As a math teacher, I want to commend you on your ability to clearly explain a new, complicated topic to a wide audience. I was just given this game by a friend for Christmas, and I really had no idea what was going on in the one game I played. You did an amazing job of defining your audience, and then proceeding to patiently describe each new aspect of the game without going too slowly. You didn't dwell on the small repetitive details, and you strongly emphasized each major point. It sounded like I was listening to you read off a well-constructed slideshow presentation while showing game footage. You also made it clear that there is more than one way to play the game, saying that there isn't necessarily a "correct" sequence of events the player needs to complete. Well done, keep it up! I'm excited to watch the next video in this series!
Thank you so much for the great feedback! I’m really proud of how this series turned out and it’s very nice to read someone so eloquently detail the successes of my hard work! Cheers!
I wrote a novel and can't make heads or tails with this game. It is soooo complicated. The tutorial in game does a very poor job of explaining what you're supposed to do.
Man, I know it's been years but I just bought it on sale with all expansions, technically a first time player. Other youtubers also do a good job, but there's something about yours that just made everything click! I understand a bunch of stuff I didn't before. I wished I've had found your video before because I mostly f'd up my first 40 turns, but I'm gonna keep going as practice and when I eventually loose start a better one with some more experience under the belt! Awesome content!
So glad I found this channel. I bought the game and all DLC two days ago - I’ve never played a Civ game but have always wanted to but felt too intimidated and overwhelmed. Having checked many other guides, most seem to overestimate how much information people already know, so having someone walk through and explain in detail what is happening is a godsend. Thanks m8.
Played the game when it first came out for about 30 hours and haven’t touched it since but wanted to get back into it, Thank you for this, super concise yet detailed and the use of the vanilla format is greatly appreciated

THANK YOU. I splurged on this during the summer sale and it is so different from civ 5. It was genuinely so distressing that I almost gave up in my first game and went back. I'm going to binge all of your videos now.
I love how you start the video by telling us what to expect and who will benefit from the video. I love know 2 mins in whether or not I want to commit to a long video. You got a new sub, keep it up, very helpful video.
Thanks for the guide man. I'm really glad you went in depth with the actually *strategy* of the early game rather than just explain what things are at a surface level, it really gives us a clear view on what to expect for our games, so thanks for the great video!
Thank you so much for the kind words, I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed! I hope the second and third parts of this trilogy are as enjoyable and helpful as the first.
I've always seen Civilization doing big numbers and I've wanted to play but the game seems so advanced and kind of daunting. Thank you for breaking it down and explaining the basics of the game, I'm off to download it now. Thank you 🙏
Bought the game last year on sale (switch version) and tried playing it without any knowledge about Civ whatsoever. Today on the 5th of February 2023 I'm watching your tutorial which amazingly teaches me how to play the game I got myself more than a year ago. Thank you so much
Appreciate this so much 🤓. I played an old civ and wanted too get back and try the new one recently and it just shocked me that i had NO idea on what heck i was doin anymore lolz so i really appreciate your content
I'm completely new to the game, and this has been such a great resource after playing the initial tutorial, in which I felt utterly clueless. Thanks so much for putting in the time to share. your experience so effectively. I've learned WAY more in the first 25 minutes of watching than I did in the tutorial.
Thank you for this, I've been wanting to get into civ for so long but it's pretty daunting. It's nice to have an experienced player give the basic overview on how to get started!
Ten mins into the tutorial and you taught me stuff I've had no idea about after playing this game for like 1 hour, thank you so much man you deserve a sub from me :)
If releasing RUclips videos on BluRay was somehow a thing, I'd plaster this comment on the front and watch them sell like hotcakes! Thanks so much for the kind words!
This video is gold. I started with TheCivLifeR videos but his stuff are advanced. This is the video you watch first (the whole 3 part series) instead of the built-in tutorial and THEN you watch TheCivLifeR's. These two will make you unstoppable in Civ6.
This tutorial is the go to one, when you start to play it now. The game itself is too overwhelming without some proper explanation if you have never played it. I bought it for the switch and already started over like 4 times, for just improving my basics and getting to learn the game. It really takes time for all the information to sink in. But i still believe it's a great game if you have the patience. Or at least i hope so hahaha. Nevertheless thanks a lot for having put this tutorial together. It's still great 3 year's later!
Really appreciate the wonderful feedback, thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed. If you haven't done so already, don't forget to check out the second and third parts of this Basics Trilogy! ;)
Very good! I picked up the anthology edition 85% off on Steam and managed to play through a game to about 480 turns before the A.I won. So many interelated mechanics and this tutorial helped me understand what I was doing!
I picked up Civ 6 a while back having never played any Civ games before and tried several times to play but couldn't. figure. it out. This tutorial helped SO much. Can't thank you enough!
Balances rules with advice in a really good way so that I both know "what I should probably do" and "why I should probably do it" to enough of an extent I can start analyzing other decisions.
Thank you dude, you are speaking so slowly and I am able to understand so much from you. You are going into depth and giving us info on why to get something and explaining all the reasons to do that and how that affects the game. I never enjoyed tutorials so much as I did now.
Great tutorial. I've blundered through the game with very little understanding of most of the mechanics, so this is very enlightening. Thank goodness I could set the speed to 1.25 though! (sorry!)
I've been playing this game since it was free on Epic - maybe 2 years ago. I have not had a good grasp of this game until I won my first game immediately after watching this video. Thanks!
Super good and describes why and how to make decisions for new players. Too many tutorials just telling you what to do but it doesn't help you understand why
I'm glad you enjoyed! It makes me so happy to know that this series has helped so many! Speaking of which, make sure you catch the 2nd and 3rd parts! ;) Thanks for watching!
I too have never played Civ games. I always saw them during my life and now have decided to start playing this labor day weekend. I'm so glad to find your helpful tutorials. I've tried others but you have a way that explains it simply and have a wonderful calm voice that makes following so much fun! I can tell you a way passionate about this game and I look forward for it to becoming my main game. Thanks man!
It's always so heartwarming to get such a kind and thoughtful comment. I'm really happy for you that you've taken the plunge into the "one more turn" waters of Civilization! Civ 6 is a wonderful game that you'll enjoy more and more every time you play it, I'm really happy to hear that my tutorials are helping you along your journey! Welcome!!
just bought this a couple days ago. I spent 5 hours gameplay and an hour of reading online guides but was still lost. After watching this video the basics finally make sense. thank you!
Excellent tutorial, started playing yesterday and couldn’t help but feel I missing so much, and it turns out that hunch was right. Thanks for clearing everything up
Thank you for the tutorial. I just got into the series with Civ 6 and found it very challenging, even with the in-game tutorial which does not allow you to save your progress, so if you have to do something else, you would have to restart the tutorial all over again or just get yourserlf into a game with the AI punishing you for not knowing the basics.
I just started playing yesterday with my cousin and his friends. It’s super overwhelming and fun. This video has helped me tremendously, it will definitely help me when we play again
@@Normul8or you actually convinced me to get back into civ 6! i play on switch and didn't understand the game and so stopped, but this tutorial has lead to my first 4 wins!

Glad you enjoyed! If you’re looking for more help this was only part one of a three part series, and I also have some other guides available in my library! 👍
This video was excellent. Great presentation and organization. Thanks for speaking at a normal pace. Some RUclipsrs just talk so fast it is tough to learn.
Just got the game off of game pass, super interested in it and was very confused. The game is incredibly intricate and was scary trying to play without this video. Thanks!!
I just got this game since it was on sale and my friends were all hyped to try it. Tried playing once and it was fun but I didn't really understand what was going on. Your explanations have helped tremendously in my understanding of the game and I'm so excited to go back and try it out on a fresh civilization. Thank you so much!!!
Im going through some health problems so I'm stuck at home for the next 2 months and needed a single player game that I could sink tons of hours into, everyone said try civ 6 so here i am. this tutorial was so helpful. thanks dude.
Ive tried getting into civ games over the years and found them impenetrable in terms of the learning curve. I just had no idea what to do or direction to go in and as such I just gave up. Over the last few years I've really got into board games and civ 6 popped up in a steam sale recently so I picked it up and decided this is the time I stick with it. Having watched your video, I found it very well explained and came away and completed my first game. I lost but learnt a lot from my mistakes. Still a ton to learn to really get a grasp but your video has helped me enjoy this game. Now I understand the memes of "one more turn"
That first tip with the UI really is... a game changer (pardon the pun). I discovered this awhile ago, very useful. Also "goodie hut" is wholesome and I 100% will be referring to those villages as goodie huts from now on.
I might be a little late to the party but I just got the game with no prior experience with the other games in the series. I played a game with my friend and promptly lost to some barbarians haha, very confusing at the start but once you start understanding everything a little bit it gets really fun! Thanks for the good tutorial!
It’s been so long that I played any civ games and then I spotted VI with a huge discount on Nintendo Switch eshop sometime ago and grabbed it immediately. It feels really weird to play this kind of game with the console controls and the difficulty gets compounded by the amount of changes the series had since I last played. Thanks to your video I was able to hit the ground running and been enjoying it quite a bit. Keep up the good work.
I started a campaign with 5 of my friends. I have just clicking buttons and was always behind with science and culture. After watching this video, I'll try to implement it to my gameplay and hopefully I can catch up to them
Happy I was able to help. This game gets much easier with repetition so stick with it and keep trying new things. And of course, make sure you watch the second and third parts of this series if you haven't done so already! :)
I saw the ultimate bundle on Switch and had never REALLY played Civ before, but I took the plunge and I've been playing on baby-mode cus I was intimidated. This guide is great and answered everything I wasn't super clear on, cheers man!
Just bought Civ 6 for 5 bucks on ps5 and im lovinggg it......never played a Civ game before but grew up playing Medieval total war and age of enoires and other games like it. Its been 15 years though.....THANKS FOR THE HELP
Great video!I play Civ Rev a lot and it's time to focus on this game too. Thanks for the infirmative tips.Very useful for a new easier start on this marvelous game.
I started out with Civilization Revolution 2 on my android phone a while back, got Civ 6 on sale for my new PC recently and learning it now... It's soo much better than Revolution, which makes sense because Revolution is a vastly simplified/dumbed down version of Civ. Apparently you can play Civ 6 on mobile too now, but that sounds like an extremely uncomfortable way to play. There's too much going on and too much small text to read.
This guide is helping me a lot. Its way better then the actual tutorial for the base game, specially as a beginner to Civilization. For a beginner, what map type and size do you recommend.
Thank you for the pace. Most tutorials are frenetic, use jittery and inconsistent mouse work, and the viewer is forced to set playback at 75% or even 50%. Finally a presentation that doesn't appear meth induced. :-)
I occasionally get comments from people saying I talk to slow, but mostly I get people like you preferring the slower teaching style pace. Perhaps Meth explains the comments from the people complaining. 😆
I used to play a lot of civ rev on Xbox and even playing recently. I have a Nintendo Switch and saw Civ 6 on sale and I started playing yesterday. Really love how your video goes over the basics and I learned a few things that I decided to restart from scratch. Anyways really appreciate the vid thanks a lot.
great video, thank you. I have never played any strategy games, but decided to get this since it was on sale on Steam. Spent a few hours, not really knowing what to di (followed the in game tutorial). This tutorial was very clear. I will check your next tutorial and then get back to the game.

I've always seen Civilization doing big numbers and I've wanted to play but the game seems so advanced and kind of daunting. Thank you for breaking it down and explaining the basics of the game, I'm off to download it now. Thank you 🙏
🙏?!
Bought the game last year on sale (switch version) and tried playing it without any knowledge about Civ whatsoever. Today on the 5th of February 2023 I'm watching your tutorial which amazingly teaches me how to play the game I got myself more than a year ago. Thank you so much
Same!!!!! I couldn't figure it out till now.
Appreciate this so much 🤓. I played an old civ and wanted too get back and try the new one recently and it just shocked me that i had NO idea on what heck i was doin anymore lolz so i really appreciate your content
Really happy to hear this, mate! Means so much every time I read a comment like this.
This guide was the difference from giving up to actually getting going. 10/10
I'm completely new to the game, and this has been such a great resource after playing the initial tutorial, in which I felt utterly clueless. Thanks so much for putting in the time to share. your experience so effectively. I've learned WAY more in the first 25 minutes of watching than I did in the tutorial.
Hope parts 2 & 3 were just as helpful!
Thank you for this, I've been wanting to get into civ for so long but it's pretty daunting. It's nice to have an experienced player give the basic overview on how to get started!
Hope you’re enjoying the game!
Ten mins into the tutorial and you taught me stuff I've had no idea about after playing this game for like 1 hour, thank you so much man you deserve a sub from me :)
Glad to be the 100th person to like this video. Much better and straightforward than other tutorials
If releasing RUclips videos on BluRay was somehow a thing, I'd plaster this comment on the front and watch them sell like hotcakes! Thanks so much for the kind words!
Best tutorial video for Civ 6 I’ve seen. You have gained a new subscriber. Thanks for the little details that help to better understand the game.
It truly never gets old hearing how much people are finding these tutorials so helpful! Thanks for the kind words!
This video is gold. I started with TheCivLifeR videos but his stuff are advanced. This is the video you watch first (the whole 3 part series) instead of the built-in tutorial and THEN you watch TheCivLifeR's. These two will make you unstoppable in Civ6.
Thanks so much for all of your videos. I really appreciate your in-depth knowledge and experience. Keep up the great work 👍
Agreed
This tutorial is the go to one, when you start to play it now. The game itself is too overwhelming without some proper explanation if you have never played it. I bought it for the switch and already started over like 4 times, for just improving my basics and getting to learn the game. It really takes time for all the information to sink in. But i still believe it's a great game if you have the patience. Or at least i hope so hahaha.
Nevertheless thanks a lot for having put this tutorial together. It's still great 3 year's later!
I'm a new player and I love how I can tell how much you enjoy this game by the way you explain it with such love. Great video, keep it up !!
So many interelated mechanics and this tutorial helped me understand what I was doing!
just bought this game and played the tutorial and was still kinda lost. thank you for this!!
So many lost hours watching tutorials that just don’t help…until I stumbled upon this one. Thanks so much friend! Very informative
Great to hear! Thanks!
I picked up Civ 6 a while back having never played any Civ games before and tried several times to play but couldn't. figure. it out. This tutorial helped SO much. Can't thank you enough!
So happy I could kick start your Civilization journey!
i dont play civ 6, i have no intention of every playing it, but i watched the whole thing. very interesting game, and well explained.
Thank you so much for helping me out! I was rather confused with everything going on but you helped out so much! Thank you!
Thanks, man, I’ve always wanted to get into these games but always been intimidated, this works it down really well
Balances rules with advice in a really good way so that I both know "what I should probably do" and "why I should probably do it" to enough of an extent I can start analyzing other decisions.
(sorry!)
Recently got the game and u explained the basics very well, u got another sub.
Thanks Jacob, it's great to have you!
This definitely deserves each and every view and like! Good guide man, thank you!
After watching this video the basics finally make sense. thank you!
Hopefully parts 2 and 3 of this basics trilogy will be just as helpful as you continue your Civilization journey!
Really glad you enjoyed! Don't forget to check out parts 2 and 3 of the series! ;)
I just started playing yesterday with my cousin and his friends. It’s super overwhelming and fun. This video has helped me tremendously, it will definitely help me when we play again
Music to my 👂s!
Just started playing this game today... I was completely confused until I saw your video. Thank you 👍
Glad I could help!
This is a great tutorial, well explained, clear examples and you elaborate your thought process which is helpful. Good job !
Very kind of you to say! Thanks for watching!
@@Normul8or you actually convinced me to get back into civ 6! i play on switch and didn't understand the game and so stopped, but this tutorial has lead to my first 4 wins!
I love how helpful, and thoughtful you are in your videos!
Just got this on the steam sale. First civ game ever! Loving the game so far but the games tutorial is fine not great. This was unbelievably helpful, thank you!
Thank you for this tutorial! I just bought Civ VI on PS4 for $6 and had no idea what I was doing prior to your tutorial. Thanks again!
I loved the idea of this game! I’ve never played any of them. I’m struggling soooo much bruh!! Thanks for the help! Definitely subscribing!
Im going through some health problems so I'm stuck at home for the next 2 months and needed a single player game that I could sink tons of hours into, everyone said try civ 6 so here i am. this tutorial was so helpful. thanks dude.
Hope your health is looking up! ❤️
Fantastic! Great overall strategy and nice selection of details so as not to make my eyes glaze over
Ive tried getting into civ games over the years and found them impenetrable in terms of the learning curve.
Just started the game after watching all your beginner guides thank you
Happy to help, hope you're enjoying!
I picked up he game yesterday and boy was this helpful! Thanks for making this!
My friends and I have played a lot of civ 5 but this video helped us get into 6 so much better than the in game tutorial, thank you!
That's great, hope you and your friends are having lots of fun with 6, it is such an amazing game, even compared to previous Civilization titles.
I'm about to play Civ6 on Switch (never played any Civ game before) and your video is tremendously helpful. thank you!
I might be a little late to the party but I just got the game with no prior experience with the other games in the series. I played a game with my friend and promptly lost to some barbarians haha, very confusing at the start but once you start understanding everything a little bit it gets really fun! Thanks for the good tutorial!
Thank you for this video. Very helpful with zero vulgarity. A rarity these days. Keep up the good work.
There are two more parts to the series if you haven’t seen them yet. 😄
I started a campaign with 5 of my friends. I have just clicking buttons and was always behind with science and culture. After watching this video, I'll try to implement it to my gameplay and hopefully I can catch up to them
As a new player I'm still trying to get my head around things, this video is clear an well done, has answered some questions I had.
Happy I was able to help. This game gets much easier with repetition so stick with it and keep trying new things. And of course, make sure you watch the second and third parts of this series if you haven't done so already! :)
Excellent tutorial, Normul8or! Many thanks for having taken the time to do these!
My pleasure!
This is the best game tutorial I've ever seen. You definitely know how to explain.
I hope you caught parts 2 and 3! 😊 I appreciate the kinds words.
I saw the ultimate bundle on Switch and had never REALLY played Civ before, but I took the plunge and I've been playing on baby-mode cus I was intimidated. This guide is great and answered everything I wasn't super clear on, cheers man!
I hope you watched all 3 episodes! 😉
Just bought Civ 6 for 5 bucks on ps5 and im lovinggg it......never played a Civ game before but grew up playing Medieval total war and age of enoires and other games like it. Its been 15 years though.....THANKS FOR THE HELP
You’re very welcome! Always makes me happy to know I’m helping people enjoy such a great game!
absolute legend mate
I have now moved from settler difficulty to chieftan. Following your tutorials will hopefully get me to the point to play against my friends 😅
Every game gets you closer! Keep getting more and more efficient and you’ll get there.
Great video!I play Civ Rev a lot and it's time to focus on this game too. Thanks for the infirmative tips.Very useful for a new easier start on this marvelous game.
Thanks so much, mate! Happy to help!
New to Civ here. Something I never would have thought of, adjacent mountains make you smarter.
Great video bro. I played civilization revolution on ps3 and just recently giving civ 6 a go. Definitely got a good understanding from this video!
Glad I could help! Happy Civing!
Realized I've been neglecting some very fundamental aspects of this game. Great video, thanks!
Awesome! Really happy to hear that. Make sure to catch the other two parts of this trilogy if you haven't done so already! ;)
Happy to help! Welcome to the greatness of Civ6.
great video, thank you. I have never played any strategy games, but decided to get this since it was on sale on Steam. Spent a few hours, not really knowing what to di (followed the in game tutorial). This tutorial was very clear. I will check your next tutorial and then get back to the game.
Just picked this up in the recent steam sale. Great guide, thanks!
Trying to get back into Civ VI and I found I hardly remember anything - not that I was ever that good. Thanks for a great tutorial.
Finally got a good laptop so I decided to play it the whole thing was a whole infodump and gave me stress your video is much easier to understand.
