You're right! The C430s are a great looking set of locos, and they look great in the RI paint scheme. Also, the weathering on the cement cars is perfect. Thanks for the video.
WOW. Impressive and great view. This is an outstanding layout you have. The trains are great too. Excellent ALCO and weathering. But hey! I have a "thing" for ALCO and MLW :)
Another great video. It was nice seeing the "what if things had been different" Alco C430's in the Rock Island paint scheme. It is always enjoyable to see trains running on your amazing layout.-Tom
Another great video. ALCO produced over 75,000 steam locomotives and was only outdone by Baldwin Locomotive. But just like Kodak in recent years, ALCO did not adapt to Dieselization and fell way behind EMC/EMD. Maybe you clear something up. It is also my understanding that ALCO and Baldwin did not want to use the AAR MU cable jumpers or hose arrangement. That’s why, in the 1940’s and 1950’s, most of the time passenger trains were either all EMD or ALCO. They were later fitted with AAR MU cabling by the individual railroads mechanical departments. In the case of the Missouri Pacific Railroad, they rebuilt the ALCOs with EMD prime movers, electronics, switches and controls to be equivalent to GP-7s.
I don't have anything to offer regarding the ALCO and Baldwin AAR MU cable issue as I'm not familiar with any of the specifics. I know that, like the Missouri Pacific, the Rock Island repowered a number of ALCOs with EMD prime movers as well. Thanks so much for watching the video and I appreciate your comments. Mike
Great video, as usual. I have to agree with Lehigh River, they would look sharp in blue/white. Even the red/yellow paint scheme would set them off. Was wondering if you could make another video on switching operations. Getting a train assembled or broken up. Thanks
I appreciate you watching and commenting, Todd. I'll keep your recommendation in mind about a future video showing switching operations. I did shoot a video of a local freight being made up in the yard and then switching cars on line ........ here is the link to that video: ruclips.net/video/zLk7w4ygeXI/видео.html Thank you for your interest! Mike
Well if they had shown up on the property pretty sure my grandfather would have had a few beads of weld on them. He would have taken the work too spent more time laid off than working. Great video as always
Nice Engines Mike!! Conrail had inherited a few of those from the Reading. I painted 2 C44-9s for Conrail even though they only had 8-40CWs from GE and was split up between NS and CSX before they could buy any!!! Hey it's my Division of Conrail so why not? You can say RI bought them from another Rail Road!! 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
I agree with you ...... you can always create justification for straying from railroad reality. Thank you for your comments and for watching the video. Mike
Mike, That was a very cool what if video and once again the detail and weathering on the equipment was second to none. I am by no means nitpicking, but having seen photos of some of the lashups that the Rock ran out of Blue Island, I think I might have dared to try an C-430/C-415/C-430 lash up! Keep up the great work, this is one of the best done layouts out there and I always enjoy the videos.
Hi David - I greatly appreciate your nice comments. I don't own a C415, but if I did, I agree that sandwiching it between two C430s would make an interesting lashup. Thanks for watching! Mike
I bought the C430 as-is a few years ago. It is a Bowser model that was painted by the manufacturer. I have no idea if this model is available; however, you can do a search and check. Thank you for watching. Mike
If we can't have fun, why do this? The RI almost had C430's for real. At the time of the C430 order, UP was RI's merger suitor and equipment financier of choice. Having unsuccessfully tried centuries already, UP didn't want these things ending up in their fleet upon merger, so UP declined the deal. Thus the 1970 GP40 order...

Hi Roger - I appreciate your comment about the weathering on the cement hoppers. Thanks for watching and commenting! Mike
Beautiful Layout, Plain Genius to have the camera facing the C430's ! :)
I very much appreciate your nice comments. Thank you! Mike

Hi Tom - I appreciate you watching the video of the Alco C430's which was a fun video to shoot. As always, thank you! Mike
I agree those alcos look sharp in the rock scheme, I bet an alco in blue and white would be quite sharp as well. Thanks for sharing, awesome units!

beautiful!!!!
Thank you very much! Mike
@@rimodeler7963 you're very welcome.
The Rock is one of my favorite because I also was born in illinois
Nice vid Mike. C430s are a rare model no matter who employed them.
Thank you for taking the time to watch the video and I appreciate your comments. Mike

Good stuff as always! A bit too modern for my era but they look great, thanks for making a vid on them.
Hi Johann - Thank you for your comments! Mike
I wish the RI would have bought more Alcos , Awesome !
I agree, the Alcos were a great locomotive to listen to and to watch the black exhaust. Thanks for watching. Mike
Wow! Did you paint these yourself? If so, great work! If not, where can I find a C430 in that scheme?
I bought the C430 as-is a few years ago. It is a Bowser model that was painted by the manufacturer. I have no idea if this model is available; however, you can do a search and check. Thank you for watching. Mike
Were the engines custom painted? They look pretty believable to me! 🤗
Hi David - The locomotives are Bowser models and were painted by the manufacturer, Thank you for watching and commenting. Mike
@@rimodeler7963 Thankyou Mike.. always luv the sound of Alcos.. 🤗

Actually, the layout is located on the second floor of our home 😊 . Thank you for watching. Mike
My mistake, regardless of where it is, that’s a mighty fine layout. Thanks for sharing!👍
Nice!
Thanks, Gabriel! Mike
Nice. Why not indulge in a “what if...”?

Hi Tom - Thank you for the additional background information. Mike
😊
Thank you for watching! Mike
What about a layout tour first. Just watching a train running around is not nearly as interesting as paying attention to details.
There are 80+ videos on my RUclips channel and here is a link to a video tour of the layout: ruclips.net/video/Dnly6s5rbbM/видео.html Mike
