I only recently started riding with a passenger as well and I totally agree, it's definitely a lot different than riding solo. First time I rode with my passenger we were going up an incline sharp turn and we fell (thankfully with less than 7mph so no harm done) Wait till you have to maneuver between traffic, then it gets a hell of a lot scarier haha
It’s easy to understand how you fell! I feel like we got close LOL. And yeah for sure I’m not going to be ready for that anytime soon😂 I didn’t particularly like it haha
My only experience in the last 30ish years riding 2up (Which is about 3 times) is when I'm with another rider who's bike has broke down and we had to get out of the hills. This is a great subject to cover when starting out riding that most people would not even think about practicing, Great video! The one take away I remember from those rides is the Head Bonking! So much Head Bonking..
Thank you!! That is exactly the type of situation that I had in mind when wanting to practice it :) I don’t think it will be something I do often though, it’s so sketch hahah And the bonking!! Lol I’m glad it’s not just us
Well, you've one-upped me again. I haven't ridden on dirt roads, and I haven't taken a pillion. I probably will one day take a pillion, but I have no desire to ride on anything other than pavement. Having said that, this video will be useful to me when I do finally take a pillion. Thanks.
Reminds me of the first time I was taken pillion. The 44 year old enduro bike I was borrowing had broken down and after the owner came and got it with the van I finished the trip on the back of my friends bike. Going from a classic enduro with drum brakes that work on hopes and dreams to the back of a sports bike was very weird, especially given how different mine and my friends riding styles are. I'll happily throw around a 500lb bike on a gravel farm track, but leaning while on the back of a bike felt so sketchy, apparently I was the tightest they've ever had a pillion hold on.
I'm glad neither mine or my fiance's bike have passenger seats or pegs LOL but I do think when the weight of the passenger is more than the rider, it can cause some balance issues. Does Nick have his own bike?? If so it'd be awesome to see a video of you two riding together! All this time my fiance and I still haven't ridden together LOL.
Yeah I feel this though haha it was not my favorite 😅 And not yet! We bought this bike together to share and learn on..kind of a test to see if we wanted to get another one! And we definitely do, just not sure when🫣 Someday we will each have a bike and zoom around together lol Would love to see a vid of you guys riding together! So fun
Having a pillion that trusts you 100% makes it so much easier to ride with. My daughter is 17 and has to be the best pillion I have ever had in all my years of riding. The only time I notice she is on the back is when I'm stopping. She is perfect in corners, doesn't fidget and always confirms verbally when ever she is getting off / on. This is another tick in the box for you. Well done Gabi, you have achieved so much in such a small amount of time. If at some stage you are starting to take pillions frequently, you could fit a tank grab bar, it's something that fits onto your petrol tank cap. But to be honest you only really need this is you are driving like a complete squid.
Yeah that sounds awesome! It is probably also nice when the passenger is smaller than you are😂 it probably won’t be something I do often, too sketchy for me, especially if I had to go around cars 😅 And thank you so much I appreciate it!!
Well done both of you for practicing, I used to like taking pillion somewhere, because it like you are sharing the experience of doing something you enjoy lol, and most pillions like the experience, even if it's their 1st time, because its unlike anything they have done before, I took a buddy pillion to the summer solstice at stonehenge once, he loved it and immediately swore he would get a bike licence, which he did, but although he rode a bit more wild than me at his stage, he found being a pillion was more exciting!? 🤷♂️😅.... 1 thing I will say, is good for you for pulling away slowly, with an extra person on the back, the bike will be much more easier to wheelie and flip over if you carry on accelerating, if this ever happens, rather than slamming off the throttle, start feeding in some rear brake pressively and do not touch the front brake until your front wheel is safely down and going straight, I have never had to do this in all my years so maybe someone might update my advice! 🤷♂️ ...and uphill will easier to wheelie so pillion hillstarts = extra careful 💁♂️👍 you got this!..🙌
You wont know if you dont f@#& around ✌️ bend those arms keep them relaxed lean forward grip that tank with your thighs knees practice those weaving left and right use those heels to grip those plates in the back use your body into your turns get you ready for knee dragging👌your passenger needs to ride with you using their own core doing what you do hands on shoulders or the tank
No license shenanigans? Over here, you gotta be over 20yo and have had the license for over 3 years. Otherwise, riding 2-up is a no-go on public roads. My co-worker was whining about a light front tire and handlebars shaking like crazy... due to not adjusting the rear shock stiffness and maybe increasing the tire pressure (info should be on the swing arm or underside of the seat). Wife and a topbox at the rear really didn't help matters, don't be like my co-worker 😅 And lol yeah, clinking helmets is one of the reasons I do not even consider carrying passengers.
In the U.S. there are no restrictions on a motorcycle license. There might be some restrictions if you're under 18, and that might depend on the state you got your license from, but if you're 18 and over you can go to the dealer and buy a Fireblade the day you get your license if you want....and some do. There is talk in some states about having a graduated licensing program like Europe has, but I don't know if that will gain any traction, given the tiny fraction of motorcycles on the road as compared to cars. Even if it does, it will only be state by state.
Can’t have a passenger with a permit, but as soon as you get your license it’s fair game. I did not particularly like it though and it probably won’t become a common occurrence…especially on the roads 😅
@@gaabbiio If I can do it so can you I said the same thing never going to happen took a year before I attempted it this was after I really got used to my bike then but I did it fyi its not something I do all the time 😸 I just wanted to know that I could

🫣 so far I’d rather ride in dirt than with a passenger LOL

I'm a big fan of pillions wearing open face helmets.
That not bonking heads struggle is real😅

Riding with a pillion is way beyond my current skills.
I still feel like it’s beyond mine too😅😂

All good things! Thanks dude!
I love this, thank you sooo much!
YOU’RE HERE!!! Lol love it 😂 thanks for sticking around and for the comment😚💜 How’s the riding going?
