
Jeromy Chavez take my upvote and get the eff out.
Mustaine is a monster and Holy Wars-The Punishment Due is a metal masterpiece.
BlackDogsMatter True. It's just too bad that he's such a complete dick.
Almost every Megadeth song is a Masterpiece.
They sure are
Jason M wrong
Long live mustaine the metal god.
Love how detail oriented he is. Recognizing string noise is a problem and how to avoid it and save time at the same time. Really cool.
Jeez. Don't you guys know anything? His previous band was Motley Crue.
Ash Chaya Smoking in da Boyz room. ..
Ash Chaya Motleyllica
O I thaught it was QUEEN
Still my favourite lead guitarist to play for Lynyrd skynyrd..all joking aside Dave RULES
I thought it was Rush :p
I love Dave mustaine. The guy is a genius, You have to respect that even with all the shit he says
'Genius' LOL
Al humphits He truly is a music genius... not like Mozart or Bach but in heavy music the guy is a genius... or was... megadeth is shit nowadays...
he´s dynamic and unnconventional so he donpt play as usual metal players do, that´s why he appears to be that smart at the guitar, but from the practical point of view he just make nonsense shit

“Symphony of Instruction” I’m dead now.
Great Dave ,this man deserves all my respect \m/
The greatest riffers don't always do the most complicated playing; they know how to do the most with little effort.
Such a slick player. Ive always admired D. Mustaine's playing

Metallica dude!

VEHICROS DUDE! DON'T YOU EVER TALK SHIT ABOUT METALLICA!!
I used to like Metallica when I was a kid, but not anymore, sorry
The song from his "previous band" he's pretending not to remember is Ride the Lightning.
He also did that in his "previous" band lol
that made me laugh a bit when he said that lol
Are you sure he just wasn't talking about Panic?
Caleb Shenefelt My first thougt was the song ride the lightning.. :)
David Berggren ride the lightning wasn't in the kill em all album so it couldn't be.
snickerz52 dave mustaine co-wrote ride the lightning, so he indeed did the spider chord section of the song
it was one of the last songs he wrote with metallica, as well as call of ktulu
0:55-1:05 Dave didnt realize he just played Rock Soldiers by Ace Frehley :)

Dave, incredible guitar player... Deep respect from India.
He seems like such a chill dude but I heard he goes into straight up beast mode when he's on the sauce.
I practise every day Mustaine's spider chords ! Good exercise and it gaves me lots of ideas ! THE BEST §§§§§
He could be referring to MD45, his band from the late 90's :)
Yet Wake Up Dead was released in 1986.
Nice burn.
Daniel Cabral He could, but he's actually referring to Metallica, specifically to that one riff in Ride The Lightning...
Fer Raya sure he's not talking about panic?
Well MD.45 was a side project though
I like how no one in this comment section actually namedrops "Dave's previous band"
Panic!
I know it was two years ago but you deserved credit for this
Kick Ass Dave Mustaine for life

He did all of Jump. That was the first song he ever wrote. He said it in an interview.
He had writing credits for 2 songs on Ride the Lightning.
Obviously the title track, and then he wrote The Call of Ktulu.
the man is a legend an icon an inspiration a complete package of excellence and dexterity.my al time favorite.
Thank You Dave Mustaine for created the best songs of my life
The riff before Kirk Hammets Solo in Leper Messiah is one of my favorite Metallica riffs .. so is the spider chord riff of Ride the Lightning
I love how these arguments begin with two people and end with two different people.
I'm french and I just nothing understand what dave said but just see him is awesome for me hehe
OH GOD MY HANDS
Rust. Kek in peace>solo
It's 2062, I'm 93 years old, and I'm still trying to perfect the spider chord. It has yet to come together.

Thanks dave! Been playing it wrong since 1994!!
You're awesome Dave.
Never let anyone tell you different ! Keep doing all that you do. 😆😁😎
The band with the 'Slayer guy' was Megadeth, Kerry King played for Megadeth for a few shows in 1984.
he was refering to metallica and he meant the ride the lightning song.when he said his "previous" band
Exactly. That's it. It's a really good way of switching chords without creating string noise.
Wonder what his previous band was ? Hope they’re doing good now
Thanks Dave! Essential technique!
iN mY PRevIoUS baNd
apparently he wrote the main riff in leper and ride, which i dont doubt cause the dude had rust in peace written before he was even in metallica
My favorite guitarist
If your index finger is on the 5th fret of the A string, and your ring finger is on the 7th fret of the D string, that's a chord. It was on one of the other videos on RUclips about his spider chord. I'll see if I can find it.
Easy and effective technique, been using it for years
Dave should get noble prize for this invention
He's such a nice guy. All people in metal are nice. When their sober but even on the subject of metallica he sucks it up and says that he made a mistake. But trys to say that metallica would be better with him. Metallica on the other hand thinks the same thing.
yeah I'm pretty sure we wasn't in the band when that song/album was getting wrote.
Absolute genius behind that guitar

WOW! Love that sound!
God, he stutters like a true addict..
"I don't have much time to stare at the guitar".... **does nothing but stare at the fretboard while playing**

Glad we're on the same page.
Does he mean ride the lightning? If so, idea he wrote that.
+Bats he did write that riff in rtl
Which is probably why Ride The Lightning is my favorite Metallica album. It has so much of a Mustaine and Megadeth feeling in it. You can hear it with the riffing in the songs.
You are a legend you say that your previous band was metallica
took me a few tries, but i got it! I never in 15 years thought to use my fingers to "cheat" that way 😅😅 thanks Dave!!
You're the man Dave!! 🤘
if you are going to quote him i would like to know where i can find the original text
ok thank you so much! And can you use it with just 3 fingers to switch from say an E A power chord to an A D power chord?
Awesome genious like Dave's is great cuz he can reinvent something that is 1,000 yrs. old and forgotten just by being awesome!
Much respect for Dave, he so underrated as a guitarists. Megadeth rulzzz!
Check out Daves middle break, solo in that song. It will keep you up at night, trying to get it rite.
watch him teach Dave Navarro spider chords (search it), he plays the ride the lightning riff when he says "the way i did it in metallica"
he wrote metal militia, the four horsemen, the phantom lord, jump in the fire, leper messiah, and the riff in ride
Dave trips me out, he's alright , Overdosed too many times, hospital pronounced him dead for week ,i heard on vh1 Mustaine lives like he plays, very rare
Nice! Dave mustaine also wrote the song ride the lightning, there is a part on it, this technique applies
he wrote that riff
So cool! Thanks uncle Dave! You're the best!
I'm not saying I'm any good (cuz I'm not), but I kind of discovered this accidentally.
So it is called a "Spider Chord". I sort of did these on a seven string guitar when I was trying to play Drop-D riffs on a standard-tuned instrument.
So it's just being able to switch between two chords without moving your hand?
I think it's badass that Dave does these.Right on Dave. The children are our future or some crap like that.
Well... it makes sense. Thanx Dave.
Is he referring to panic Metallica or md45 ?
Dave is a Legend
Holy Slick That Was Sick!
Holy shit he's living in 2040 while we are all stuck in 2018
lol I'm ghaving a good time practicing spider chords. It's quite hard to start off, but when u're learning, it goes more fluent as u practice more.
he didn't play them, he wrote them, Dave got kicked out before ride the lighting came out
He also probably uses it (at least I do) when he wrote no remorse. That's really the only way to hammer on a power chord.
i know he just wrote parts, and actually he wrote the four horsemen complete in all because they changed the lyrics after he left,, and if you actually look it up he has unclaimed rights to leper messiah its in his book and online
simply genius... my new favorite guitarist for sure
I think that this sounds like the ride the lightning riff it would make sense because the had to change the ride the lightning riff so james could sing and play guitar at the same time
and do you know which song with spider chord riff it actually was? i just want to listen to that song...
he seems awfully proud of that progression though he never really uses it live, or in many songs either(if not only on wake up dead)...
there's a reason he's one of the pioneers of thrash metal.
Very interessting tip Dave! I have never seen James Hetfield of Metallica using the "spider chord". He holds the guitar so low and with such a low guitar positon it is impossible to play spider chords. Doesn´t mean that James is a bad guitar player.
The problem is I do my power chords with my pinky adding an octave to the root, so I just suffer
so for this song, or song's like this, you would have to play power chords with your index and ring.
Xclusivity Ikr. I had to "unlearn" the root octave, just so I could play the spider chord.
3 months later, I've learned to switch from 3 string to 2 string, and learned when I shouldn't add the root when it comes to how it sounds.
I broke the habit of adding the octave quite quickly, since in most cases the two-string powercord just sounds much better
Heh im having trouble doing that , as i ve got used on using my 1st and 4th fingers for simple 2 fret powerchords
Lol I've seen Kirk Hammett wear that shirt too.
