Asmongold plays the cynical card too much whenever he's scared of making an argument from principle. The topic might be about morality, and to avoid being judgemental, Asmon just does the cheap "it doesn't matter what's right or wrong, what matters is you can't fully prevent people from doing the wrong thing." Those are the times when his chat and comments completely turn on him. But it's okay, we're not looking at him for moral clarification, he doesn't have to be a paragon of virtue all the time.

Which ended in this result. A lot of municipal, state and gov jobs have a list of fire-able offenses. I work at a muni and I know there is some vague clause in my contract that does NOT explicitly prohibit being a content creator, but strongly suggests that any negative attention from social media could be grounds for termination.
Personally, I wouldn't risk it bc my job is dope and I make bank. But social media has def complicated issues surrounding employment. I don't know what the solution is, because employers should probably have the ability fire ppl that hurt their rep. If I ran a construction biz and one of my guys started wearing dresses and makeup on the job site, I'd want to be able to fire them.
However, if they want to do that on their own time, that's none of my business. But when ppl have an online presence, their employer could suffer a negative association. In this case, the school is lame af, but I just don't know how you legislate laws that draw appropriate boundaries for each side of this issue. It's messy.

    • @JMHO56
      @JMHO56 5 месяцев назад +10

@RustCole01 fair points made. I am not sure if you watched Warren's previous video made immediately after getting fired.
In the previous video, he states that he met with a supervisor and lawyer and had emails. The meeting explained what was and was not allowed on social media. According to his previous video, he received confirmation after going on Dr Drew and other podcasts, that he did Not "cross the line".
My take on the situation is that the email and meeting was just for show. IMO, the decision was made to fire him at the end of the school year, no matter what. The months between the original JK Rowling video and getting fired was just a fishing expedition to gather evidence that he "crossed the line" on social media, as well as buy time to let things cool down, so firing him could not be directly linked to the JK Rowling video. If Warren did cross any lines, they would have evidence that it was intentional and that would be enough for an immediate termination.
So far as what you said about government and municipal policies, consider that a lawyer was involved, and someone was paid to watch and monitor all the podcasts Warren went on, plus monitoring all of Warren's social media. This cuts into someone's budget. Basically, it is cheaper And easier just to fire an employee, rather than wait an extended period of time on the chance that a line be crossed publicly that would require immediate termination. It's pre-emptive and precautionary measures. IMO, the policies that "allow social media as long as..." is lip service to the 1st amendment and window dressing to make supervisors appear fair. It's basic "cover your ass" tactics. IRL is what Warren faced. Termination plus an NDA (non disclosure agreement) to sweep everything under the rug.
Apparently, Warren took the meetings and instructions in good faith, which is why he felt blind sided at getting fired. He also brings up the lack of support or curiosity of his peers regarding his social media presence. I think it might be likely, that his peers were pulled aside and warned that Warren would soon be terminated, so his peers should stay away and not bring up the topic and to notify a supervisor if he did "disrupt the workplace" by discussing his social media appearances. (Or his peers might be next in line to get fired.)
For me, I would be curious to find out the policies of the school board in charge of his former school, to see if it had strong DEI (diversity equity and inclusion) leanings to protect the endangered LGBT community. Critical thinking skills would eventually prove critical gender theory as false and unscientific.
Allowing progressives to claim the word "gender" to describe people, instead of maintaining use of the word "sex" is when they won.
I have no idea if Warren is straight or not (nor do I care), but it was easy for him to be fired as a white male because "equity" doesn't apply in practice as political pundits preach it.
Warren, if you read this, you are young, bro. You will bounce back having Earned XP. Please be extremely cynical about any HR or supervisor "being on your side". Everyone is replaceable, from generals to presidents. There is always someone else waiting in line. The irony of the situation is that the US public school system was designed to train people to become thoughtless workers. They wanted you to be a thoughtless worker, another cog in the machine. Another brick in the wall. They did not want you to actually teach or be an example of critical thinking. This is why Greece voted to exile Socrates. How dare you follow his footsteps and spread his message and methods? It's a threat to "democracy". Just saying. You are in good company. 😉
It's a loss for the students and that community.

Ayup. This is a based take for sure. When I was young in the 1970s the rule at work was 'don't bring your politics to work', not 'you can't be political at all' which is really what many companies are now doing.
At my own place of employment they are supporting all the current stupid gender rules like it is de-facto truth, which it is nothing of the sort.. Since I started working until now things have done a 180 degree turn toward a high level of authoritarian behavior on the part of businesses.
I feel like my job for the last 10 years has been a front row seat to a theater of the absurd.. except I can't leave the theater and everyone is playing for keeps.
The regulatory state actually expects this.. which is not really suprising. Regulatory agencies are at the center of fascist states. The rules passed don't require evidence or even previous occurrences of wrongdoing. Just some regulator that decides a rule is needed.

I would disagree, this only happened as the "new public management" structure AND social media took hold some 15-25 years ago.
If you have Facebook etc. and put in the timeline "I work here, for this company".
Every moron in society will target the company when the individual is out of line, hence the company must hold the individual responsible.
This is not a "capitalism" problem, but a lazy problem where individuals themselves put work and private in the same basket making it impossible to differentiate between the two.
Like this teacher is himself to blame for the loss of his writings, although he should have been allowed to extract the files.
He made the mistake of putting private in the basked exclusive to work.

@@torgrimhanssen5100 I mentioned "evil capitalism" because I see business personification at work here. As in having a business with a person's attributes, such as freedom of association. And I see that as the main reason we have unfair markets, including the job market. A fair market is a prerequisite for "good capitalism". So I think we'd be much better off if we regulated this issue, somewhat commodified employment, so the morons would know that the employer's hands are tied and there's no point in screeching at them.
And I agree wholeheartedly about the work issued devices, I commented on the original video. I see it all the time and basically, yeah, people who don't figure out that a couple of hundred bucks can save them from a lot of misery have no one but themselves to blame.

    • @SirZelean
      @SirZelean 5 месяцев назад +3

I think the problem here is people. Companies are "forced" to act like this, because people nowadays are stupid and attack companies for what their employees say and do. So in fear of suffering popular retaliation, it's easier to just fire the employee. If these people weren't such assholes on the internet, there would be no need to fire anyone for saying anything.

    • @johnromberg
      @johnromberg 5 месяцев назад +2

@@SirZelean People, individuals need to have the freedom to be stupid, assholes, to hate, etc. Basically do almost anything, by default. Businesses need very few "freedoms" and they certainly don't need to be able to leverage employment to make a welder relinquish their freedom to hold whatever opinions they want outside of work.

In fact, during the Hogwarts Legacy debacle, he had mostly good takes but at that point repeatedly assumed the worst of Rowling, keeping the brunt of his arguments away from her, refusing to even see what she had said because she wasn't a doctor or biologist. To my knowledge, the first time he ever actually heard anything of what she had said was interacting with your videos. He also has a tendency to disregard a lot of arguments from Christian sources, though I won't say that's every time. Even so, he does still have those great takes where he tends to be more on the money than just about anyone else.

There are so many factually incorrect things he says about religion, but it's also the factually untrue things that go around social media so it's understandable as someone who isn't religious, hasn't read the information, nor invests in learning the topic, you're going to repeat the same disinformation you've heard.

Here’s a story about one (my) teacher:
In my third year of high school (1996), I had a sociology teacher who treated us like university students and future academic citizens. He always addressed us with respect, even though he called us uneducated and fools. I wasn’t interested in sociology and didn’t study it. The teacher gave me another chance at the end of the school year. To avoid failing the remedial exam and having to study over the summer, I learned literally all the lessons from the book by the end of the school year.
When the last class came for me to answer, I stood before him and the teacher asked me:
    "What did you study, colleague?"
    "Everything!" I replied.
"Everything?!" he said, and added that I could choose what I wanted to talk about.
Of all the chapters in the book, the lesson on world religions interested me the most.
    I said: "Religion!"
"Excellent, colleague! Excellent!" he said and told me to talk about religious cults.
In the book, there were only a few sentences about religious sects alongside their definition. I remembered everything exactly, almost to the point of recalling the exact page, but at that moment I had a mental block. I couldn’t answer anything. The teacher failed me, and I had to take the remedial exam, which I passed a few months later.
Ten years later, I met him in a restaurant where he was sitting with his wife. I approached him and greeted him. I said: "I apologize for interrupting, but I never had the chance to thank you for failing me on the remedial exam, as it was the best lesson I ever had in my education."
Later, I often met him, and we would frequently have coffee and talk about everything. Whenever I sat with his son, I would ask how his father was and to send him my regards.
A few years ago, I met the teacher again and stopped him to ask him one question.
"Professor, do you remember why you failed me on the remedial exam?" The teacher thought for a moment but couldn’t remember exactly. I explained the whole situation from that distant 1996 and said I was curious about one thing.
I told him that I knew the answer to the question about "religious cults" but had a mental block at that moment. I couldn’t say what was written in the book, nor could I say what I had in mind. I asked him if he would have passed me if I had had the courage to say what I had in mind at that moment.
"What did you want to say?" he asked.
I told him I wanted to quote my thought from that moment: "Professor, I would ban all that by law!"
The teacher replied in less than a second: "Immediately!"
Back then, in 1996, I was only 18 and unaware of many things. Only later did I realize that his approach and attitude towards us, his students, was essentially preparation for our further education, learning critical thinking, and the courage to express ourselves freely.
I still consider him the best teacher I ever had.

Zack is just a genuine guy.
He has a rough, unrefined logical thought process that I can relate to.
He has moments of true profundity and then will immediately say something that makes my eyes do a complete 360 degree roll.
    He's nothing if not entertaining.
It led me here and that's something.

You put into words something I struggle to explain.
Asmon is so unrefined and kinda off but the logic is almost perfect.
I think he's right about most things while also being dumb about it.

I enjoy watching your content. However, one thing is really bothering me. Your Rode mic is a dynamic mic and you have it pointed at the ceiling. In all fairness it is just my 'Tism.
