    When the pandemic began, and I started working from home, I purchased a Steelcase Gesture, chair, after doing a lot of research. Not only was it top rated in general, but it’s very attractive, which is important to me in my home. I have back issues, and after about a year of use, the chair started causing me back pain. By that time, I was working part time in my office, where I was sitting in an older Aeron chair, which felt prefect. So, I bought a new fully loaded Aeron chair for home. But, I felt like it was fighting me all the time, and forcing me to sit in an uncomfortable posture. Because of Herman Miller’s great return policy, I was able to exchange it for an Embody chair. The Embody was a tough sell for me, because I find it very unattractive. But, the comfort level improvement was immediate. I love the many ways it can be adjusted, and how easy it is to do that throughout the day, depending on how my back is feeling. I have zero complaints about the armrests, and do not experience any of the noise issues that seem to always accompany reviews of this chair. I especially like the adjustable seat depth, which was something else I disliked about the Aeron. The journey to get to the Embody was a long one, but I have been extremely happy with it.

      Excellent points Christopher! The 30 day return policy in particular is something I forgot to touch on in the video, but it's such an awesome part of buying a Herman Miller Chair. The fact that you are able to try it out and return it within that time period is game changing. And I hear you on the Aeron - very comfortable chair (nothing like leaning back in an Aeron!) but it is a bit stricter in how the chair wants you to sit. Glad to hear that you are happy with your Embody!

      I have just bought Gesture for office and I am thinking to buy Embody for home. Like you, I also have issues with back pain. Proper desk set up is just half of the solution. Ideally, you should consider some exercising for your back (stretching and core muscle strength improvement). The chair will not solve the problem, even the best one:)

      Christopher, thanks for your write up. I was leaning towards buying the Embody until I watched this video. One of the cons he mentioned is if you want to sit up straight. I love sitting up straight. How has that effected you. Is sitting up straight your typical work posture?

      I'm switching from the Gesture to the Embody. I've had the Gesture for 3 months and have tried to hang in there, but I just cannot get comfortable in it and the seat is too thin for me it feels like it has no cushion and I can barely feel the lumbar support. I hope the Embody is my solution finally.

      Similar situation to me, except I went from the Omega to this! The Omega was a decent chair, and to be honest I didn't mind the pillow that you had to use with it, as unlike the Titan it didn't have that sweet lower back adjustment. But the Embody is on another level in my opinion. Thanks for watching!

      @Jrocc811 Год назад +1

      @@Broba_Fett 6 months later and still no back pain at all and I love the chair. I have the Atlas headrest and I do like it. You have to really crank down on the retention screw to get it to stay in place but overall I'm happy with it to. The seat depth is more than enough but the only thing that is annoying is that I like to sometimes rest my feet back on the wheel base and when the seat is adjusted all the way forward, my calves lift up the adjusting levers and the seat depth pulls back in. Its not a huge deal though.

    you said this chair isnt made for sitting up straight.
    i sat in the embody up straight and i love it.
    the thing is...the lumbar part becomes more aggressive the more upright you sit.
    you dont need forward tilt with the embody just because of the sole fact of the embodys possibility adjusting it for sitting straight at 90°. its actually MADE for sitting up straight. your posture is poor hence you dislike the sitting up straight. but the thing with embody is, you can benefit greatly from it because it envelops you and supports you any way you like to sit.
    you said it yourself that you need some time with embody. do some mobility and flexibility work and strengthen your upper body mostly posterior muscles and force yourself to sit upright, you will be amazed how good it is.
    all in all, good review.

    The embody is great, this was a very well made and informative, and honest review. I got a Haworth Fern because the back is higher, and the lumbar height is adjustable, I absolutely love it. I got mine during the pandemic. I love it. One of the coolest features is the freedom of movement to stretch the upper part of my body. It flexes with me and does not get in the way as most chair backs do. Also, its design is space age and I love sci-fi. Just ordered an Atlas headrest for it. Even without the headrest, I sometimes swivel the chair around to watch a movie on my flatscreen. Zero regrets.

    The Embody is the perfect chair if you like to sit in multiple positions. I absolutely love how adjustable the back is. I can legitimately sit in this chair for 8 hours and get up with 0 aching thanks to how much I can move & stretch while also always sitting in a good posture. Even being reclined or leaning back I feel supported at all times. I was scared I was going to regret spending an extra $500 over a Leap, but if anything I'm mad at myself for not spending this much sooner. I've went through 4 chairs in the last 10 years and was never truly comfortable in any of them.
    Also I'm 6'3 210 if any1 is wondering if it'd fit them. The extending seat is so nice as a taller person. 10/10 chair.

    Moving the chair around is pretty easy to fix, just change casters, roller blade ones are the ones you need for carpet floors. Getting rid of the pet is also easy lmao. On a more serious note, any fabric chair will have the same problem. The noisy part is a trade off for the movement it provides. I picked the aeron and it was pretty easy for me to decide. I live in a hot country, so mesh was a must for me, the other major deciding factor was the lack of depth adjustments in the arm of the embody. I like them level with my desk and to sit as near as possible to my desk, so it was a no no for me. The forward tilt it's pretty skippable to me, i almost never use it but it's nice to have, some people swear by it. I rarely use it at all, and when i do, i don't use it for long.

      @TwoByteThomas  Год назад

      Excellent point on the mesh, and something I didn't touch on in the video. For hotter places that is definitely a game changer. Very thoughtful comment! And yeah haha as far as the pet hair is concerned, I had a hard time emphasizing that a) it definitely has to do with the fabric, and b) because of the fabric, hair gets attracted to it like a magnet, even if my dog goes nowhere near it! 😂

      @@jjoohhhnn the fern system is nowhere near as complex as the embody. Design wise too, the fern is much more subdued and "commonplace". I've never sat in a fern and never will cause im in brazil unfortunately. Here only HM is a option, steelcase is basically impossible to get a hand if you're not a enterprise. Wish i could test all of them, but I'm more then happy with my aeron.

      @@alexworm1707 The fern's system is different than the embody's but it has just as many moving parts, they're just not as loud. My fern doesn't look commonplace, either. It's pretty clearly a very expensive chair. All chrome and black, with elegant lines. The Embody is cyberpunk and can be childish if you're trying to have a more professional look. But everyone's entitled to their opinions and preference. I live 1 hr away from HM, Steelcase and Haworth's HQ, so there's no shortage of chairs to try in my area, luckily.

    Do people actually use the tilt forward on their chairs? I had it on my Mirra 2 and never used it once. Cant you just type from a sat back position? The whole point of these chairs is to provide good support for your spine while working, so if you are tilted forward most of the day, its not going to be doing its job. I can't think of any scenario where I'd need to be leant forward for any extended period of time.
    Also for easy moving around on carpet, get some of them roller blade wheels for it. They are larger and run on ball bearings and make moving heavy chairs around a lot easier. They also run super quiet on hard flooring.

As far as alternatives outside of the Embody if you don't have any budget I would say the Aeron is also one of the best chairs available. The arm rests on it I would say are superior to the Embody and leaning back in it is quite awesome. Also in the Herman Miller lineup the Mirra is also great. For cheaper chairs the Secret Lab Omega/Titan are quite good (though not as ergonomic), and I've also used the IKEA Markus myself and I thought it was also a good chair for the price.

    Just brought my own HM Embody Logitech chair and it is really one of the best chair I have ever seated, I can only describe it like seating on an adjustable cushion and the additional form that only come with this chair actually significantly reduce the creaking sound and make the adjustable seat depth more thicker. Chair actually had a defect with the right armrest unable to lock on the second day and a bit disappointed since I spent quite a lot on it anyone I contacted my seller and they are sending a technician to check and hopefully can fix it.

    i bought this chair a week ago. My previous chair was t3 rush corsair or something which i had for 2 years and was horrible for my back. From the first time i sat on the embody it felt like heaven. This is the best chair i ve sat on so far. The only con i agree with is the price. Everything else like with the pet hair or moving the chair by its arm is extremely nitpicking. As for the noise, mine is totally silent, no creaking at all. Maybe because i only have it for like a week? Maybe it will become noisy after a while? we will see.
    Anyway, the reason i decided to spend that much for a chair was the backpain that every other chair i used was causing me. For me i say it's worth the money in the long run, since it has a 12 year warranty, so i m totally happy with my purchase, so far! ✌

    Thank your for your well though out video. I currently use a Hag Capisco, a chair I bought because I suffered from lower back pain and to it's credit never had back pain with it. However, my neck is a different story. Last weekend, I went to a local store that sells used office chairs to try out an Aeron. I wasn't too impressed but next to it they had an Embody. I thought it looked ugly but I gave it a try anyways and I can't stop thinking of this chair and how comfortable my first impression with it was. I think I'm going to take the plunge after I save some money for it. I would buy at the used shop but they have a zero return policy and I think in this case the 12 year warranty merits the extra cash.

    How is the lumbar? Ive heard that you can feel it kind of hitting you in the back...

      I've heard similar complaints as well. Because of the firmness of the Logitech version, some have said that they can feel the individual flex points dig into their back, from the lumbar to the upper spine. But for me, I have not found that to be the case. In fact I don't notice that part at all. Overall it just feels very comfortable! 😊

    I got this used for like 690 bucks and modded it, now its has a form underneath to make it more comfortable and remove some excess cloth and removed the noise.. Right now this is as perfect as it can get and I paid half of what it actually cost !! For me , Yeah sure its worth it

    my setup is done (probably) and i'm so done with my secret labs chair.
    my pc is maxed out to my standards, massive desk, two giant high refresh rate screens, third 65inch oled tv, audiophile grade IEM and giant overhead headphones, japanese KKHB keyboard and asus claymore II, two types of mouse; orochi v2 for gaming and Razer Basilisk V3 Pro for work on a Artisan Hayate Otsu (Wine Red / L) FX MED (Japan Import). idk what else to buy except this chair.

    going to all these videos to tell u NOT to buy the staples hyken gives neck and backpain and headrest is too low to use if u sit up straight. im 6'1 btw.

      i've used the hyken for almost 2 years and it actually resolved my neck/back pain. but i'm only 5'7 and everything i've read suggests that it's a chair for short people. lol

      The chair was ergonomically designed to not require a headrest, and it's something I haven't missed on this chair after now more than two years of use. You can however purchase them separately from a company called Atlas, but personally I like the Embody just fine without one.

    I bought the regular embody for 1000 CAD back in 2020. Can't believe price went up beyond inflation. Gamers should stay away from the gaming embody and save hundreds of bucks. I love mine, no noises, and have no pets.

      Also don't buy Embodys online. Local HM distributors have access to better prices.

    • @TwoByteThomas
      @TwoByteThomas  Год назад +2

      Inflation definitely sucks, good point. The only thing I’d caution against buying from some (some) of the local distributors is that I’m not sure if the great 30 day return policy from Herman Miller that I forgot to mention will be honoured. I know for a fact that our local distributor here did not do that. I’m all for supporting small businesses but this is a minor detail I want to point out if in case it’s relevant for someone.

      @@TwoByteThomas oh, but by the time i ordered it, i had already tested a show floor one for 2 weeks, as my local distributor let me take one home (and they were happy to deliver it and pick it up from my place). New chair came straight from HM in the US. So the only thing that could have happened is that if the chair was faulty i would have to return it, at no cost am sure. So maybe the policies vary from vendor, to vendor? Also maybe early during the pandemic they were nicer to customers?

    Just brought my own HM Embody Logitech chair and it is really one of the best chair I have ever seated, I can only describe it like seating on an adjustable cushion and the additional form that only come with this chair actually significantly reduce the creaking sound and make the adjustable seat depth more thicker. Chair actually had a defect with the right armrest unable to lock on the second day and a bit disappointed since I spent quite a lot on it anyone I contacted my seller and they are sending a technician to check and hopefully can fix it.
