Asmon's thoughts in his About My House Tour video align with what @RagnarokPKXD said about projecting. It's not what I, or many other people, would want. It's what Asmon wants. Leave him be.
He's more like a nurgling, like in a constant state of being and been around of of illness, but instead of suffering from it, he lives from it, down right to enjoing it.
Asmon's house is like a Dark Souls game. Things just find their place and never get touched until you happen upon it years later and it is rich with environmental story telling.
The way he said “There’s an area where a dead rat decayed the carpet” sounds like he was just talking about a patch of dead grass in his otherwise pristine property
dudes a wreck idc if he's rich. Nothing teehee quirky cute about having a corpse decaying openly in your living space so long that it stains the carpet, which you then neglect to clean. Then bragging about it publicly. I don't watch this guy but I am convinced it must be intentional. Which almost makes it worse.. The type of person who unintentionally lets a corpse rot into their carpet, wouldn't want to admit it, let alone brag about. I'm sure there's a metaphorical lesson in there somewhere. Something about not letting the dead rat rot into your freaking carpet.
If you're planning to defeat the Asmonlair raid you're gonna need mold resist on your gear, insecticide for the trash mobs, and equip your gas masks for the deeper parts of the dungeon.
At first I thought this was a bit but this is actually his house 😲 What is going on with him, depression or something? Someone care to explain? YT recommended this video, never seen the guy before, hope he's well.

In a way Asmon is living his dream. The sadness comes from the unstoppable progression of time. I don’t think I could mentally handle still being in my childhood home, alone, after my mom had passed. I hope he stays well and his friends look after him.
Thats the problem, holding on to a time that already has passed. Life goes on, he can cherish these moments, preseverving this house, but he can live elsewhere.

From people that understand the complexity of mental health this is a tell-tale sign. Nothing but respect to him for even making effort to do and he better.
My mother and brother used to live the same way. He got much worse after she died. I can't believe Asmo's friends keep laughing in his face. It's probably just shock, but it feels bad man.

@@anusaukko6792Personally, I view it more like cognitive dissonance: He knows full well just how unhealthy his lifestyle is, which is why he’s so open about showing it, but his deeper base brain is obsessed with the comfort that comes from preserving it. He wants it, but truly deep down, he knows that he shouldn’t. He knows what he’s doing is wrong, he’s just not mentally strong enough to forgo what makes him happy in favor of what’s good for him. I’ve been in that of mental state before and I can tell you, it’s basically just a coping mechanism for serious depression. It's a tricky situation because he has money, he can live literally anywhere, idk sometimes all a person knows is home. Losing his mom probably made the house more sentimental to him, If I were him i'd just renovate the house.@@chromasux2
I think this is an eye opener for people that didn't believe him when he said his house is a literal biohazard, I admire his honesty and acknowledgement of his living situation and he doesn't make any excuses whatsoever

@@oxsilaYou can literally see that he's unhappy. No haircut in two plus years and he quit streaming on his main just to name two things. There's nothing wrong with wanting to keepsake things but if that were the case he would clean, put things up for display and throw away the shit he doesn't need. Instead he's stopped doing the dishes and just gets plastic ones instead. He hasn't changed anything about the house to make it "his" instead he's trying to preserve it the way it was. This is a museum of old memories and not a home. Edit: He's also stopped using shampoo as of recently which just adds another layer of him taking less care of himself than ever before.
@oxsila it's not projecting, it's the psychological. Well adjusted humans take care of themselves. If your hungry you find food. If your dirty you clean yourself. You naturally take care of yourself. People who lose basic hygiene are often signs of a troubled mind. You think I say this because I hate asmongold. I have watched asmongold for 5 years. although i would never live like this, i understand how he got to this point and how it is sustainable for him. i remember reading about a study that smart people are able to live in a messy room because they can remember where everything is, not because they have a organized place for everything but because they remember where it was last used. when i am not home often and i just stop in to grab things, my room can get messy, but everything that isnt put away is left where it is used. believe it or not, its time efficient. he answers a lot of the questions with "because it takes less time". when i was younger without responsibilities i used to play wow a lot, and i remember trying to get all necessities done as quickly as possible to maximize the amount of time to play the game, or sometimes just procrastinate by playing the game. the thing is, this is how he makes his money. he has a system that works, its messy, but it works for him.
Watching this feels actually somewhat relatable to me, as Tectone said, "it's like a time capsule" and yeah, he lived there with his parents until it was just him and his mother until she passed, and I'm basically in the same boat, my mother died but her things are still in the same places... while I can understand why someone would call these things trash, these things for me mean memories.
you are not alone my friend. i have things placed on tables and all around, simple things like a cup, that were placed there by my mom, for many many years now. I never really gave it much thought until now. it's nice to know there's other ppl in the same boat. ppl that played WoW, MTG, shared life experiences, etc etc. its even crazier that someone like that became a super popular streamer.' edit: i also never moved out and we played games together, watched anime, etc.. lost my best friend at the same time. life is pretty harsh
my mother passed last year, family had to clean her room out. Me and my kids lived here with her and now im going to take over her room, its empty and its been a year... im still in my old room. I want to move (more room) but its not easy. I haven't been in there since its been cleaned out, i can move clothes in there and set the bathroom up and things like that but im still fighting to pull myself out of bed most days, let alone start to take over what was my parents room for 41 years. It's so hard.
I understand that too. Our mom has passed last year too and we cleaned everything up, sorted out stuff, but nobody wants to use her old room, it's just there.
I mean it's a little different for Asmongold, the stuff laying around is one thing, all the real trash, like real garbage and the dirty places is just another one completely different thing
Same for me. I inherited the house I live in from my mom after she died back in 2020. Except for the three years I was in college and the 6 months when I rented an apartment, I have lived in my house since I was a baby. Grew up here, and I'm going to stay here until the day I die. There is some clutter, but it is not as bad as I have seen in most other houses I've been in or seen on TV (hoarder shows) or as it looks here in Asmon's house. Things do need fixing here, but I live on a fixed income and am physically disabled from a work accident that happened 10 years ago. I just don't have enough money to fix the place up like it should be. He has money, I understand, enough to clean his place up proper. I've known a couple of old men who had their own businesses and were very frugal. They dressed like farmers and country boys with overalls and caps. To look at them you wouldn't think they were wealthy. No aspersions on Asmon, he lives like he wants to, it is his life, can't blame him for that.
based on *personal* experience: To clean this he'd have to go through all this stuff and decide what to do with it, and that means he would have to confront himself with a lot of potentially bad memories. Especially that his mom died he would have to face (again) and there's most likely much more we do not know about. It's not just an act of cleaning up.
All the comfort from the memories and personality that the house provides him is probably one of the main things keeping this man going. There's nostalgia overflowing from this house. Like he is inside a time capsule.
This absolutely breaks my heart. A man who lived with and supported his mother who was essentially wasting away. Now all that's left is him and the house that they shared. I hope he sees what he needs to change for himself one day.
As long as he's happy, why change? He's not living any worse than a lot of folks, he would normally just be a retired young multi millionaire, whose he hurting? He's going to die young? He doesn't smoke, and he seems to be in decent shape man idk. Yeah his house is a wreck, but there's definitely way worse situations than his.
Because the way he's living is disgusting. Insane people are probably happy too if you give them some baby toys to play with, happiness doesn't change that the way he's living is objectively disgusting and unhealthy.@@tso8174 "he seems to be in decent shape" Bro what, he's a skeleton and probably can't run a football field.

its honestly ridiculous on asmongold's part. idk how it isn't embarrassing when people that know him come over and are so visibly uncomfortable by how bad it is. he lives like a teenager whose parent just died and doesn't know how to do literally anything, being a mid 30s man child and saying it's "just how you live" is and will always be nothing but sad.
when emiru was about to bring the paper towerl and asmon said "youre literally wearing pants" it confused me for a solid 15 minutes before i understood meant to use the pants to whipe her hands...
I still use my pants and shirt to wipe my hands. When you work a dirty job, you stop caring. Obviously I wash before eating and use paper towels to dry them off, but when you get caulk, grease, oils, paint, etc and don't want to get any of it on anything else, but just can't step away to wash your hands (especially if you're gonna immediately get them dirty again), you just make do for now. I would never wipe anything with germs in it on my clothes, just those things I mentioned. Maintenance jobs are like that.
While I understand that Asmon is completely fine with this, I am curious about his attachment to the house and memories - you commonly see in Hoarders when the crew starts to trash out a house and clean it, the people's trauma starts to reveal itself on why they don't want to let things go.
I lived with my parents until I was 30. I was scared of growing old in the family home (and looking after my parents) so I bought my own place and moved out. Not sure what I'm going to do with their house when the time inevitability comes. I think I might just take the important stuff then hire someone to strip the place out, then sell it. I'm glad I'm not sentimental.
I work in Social Housing in the UK. You see Asmon's situation pretty often here and it is common. Mental health usually plays a big part. Asmon always wants us to be honest - so let's be honest - none of us would want to live in a shithole like this. Especially when he 100% has the money to improve his living situation. It's usually people with some form of trauma or attachment issues. One I've seen a lot recently is 'grief hoarding' where a husband or wife passed away 2-3 years ago and the surviving partner just lets everything go. They keep things that are of literally no value and the place is a dump. It gives me exceptionally high job satisfaction to help get these people back on the right track. A few months after I've put my interventions in place you could eat your dinner off the carpet it is that clean and they're a lot happier.
The comment Teccy made about the house being a time capsule is accurate af. Asmon never wanted anything in his life to change. He just wanted to play video games with his friends since he was a kid.
This was a difference experience than watching him just behind his pc. As a 32 year old i understand how it is dealing with past life memories an depression. Stay strong Asmon

As someone who grew up in a dirty hoarder house, i can relate. If you grow up in that environment it becomes normalized for you so you just block it out. I moved on and live in a clean house now but it hits me in the nostalgia watching this. same, his house looks like my grandmas house. The kitchen REALLLY brings back some childhood memories in a weird way. even down to the pump action dawn soap and fake/real dying plants lol. weirdly enough, i also grew up in Texas.
I went the opposite. When I moved in with my ex her place was an absolute mess while I moved from a clean home. I could never get used to it and I tried cleaning it but every time I did it would be a mess again. I don’t know how anyone can live like this. Seriously.
Yeah I feel that. A lot of my family members lived a bit like this but my mom kept a real clean house. Every time I’m in an environment like this I feel like a child again. Creates a level of discomfort that overwhelms me.

I feel so much better about my house.

based on *personal* experience:
To clean this he'd have to go through all this stuff and decide what to do with it, and that means he would have to confront himself with a lot of potentially bad memories.
Especially that his mom died he would have to face (again) and there's most likely much more we do not know about. It's not just an act of cleaning up.

Asmongold is living in the Resident Evil 7 house 😂
This absolutely breaks my heart. A man who lived with and supported his mother who was essentially wasting away. Now all that's left is him and the house that they shared. I hope he sees what he needs to change for himself one day.
As long as he's happy, why change? He's not living any worse than a lot of folks, he would normally just be a retired young multi millionaire, whose he hurting? He's going to die young? He doesn't smoke, and he seems to be in decent shape man idk. Yeah his house is a wreck, but there's definitely way worse situations than his.
Because the way he's living is disgusting. Insane people are probably happy too if you give them some baby toys to play with, happiness doesn't change that the way he's living is objectively disgusting and unhealthy.@@tso8174

Why change? Maybe he's still going through the mourning process and the house as it is acts as a security blanket. People only know the streamer, not Asmond with his family and growing up. Even with all his baggage, he's still one of the most successful streamers to date, so anyone having a cry need to take a long look in the mirror and ask yourselves, does a clean bedroom pay the bills? I still use my pants and shirt to wipe my hands. When you work a dirty job, you stop caring. Obviously I wash before eating and use paper towels to dry them off, but when you get caulk, grease, oils, paint, etc and don't want to get any of it on anything else, but just can't step away to wash your hands (especially if you're gonna immediately get them dirty again), you just make do for now.
I would never wipe anything with germs in it on my clothes, just those things I mentioned. Maintenance jobs are like that.

We need a updated tour after he cleaned his house
While I understand that Asmon is completely fine with this, I am curious about his attachment to the house and memories - you commonly see in Hoarders when the crew starts to trash out a house and clean it, the people's trauma starts to reveal itself on why they don't want to let things go.
These types of hoarder behaviours are likely genetic. It didn't suddenly turn this way when his mom passed away. It was like this when she was around.
I dont think its hoarding, i just think he doesnt like to clean or hes too lazy to.
Probably
I think it's really nice of Emi and Tec to befriend this man who's fallen on hard times.

As someone who grew up in a dirty hoarder house, i can relate.
If you grow up in that environment it becomes normalized for you so you just block it out. I moved on and live in a clean house now but it hits me in the nostalgia watching this. (though it was less trash and more climbing over hoarded garbage and trashbags full of random crap for my childhood)
