Elton John has always possessed the ability to deliver a superb performance without the aid of backing tracks, gospel choirs, a large orchestra or Autotune. Here he is with a piano, nothing more. Simply outstanding!
Right? It feels like these days more time is spent on rehearsing the choreography and lights and less on practicing the music, where the real heart is.
Totally live - just Elton and a piano - exactly how he would sound in your den. Young people probably have no idea how good he really was. The vocals are deceptively difficult.
Yep Lisa. And he did it so seemingly naturally with each song he wrote. Remarkable combination of songwriting ability, vocal talent, and genius on the keyboard. Combine that with Bernie's lyrics....magic.
The Tiny Dancer is an amalgam of the free spirited flower children women on Sunset Boulevard in the early 70s. Bernie and Elton said as much when asked on camera.
Flawless for sure, I'm 57 yrs old, grew up with Elton, Van Morrison, Stones, Aerosmith, Allman Bros, Skynyrd, and on and on during the seventies. They were real musicians making real music--all fucking flawless with no studio machines to make them sound good!
Total genius.. there's a post of him and Benny in a room well he's working out the music and how the song should be arranged it took less than a hour for him to right the song that changed our lives!!!.♥️🇬🇧
I remember discovering Elton John's music in my sister's album collection when I was about 9 years old...This song brings me back to the magic of going from Disney music to Rock-n-Roll. You can't imagine the thrill it was when he later produced music for Lion King "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" all those years later. I am proud that as a little girl I could recognize the talent of this man. I still enjoy his music today.
Just love this song. Loved it since it first came out. I am 58 be 59 in June. Elton was and is the Best. He does not need a band. Just him and his piano.
He sure was handsome when he was young, and with his fantastic voice he is one of the best ever, and piano playing !!! thank you for the beautiful words Bernie. The best years of my life were growing up with Elton in the 70's. He still puts on an amazing show. He is a living legend.
One of Elton Johns greatest songs, in fact the whole album is still one of my favorites! As great as the Yellow Brick Road album is, this album is just pure and raw. If you haven't listened to the whole thing, give yourself a treat.
I love the early tapes of Elton as he was beginning to sing for the masses. (Especially the BBC recordings). His voice is pitch perfect- at its best and I think the young Elton in these tapes is disarminly charming!
This is one of my favorites songs of Elton... I have seen him many times in concert and although he is not that young man in this video anymore he still can deliver.. This song was written by Bernie about his GF who worked for the band.. Elton wanted to make it extra special and he did just that.. Love Elton!!!
Saw him in Vegas last September shortly from returning from Afghanistan. Not sure what came over me, but from the first note played until the last, the tears were flowing. Most amazing show I've ever seen.
After all these years...this is one of my all time favorite songs. I was a young girl, not even a teenager when I first fell in love with this song and Elton John's music. Love it just as much today. It is rare that you find music that stands the test of time like his has. Truly one of the great ones....
One of the most precious Elton videos on RUclips!! Such a beautiful rendition of this classic song - and at the peak of the time it was a hit! Wonderful performance! Love you, Elton!
If you are talking about his piano skills, yeah, there are a lot of people more skilled than him, but he is one big singer, and he is still alive, the guy is an breathing legend
Thegamercat he has a good feel and sense of syncopation/rhythm. for a person known as a singer his piano playing is exellent. not many pop singers are that good
In 1971 I was 15, I escaped from "the place" (not prison) with my girlfriend Cathy, traveled across country on Greyhound, train, hitchhike, no money, wound up in Missouri on a farm, a three month adventure. Tiny Dancer was the soundtrack for that entire journey.
Everyone loves to say how we don't make good music these days. This can be said for every generation. You cannot compare one era to another. Every era had something to offer - amazing, life changing, epic music. Everyone and every generation has made a contribution. Music continues to evolve throughout the ages. With that being said, for me - Elton is an artist and this is a song that will forever move my soul. Its a fine piece, and to me, it is among the best the human race has produced.
I had an incounter with this lovely man and it was in the dark days he's back now isn't he! and it had to be because you can't stop that kind of life force.
He was all of 24 years old here. How amazing is this guy?!!! How many 24 year old "musicians" today have the talent to have a career as long as his? I'm so glad I grew up in this era. To experience it first hand was amazing....
I remember when he was a "New Artist". Damn! I am "that" old! Loved Elton then...love him still! I was in 8th grade. Now I'm 57, still loving and singing this song often. Yea Elton!
He seems to always be present when he is needed. He did a benefit tv show for the covid 19 crisis this year. God bless Sir Elton John. I know I grew up listening to him. A true genius.

Just a man and his piano. No auto tune, no studio "magic". Simple yet beautiful.
Just sounds authentic and organic.
The way song is supposed to be sung.

...and 50 years old.....!
@@peterbornmann9184 He was born in 1947, so he was not 50 at this point, he was 24.
@@Rob_Kates you are right, but what i mean is , that the Song is now 50 years old !
Such expressive piano, poetic lyrics, his emotion……. “Seamstress for the band….” Now that is a lyric…
Man, do I miss the 70's and 80's!! Today's music is just.... not the same.
Elton John has always possessed the ability to deliver a superb performance without the aid of backing tracks, gospel choirs, a large orchestra or Autotune. Here he is with a piano, nothing more. Simply outstanding!
The song that represents a time when songs were actually about something.
I'm 58 and I tell my 16 year old daughter all the time how I grew up in the greatest musical era ever. She's just starting to catch on. Thank God
Easily one of the greatest writers and performers in the last 100 years or so
Absolutely undeniable
Give credit to his lyricist Bernie Taupin, they are a great team.
He didn't write a lot of his songs boss
@@Pulse2AM definitely wrote this comment before I knew who Bernie was, but yup you're totally right haha
Bernie Taupin wrote the Lyrics and some of the music. Elton was a great performer, but it was a team effort all the way.
Damn that's the best live performance I've ever heard
Damn right
Right? It feels like these days more time is spent on rehearsing the choreography and lights and less on practicing the music, where the real heart is.
Not me Pink Floyd "careful with that axe Eugene" from brighton 1972 is way better than this doppelgänger.
Black by Pearl Jam beats it by just a little
Unbelievable, isn't it!
After 40+ years this song refuses to get old.
I was in 8th grade. Now I'm 57, still loving and singing this song often. Yea Elton!
I turned 58 today 24/02/17
i was 25 years too late
I am currently 24, I believe the age of Elton in this video. I love his music even though my generation is so different.
@@DannyOvox3Sir Elton John was 23 years old in 1971 in this video
Yes! I am 60 hello hello sister!
I'm young now, I'll be old tomorrow. But this song is ageless.

Agree totally. This song is a bitch to sing. He makes it look easy. While accompanying himself. On live TV. Without “Autotune”.
my Ex husband played this for me when we dated. love the song and still love him
My dad dedicated and sang this song to me at my wedding. Love you dad!
that is they sweetest thing! congratulations!!
Lmao.this song is about a prostitute

blacktwofight11 no it's not. its about Bernie's girlfriend at the time

Fucking flawless. This is arguably the best live performance I've ever seen, from any artist.
if it was 'live', being Top Of The Pops it was most likely not. Still excellent though

I'm on my way
Driving at ninety down those country lanes
Singing to "Tiny Dancer"

Almost Famous !Brought me in here, now i realize how powerful this song is! Wonderful!
1971 I got my draft notice for Vietnam and Elton John was singing this song on the radio. He's one of the guys who got me through that time.

Matthew At Berklee his piano skills are considered defining for rock piano. Elton essentially wrote the 'book' on rock piano.
