Idol had just lowered their age minimum to 15, so they were incentivized to have one of them to win & be contract controlled, plus Country had the biggest voting block by that time, the finale was a forgone conclusion. @@MatthewTheWanderer in a recent talk at a college, Haley said in Season 9, the season before she made the show and the first time she auditioned, Idol had actually sent a crew to her hometown to film a segment about her & her family, making her think she’d make the live rounds. The number 9, being her lucky number (her birthday is 9/9/1990, she went in front of the judges figuring she’d make season 9.
      Turns out, season 9 was also Simon Cowell’s last season before he left idol to begin The Voice on a competing network, so he began sabotaging idol by letting in weak contestants and eliminating some good ones, including Haley. Season 9 is considered one of Idol’s worst mostly due to Simon’s sabotage. So Haley was screwed even before her Season.
      She did have the fortune of Steven Tyler on the judge’s table, who championed her all the way to the finals when the producers started getting concerned Haley might beat their country singers, by having the judges unfairly critique Haley harsher than her less talented competition.
      If you’re interested, I made a playlist of all of Haley’s idol performances and the judges reaction in 3 1-1/2 hour episodes, search “Haley’s Journey” ✌🏻

    • @StarkRG
      @StarkRG Месяц назад +1

      Makes me think of electronic dance music being done with real instruments. Like Meute, for example, a marching band that does dance music with tuba, trombones, trumpet, sax (at least two pitches), flute, xylophones, a couple of drum kits and a big bass drum usually beat by a dude that always looks like he's having the best time. Most of their music doesn't have vocals, though, so I'm not really expecting them to show up on The Charismatic Voice.

    Love all of Haley's performances on the PMJ clips, finally got around to seeing her live a couple months ago in Philadelphia (she's touring under her own name, believe PMJ also has a separate tour going...) kind of cool to see her in the real world and she delivers. She can wail, Growl, hit high notes, she’s theatrical, and yeah, dare I say, she's easy on the eyes. I would also call her a “pro” hardest working woman in show biz type stuff, you get your money's worth, just really wants to entertain you. I was astonished when she and her powerhouse band really rocked out on Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, very versatile. Great show, glad I went. Haley can sing circles around most pop singers, if not all of them, she's got range, ability, and persona when singing and makes it look and sound easy (for her, for the rest of us mortals this is NOT easy).
    But for me it is her playfulness that stands above all that, she is having fun, lots of fun doing the thing she loves most, and that reflects in her songs each and every time.

Another vocal performance which these PMJ arrangements remind me of is from the late guitarist Jeff Beck featuring Imelda May "Remember (Walking In The Sand)". I remember Lady Gaga when she was 'mentoring" the contestants on American Idol, she gave Haley the idea to inhale like she does. Also she does a great job at sounding like a jazz coronet.

    • @vidpie
      @vidpie Месяц назад

      The song was "I Who Have Nothing." Haley runs through it. Lady Gaga turns to Jimmy Iovine, "It's perfect." He replies, "She's good. Gaga then faces Haley and says, "It's amazing." They then cut to Gaga talking to the camera about Haley: "She's so good at singing, that I think the challenge for her is the drama... putting her mind and her heart into it, really telling that story." They then cut back to the coaching segment and Gaga asks Haley, "How would you feel about getting a little psycho?" She then coaches Haley, "Before you do that 'I love you,' take a breath. She then demonstrates and elaborates, "Give it drama. A little Edith Pilath. A little, 'I'm crazy and a laugh away from a tear.'"
      I thought Gaga was very insightful and gave her great advice.
      What added to the drama of the actual performance was real drama between Randy Jackson and Haley when he repeated his criticism in a shout over Steven Tyler who had told her to not listen to them (Randy/JLo) because they were "both wrong." The show then called the four contestants back out so Randy Jackson could declare that the other three contestants won the first round. The camera then zoomed in on Haley as they went to commercial break. She turned away so they couldn't see her tears. After the break she was the first to perform.

    My god, this is amazing. This is what I absolutely love about this channel. The exposure to new music that I would otherwise never hear or find. Wow just Wow. What a set of pipes! Thank you so much.

    Haley was always too good for American Idol. I'm glad she found success on PMJ.

    So excited to see this performance getting some love, because this and Lovefool are my favorite PMJ songs with Haley singing (after Creep, of course). I'm not as big a fan of their collab on Seven Nation Army as most people, but Don't Speak is pretty great. You really can't go wrong, if Haley's singing.

    Still one of the all time greats waits for a turn on your channel: Paul McCartney. I think your community would really enjoy the song "Beware My Love" from the live album "Wings Over America".

    Good to hear that the charismatic voice and the fairy voice mother are talking. I wouldn't mind some collab.
    And I agree. This is better than the original. This is the fun 1920s Berlin cabaret Version. This is some Friedrichstadtpalast stuff...

    If you haven't already seen it, pmj and Morgan James covered Barbie Girl. Similar vibe, different style, lots of fun. Make a great follow up vid!

    I have been HOPING you'd react to Haley Reinhart!! Shes incredible! I remember watching her on American Idol and rooting for her the whole time, she did some amazing performances on there. The jazz direction shes gone in since then is so fantastic.

    still, with the hopes of death metal becoming the world's preeminent style of music fading ever farther, great song, great vid, cheers!

    She is truly an amazing vocalist, I've been listening to off and on for years. She has a great vid with PMJ and Puddles. Anyway, I do have a slight issue with her though. She has so many vocal tricks and bells and whistles, but she puts them ALL in EVERY song she does. It almost lessens the effect when it's thrown in your face constantly. She is young and has so much talent, it's hard to fault her for wanting to show off while she can. Her parents are famous musicians, so she's had the benefit of hanging with great musicians all her life. It definitely rubbed off, in a good way.
