PMJ had covered Creep w/ this arrangement months before with a different singer. Haley joined PMJ on their European 2015 tour, Haley's first professional tour after Idol.
Days into the tour, Haley asked if she could perform PMJ's Radiohead cover. At that time, Haley had only covered "Habits" w/ PMJ & also sang on PMJ's cover of "All About That Bass" cover on tour.
She performed "Creep" for the first time live in Lyon, France: ruclips.net/video/4J7AGfLN67g/видео.html
From the crowd's reaction, PMJ's Scott Bradlee did something he had never done before, re-record a cover he'd already done:
A week after Haley arrived in Berlin to join PMJ, Scott took their day off in Zurich, Switzerland to re-record "Creep" and "All About That Bass" both included Haley, "Creep" became their most viewed video, "All About That Bass", their second most viewed.
There is a misconception out there that Haley was 'sick' when she recorded Creep w/ PMJ. That is not true, Haley was tired from jet lag and being on the road for a week.
In a recent interview about recording "Creep", Haley said she thought maybe being tired & not 100%, she had to draw more from herself to give the performance she did on "Creep"
Haley has most of the top 10 viewed videos on PMJ's channel, but I suggest you react to her most recent cover w/ PMJ, her first in over five years, a spectacular cover of No Doubt's "Don't Speak"

@@nickforell1 If you'd like to see a 'non' PMJ performance, recently, I had the honor of Haley putting her sound board mix of a 2022 tour performance on one of my videos and posting it to her channel.... a stunning vocal of "I Put a Spell On You". ruclips.net/video/LCWwOtdf728/видео.html
I appreciate your honest reaction. Lots of reaction channels out there who pander for subscribers. I felt you were genuinely surprise/impressed.
FYI Haley's put out four albums, 3 w/ independent songs (My favorite is "Lo-Fi Soul) and one cover album of songs who influenced her parents, even flew them to CA to record the album, she even used the original engineers who recorded the original songs, and on analog tape. Haley's a real deal throwback and a delight to follow. I'm still stunned she used my video :)
My motto, if Haley comes anywhere near your town, you MUST hear that voice live.
ps, The Zombies themselves thanked Haley for her cover of their "Time of the Season" to bring it to a newer generation. A year later, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they even highlighted my video of Haley performing "Time of the Season" on their social media :)

great reaction nick. haley reinhart is one the greatest, most unique vocalist of our time. postmodern jukebox (or pmj) takes current popular songs and completely re-imagines them vintage (1920s to 1960s) in the music itself and style of the performances that actually take you back in time. they have a variety of good vocals but haley especially with postmodern jukebox is incredible. all the other haley/pmj ones are great also: "all about the bass", "habits", "black hole sun", "mad world", "seven nations army", "oops i did it again", "lovefool" and the very recent "don't speak".
i think what is so phenomenal about haley is not just her amazing silk to sandpaper voice but also her character and soul that she puts into the performances. even when she uses very little of her unique vocal acrobatics, her pure raw soft voice is amazing like in the intro of "creep". you see this even more in her solo platinum cover of "can't help falling in love" for the extra gum commercial which is truly stunning and frequently described as what love sounds like here: (ruclips.net/video/_uNpEbt7w_o/видео.html )

Haley is one of my favorites who was on Idol and her singing with PMJ. She's 32 now and AJ is 17. Haley is a much more polished performer and skillful singer. AJ is a naturally gifted prodigy who is just starting to tap into her potential and whose voice is still developing. 😮 Reinhart sounds well rehearsed, while AJ can sing off the cuff and kill it. AJ's airy notes, tonality and bravado... these voice qualities excedes that of Haley's voice for me. IMHO. When AJ gains experience in the performance side watch out!

I am a rock guy so I love here album "What's That Sound" which is an album of covers from late 60s/early 70s. In the rock genre she has covered House of the RIsing Sun (the Animals), Bennie and the Jets (Elton John) and What is and What Should Never Be (Led Zeppelin). Like the river in Germany - Rhine heart. Haley on Idol had a lot of firsts brought to the show. First jazz duet with Casey Abrams using scat (Moanin), first father playing lead guitar on one of her songs, including her falling on her butt. Two country singers placed ahead of her, though she covered LeAnn Rhimes Blue cause she can flat out yodel which was better than anything the other country folk could muster. So check out her wiki, she has done a lot in the last ten years.
As far as this song goes, the arrangement was done by the piano player, Scott Bradlee, and leader of the collaboration known as PostModern Jukebox. Haley was just the featured vocalist. PMJ has hundreds of videos, and Haley has been one of the plethora of singers over the years though arguably the most popular. I don't think she's had classical training, at least not in school but from her mom who sang in a band with her father.

And let's not forget the musicians that back up the singers. All in all, PMJ is fabulous. @HaleysTusk Год назад

@@JeffTokayer In a recent Q&A Haley did in Oregon, it was revealed Idol did a whole segment on Haley for Season 9, went to her hometown, even video'd her family singing, so she was fairly confident she'd make it into the 9th season (especially that her 'lucky number' was nine). That would explain how devastated she was when Simon and Randy rejected her. The 'voices' suggesting she return for Season 10 were the producers contacting her and encouraging her to try again for Season 10. We always wondered why in Season 10 they practically did zero promoting of Haley until late into the season... I think interviewing Haley about doing Lady Gaga's "You and I", the same episode she broke through w/ House of the Rising Sun, so really deep into the season was when they gave her some air time. The reason was, they were supposed to do it for Season 9, but Simon derailed the plans by putting together a season 9 that is most commonly believed to be the Worst in the show's history, because that was Simon's last season before he left Idol to start the Voice. Somewhere in the Idol vaults, there is video of the segment they were going to air of Haley and her family in her hometown for Season 9.
Just more ammunition to make Haley less trusting of the system, then being dropped by Interscope before any ability to promote her debut album.... no wonder she's so adamant about taking her future in her own hands and remaining an independent artist.

Some background on the appearance with the full orchestra...
"Our high-point and finale was filming at the magical Südbahnhotel, the empty but fully functional 1900 Grandhotel outside Vienna ("the last guest checked out 42 years ago...").
From this comes a first indirect glimpse of the documentary ("An Impossible Project"), namely the incredible performance we managed to film of Haley Reinhart performing her own song "Don't Know How To Love You", backed and arranged by Sascha Peres and his Orchestra.
This is as analogue as it gets, 100% live, in fact even unrehearsed. Sascha and Haley met for the first time just a couple of hours before this was recorded (in Südbahn's usually deserted White Ballroom). We shot it on 35mm as part of the documentary.
The music was cut direct to disc, as well as recorded on analogue tape. The evening was hosted by Doc's Supersense and Facebook' Analog Research Lab.
On RUclips, you can see the entire, uncut version of the song. There will be more music from Haley in the film.
I've never seen a performance quite like this. Hope you like it. It's real."
      warm regards,

also what is even more impressive is that this masterpiece was actually completed in one take with a tired voice and all but one of the postmodern jukebox covers are done live with no auto-tune, etc more info in links below:

Her voice is smokey and silky-smooth. It feels like she is putting every atom of her physical body into her delivery and sending her music from a different era. However, if I didn’t know the lyrics I would have no idea what she was saying most of the time. For me, good diction adds that much more to a song.

Emphazising/dropping vowels and consonants for effect is a singing technique: "While consonants are important to make sense of our speech, vowels are what carry the tone and the resonance. If you sustain a long note on any consonant, let’s say /k/ you probably wouldn’t be able to produce a very loud or nicely ringing sound. Now try it with the /a/ vowel! Just relax your face, drop your jaw and say /a/."
The NYT describing Billie Holiday's voice:
"PROBABLY no voice in the history of jazz exerts a deeper fascination than the vulnerable, intimate slur of Billie Holiday, who died 27 years ago at the age of 44. With a vocal range of barely an octave and the timbre of a muted horn, Miss Holiday's singing was far from athletic, but it spanned the emotional range of the universe, communicating joy and pain with an immediacy that seemed at once artless and profoundly sophisticated."

This cover is the best one out there. To me, Haley's voice is a musical instrument. Seven Nation Army is another good one, Haley's last name is pronounced Rhine hart. Haley has a couple of albums, the last one has a song called "Free" on it, is really good.

    • @vidpie
      @vidpie Год назад +1

Haley has released four albums and an LP. "Free" was actually on Haley's debut album, "Listen Up!" That album was followed by "Better," then "What's That Sound? (which was mostly covers of 1960s rock recorded to tape using vintage equipment), and then the self-released "Lo-Fi Soul." That was followed by her "Off the Ground" EP.

I’ve loved Haley ever since she was on American Idol. She didn’t win that season, but she’s considered by many to be the breakout star of the season (and has arguably had a much stronger career than whoever did win). I don’t know if i would call her a “mainstream success”, but she seems to be very happy in the lane she’s in, because she’s a really unique, old soul and has a really loyal following among those that do appreciate her talent.

Hailey is incredible and has other contributions the PMJ that are well worth checking out. For my money, though, Morgan James' cover of "Dream On" with PMJ is the pinnacle. That's taking nothing away from Hailey; she is a once in a lifetime vocalist. So is Morgan James, just with a differing style. Of course you could do yourself a real favor and check out both of them working with PMJ on "All About that Bass". You can't go wrong with either.

    • @vidpie
      @vidpie Год назад +1

@@nickforell1 The story behind "Moanin'. Haley and Casey were going to perform the song, "It Takes Two." Then they switched to "Fever." During a break Ray Chew, the Music Director, begins to play "Moanin'" and Haley starts singing along. He's like, "You know this song?"
Right about then the producers approach and express they think "Fever" might be too racy for the Idol audience. So Haley was like, "We have this ("Moanin'"). Casey had performed it at the end of his audition segment on a melodica, but he didn't know the song had words (they were written after the original release).
At that point on the show, people knew Casey had a jazz background, but they didn't know Haley did. This was a results night duet (done to fill time) so it didn't count in the competition. After they performed it, Haley was sent to the stools as one of the bottom three contestants (based on voting the night before) to await her fate.
