When I was about 6-7 years old this song was played on the radio and tv in Greece. It sounded as an amazing bitter sweet melody to my ears without of knowledge of English language. I think that it was the choice for the last song to play Elton John to close his career on the stage . Its one of the best ever pop ballads.
I was at the age of 14 back in 2000, living in a one-horse-town in my home country, Brazil. One night, I was watching tv and, during the break of the sopa opera, an advert for a collection of 1970's music flashed on the screen. I couldn't care less about that old people's music. I was a teenager who hadn't even been around until 1986. Only, one of those songs caught my ears. I looked at the screen and saw a bespectacled, strange looking fellow. His glasses were huge! His voice got into my years and I felt something so good inside. I waited for the commercial to appear on the screen again, so that I could discover who sang that song and its title. I had to read it quickly! Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John. Cut the long story short, I asked my mom where Elton John's vinyl, which she'd bought to me several months prior was. I hadn't given it too much thought because it didn't have The Lion King songs on it. I looked for that LP for a few days until I finally found it on a sunny Saturday afternoon. I rushed to the record player, eager to listen to the song whose chorus had enchanted me from the word go. I will never forget the moment I heard Elton getting to "The bluuues..." and the band heavenly singing "Aaaaaaa", while the drums sound sort of ripped my heart. I felt like being taken to another dimension. Seriously! As they say, the rest is history. I've been a die-hard fan since then.
That is one of the best true stories I ever heard coming from a music lover. I've seen Sir Elton 3 times- he's my Sister's favorite performer. 😊❤ Love, from N.Y.S.

This song was playing when I found out my mom was dying. I didn't get home in time to see her before she left us. I still can't hear this song without breaking down
Elton John would not be who he is today without Bernie Taupin, the incredibly gifted songwriter who penned most of the lyrics of his songs. Elton's moving, complex, beautiful compositions and fantastic showmanship made for some glorious music. I was at this concert and it changed me. I will never forget it.
I disagree, not because Taupin isn't a great lyricist, he is. The first thing that gets your attention in a song is not the lyrics, but the melody, the tune. If it's a great melodic and rhythmical sound, it's catchy and sticks in your mind, then you will hum that tune all day and then maybe dig deeper into the words of the song. Just my opinion.
@@aviatorpianokraft you also need to recognize the people that were involved in the production, mixing, arrangement, etc. A great player or great singer is simply just that but without Bernie and the other crazy talented people that worked with Elton we would not have the personification of beauty that some of his biggest hits present. People focus on the star only to forget that it’s the entirety of the night sky that makes it beautiful. 👍
@@aviatorpianokraft Yeah...the first thing you may see is the beautiful ass or eyes of a girl...but in the end what you will love is her brain. So...melody is part of it but the lyrics are what make a song...a real piece of art, rarely the melody only.
This particular video is from a TV show that obviously had a very small audience and he appears to be lip syncing, because he never moves away from the microphone like that when he's singing live. Plus the sound is way too full/produced to be live. I also know that there isn't a serious Elton fan alive that doesn't know how much he credits Bernie for his success. You make it sound like he's a glory seeker or something. That said, I also agree with Roger Hawkins above.

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" by Elton John masterfully conveys the disillusionment with the trappings of fame, offering a nuanced reflection on the pursuit of personal authenticity over material success. Its sophisticated arrangement and evocative lyrics create a profound sense of introspection, resonating with listeners on both an emotional and intellectual level.
I'm living in the best times of my life . Beatles movie, Queen Movie and Elton movie all in the past 2 years. With a resurgence of their music in popular culture. I truly feel like I am floating off the ground like everyone did in that scene in Rocket Man. This music is the only Anti Depressants I'll ever need. I don't even have words to describe how I feel. my favorite song by Elton John of all time!! I remember the first time I heard this, I was given the greatest hits cd, from my parents for my birthday, back high school, how so I loved that album, the moment I got it... played it, and when this song came on, it hit a certain chord with me, that I started crying, cause the way he plays the piano, and his voice while singing, man, I just lost it. was truly one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. still is now, so many years later, and always this song has remained my favorite of his, all throughout this time. such utter, pure beauty and passion.
This song reminded me when I was young, my dad would take us to the drive in near Lake Odessa, MI. My brother and I would play in the playground till the movie started. I pretended that I was in a spacecraft. I’ll be eating bucket of KFC (remember?) with some Coca Cola. What a memory….. oh, the other song was Bennie and the Jets………..

Thank God for these angels.
Elton John is a talent straight from God!
One of the most meaningful songs ever recorded. Kudos to you SIR ELTON JOHN !
This album was so important in my youth. I could never get enough of his music, i had buckteeth and just felt awkward. But listening to Elton changed everythig. Being different. feeling awkward became cool. I wore it with pride
This song is in the top 20 of the most beautiful songs in history
I'm bringing mom back to life with this aged well music, like the finest of wines❤
What a great comment, like Mom as you say Memories are never erased.
When are you gonna come down?
When are you going to land?
I should have stayed on the farm
I should have listened to my old man
You know you can't hold me forever
I didn't sign up with you
I'm not a present for your friends to open
This boy's too young to be singing, the blues
So goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can't plant me in your penthouse
I'm going back to my plough
Back to the howling old owl in the woods
Hunting the horny back toad
Oh I've finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road
What do you think you'll do then?
I bet that'll shoot down your plane
It'll take you a couple of vodka and tonics
To set you on your feet again
Maybe you'll get a replacement
There's plenty like me to be found
Mongrels who ain't got a penny
Sniffing for tidbits like you on the ground
So goodbye yellow brick road
Where the dogs of society howl
You can't plant me in your penthouse
I'm going back to my plough
Back to the howling old owl in the woods
Hunting the horny back toad
Oh I've finally decided my future lies
Beyond the yellow brick road
Who comes up with lyrics like that? Bernie pen through Eltons lips. The stuff legends are made of.
Thanks
Gracias por la letra. Asi puedo cantar, mal pero igual
You are amazing.
Thanks for putting the lyrics, I bet it took time huh?
I'm here to remind everyone for a good vibes: we still have him.
Yesss he’s literally still standing
Thank you for this
So 😥😔 I was so young!! When I lost my daughter 💔😢 and she loved this music 🎶🎵she had no choice. I played this all of the time. And I took her to all of my concerts here in Florida in the late 80s and 90s. Never was able to see Elton unfortunately until after she was older and didn't care. I miss that girl so much it kills me

My Faith is super strong, and I've had alot of loss in my lifetime.

That might be the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard.
Elton, master musician, songwriter, and vocalist
my favorite song by Elton John of all time!!
Phenomenal movie now I can’t stop watching Elton John stuff! Lol

Wow.! Elton John spoke to you! Really!
His songs is pure poetry with a lot of emphasis....the best master piece ever
Elton's music is not about notes but encapsulating moments, someone that is right on top of the wave, a gift.
Truly one of the best rock and roll songs ever written! Thank you, Bernie Taupin!! And especially Thank You Elton!!!

DUDE!! YOUR ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. ! one of the best rock in roll songs ever written!
Benny and the Jets was excellent ... as was Candle in the Wind.
This was playing in my head all day, I had to find it when I got home, this haunting harmony was all I could remember
I remember this song when I was in college year 1974, now I’m 63 yrs old and I felt like it’s only last year
I’m 18 in college and this is one of my favorite songs, it’s so cool how 2 different generations can enjoy the same thing
Im 16 and this is among my favourite songa
Time really flies
I was in my senior year of high school and I remember Yellow Brick Road frequently playing on the car radio! Sweet memories of days gone by...
A good melody has that ability to mask weird (though meaningful) lyrics. Awesome song.
