Great video. I've got the EF 85mm f1.4 (+EOS R6) and cannot be happier with the photos taken with it. RF 85mm f1.2 is a bit better but I still can't justify replacement of my EF 85 1.4 as I mainly use it taking photos of my two daughters. By the way your daughter has a great smile.

My bias is towards the f1.4 is. Why, well portraits can be so sharp that people don't like seeing their wrinkles, veins and pores. Also the image stabilization holding at 1/2 looked great and therefore reducing ISO in low light is attractive to reduce noise and graininess . You said the AF speed on the two lenses is comparable, I don't shoot sports and since I also own a Sony A9 that can shoot electronic at 1/30000 sec. I would grab it for such subjects. would like to see a comparison of canon EF 85mm F1.4 vs the new RF 85mm F2! Im torn in between these 2 as the 85mm 1.2 is out of my price range. should i spend the extra money for the EF 1.4 or go for the new RF f2.0? would like your thoughts on this
Thank you Matthew! I have a had few others ask for a review of the RF 85 f/2. Unfortunately, I don't own a copy of it, so I will have to find another way to get a copy of it! Looks to be a great lens though! If you want macro and don't like adapters, I would go with the RF f/2. If you like extra blurry backgrounds, go with the EF 1.4. Hope that helps!
First off, those wedding shots in the beginning are magical! I hope you got paid really well :) Secondly, thanks for this review, super useful! I just got the RF 85 but my R5 is at the workshop right now. This video got me really eager to try it out. And finally, that super awesome little girl you took these amazing photos of has got to be the most charming 'subject' ever! :D Happy new year!
You're the best! Thank you SO much for the thoughtful and kind review!! Hope you have gotten your R5 back and are making all kinds of beautiful photos with the 85 1.2! All the best!
The sharpness while moving is absolutely incredible. Are you able to achieve something similar with the EF 85 1.4? This is much more in budget for me but I take a lot of animal photography and movement is a big factor in my photography, but I’m still looking for the gorgeous bokeh
Love the EF 85 1.4. Sadly the AF couldn't keep up like the RF 1.2 which is one of the reasons I sold it. That said, I loved the look of the photos the 1.4 had. Kind of miss it actually.
Just used natural light! I think I was using the R5 with the 15-35 for the opening shot... other than that just iMovie :) Sorry I know thats not a lot of help! Video is not my expertise!
incredible nice shots. very detailed and helpful analysis. I am still waiting for my R5 body which hopefully will arrive next week. You convinced me to test this lens at least !!!! best regards from Germany
Thank you so much!! I owe the color accuracy to my wife who does my editing for me! Wish I could send the preset but its discontinued and we modified it :( All the best!!
Are you using continuous AF and Servo AF during live-view shooting? What about video? (I have an R5C so video is different) Awesome review and makes me want to buy this lens. (I have the RF 50 f/1.2)
Hi Shane! Just saw your video and I wanted to say how amazingly positive you come across, it seems natural and easy for you, though not for many. Also your work looks stunning and the video was very informative. Many thanks for posting this. I have of course subscribed and liked. Dan
Thank you so much Daniel! That truly means so much. My joy comes from Jesus! He has made all the difference in my life! Really appreciate you following along! All the best in your photo adventures!
@@ShaneLongPhotography You are welcome. Your joy certainly shines through in your video. I ordered this lens after seeing your video. Take care and keep on shining.
Thanks for the extremely detailed review of this lens. I'm wondering how the Sigma 84 1.4 art lens will work on the R5. I just ordered and there's such a long wait. Can't find any reviews of the R5 and Sigma 85 1.4 art EF version.
I am sure it does great! I owned the Sigma 85 1.4 Art at one point, and it was a terrific lens. Having the IBIS of the R5 would be fantastic with that lens. I think the only con would be the size with the needed adapter. But for the price, that lens is amazing.
Just be aware that some features may be missing when using an EF lens and that many RF third party lenses are actually still just an EF lens with an RF mount. Not to forget other cons like updates requiring an extra adapter, and other things. There are more differences between first and third party lenses which people should be aware of but I guess most of them are already discussed in the relevant forums
Hi Shane. I know it’s not really your area, but I photograph fast moving dog sports sometimes and do you think the older 85mm f 1.4L on the canon R6 with the eye detection would be the better choice for autofocus speed alone? Or do you think if I have the extra money, the RF lens autofocus would be better or similar? I am trying to save money. I used to use the older 85mm f 1.2 and I know both lenses are an upgrade to that, but I’m curious how the speed compares? Thanks!
Hello Gary! How fun to photograph fast moving dogs! Great question! Hmmm. Though I no longer have the EF 85 1.4, when I did have it the AF speed seemed quite similar, though at times it didn't feel quite at accurate when adapted as the RF 85 1.2 . And that isn't from a technical lab test, that was just my experience. I think with the extra contact points Canon just has these new lenses really focusing fast. But that also could have just been that the RF is a little bit sharper. The RF lenses are really fast focusing, but they also cost more... Not sure if that helps. Kind of also depends on how much you use the lens. Honestly, there are times where I wonder if I should just downgrade and get the RF 85 f/2 because I use the 50mm focal length in my work so much. All the best!
@@ShaneLongPhotography thanks Shane! I don’t make a big living off of the dog sports, though I used to love my old 85mm f 1.2 EF lens. The look was out of this world, despite the terrible autofocus. I don’t think I can justify the cost at this time for the RF 85 1.2. Do you think that extra stop makes a huge background blur difference for the dogs? I guess it depends how clean my background is also. I’ll have to look at your video again to see. Thanks man
I don't think the extra stop would make any difference when photographing the dogs. 1.4 makes plenty of background blur. I would try the EF 85 first and if you are disappointed, return it and save up!
Shane, great videos man. I just started following you few days ago and have been watching your very informative videos. I've ordered R5 and now it's waiting game. Can't wait honently. I'll be using my EF lenses with EF to RF Adapter. Then eventually transition into RF lenses. Keep the great videos coming, great job man.
Thanks so much Jamshed! Glad the videos have been helpful! You are going to LOVE the R5. It is a joy to shoot with. Your EF lenses will work great with the adapters. Have fun!!!
@@patlezinc Oh, yeah, the r5 wins obviously. But I'm curioys for the comparsion of the af tracking(eye+face+etc.) between the R and R5/R6 since the price is a huge difference. I'm looking to upgrade from my 6D, not sure if I go with the R + a lens or R6 body only
Vinicius Vieira lets wait some direct comparison. On my side, I did not trust R for fast action tracking. With the R5, which is 2 or 3 times faster, I am very confident ;)
thanks for an open look at the RF85 to the EF85 . there is one point that people forget if you have a mixed lens set up EF and RF this gave me problems when changing lenses in the field going back and forth just to 2 lenses is ok as I just kept the adaptor on the EF , but going through 3 lens or more is a pain as I went from EF to RF and then EF but the adaptor was still on the other EF. was looking at getting some more adaptors as that would be the cheapest option, but thought Native would work better so saving up. first on the list RF28-70 F2 :) the RF85 F1.2 is on the list but just a little down it
You are spot on! I ran into the same problem. Having all EF lenses is great, or having all RF lenses, but having a mix can be really frustrating. I started with the EF but quickly moved over to the RF lenses as I got tired of the adapters as the quality is so much higher with the RF lenses. Great point!
Really appreciate this. Well done! Maybe I missed it, but did you compare the stabilization of the RF (with only IBIS) to the EF (with combined lens IS and IBIS)?
Thanks Paul! Later in the video I go over it. I don't do a direct comparison, but I show the shutter speeds I was able to take with the RF version. I was able to take hand held photos at 1/2 second exposures. I wasn't able to get as good of results with the EF version with the IS and the IBIS.
Is the RF 85 macro a better choice than the EF 85 1.4 or even the EF 85 1.2? I'm just starting into photography, for now, I can't see myself spending all that money on the new RF 85 1.2... Thank you.
If you are just starting out, I would get the RF 85 1.8 macro. It will give you great background blur and the bonus of macro. 85mm is great for portraits! That will allow you to build a bigger lens kit. All the best!
Amazing content ! What is you favourite lens or tinity lens setup for wedding photography ? I currently have 2 r6 mk2 and ef 35 1.4 II and 85 f1.4 is , just sold the 70-200 2.8 2.8 III for the rf , and also sold the 16-35 f4 is for 14-35 instead , so i don t know if to keep the 35 and 85 or sell it and what to buy instead :D thank you
Oh man those are great lenses! Truthfully I think I would just stick with those lenses. They are amazing and I kind of miss the look they produce. I use the RF 35 1.8, RF 50 1.2, and RF 85 1.2 most at weddings. Happy shooting!
love love love your posts XXXXXX But after following you I have now to date spent £15,000 + on the EOS R5 accessories and various lenses. Please stop smiling in your videos as it is so contagious.
Great video.. got me thinking about this RF 85 f1.2 again. Currently I am using R5 with RF 15-35, RF 35 f1.8, RF 50 f1.2 and RF 70-200 f2.8. I shoot mostly indoor gymnastics and portraits. Have been wondering what’s the next lens i should get, the RF 85 f1.2 or the RF24-70?
Hello! You have a great kit going! Tough call on which to get next... With the lenses you already own, you basically have the 24-70 focal length covered, so the 85 might not be a bad choice. Especially if you do portraits!
@@ShaneLongPhotography what do you think about the RF 28-70 f2 lens that everybody is talking about? They say it’s the best lens for weddings because of the f2 Aperture for a Zoom lens and it shoots like a prime so it’s more versatile. Would you consider doing a video for that lens?
Good question! The 85 1.4 is a great lens! If you are happy with it, keep going! For me swapping lenses all day at weddings with some with adapters and some without, it got to be a mess, so I made the switch to virtually all RF glass now. Hope that helps!
Useful video thanks, I just purchased the R5. I only shoot occasional portraits and can't really justify paying premium on the RF 1.2, how useable would you say the EF 1.4 version is wide open? is it really that soft? I purchased the Samyang RF 85mm 1.4, but it was really dissapointing, so It got sent back. Cheers
The EF 85 1.4 is 100% useful wide open! I highly recommend it. The RF is perfect wide open but the EF is still fantastic. You can view review of that lens here: ruclips.net/video/wKofvJNDYzs/видео.html
Hello Antoine! This is not the DS version. The DS version has slightly smaller bokeh as it has an extra coding that causes the edges of the bokeh circles to fade out. The idea is even more smooth background blur. But I actually prefer the look of the regular version, and it is "cheaper" ;)
@@ShaneLongPhotography thanks for your answer ! great review by the way ! would you consider the 28-70 F2.0, the only inconvenience is that it's big and heavy but not that much more compared to the 85
My friend has it and loves it! He also bought the 85 1.2 to have portraits with a little more pop. I think the size of the 28-70 would be the only con. It is an incredible lens!
Great question! Really depends on what you are shooting! They all have very different purposes. The 85 is for portraits, headshots, low light situations. I wouldn't say any of those lenses are a direct replacement for the 85. My wedding kit is the 15-35, 35 1.8, 50 1.2, 85 1.2, EF 135. But everyone shoots differently! If I were you, I would first look at adding the RF 50mm 1.2.
I can't speak for him but I'm from MN and work in Florida in the winter. There isn't as much photography jobs here during the winter as I would like. Next year I'll be relocating myself to southwest Florida full time.
Exactly what KTWilliams said! Our wedding season in Minnesota lasts from late May till October. Florida is the opposite. So it avoid the cold winters and still do some shoots, we like to spend time down in Florida in the winter!
Don’t forget there is also the DS version which also has the benefit of „loosing“ a bit light, which can actually be a positive if you are shooting at daylight wide open
Good question! Both will be great lenses. If you want larger bokeh go with the 1.4. If you don't want to mess with adapters and also want some macro ability, go with the f2. Hope that helps!
@@ShaneLongPhotography Hi shane. I have a similar question. I have canon R6. Am planning to buy the EF 85mm F1.4 as the RF is way too expensive for me. What are the main things that I would lose if choose EF over RF? (Like AF, IBIS, bokeh quality)
You will love the EF version! Though the bokeh isn't as big, it is still very big! And the AF is very fast, and it has stabilization which most 85mm lenses don't. You will love it!
Great question. For me no. I like that the non DS version has larger bokeh and that it lets in more light. But others will like the more smooth rendering of the bokeh! Total preference.
@@ShaneLongPhotography With a photographer as good as you are, I'd love to see a comparison in real world imagery as you did here. Really wonderful images, and you look great as well in the first images tests for bokeh.
That would be a great comparison! Unfortunately I don't own either of those lenses. Maybe I can get my hands on a friend's version sometime! All the best!
sensational, I love your videos. I have the r5 and honestly here in Brazil rf lenses cost more than twice as much as ef lenses. i'm loving the 35mm 1.4 and now i'm getting the 85mm 1.4, especially after your videos
hi, i watched your canon ef 85mm f/1.4 review before. one of the reviewers asked about his performance with the R5. You stated in your answer that you had a problem with r5. i was wondering if this problem still exists because i have r5 and i want to get 85mm f/1.4. thanks in advance for your answer.
Sorry for the slow response! I have been crazy busy over here with wedding season and haven't had time to check my RUclips comments. I ending up selling my 85 1.4 shortly after making this video and kept the RF 85 1.2. About once or twice a wedding day, when using the EF 84 1.4 my R5 screen would go black and become unresponsive. I wondered if it had to do with the IS not working well with the IBIS of the R5. Maybe they fixed that in firmware later. Not sure. Hope that helps! Curious if you end up getting it or not. The 85 1.4 is an incredible lens!
@@ShaneLongPhotography Hello Shane, thank you for your return. Frankly, I thought the Rf lens update would be a better decision. I currently own an RF 85mm f/1.2L DS lens. I definitely believe I made the right choice. This lens is simply outstanding.
This is not the DS version. The DS has smaller bokeh with the edges smoothed out, and it lets in a little less light. But some like that look! Just wasn't worth the extra money for what I was after.
Still love coming back to your videos even long after buying some of the same equipment! I’m a happy owner of the RF 85 1.2 the 50 1.2, also the old EF 135 F2, I wondered have you considered trying out the new 135 1.8? For my style of individual portraits I almost like what the 135 f2 does better than the RF 85 1.2, it’s got some chromatic aberrations and not quite as sharp, but perhaps it’s the extra compression and the focal length being more to my liking. I love how good the 135 f2 is for the money so it’s hard to justify splashing out on the new one! Best wishes from Scotland!
From what I understand here, a 70-200 f/2.8 would be perfect for you. And it doesn't have to be the RF version. Because the EF 70-200 f2.8L IS III version has a higher build quality than the RF and has the same optical quality. But if weight is an issue, then go RF.
@@michelecintramika8482 I actually own the RF version and it’s fantastic! I’ve just become a dad in the past week so no more unnecessary splashing out on top tier lenses for me, but might consider swapping my 85 for 135 if I felt so inclined!
Congrats man!! Sorry for the slow reply. Been too busy around here. I would love to swap out my 135 for the RF 135. Just waiting for the price to drop a lot as I mostly just use that lens for ceremonies and receptions. But yeah I agree with all that you said!
@@ShaneLongPhotography I've bought the lens by the way. Used it on a few shoots and I'm really impressed. It seems a little slower than the 1.4 on adapter, but more accurate somehow. :)
Love the rf 85. But I couldn't turn down the chance for f1.4 for a 3rd of the price with the Samyang. Cant afford the 1.2. After updating the Samyang firmware, it works great on my R6. Watched the Video to drool over 1.2 bokeh
Beautiful photos. I love the bokeh. Thank you for showing such a great detailed review. I am getting back into the photography game. I have rented the 5D mark IV and 6D mark II. I have the EF 50 1.4. I’m thinking going eos R and maybe springing for the RF 50. I will do portraits and hopefully get into weddings and quinceñeras.
EF 50 1.4 compared to RF 50 1.2? There is not just one class between, it is more like a universe in difference. (owning the 1.4 for roughly 30 years and one hour of shooting time with the RF 1.2)
so in conclusion, it's really not much different between the 2 lens, if you need to do post process on your image, these minor differences are basically nothing. Also, the image stablization is a big plus for the EF , the price different is huge consider how little different these 2 lesn are. Check the price between 16-35mm ef and 15-35mm rf, the price different is very small, and the perfromance is almost the same. So in conclusion the EF 85mm f1.4 is a lot better option since nobody is gonna to notice the minor different of background if you object looks good enough.
Hello Leon! Yep they are similar! No client will probably ever notice. For me half the fun is the gear and looking at the images and noticing the minute details, and have a mix of adapted lenses and RF lenses when I am rapidly changing lenses on a wedding day got to be too cumbersome. So it was worth it for me, but it won't be for everyone! But yes the EF 16-35 and the EF 85 1.4 are incredible lenses for the price! All the best!
This video is seriously GAS-inducing! My wallet is shaking in fear. I got my R5 last week with a 24-105mm F4 lens, now you really got me thinking about getting this lens, but damn it's expensive. Love your content and enthusiasm, subscribed.
Hahaha!!! Such a great comment :) The lens is super fun. The RF 85 f/2 is also produces great images and is a lot easier on the wallet ;) Thanks for subscribing!!!
Thanks for doing this video! I just received my RF 85MM f/2 MACRO IS a couple days ago. I really want the f/1.2L and will probably get that next year if COVID goes away and weddings pick up again. If I had to make it through a whole wedding with just two prime lenses it would be the 35mm and an 85mm. I have both in the RF MACRO IS versions, and will likely upgrade to the L versions in the future.
Hey Jared! 35/85 is an incredible combo! I used my 35 during the cocktail hour the other night and it was amazing. No doubt that 85 f/2 is a great lens too! Such a value. All the best!

Thank you so much! It has been a really fun lens! Hope your R5 comes soon! It is such a fun camera :)
Shane, great photos!!! I have never had so pleaser colors with my R5. Can you share the link to preset that you used? Thanks a lot!
Thank you so much!! I owe the color accuracy to my wife who does my editing for me! Wish I could send the preset but its discontinued and we modified it :( All the best!!
Thanks for the review and for the great tests!
You have amazing photos!
P.S. Today I decided and ordered this magic glass for myself. 😁
Nice!! How are you liking it??
Are you using continuous AF and Servo AF during live-view shooting? What about video? (I have an R5C so video is different) Awesome review and makes me want to buy this lens. (I have the RF 50 f/1.2)
Thanks! I think I was using the video servo AF so it would just keep me in focus continually. Bet you love that R5C!
What's your opinion on the DS version? I might pick up the DS version instead of the standard one.
Sorry for the slow reply! Did you already decide? The DS has smaller bokeh but more smoothed out. It also doesn't let in quite as much light.
Have fun!!!
Loved this video. Would the r6 do enough justice to the RF 1.2?
Absolutely! My friend has that combo and LOVES it! The incredible accuracy of the AF on the R6 makes shooting at 1.2 possible.
Hi Canon R6 and lens EF 85mm f1.2 is good picture?
Absolutely!
My big question is the Canon 85mm f1.2 or the Sigma 105mm f1.4 for half the price of Canon.
Tough decision! What did you go with??
Lovely photography and great review on this lens! Thank you!
Thank you so much for the kind comment! Glad you enjoyed it!
I have had this lens for 2 years now too, the best lens in my kit and I have got many L and sony, by far the sharpest money maker lens.
Isn't it amazing?! Been using it a lot lately. Photos are always magical!
That was great! Can you do a comparison between the autofocus of the EOS R vs R5?
Thanks so much! I am working on that review right now! I want to do a good job on it so it will take me a couple weeks. Thanks for asking!
@@ShaneLongPhotography Wow! Thank you!
I think we already know which wins.... (I owned the R and own the R5 ;))
Oh my goodness I want this camera and lens.
It is a pretty amazing crazy lens. But you can make amazing photos with any 85mm!
I rarely shoot wide open, I'd consider the EF 85 1.4L IS if I can get it at an even better price than full. Though it's still $1000 less expensive.
Love the EF 85 1.4. Such a great lens!
Hi Shane , what is your lens that your shooting this video ?
Thank you for your great video 👍💪🏻
You are welcome! Thanks for watching! I used the RF 15-35 2.8 in for a lot of this video. Hope that helps!
Great comparison. Did you shoot in jpeg format?
I always shoot in RAW :)
Great video:) do u prefer rf85 or ef85 1.4 is with adapter on rp and r6? Thanks:)
The 1.2 has more background blur and is a little sharper, but sometimes I miss that 85 1.4. Both are amazing lenses!
@@ShaneLongPhotography OK Thanks:)
Having the 85 1.4, This is very helpful. Thanks Shane
Glad to hear it! All the best!
It's easy to know which is the RF lens. Look at the head size instead of the bokeh. The head, body, and everything are always larger on the RF lens.
Yeah there is a definite focal length difference!
Excellent presentation. I love your weding preset. would you sell? 😊
Thanks! Sadly I don't sell my preset :)
Im looking to to purchase my first 85mm i have the r 6 and eos r what 85 would you reconmend i shoot weddings mostly
I would start with the RF85 f2!
Do you always shoot in M mode or do you do AF
Almost always AF other than for macro work.
love love love your posts XXXXXX But after following you I have now to date spent £15,000 + on the EOS R5 accessories and various lenses. Please stop smiling in your videos as it is so contagious.
hahaha! Be careful with that credit card! I will frown in all my upcoming videos so that you don't spend any more money >:(
Great video.. got me thinking about this RF 85 f1.2 again.
So if you already own the EF 85 1.4 is there justification to upgrade to the RF, considering the outlandish price difference?
Good question! The 85 1.4 is a great lens! If you are happy with it, keep going! For me swapping lenses all day at weddings with some with adapters and some without, it got to be a mess, so I made the switch to virtually all RF glass now. Hope that helps!
@@ShaneLongPhotography Yes thank you
Useful video thanks, I just purchased the R5.
Thanks Shane you videos are excelent
I appreciate that!
Thank you for this comparison! It is has definitely helped me in my decision-making process.
You bet! All the best!
Nice Video ! is this the DS version ? do you know the difference ?
Soo happy you made this. Waiting for mine to come in!
You are going to love it!
Question
Should I give up any of the below lens for 85mm 1.2?
RF 15-35
RF 24-70
RF 70-200
RF 100-500?
Great question! Really depends on what you are shooting! They all have very different purposes. The 85 is for portraits, headshots, low light situations. I wouldn't say any of those lenses are a direct replacement for the 85. My wedding kit is the 15-35, 35 1.8, 50 1.2, 85 1.2, EF 135. But everyone shoots differently! If I were you, I would first look at adding the RF 50mm 1.2.
@@ShaneLongPhotography how about 28-70 f2 and 85 mm f1.2 combo . Trying to skip the 35 and 50 mm prime lenses
whic i choose 50 1.2 & 85 12 which one
Great Review but, I didn't see much of a comparison with EF 885mm f1.4
Thanks! Most of it the comparison was at the beginning. Did you end up deciding to buy one or the other?
@@ShaneLongPhotography Thanks for your response. Yes, I own Canon 85mm f1.4L
Such vibrant photos. Great job 👏🏼

When you say Minnesota and Florida joe does that work you go back and forth or does Florida have a wedding season in the winter months.
I can't speak for him but I'm from MN and work in Florida in the winter. There isn't as much photography jobs here during the winter as I would like. Next year I'll be relocating myself to southwest Florida full time.
@@KTWilliams Ben thinking to do the same.
Exactly what KTWilliams said! Our wedding season in Minnesota lasts from late May till October. Florida is the opposite. So it avoid the cold winters and still do some shoots, we like to spend time down in Florida in the winter!
I had the same issues w/ the dust cap alignment. Minor but annoying issue.
Agreed.
Thanks for this video. It only increased my expectations for the my own RF 85 1.2 lens. Now if only the R5 camera would get here.
Hope it arrives soon for you! I bet it has been such a long wait!
Don’t forget there is also the DS version which also has the benefit of „loosing“ a bit light, which can actually be a positive if you are shooting at daylight wide open
Dream lens, dream pics, dream review....Thx.
You bet! Thank you so much for the king comment Marc!
Excellent Video. You should be getting a lot more views and subscribers.
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching!

Hi,
Am looking to purchase 85mm canon lens, which would you recommend RF 85mm f2.0 or EF 85mm f1.4? Currently using R6
I'm wondering if the RF 85mm 1.2 with DS is really worth the extra $400-500.
Should do a comparison with the 85mm f/2 RF and the 85mm Ef 1.8
Much more of relevance: the RF 2.0 Macro
That would be a great comparison! Unfortunately I don't own either of those lenses. Maybe I can get my hands on a friend's version sometime! All the best!
Great review - pretty much cemented my decision to get the lens!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much for watching!
sensational, I love your videos. I have the r5 and honestly here in Brazil rf lenses cost more than twice as much as ef lenses. i'm loving the 35mm 1.4 and now i'm getting the 85mm 1.4, especially after your videos
Glad you like them! Thanks so much for watching! That 35 1.4 and 85 1.4 are incredible lenses!!!
Oh wow! I am amazed ... amazing camera, amazing!
Its pretty fun :)
Is the rf 85mm 1.2 autofocus faster in R5 than in the R.. I felt it a little slow in R
It sure is fast! The other day, I tracked my son driving a motor bike straight at me at 1.2 and it didn't miss a shot!
@@ShaneLongPhotography thnkyouu so much ❤️
For those that already have the EF 85mm 1.4L IS, do you feel the upgrade is worth it?
No.. I don't think so actually.
I agree. That 85 1.4 is amazing.
hi, i watched your canon ef 85mm f/1.4 review before. one of the reviewers asked about his performance with the R5.
Thats awesome! I have never used the DS version but I bet it makes some super soft bokeh. Have fun with it!
@@ShaneLongPhotography Thank you, yes soft bokeh is great.
Is this the non ds rf version?? Thank you in advance.
This is not the DS version. The DS has smaller bokeh with the edges smoothed out, and it lets in a little less light. But some like that look! Just wasn't worth the extra money for what I was after.
Love those sweet autumn backgrounds!
Me too! However, we just got a record breaking snow and now everything is covered!
thanks. Awesome video!!!!!
You're welcome!
@@WilliamJohnston The 70-200 f2.8 is ideal. If you need more light, just use a bounce flash.
Congrats man!! Sorry for the slow reply. Been too busy around here. I would love to swap out my 135 for the RF 135. Just waiting for the price to drop a lot as I mostly just use that lens for ceremonies and receptions. But yeah I agree with all that you said!
That is a great option too!
Perfeita explicacao , tenho uma canon 85 F1.2 e vou futuramente comprar uma RF 1.2

Great video. Very nice comparison. Loved the real world examples, much more useful than a technical analysis. Thanks! :)
Glad it was helpful! Thanks so much for the kind comment!!
@@ShaneLongPhotography I've bought the lens by the way. Used it on a few shoots and I'm really impressed. It seems a little slower than the 1.4 on adapter, but more accurate somehow. :)
Great comparison. I need to start saving.
Save your money! It is really fun!
Agree that the rear lens cap is a pain. Canon needs to AT LEAST put a red dot or red paint on the rear cap so it can quickly be aligned and installed.
So true. Great idea on the red dot. Especially during dark wedding receptions, it is hard to see where they line up!
Love the rf 85. But I couldn't turn down the chance for f1.4 for a 3rd of the price with the Samyang. Cant afford the 1.2. After updating the Samyang firmware, it works great on my R6.
Watched the Video to drool over 1.2 bokeh
I keep hearing great things about that Samyang! I am sure it is an amazing lens! Have fun!
focus cheat code. i am getting this for sure :)
Hahaha! Best comment ever. up up down down... R5
So good to hear! If you get an R, definitely get the RF50 1.2. It is an incredible lens!!! Have fun!
EF 50 1.4 compared to RF 50 1.2?
There is not just one class between, it is more like a universe in difference.
(owning the 1.4 for roughly 30 years and one hour of shooting time with the RF 1.2)
I have the Ef 85 1.2II and I can tell you its not meant for moving subject lol.. I am def upgrading..
Thats for sure! The RF has insanely fast AF!
So, I dont need to sell my ef 85mm 1.4 and adding $1500 for rf 85mm 1.2. They are almost same lenses but big difference on price.
There is a big difference in price! The EF 85 1. 4 holds up really well so the upgrade won't be for everyone!
your daughter is also so adorable!
Thank you!! I just love her ;)
so in conclusion, it's really not much different between the 2 lens, if you need to do post process on your image, these minor differences are basically nothing.
Great video!
Thanks! I really appreciate the kind comment!
This video is seriously GAS-inducing! My wallet is shaking in fear.
I got my R5 last week with a 24-105mm F4 lens, now you really got me thinking about getting this lens, but damn it's expensive.

Hahaha!!! Such a great comment :) The lens is super fun. The RF 85 f/2 is also produces great images and is a lot easier on the wallet ;) Thanks for subscribing!!!
That lens alone is a good reason to invest to the Canon RF ecosystem
Canon's 1.2 glass is incredible! Big reason why I love them!
Cool video, great photos great lens!

Right?! She is the best.
