One of my favorite scripture time memories is from when my kids were young; the oldest was about 9 and my youngest was 1. My husband was out of town and I was totally overwhelmed trying to take care of everyone and do everything and be nice to my kids. One night I had just pulled my baby out of the bath; it was getting late and I was trying so hard to get the scriptures read every night. I was annoyed that I had to do the war chapters without my husband and my attitude was very much let's just get this done and check the box. So with my little one wrapped in a towel, and my other kids in their beds, we read one of these chapters. I remember glancing up and seeing the blank looks on my kiddos faces. My heart softened and I felt inspired to pull out some action figures and show the kids the army tactics. The atmosphere lightened and the spirit was strong. Then my naked baby, sitting on my lap, proceeded to pee on the lamanite army that was directly in front of me. Best scripture time ever! I couldn't even be upset that I had to clean up the pee.
Thank you for your closing comment, "Jesus is the real Hero, and the only reason any of us win battles." This is so true. I Love studying with the two of you.
So grateful for your teaching, Emily and David! The story of Dakota brought tears to my eyes. What wonderful kids to think to invite him! What I love most about your teaching is how 100% Christ-centered it is!!! Thank you for always bringing us back to the Savior.

Thank you always for your love and passion with which you persuade us to engage scriptures. I think the 'Dakota' story is powerful because all of us have been the 'one' Dakota that has been missing at sometime. My daughter has always been 'the one' missing like Dakota. Unfortunately, this includes Church groups despite being an obedient and strong member. I don't say this because I want people to say anything, but to really include someone is doing it always persistently for those people who cant yet give anything back. We need to as kids show us to break through our own vulnerabilities and love as Christ does. If you are doing 'one off' inclusion and never get a lump in your throat because you too scared to include someone or at least ask for them to come - then perhaps your missing an opportunity to grow. Christ showed us that going for the One, that the 99 would understand - a flock needs all its lambs xx thanks for this reminder - sweet is His word xx Looking forward to people with all abilities one day standing up and speaking in honoured positions at conference
When listening to the sweet Dakota story, I was struck by the beauty of the salutation, "Sister". That note of gratitude from Dakota demonstrates the power of being a "sister" or "brother" to all ages - especially our youth!! Thank you for sharing this story, Sister Freeman. ❤️
I love your story of Dakota....and who was missing. Makes me think we can do more to reach out to others who might not feel like they belong, or to our family members who might be missing as well. 💕
"Don't Miss This"... Emily and David are so down to earth...that is one of the reasons watching their You Tube videos are so fun. You never know what you will get in their conversations... Emily's story about Dakota really touched me. You never know who you will touch, and how it will impact their lives.
Your lessons are always so inspiring and edifying. I am so grateful for you both for creating a connection to scripture and truth that is so full of life and goodness. Your story about Dakota was really touching. How we affect the lives of others, we will never know. May we always ensure our influence is true and edifying. Love and blessings, Victoria from Johannesburg SA.
BWAHAHA! I am so happy David calls Ammoron "A moron"! Whenever we start reading these chapters as a family we have lots of giggles because that's how we all say it. And yep, I am the mom who is encouraging it (sorry, Emily 😊).
I love their personal messages and thoughts. So inspirational. I love “Covenant keeping fathers and righteous mothers equals stripling warriors”. Bless the parents in our current day that they may follow this example. We need many many Stripling Warriors.
Thank you so much for this lesson. There are so many Dakota's in this world who just need to have their spirits touched in the right way so they can find their direction in life. I hope all is well with him.
Really appreciate the effort and joy you two bring to studying the scriptures. David, I perked up when you said Y'all. I just moved from TX after living there 40yrs. I pray the seeds planted in Dakota's heart during seminary have come to fruition
I am so happy that you refer to Ammoron as "A moron" because that is the way I kept reading it in our family reading and the kids would all laugh while my wife would roll her eyes. She actually introduced me to your "Don't Miss This" Come Follow Me RUclips channel, and I am just giddy that she will hear the "a Moron" from someone else too. haha But really, you don't want "a moron" to be your leader! :) Thanks for the good work that you do. Love listening to you each week.
Oh David, it makes me so sad to think you could have had a bad week. Next time that happens please think of me and the huge difference you have made in my life and the strength of my testimony. Battle on!
David you always start with, “You all”. I love it. We love Texans! ❤️ All of my five sons were raised in Tx and two of them were born there. I am sorry that you are coming to end of, The Summer of Hero’s. It has been an awesome summer. I have enjoyed it! Thank you following the spirit and binging the light of Christ in my home. I love you both!!!! 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
We did the Braveheart background music (and Last of the Mohicans), popped popcorn and listened to the "radio broadcast" (audio version) of the chapters. It spiced things up a bit. Fun. Thanks for the idea (even if you didn't really mean it seriously).
Here in Victoria Australia 🇦🇺 Its very cold, but in lockdown by the heater watching David & Emily after having sacrament with only three of us, this helps to make my Sunday perfect ! ThankYou. 🙏🏽😷🇦🇺
Thank you for locking down! Here we have many thousands more cases and my stake president wants us to come back in person. Even when ward members are loud anti maskers. I hate how basic disease management is political here in America.
It would be a great addition to add a time marker in the MORE section that indicates where you step back and show the board. I am always looking for the things I missed after I listen and this would be helpful. Thanks for your work!! David makes my husband laugh out loud. Both of you light up our weeks!
For my fellow scripture journaling fanatics...I hope this is the right video for this comment...Emily mentioned a talk on the perimeters of war...something to watch for. I am just wondering if the word the Stake President was thinking of was Parameter? Which has a slightly different meaning (a limit that affects how something can be done) I find these “parameters”: 1. Accountability Alma 43: 3 2. Commandments of God Alma 43:47, 46:23 3. Covenants Alma: 43:13, 45:15 4. Faith Alma 44:4-5, 48:7 5. Gratitude Alma 44:5, 48:12 6. Inspiration Alma 43:45, 48 7. Prayer Alma 43:49 8. Prepare Alma 43:9, 19, 26 9. Preach 43:2 10. Revelation Alma 43:2, 23 11. Prophecy Alma 43:2, 24 12. Plan Alma 43:30 13. Duty 43:17, 46
I think she (and he, the Stake President) were referring to “perimeters”...meaning “defensive lines drawn around the center to be protected”. I could see the different “perimeters” in varying degrees of depth to provide the layers of protection for us and our families, just as military perimeters are created to protect the objective.
Oh you two make me laugh (and cry and feel the Spirit too!!) - Enjoy those Dr Peppers David!! 🤣 and thank you both for the time you spend teaching us!!! 💖
Thank you so much for the summer of heroes!! It was so fun. I was able to get the bracelet for my primary class. Also printed out the hero sheet. And sent them the information each week. Have a great week!!
Love the Take Five weekly ideas I've been keeping these for future study next time we do Book of Mormon. Wonder if you could resend the past two with corrected Heroes. Thanks!
David and Emily, I have been listening to your podcast all summer, and I’m so grateful for it and for you! You have helped bring the Spirit more into my life as you share your testimonies and love of the scriptures. I’m very grateful that you are both in my “donggi” and that we get to do this life together. I love the inspiration that has come to me as I’ve listened to you share your love of the Gospel, and it makes me so excited to share what I’ve learned with everyone! I feel more of a connection to everyone I see now, thinking that we are all here and sent at this time for a purpose, and that we need to have each others’ backs. Could someone please tell me how to spell the Korean word “Donggi”? I want to write it correctly and read more about it, but I’m having trouble finding it. Thank you!
Yass!! You know the word 동기- dongi. I served in Korea 10 years ago. Even though I don't talk to my dongi very often anymore because we've got families, it's like this connection that we have. And we call each other each other's dongi
Emily - your statement today reminded me of this quote that I LOVED from @LiveFromSnackTime "I have a lot to say, maybe you should make some popcorn." - anonymous - 6 years old
So, as Emily and David were speaking of getting little army men to represent the different groups I wanted to jump into their video and say, "Hey my husband did that exact thing several years ago when he taught gospel doctrine class!" He used magnets to attach them to the board. It was great!
The prisoners of war is mentioned so many times about his concern for them and willingness to keep them alive and Moroni’s POW were not children or women 54:3, 57:13-17, 32-33, and 36”I trust the souls.. who have been slain have entered into..God”. Any thoughts or insights? These events are recorded for a purpose.
Gini Bradley I found the link in the very first comment, where the kind gentleman provides the time stamps each week=] www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/broadcasts/worldwide-devotional-for-young-adults/2018/06/hope-of-israel?lang=eng
I am sad the summer of heroes is ending. I feel Pahoran really needs to be one. He was such a good example of patience, not taking offense, and empathy towards Moroni who was railing on him and not realizing the whole story.
There’s a comment in here by Michele Burstein where she mentions one. Someone else also suggests googling “Book of Mormon map”, which I’ve found quite good. The church declares itself geography neutral, emphasising that the text is more important. I would tend to agree, though it’s always fun to look at visuals! bookofmormoncentral.org/blog/church-releases-statement-on-book-of-mormon-geography has some info about this, as well as a couple of links to Knowhys about BoM geography, which you may find useful =]
Book of Mormon Central has some good maps. They aren't meant to say where things took place, but give you an idea of what the land might have looks like on a map. There is also one on the Church website to give an idea of the relation to each other. www.churchofjesuschrist.org/bc/content/shared/content/images/gospel-library/manual/14419/book-mormon-land-map_1941052.pdf
Be careful with this idea, though - there are many valiant, covenant-keeping parents who have children who have rejected the gospel. Often the equation makes no sense.
Sorry I have OCD, so I cannot stop thinking about it so I have to ask, who does the phone number belong to that is at the bottom of the chalkboard? Enjoy the videos, keep them coming. May God Bless you both.
At the end of Alma, it looks to me like Moroni died at the age of 42, the same year he went home. Kind of sad he didn’t have more time with his family. Alma 63:3
I thought of that, too, and feel sad each time I get to that verse to know that he spent from age 25-42 basically in battle. Most likely he died early as a result of the cumulative effect of all his wounds. It never talks about him being married or having a family, though we know he must as it mentions his son, Moronihah. That son must have been like his father or Moroni never would have entrusted the leadership of the army to him. What a valiant wife he must have had to support such a husband and his cause and raise righteous children mostly on her own. I'd like to know the whole story...
Can anyone help with what notes we were supposed to write on the top two thirds of the DMT journal page [shown on right hand side of board in video]? I’ve watched this video twice and cannot come up with anything, as well as reading the scripture references multiple times...
Start at the 26:35 mark in the video. They give two ideas of what to do with that list of adjectives. Also, if you look at my earlier comment with the Time Stamps, you will see the specific verses that are referenced with this list. Hope this helps!
It really has helped me. I can now “see” in my mind many of the places without having to refer to them. Also, Book of Mormon Central does a GREAT youtube video on the map. I found it very helpful.

Hi Ellen - there is a Don’t Miss This Study Guide available at Deseret Book. It has the worksheets for each week plus additional space for notes and personal insights. It’s excellent - highly recommended!
Dakota! I hope he is loved. So many chapters of scripture. So much to learn. I wish a bit less talking about yourselves. My friend who introduced me to Don't Miss This, said the same thing. She has stopped watching.
I really wish you would skip all the joking and laughter. In every episode I have seen there is at least 5 minutes of intro that have nothing to do with the lesson. Thank you

@@monicatalanoa5844 The story starts at 43:12 . :)
Great lesson! Thanks for the story of Dakota it almost brought me to tears - every individual matters, it's one of the biggest messages of the Gospel.

Yes!!!
I loved the sharing of your Mother’s sending the boy’s to get something and coming back down empty handed lol.
Haha, yes! So funny! Feeling your shoulders, then up your neck, then further up to see if anything is there LOL
You two are awesome, thank you for having such love for teaching the Gospel.
I love their personal messages and thoughts. So inspirational. I love “Covenant keeping fathers and righteous mothers equals stripling warriors”. Bless the parents in our current day that they may follow this example. We need many many Stripling Warriors.
Wow...the story about Dakota. Thank you for sharing and reminding us all to look around and see who's missing! 💙
The Dakota story made me cry with gratitude...That's boy's potential will come to fruition at some point. We all spiritually bloom at different times.
Also my favorite!!! I made sure to play that story for my family !8-)
I'm flabbergasted more each week how 'current' the Book of Mormon is!!! You could've written Alma in the past 10 years! Absolutely "for our day"!!!
Thank you so much for this lesson. There are so many Dakota's in this world who just need to have their spirits touched in the right way so they can find their direction in life. I hope all is well with him.
So many great stories this week ! These war chapters are brutal. So much destruction. Loved hearing all the ways it relates. Thank you 🙏🏽
Really appreciate the effort and joy you two bring to studying the scriptures. David, I perked up when you said Y'all. I just moved from TX after living there 40yrs. I pray the seeds planted in Dakota's heart during seminary have come to fruition

I seriously want to see what your “Hell Shaker” T- shirt would look like!🤣

Yes! I would like to see that too.
I kept thinking the same thing. It sounds like a biker gang.
I want one!!😂
I want a Hell Shake t-shirt and bracelet

I love you two! Thank you for bringing these wonderful versus come alive!

Hi JaNan - look at my earlier comment with the Time Stamps - you’ll see the mark where you can pause the video and *See the Board*. Hope this helps!
My heart was so incredibly touched. I wonder “where is Dakota?”
Dakota's the hero this week
Could be the next Zeezrom! :-)
For my fellow scripture journaling fanatics...I hope this is the right video for this comment...Emily mentioned a talk on the perimeters of war...something to watch for.
I am just wondering if the word the Stake President was thinking of was Parameter? Which has a slightly different meaning (a limit that affects how something can be done)
I find these “parameters”:
1. Accountability Alma 43: 3
2. Commandments of God Alma 43:47, 46:23
3. Covenants Alma: 43:13, 45:15
4. Faith Alma 44:4-5, 48:7
5. Gratitude Alma 44:5, 48:12
6. Inspiration Alma 43:45, 48
7. Prayer Alma 43:49
8. Prepare Alma 43:9, 19, 26
9. Preach 43:2
10. Revelation Alma 43:2, 23
11. Prophecy Alma 43:2, 24
12. Plan Alma 43:30
A great list of parameters! Love that you shared your insight.
We also need perimeters.
Thank guys 👍 for the lessons today and I enjoyed it. Be blessed and be safe amen.
Once again, Emily . . . I love your stories. For those kids to go and find the missing one, Dakota and invite him.
That was such a beautiful not to leave you. Beautiful story.
I’ve thought of that! Our little group we came to earth with
Oh you two make me laugh (and cry and feel the Spirit too!!) - Enjoy those Dr Peppers David!! 🤣 and thank you both for the time you spend teaching us!!! 💖
Thank you so much for the summer of heroes!! It was so fun. I was able to get the bracelet for my primary class. Also printed out the hero sheet. And sent them the information each week.
Have a great week!!
I love you guys! You're so fun and it makes studying exciting and more applicable.
Best map - Book of Mormon Central and their supplement , Scripture Plus.
thank you! I was looking for something.
Pleased I could help👍🏼

@wendy Larsen I just googled “book of Mormon” map 🤷♀️
bookofmormoncentral.org/blog/church-releases-statement-on-book-of-mormon-geography
Pretty interesting, lots of good info.
I can't believe you said "super rad!" I love it. It's groovy!! Keep it up.
I am SOOO pronouncing it "A moron" from now on. I LOVE the story of Dakota. Thank you for sharing that.
God bless Dakota, I know he is in his hands wherever he is.
And we call each other each other's dongi
what does dongi mean?
@@tayyyellsworth2398 it means the group you began with. The group that started the MTC with me at the same time is dongi.
Ending with “Thats 2 Doctor Peppers’ ? Haha - David - Self Mastery -water is better! No caffeine - no sugar! Using my persuasions as councilled ❤️
The summer in Missouri is hot, humid and full of mosquitos. I still enjoy your Summer of Heroes even if I haven’t been able to do it.
Emily - your statement today reminded me of this quote that I LOVED from @LiveFromSnackTime
"I have a lot to say, maybe you should make some popcorn."

Janice Gardner Heheh, love it! =]
So, as Emily and David were speaking of getting little army men to represent the different groups I wanted to jump into their video and say, "Hey my husband did that exact thing several years ago when he taught gospel doctrine class!" He used magnets to attach them to the board. It was great!
wow
Hi from Ballymoney Northern Ireland im really looking forward to Helaman 💝💝
The prisoners of war is mentioned so many times about his concern for them and willingness to keep them alive and Moroni’s POW were not children or women 54:3, 57:13-17, 32-33, and 36”I trust the souls.. who have been slain have entered into..God”. Any thoughts or insights? These events are recorded for a purpose.
Where can I find that talk by President Nelson to the Youth? Excellent!!
Gini Bradley I also would like to know this! Thanks for asking =]
Gini Bradley I found the link in the very first comment, where the kind gentleman provides the time stamps each week=] www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/broadcasts/worldwide-devotional-for-young-adults/2018/06/hope-of-israel?lang=eng
@@melaniekhan8113 Thank you for the reference. I just watched the entire meeting. Thanks again.
I am sad the summer of heroes is ending. I feel Pahoran really needs to be one. He was such a good example of patience, not taking offense, and empathy towards Moroni who was railing on him and not realizing the whole story.
Jinx again! That’s 2 Dr. Peppers... 🤣
Shiblon was a good kid and all. But he so got the middle-child treatment with Summer of Heroes.
Searching for the promised map. Did you forget or am I missing in action? I'm used to it being the latter 😊

Could you link a map? I would love to do the army men idea with my family.

@@melaniekhan8113 Very cool!
Has a Map of the Book of Mormon been posted somewhere that was being talked about during this lesson? If so, where can I find it?
Book of Mormon Central has some good maps. They aren't meant to say where things took place, but give you an idea of what the land might have looks like on a map. There is also one on the Church website to give an idea of the relation to each other. www.churchofjesuschrist.org/bc/content/shared/content/images/gospel-library/manual/14419/book-mormon-land-map_1941052.pdf

I totally believe the 2000 were delivered because of the righteousness of their parents and that they kept their covenants.
Be careful with this idea, though - there are many valiant, covenant-keeping parents who have children who have rejected the gospel. Often the equation makes no sense.
Amazing video thank you
Thats 2 Dr Peppers.... "all the difference " the sons of HelAman became a great advantage to the Nephites and in the end made all the difference .
I am a new subscriber and appreciate your knowledge. But I just have one question, what does MMLX stand for? :-)
Hi Brenda - MMLX are the Roman numerals for 2060, which is the number of Stripling Warriors.
What talk was that - The words you read from Pres. Nelson
Can you please let us know the talk from President Nelson that you read. Thanks

Sorry I have OCD, so I cannot stop thinking about it so I have to ask, who does the phone number belong to that is at the bottom of the chalkboard? Enjoy the videos, keep them coming. May God Bless you both.
I wondered, too!
I want to know without having to dial the number! But it might just come to that.

I love your videos
Can anyone help with what notes we were supposed to write on the top two thirds of the DMT journal page [shown on right hand side of board in video]? I’ve watched this video twice and cannot come up with anything, as well as reading the scripture references multiple times...
Start at the 26:35 mark in the video. They give two ideas of what to do with that list of adjectives. Also, if you look at my earlier comment with the Time Stamps, you will see the specific verses that are referenced with this list. Hope this helps!
Christopher Patch Thank you so much! I’ve no idea how I missed that!

How do you find the show notes to see what they have on board?
Hi Ellen - there is a Don’t Miss This Study Guide available at Deseret Book. It has the worksheets for each week plus additional space for notes and personal insights. It’s excellent - highly recommended!

I came to read the comments to see if anyone else noticed! Lol
not sure who's phone number is on the chalk board, but you may want to black that out
I was wondering what that was for. My husband told me he’d give me $25 to call it! But I didn’t. Haha!
My donkey ? Or my donghi?
The question is.... were the 2 Dr Peppers given?
Ahh, got it!

Yes, it's the 2060 Stripling Warriors. They introduce it at the 5:50 mark and discuss it several times throughout the lesson.
Janei Bee Yup, ALL the stripling warriors! How awesome! =]
