I'm 43, been riding for 20 years. Tried to learn wheelies before RUclips, on and off, but never got good at them. I did have one good balance point wheelie, but it was on accident. I'm still on sport bikes and still chasing that skill. This is the most helpful video I've seen so far. I chased one out today, after watching your video last night, longest wheelie I've rode yet. Never too old to gain a new skill.
We are the same age, riding for 21 years. I’ve only done like 3 on the power getting on the highway, hitting a bump. Not on purpose. This is the best instruction I have ever seen online. I’m still on sport bikes, 1000RR.
My prayers were answered. After 3.5 years ive finally started practicing wheelies this week. Then the Brah posts a video... even on my EXACT BIKE. Down to the PAINT scheme and YEAR
Oops wheelies are super cool I saw a dude or maybe he was a Brah doing a wheelie stand up style on the interstate prolly doing a hundred or better he went for miles I mean miles on the rear wheel I was gong like 70 - 80 mph and he was leaving me in the dust....I don't wheelie just when bangin gears Lil baby wheelies between gears 🏍💨
I tried wheelies 6 mo ago by myself and looped my 400, but me and my buddy watched this 2 weeks ago and practiced for 4 hours and now we are popping it up and chasing clean 4-5 second wheelies around town effortlessly. Perfect tutorial. Slowly creeping up on balance point!
This is why I admit to watching this guy. Not the videos where he does 180mph without talking. I love how much fun he seems to be having on motorcycles, and teaching us how to have the same fun.
Body position is also key. I'm learning as well but my issue is that I'm leaning forward. As you can see in the slowmo @13:09 he is sitting straight instead of leaning forward. A buddy of mine said: Before you start a wheelie, tap the footbrake so your foot is there and tilt your head a little bit upwards (keeps you form looking down) and keep it there. It helped me a bunch. Later when you get higher you'll need to tilt your head downwards so you can see where you are going. Also I have a MT-07, and started in second gear about 50km/h = 30 mph. Keeps it a bit more stable and less loopable than first gear. But as he said; every bike is different. Oh and don't forget to pull the ABS fuse if your bike has it. It might interfere when you tap your rear brake if you want to get your bike back down. That's what I've been told anyway. Wheel speed difference front and back might mess up the ABS computer's thinking.
One thing I've wondered. I know u keep the bars straight coming down but let's say it's not perfect or the front wheel comes down at an angle. I see it alot especially in motogp. Do I just loosen the grip with my arms and let it straighten by itself? Will it send you into a wobble if it's not perfectly straight? Especially at higher speeds? Or Will it just correct itself
@@Gx60067it will likely correct itself as long as you don’t fight it. There is a risk of you getting speed wobbles of course especially if you slam it down but most of the time yeah it’ll just straighten out
Best advice ever...you're either on the gas, or the brake. Almost never on both simultaneously (this will somewhat change when learning slow idle work)
When learning, I started by riding the brake and slowly used less and less brake. Now I clutch up, catch it with the brake, and try to only use throttle to maintain BP and slow down slightly. Slowing down with just engine brake feels so weird. The slack in my chain and cush drive scares me into hitting the brake a lot.
I know gixxerbrah said this applies to all bikes but KEEP IN MIND.. As far as MT/FZ07's go... 1st gear wheelies do not need a clutch up because they are very torqy bikes. Practice just getting that wheel off the ground, then chase them out appply brake ect... and practice.. (only applies to my knowledge of the MT/FZ lineup.)
Were you in first or second? I have a 390 as well and found first gear came up wildly fast so I switched to second to make it more forgiving. Given you're going faster in 2nd so not that much safer but definitely smoother.
The Brazilian swing is because you're preloading the suspension. Even with low speed clutch ups, I tend to tap the front brake to do the same thing. Catch it on the way up with the clutch and it comes up with minimal added speed. Best thing is learning if you have access to a dirt bike, all the extra suspension and gearing really helps when learning.
Hell yeah great video brah, I very much relate to being that guy who is much better than the other friends in my group at wheelies, but still I am chasing them just barely while right around balance point. One thing that you didn't touch on that I think is important, is the actual hand motion of dumping the clutch. 1-2 fingers is going to be much better than using all four as you would when just coming to a stop normally. Quick, smooth motion of flicking the clutch out fast, instead of riding it out slowly like you are used to. When I learned and also helping others learn, this has been a common issue with beginners
For my 2014+ 636 owners, if you have ABS, do a slight burnout before starting to practice. Your ABS light will come on and then your bike will behave like the ABS is off without needing to pull the fuse. I call it "stunt mode" lol. This actually makes a lot of sense to me. As I mentioned earlier on other videos, I ain't big on wheelies but the little chase outs seem innocent enough. It's like a power wheelie but now you just force it up with the clutch and RPM rising. May go and try it a bit eventually, maybe, idk. 😆 Also the Brazilian Swing looks fun too was curious about that one too so glad you mentioned it here as well. And from my technical insights, I do think Jared and/or Gixxer brah are on point with the explanation of why it works the way it does. By leaning and so steering the bike, you lighten up the front end. Some super cool physics are in play regarding why the Brazilians lean the bike then flick it up. Because the outer circumference is smaller than the middle of the tire you are actually increasing rpm’s without increased throttle. Mike on bikes does a much better explanation on it than I but thought of it after hearing you ask why they do it.
Been riding about a year, had my dr650 for almost a year now (our anniversary is sept 12 lol) and I’m learning how to wheelie on my lunch breaks in my work parking lot. Great video, I’m excited to see how the increased throttle control and ability to lift the front end will help out my dirt game.
I watched the videos when you were helping yam. I got a little 125 pit bike to throw around and bust up. It's been fun learning. Now I need to practice more consistently
The biggest thing that helped me as well was to always try tapping the rear brake even on lower wheelies to get used to using the brake to bring it back down.
15:58 complete guess here. when you turn you dont ride the center of the tyre, you ride the side of it (more or less depending on the lean angle) and because it's v shaped the sides are of a smaller radius than the radius at the center. same speed but less radius = higher rpm so you dont need to rev as long because rpms go up quicker? idk tho, just a thought
Yes do POWER WHEELIES first. Is it a bit dangerous and uncontrolled, yes, but it’s better to learn throttle first in a power wheelie, then slowly learn foot brake by bringing it down wuick, then combine the two and try to do higher wheelied while holding it longer, and boom

Ive fixed it up to its beautiful self, and have done many wheelies since. The priblem is i csnt keep em up i get intimidated. I do all wheelies from second. Best ones are getting on the freeway.
My question is after all the blah blah is how do you pop em on thw freeway, people oull up next yo me wheb im doing like 70 and they just pop em and tske off??? Can i pop em in 3 or 4th judt release at a way higher RPM. I thinm you can see why i wouldnt wsnt to try THAT out, or are people dropping it down to second then popping up and going?
Got a DRZ400SM 3 months ago.
BOYS ITS TIME TO WHEELIE
NEW BRAH VIDEO LETS GOOOO
Thanks Mr Brah 💪.. I will be attempting this on my Ninja and posting it to RUclips in the near future.. Gona be poppin dank Nooners in no time 🤷♂️
Great instruction. Keep working my baby wheelies. Probably too low speed, 10 mph, 60t sprocket, 636.
All the videos on RUclips, this was the one that led me to success. 20 min Denver tutorial next pls
Ur at the spot I first learned to do a j turn, 360, taught many guys how to drive manual there, got some late night cheeks there, that’s THE SPOT
If you don't mind me asking. what's the spot? I'm from FW and have been looking for a place like this?
Literally started wanting to wheelie yesterday perfect timing
Hello from Aus 😁 nice vid Brah
GixxerBrah, you make my day when you post😂 I love ur videos, keep it up brah (get it?)❤
Omg looped my bike tryna wheelie and didn't know it wasn't coming down cuz of abs!!! Thanks!
Totally gonna do this. Wheelies prove I'm a good rider.
Would you recommend 2nd gear clutch up on a z900 to learn? Or start with 1st gear?
First gear keep it slow until you get comfortable at 100mph on the back tire
Yo as someone who owns and wheelies a z900 you definitely want to be in SECOND not first. You try and do this in 1st and you will be on your back. Way to twitchy and torquey its much easier and safer to do in second.
@@nickdaly69yeah second gear for sure
Second gear for sure
I’ve always seen the little Brazilian lean pop up thing but I never knew it actually made the bike easier to get up
They all gonna Loop now ! 😂
Probably lol
Bro the ninja 400 is legit!
Everyone is trying to get on the 1k but can barely corner properly 😂. People sleep on the 400 on the fun scale!
The leans preload suspension braahs
These are great videos. The high speed ones are great too….. just not on crowded highways.
The 400 is faster than one would think. Buddy had one. He is 20lbs smaller than me, but his 400 could keep up with my k7 600 until I hit 3rd gear.
Brah casually flexing his personal warehouse
Brah I just rode a 636 for the first time, first 600 just parked his bike after the ride, walked in and I have a custom curated vid by you😂 take it easy brah luvvv u
Instuctions were very unclear flipped by turbo charged hayabusa at 300 mph
😂
I need some wheelie school
Definitely
I was at an intersection the other day and dropped the clutch trying to do some launch practice on my r3. If you're wondering if an r3 can do this, an r3 and put the front wheel 5' up pretty ez. Don't forget - it has a 13k redline 😂 and now I'm here
Can't get my Harley to rev 8k, what am I doing wrong?
Maaaan I really wanna learn so I can finally shut my friend up but like you said, risking the daily just isn't worth it lol
Great video brah.
Does anyone know where the ABS fuse is located on the 2023 Ninja 400? I want to yank it out and try it. Thanks
3:00 you make it look and sound so easy!
Going to apply this to my 900 lb harley touring bike brb
lol good luck 😂😂
We need a how to on how to do a stopie!!!
