My gq got 330k and clutch is just about gone. Throw out bearings with noisy when I bought it back in 2019. I going sell it last year and guy would pass the roady because noisy bearing. (Was not that trying to buy $12000 plus patrol for $3000 off me) I been my daily for last 12 months and still going
Yes it’s amazing right tools for the job makes life so much easier. I’ve been doing it the hard way for 25 years. I just bought myself the same transmission jack
I remember having to do the oldman Toyota Corona in the driveway on ramps in the middle of winter. Burnt it out and had to get it done before he got home from holidays and more importantly, before he found out!
Been doing Patrol boxes for years and its far easier to drop the transfer case off first then pull the gearbox out by itself. Makes life a hell of a lot easier. & I'm guessing that you didn't pressure lube the spigot bearing before installing given that you didn't show the process. Hopefully it doesn't bind up, especially if you only greased it.
Fancy schmancey with a lift and a jack. I grew up helping Dad replace HQ & HX gear box’s having car on ramps. Dad putting me on a mechanic trolly and placing gearbox on my chest, pushing me into it place by my legs and the sayin “lift it boy! A bit higher! Hold it!” As he started a bolt on either side to hold box up. First time it happened that way was my 13th birthday. Remember doing 5 gearbox’s that way, 1 took hours and hours….. it just wouldn’t seat, until he realised he’d grabbed the wrong box from under the bench. Grabbed the HR’s 186 4speed box instead of the HQ’s 253 box (the joys of dad owning own business, losing gears on way home from work and doing an overnight replacement in the backyard before work & school next day).
Use bread seriously. It's a trick that my dad taught me years ago. You take a piece of bread and you put it in the hole. Then you find a socket a bolt something That fits the whole. Then you take your hammer and hit. The bolt or socket or whatever you have in the hole. The pressure will push the bearing out.
Adjusting the free play on the master cylinder push rod may help with the clutch engaging so close to the floor, or making a longer temporary push rod for the slave cylinder to give it more throw. Great episode and awesome to see Nathan going out on his own 😀
I just love cars! street n strip, fourbys or classics. i can appreciate the work gone into any build, just like you boys, obviously. keep it up boys 🤘🤠👍
Had a GQ and thrust bearing went too. Mine went because welsch plug on back of engine was leaking coolant out onto the thrust bearing. Rule of practice on them, they are such a bitch of a job to pull gear box out u should of changed the welsh plugs on back of engine too and know your safe troible free kms for another few hundred thousand kms. Other then that good job.
Clutches come already balanced and the flywheel is already balanced. Balancing them together just isn't ever necessary especially on a low revving motor. Also the flywheel and clutch only ever spin at engine speed, no relation to road speed
You guys do a great job of these cars but someone deserves some credit for the great video/editing work as well!
Thank you mate, that’s much appreciated, we do all our own editing and filming too
Onya Michael!!!!
Flywheel resurfacing, m'eh..... It's not Hackshop for nothing. That's right up my alley. Got grooves in it,sand harder i say.
Giddyup.
Fabulous video!! My GQ clutch needs to be replaced after doing only 680,000km's! At least I now know what's involved. Thank you.

Lucky you have a hoist and a gearbox jack.... I put a manual in about 5 weeks ago in the backyard on the ground

Congrats and good luck with your business Nathan!
Honestly forgot you guys had these 4by's, love the content as always
Finally, some GQ content woo.
Been doing Patrol boxes for years and its far easier to drop the transfer case off first then pull the gearbox out by itself. Makes life a hell of a lot easier.

I see the flywheel not getting faced and I shudder!
This is so beautiful too see you guys smashing projects
Love this channel. Always good content and a good laugh.
Well done lads, good laugh as always
😀 all the best with the new venture.
I have a mate who converted a hills hoist into a transmission jack ,works a treat
Good luck on the new business 👍
When are you guys doing a walk through video on this rig?
Fancy schmancey with a lift and a jack.

Good video. One thing I would have done is seal the bell housing with some sealent
Nathan, Your OCD is slipping, That gearbox was still dirty when it went back in...... 😅🤣😂. Great Vid, keep up the good work 😃👍
When was the last time it had valve adjustment
Yet another 😎cool video.
Just wanted to know were can I get good quality wrap from.
Is there anything that Nathan hasn't killed yet? LOL
Word of the day - “Simba” 😅😅😅😂😂
Nathan should stay away from gearboxs clutches and torque converters. But being a hackshop video. Its worth it
I did a clutch on my GQ in the driveway on my back with my 14 year old son with only a trolley jack. I wish I could have got a wheeled bench under it
10/4 Camo got ya ears on .......
If it's a stock petrol motor it's easier to pull the motor out then it is for the box to do a clutch
Great video boys. How many hours you do it. I got to do mine. But I be rolling around on the dirt. Cheers Graham
awesome video

You need to back the hand brake adjustment right off then twist the drum off

I found it was easier when you're in the concrete floor is to remove the motor 😂
Also my hilux has the same rims as nathans patrol 👌... excellent taste i must say 😆
🤙
Another good vid guys. Can’t wait for next week. Been hanging out for some XY content 🎉
Gloves add an extra 10% torque! 😜
Hey bro, Ive owned my gq since I was 19, TD 42 4life it will out last me
You Can remove the spigot bearing with bread......
Tuff rig
👍🏻👏🍺

You should get the flywheel and clutch balanced as a unit or clutch vibration at 90 to 100 kmh is a sure thing.
Clutches come already balanced and the flywheel is already balanced. Balancing them together just isn't ever necessary especially on a low revving motor. Also the flywheel and clutch only ever spin at engine speed, no relation to road speed
Hey where is the star of the show Loki
I love your content boys. I'd love to have a shed like yours. What an awesome setup.
More Loki thanks - :)
