@@sarcasticmcspastic unfortunately only for older thinkpads, i know :/ No offical affordable docks exist. If they just made this here, with a pcie slot gamers would flock to this. (and by not selling it for a premium that costs as much as the gpu...)
Hi, I've bought a similar dock, the Lenovo ThinkPad 40A2, for mi T540p Thinkpad, but after three months of use I realized that my Thinkpad is overheating. I presume this is due to the left side of the Dockstation blocking the cooling fan outlet. I'm really not sure if it's a problem because of the design of the dockstation or something is wrong with mine. Did happenned something similar to you? If anyone has any comments or recommendations regarding this problem, it would be helpful.
Arghhh. This is so depressing!!! Basically I cannot run sound programs because realtime sound stutters if cpu is throttling. I couldn't find any way to to make it work. Even worse, I have i7-4810mq cpu for max performance, but I cannot tap into this potential because if heating problems
Comment about charger is obvious. Unfortunately I had to chip and saw off as much plastic as i could as well as to drill many holes in the bottom around cpu. I would imagine good design to not only dock your computer but to cool it also so you could run more intense programs (productivity boost when docked). Also I have a suspicion this dock works much better with W series then with T series.
Just picked one of these up for £20 brand new in UK, just wondered, does the power button on the dock (round dot window in on button) light up? I dont think it does but looks like its should because it matches the laptops power on button which does light up green in the centre.
I have the Lenovo Pro Dock 40a1, is my unit broken, because there is a fan built into the left side, where the lock is located, its not running, should it be running? or do I need a driver to activate this ? any guess?
Can i use these docks as a normal docks for other laptops or peripherals(of course, not plugin a Lenovo ThinkPad on the station). It's just that the amount of ports available on these docks are amazing and i can get a refurbish one for like 30-50€ and if i'm not restricted to ThinkPads i can recommend these docks to anyone.
The dock you have is called the "Pro Dock". The "Ultra Dock" looks the same but adds a HDMI and 2nd DisplayPort on the back.

Me using a Lenovo W540 for over a whole year and realising now that it can do this.
I have the Ultra Dock v4A02, and it is the best add-on for my T440p.
Clever bit of kit, well worth the money.

I have the T420 and it's dock.....Love it, although my laptop gets very hot even when not in the dock now :(.
Oh thats a bummer mate.
If you know how I'd recommend changing the thermal compound for the CPU and just giving it a general clean on the inside. It may help.

It shoyld work for that also.
The T430 isn't compatible with this dock, you'll need a type 4337 Mini Dock Series 3 (with USB 3.0).

Make sure you have the charger plugged into the dock and not the computer.
