For ease of access, there’s also the Amtrak train that stops directly at the resort. For a midwestern, this seems like a really good option, but we’ll find out more later this season.
Facts! Living in the Midwest I specifically picked winter park for this reason as my Colorado destination this year. Straight from downtown Chi all the way to the base of the slopes. You can’t really say that about any other CO resort. Plus way cheeper than flying.
as an east coaster I'm flying here because its the same cost doing 5 days here compared to 3 or 4 on the east coast and being forced to get a rental car. That train literally sold me on the deal.
Related to access: If you are coming from the front range (DEN airport, Denver, Boulder, etc), I find the access much more consistent and easier than when you go to Breck, Keystone, Vail, etc because you get off I-70 before you hit the traffic jam around Eisenhower tunnel. Also, the pass is a big road with two lanes going uphill which is really well maintained during winter.
Funny you mentioned ultimate powder day. Spring break 2022, last year, I had the single best ski day ever at WP. Thursday, near the end of my week, it had accumulated over 2 feet of fresh pow pow over on the palisades side. Lift access didnt open up until just after 9am, and I was able to get in many runs in fresh, near waist deep powder. Dream day, dream conditions, and on a Thursday when it wasnt crowded. Love WP!
@@august_west_9016 Yeah, that is what I was referring to. I made a mistake in typing 21, thinking that was last year. But it was 22. The whole week was great, but that Thursday was just epic. There were stashes of 2.5 feet of freshies in some areas.

I haven’t gone skiing in 23 years. Decided to book a trip with my two kids (9 yrs and 15yrs) for Spring break. We’re all beginners. Booked a room at Best Western which is supposed to be very close to the resort. Would love opinions on where to eat. Would also like recommendations for shuttle service from Denver International to Winter Park.
From someone who grew up skiing winter park, if you wanna ski extreme terrain you gotta check out: The cirque The hole in the wall chute Brian's run Mushroom patch Pony express trail And Riflesight trees
@@JohnathanBuckhouse Hell yeah that'd be sick! I'll be in Colorado in December but after January I'll be back in Montana so if you wanna ski bridger or big sky I can show you around there too!
Winter park was the first ski trip I've ever been on back in a school trip in highschool and it rocked my world. I'm 27 now and have been dying to go back sometime before I'm 30 hopefully lol
There's 32 shacks all across the mountain just off main trails. The star wars trees off the high lonesome and Topher trees are some of the best trees on Park side and Jane side. When we get enough snow the pass closes and it becomes a no tourist ski day makes it pretty rad. I've lived in Winter Park since 2009 and basically only get a winter park pass cause the terrain varies so much you don't need to travel. Rail yard to dark territory (now section 4) is pretty great.
@@nomad4594 I’m a local, grew up in Granby, but I haven’t skied as much as my friends. Can you please point me in the direction of the Star Wars and Topher trees?
Worked nights for 6 years here and rode 110+ days every season. There are more than 60 huts strewn across the mountain not 30😂 tophers trees are skiers left bombing up into the trees off sunnyside(track is evident) hike up and enjoy the semi-solitude and sick terrain. Starwars trees are skiers right off the top of the hi-lo lift at the top. Spent the last 12 years ripping UT but will never forget my time in WP/MJ. Lifties don’t know 💩….find yourself the night facilitates crew and that’s the true hounds🙃😁👍 don’t forget belle fouche’ and bonus points for hiking the cliff hits above belle
Also hit the cliffs at the top of brakeman then 1/2 way cut over to coupler trees🤤 can’t forget hit up the mushroom patch as well😝 the hollywood hit on brians run is a fun one if you enjoy lift spectacles🤪
I have sometimes seen people from out of state that go super super slow (I would guess around 10 mph) on the pass close to the entrance of Winter Park. It once took me 3 hours to get there from my house instead of a normal hour 30. I do remember a good experience with a employee. One time I was very young (7 or 8) I got stuck on a cat walk, and some very kind ski patrol came by and let me tag along and hold onto his pole so I could catch up with my family.
Traffic is actually better going to Winter Park from Denver than most everywhere else because you don’t have to spend as long on I-70. With that and the train, ease of access should definitely be higher than a 4.
Something isn’t right! The scoring system needs to be tweaked. There aren’t many people who would agree that Winter Park is better then Vail, Park City, or Breckenridge …. Yes Winter Park is scoring wayyyy higher then these solid resorts. No bueno. Once Snowbird, Jackson, and Whistler get reviews they should be atop the list or this rating system might not be so useful …. Buckhouse videos def score high though! 99!!!! Money.
Thanks man! We haven’t reviewed snowbird, Jackson or whistler yet. That’s why WP is higher. Also one bad score like park can put the overall score below another ski resort like vail not having a good park hurt them. The categories really are there to give me talking points 🤙🏼
Like every other big resort, Winter Park is too damn expensive. I skied there a lot back in the 80’s when it was affordable and didn’t have that big resort attitude. Unnecessary stuff like iPads on the chairlift just keep the prices going up…. Stupid. It’s a shame, they have a great variety of terrain to appeal to everyone. Used to be a great place to go as a family. At their current price, not so much. Why does every resort want to be like Vail? I just want warm, clean, affordable lodging; affordable restaurants; a good skiing experience; a friendly, family welcoming atmosphere. Don’t need all the glitz and glamour that skiing has become. I will stick to the few ski areas left that give a you a great skiing experience without all the useless frills and extravagant prices.
Is that the one where the fat people sit on tire inner tubes that say coca cola and bounce around? There was a 2 ton family there the half ton momma looked at the 500 lb son and pointed at me and said "thats called steroids". She wasn't actually half a ton but I bet she was at least 400. I am 262 and she was twice my size.

Yeah I was going to mention this. I feel like the train that drops you off directly at the slopes should easily bump it to like a 7 or 8.
