Holy crap took the trials bike out in the yard for 10 min today and was getting the front wheel 2x higher and traveling 6-10 feet :) Thank You !!!!

Man I was decent on a bike and could wheelie great on a ttr 125, 230, and even a CBR 600rr street bike. That was almost ten years ago now I'm 33 and picked up a cfr450r a week ago and I didn't realize what I got myself into man I was too confident instead of humbling myself and getting a 230/250. I'm also 6'2 and 260 so I didn't want to get too small of a bike. My overconfidence wrote me a check my damn balls can't cash 🤣 this 450 ain't nunn nice and refuses to be tame

For anyone who needs a visual: What angle do you have to balance a stick? Straight up and down, like this L -> l What angle do you have to balance a V? Straight up and down but the left and right arms are lower. Close up, you are like the l. Sitting back with arms out, you are like the V. 10:25
The more you are forward with your body, the more concentrated the weight distribution is, so it's easier to wheelie over and the overall filling is zippier. The more you are leaning backward- the mass distribution is WIDER, so the balance point IS wider too... It's called "Moment of inertia"! Great video!

I learned a long time ago, but I will tell you, if I had one of those bikes, I would be more confident. I learned on a CRF 250 and was scared of it falling on top of me. 😂
A lot of good tips in here. A big breakthrough for me was to look straight ahead when popping up (rather than down at the bike) and waiting for the bars to come into view before tapping the rear brake to bring it back down. Then I gradually started looking up a bit higher.

Best wheelie video so far! Best advice I can give is exactly what you say. Start with the foot on the rear brake. Pop up and then brake. And this is gonna feel reeeeally weird, but you can brake AND be on the throttle. You want to pop straight to balance, then keep a smooth steady throttle, and brake as you need it. I’m still trying to perfect it. I got a ABS wheelie bar on my WR250R and it’s the perfect machine to learn.

I find when I’m doing wheelies that I don’t really use by back break unless I’m really about to go over but I mainly use my clutch to bring the front end to where I want it. It took me a few tries falling of the back to understand where the balance point is and to realize that I can bailout onto my feet to build some confidence. Great video! It’s alsways good to watch what other people do to see what I can do better 🤙🏼
Dude I've watched alot alot of RUclips videos of ppl teaching other ppl how to wheelie and none of them have done like u those other guys all they say is pick it up put it down with the rear break practice that they say but they don't explain everything else unlike you my man you are a great teacher and one thing I like is that your explaining everything great job and thanks 👍💪💯

Even on my 250 I do that. Even tho it power wheelies through 3rd without a problem with the right seating position... I think IM scared because I'm 5'8 on a big bike learning to wheelie and it's so high up there lol
i wouldve love to have seen you pointing out that the pivot point is the back axle, keeping the left foot planted next to it provides the stability to hold the bike still. keeping the left foot at the axle also give the brain a direct orientation (of bike angle vs body angle vs gravity/momentum angle) which can help train the inner sense of balance and balance muscles. also wouldve loved to see the focus be on getting him up to balance point and back down with the right foot on the brake the whole time, doesnt matter the distance. that aside a very nice video, great job for improvised instructions
Talking about counterintuivity ™: To avoid the tendency to pull the handlebar towards you and lean forward with your head to your chest when lifting the front wheel, the MTB Schools here teach you to initiate a wheelie/manual by going into the attack position, compress the suspension and then lift the front wheel by actively pushing the handlebar away from you. You would think that by doing so you push the front into the ground instead of lifting it up but it works like a charm and you are automatically and inevitably in the right backward position with your arms extended. I find it works even better on a motorbike because you have motor power/clutch to help with the lift…

On a bike without a clutch- 1. Put it in first gear. 2. Press shifter down about 1/2" where you're still in first gear but can rev like your in neutral. 3. Rev bike an slip foot off side of the shifter... It's the same as dumping the clutch.
I bet if he would have tried after watching videos of himself on grass he could have got it first try. Concrete really does have a massive mental block for a lot of people even for just learning to ride. I think I may have been doing that same thing bending my elbows in my wheelies my whole life. I’ve always had trouble with slower wheelies because I could do good almost balanced power wheelies but now I’m thinking it was always just power and gearing lol. Thanks man great video

The enthusiasm alone is intoxicating, it is *amazing* how great of an instructor you are. I am trying to learn on a 94' klx650 and I am terrified that the thing that weighs twice what I do will fall on me and me/it breaks something. I am 5'8" and I can't touch the ground without doing that sideways thing that we short people have to do (Yes stopping/going is a pain). With that I am having to just send it and hope my instincts come through while watching your video with my phone mounted to the handle bars for emotional support.
I just bought myself a 2021 yz250fx and I really wish I could start doing wheelies been riding for over 10 years just got into some Hare scrambles and this was a great thing to watch for wheelies

Wheelie Advice I’ve been riding for about 4 years now and would really appreciate some advice, tips, tricks, theories for wheelies. For reference - I ride a exc f 250. I am comfortable and confident with back brake and have no issue getting the bike up to 12 o clock. My strategy for learning: I start from a stop. 1st gear. Left foot down. I can consistently get it up to balance point and can often ride them out. The struggle: I can’t seem to play the hit balance, brake, tap throttle, balance, brake, tap throttle game. This is causing me to bring the bike down way too soon. Am I supposed to hold the throttle the entire time snd just tap the brake instead ? Do you utilize the clutch at all while the bike is up? Should I be doing this in different gears? Should I lower or increase my rev limiter? Any advice for how to ride these slow controlled wheelies out would be massively appreciated. Thank you!

@316Speedshop Big as your ass is you should be able to handle a 450 for what you using it for. 16 year old race them that's 5'7 170 pounds.
Pull in clutch, shift into first, pin the throttle and dump the clutch. 100% guaranteed you will wheelie 👍
Or even do a somersault if your lucky

Yep, kept bringing that head and upper body forward. Thats a common mistake in any technique. Weight comes from your hips not your chest and head.
