- Ever wanted to learn how to wheelie a motorcycle? I spent the day with Ryan and Paul from Next Level Wheelie School doing just that at their fantastic location in Cotswolds airport. They teach 2nd gear clutch up wheelies and take you from virgin newcomer to wheelie-God (unless you're me!)
It's a great day out and loads of fun, I was just getting to grips with the throttle and clutch control at the end of the day, so will just have to go back for more.

Hi Bruce as I’m nearing 60 I struggle to get it up and I find it hard to go for long, that said I’m quite good at wheeling my mt09.
😂👍👏
MT09's love to get it up! And spin the rear at the same time in my experience...
Between two cars when the idiot in his box on my right tried to push me out the way!
😂
Dump some viagra in your tank? 😆 🤣
Lol
This is exactly what I need: A bike that belongs to someone else (with their permission), so I can get over my hangups about abusing my own!
Buy a used cheap bike
Hope this helps. You bike isn't made of glass. People lay their bikes +100 mph at track days every weekend. You probably already plan on changing parts out for aftermarket parts. Before you do that go ahead and learn to be the be the best rider you can on your bike before you fix it up.
There is just something poetic about an ex-Police officer going to wheelie school! Glad you're having fun!
Ha Ha 😂👍
@@teapotone Just out of curiosity, do they ever bother you about your content? Try to get you back for choosing your passion over them? If it's personal or don't want to talk about it, I understand.
Safety head on, it's hard to switch it off.
Mrs T, enjoyed doing the laundry this week!!😯
If I had a pound for every time I heard "You can get it up, but it's just getting it to last longer you need to work on..."
I’m 30 and have been terrified for the last 3 years to wheelie because I’ve been riding alone. This video motivated me to get up , get out and wheelie something 😅 thank you for this 🎉
Bone Thugs and Harmony
Did a wheelie school some years ago. Biggest take aways for me were quick flick on the clutch (or simple power up wheelies), but mostly, more than anything, was sitting your arse back. That makes all the difference
It’s not every day that you’ll find a guy watching other guys try to get it up 😂 but honestly I wish there were a school like this near me! Great stuff!
I love the progression and positive attitude as you improve and don't get too discouraged as you hit difficulty.
This is because he is of an age that knows that not all things you want come easily. 👊
This is the video ive needed. Seeing a new person attempting wheelies with professionals. I tried doing some today and i see exactly what i was doing wrong. Will try again tomorrow to see if i can get it
Never been interested in doing wheelies but I do love it on the odd back roads when you get that front end lift without trying as you come up over little brows hard on the throttle.
For your 1st serious go at 2nd gear clutch up’’s you did well matey. Unfortunately will take a bit of practice 😉. Biggest struggle for me was overcoming not enough throttle. Think about catching just enough torque from the clutch to get the wheel ~3 foot in the air, then roll into it. Helps with 1st gear power wheelies too 🙂
Easier method consists of one step:
Step#1 - Buy Superduke 1290r
😁
😂👏👍
Nice real world wheelie session for starters. Liked!
Thanks Melvin 👍
I love how much fun you, had and slowly progressing. All while still respecting the power of the machine. Well done.
This video made me smile and frustrated at the same time. I've tried to teach this technique to lots of people with poor results. A few people get it but most don't. I learned on my own when I had my first bike and slowly progressed to where I'm at today. I've wheelied just about every bike I've ridden. Usually only takes one or two tries on a new bike. I'm also able to shift gears while on one. It's such a cool feeling once you can hold it for a while. Keep on trying people and don't crash !
What a fantastic video, thank you! I think besides the inherent fear of looping the bike that you mentioned, one thing that's holding me back is that if I _do_ wreck, I've lost my primary mode of transportation, at least until it's repaired.
Love it. Wheelies will never get old for me 👍🏼
Looks fun. I've been riding for 50-years and always wanted to know how to wheelie.
Hats off to you Bruce, top draw for having a go and I can relate to it being an unattractive feeling; wheelies just feels odd and yes, I call myself a biker even though I’ve not wheelies for a couple of decades!!!👍🤣👌
Loved it! Watching that brought back the laughs we had on the day. Even got Mrs Yox doing the "Nashnulls" whilst filming.
You could definitely see your progress through the day Bruce and on your second visit you'll already be at the starting blocks for some extra length.....oooosh,
😂👍
Great vid man! This is reality.. takes A Lot of practice to just get a smooth power wheelie.
At the start of every season it feels like two steps forward and one step back, i have to re-learn my wheelie comfort zone
Best video tutorial for beginners, many thanks
I would be exactly the same Bruce! I think I got my knee down twice? In 20+ years of riding and I don't think I ever pulled a proper wheelie in all that time either. Top job giving it a go.
Looks like a really fun day out
This is awesome! The positive energy is spilling out of the screen!
Looks like a cracking day had by all👌🏽👍🏽
Great Video Bruce! i did the Yamaha Wheelie School and that was the same and taught me the basics, but instead of using the clutch they focused on the balance aspect... I went away from that and started practicing on "private land" & the BIGGEST & HARDEST part to nailing it is telling your hand not to drop the throttle when the front lifts... you tell yourself everytime and then your hand does it on its own... once that connection is made you can focus on the balance!
Ha Ha aye it’s infuriating isn’t it - every blooming time I cut the throttle?! 🤦♂️
Teach me.
Looks like this is the best wheelievideo out there. Proper explanation and a demonstration that it takes more than a few tries and that that is normal.
I've been looking forward to this one. Great effort, Bruce. Wheelies are my next step so I'll be looking to book a session with these guys.
I wish we had something like this where I live ! Looks so fun
is right brother i learnt on my zx6r watching you
great fun and good lads running it
Great school,great video.Thks.
i just got mt-09, plenty torque and 2nd gear just pull handlebar and twist throttle at the same time,so smooth,
baning clutch for me is pointlees, powerwheelie the best and safe :)
Definitely fancy giving that a go.. it looks like wheelie good fun
Drop ‘Next Level Wheelie School’ a line then, they’ll keep you right 👍
Mint, would love to do one of these days!
That was a hoot! Split my sides laughing. Wish we had something like that where I live. Always wanted to learn it, but I'm a big chicken
Ha Ha thanks bud, it’s a cracking day out and so much fun!
Chuffed you enjoyed the vid 👍
Was literally talking to the Mrs yesterday about booking one of these days, perfect timing!
It’s a cracking day bud, loads of fun 👍
great video Bruce has always 👍😉
Great video best wheelie tutorial I've seen
Thanks very much Mark 👍
Great video been thinking about doing a day like that for a bit now
hi bruce,i have just applied for a job in a dealership for a major german motorcycle company,if i get it i will be the happiest man in the universe, the icing on the cake is if i do i get a free bike!!!!
Did the same course at the Scottish Wheelie School up in Crail last week! I shared your frustrations but its a good feeling when you nail them..We all get there in the end some a bit better than others...it was great fun. Nice one Bruce.
Cheers Les 👍
Always love to pop up wheelie on my 650f
I learned how to wheelie on my bicycle and then I tried it on my dirt bike and they are 2 very different machines. I looped the first try😂
It's same going dirt bike to sport bike. Totally different machines.
Interesting watching your throttle hand - you seem to back off once the front is off the ground. Looks great fun to do in a safe environment (on someone else's bike)
Love it guys 👍🏼👊🏼😎
Am I the only one who thought I was seeing double when the video started? 😂
Doughnuts - the before and after 😂
hope you had spear pants 🤣🤣🤣, i kept laughing through out the clip, your analysis is spot on
Great to see an older 'mortal' trying this !
So cool when you got it up the first time.
😂😳
That's what she said
Love it! Great video👍
The wheelie machine is safe and good to practice on would be a good video to see
Thought about going on one of these days but just havn't got round to it yet. Cheers for sharing Bruce.
No bother, it’s a great fun day 👍
Great video man. I wish they had a wheelie school here in New York 😅 I’m so use to doing power wheelies I’m terrified of the clutch wheelie 😂
That looked a huge wedge of fun, I can't wheelie for toffee, even on my dirtybike... I def think something like this should be added to my "to do" list :-) Ty Bruce :-)
Thanks bud, it’s a top, top day - LOADs of fun! 👍
@@teapotone looked it mate 👍
Fair play for trying something that I wouldn’t necessarily correlate with yourself, practice makes perfect 👌
Ha Ha you’ve never been riding with me have you😉
"Martin's plan is to carry the length. And I'm just happy getting it up."
Are we even talking wheelies anymore? XD. Great video lads.
I'm trying to wheelie my 600 and it's pretty hard, it's nice to see some folks struggling too.
Loved this one Bruce. Had to watch it twice!!!
Ha nice one Bob, cheers!
Can you watch it another 867,459 times please?
Ta muchly 😉👍
🤣
Ah.....dreaming of the old RZ, loved to live on its rear wheel.
Ha Ha yeah it’s got some ‘poke’ hasn’t it 👍
That looked frustrating for you Bruce but you were getting there
You're doing well for just a day of training. It took me couple of months doing power wheelies and on one of the afternoon i lift it a lot higher and managed to shift gears. The hardest part for me was the clutchups, it took about three weeks of frustration then got the timing right. Now I'm one wheel most of the time 😂
😂👍
You have to teach me.
Great video and congrats for your progress. Unfortunately i can’t join because i’m from Chile, i’d like to try alone, will see what happen.
What you need to do is slow mo your wheelies just like Dickie Vegas!!!! 😄😄
😂😉
I live nearby and have been pondering for a while now whether or not to go there and do this after some unplanned wheelies on my R1. It would be nice to be able to do them at my own will in a controlled way
When the camera was facing the front wheel my head was pulling the bike up for you 🤣 takes time mate
Great video!
Brilliant pal looks epic, im in ireland. Would love these guys to come my way
I've got the same era ZX9r, still in it's awesome sport bike guise Y2k E1. Might be a little easier with the extra torque available 🤔😁
Looks great fun
Have I had too much beer... I'm seeing double Bruce!
😂
Oh man I have been doing it all wrong. I have been holding the clutch all the way in. Reving it up 2 or 3 times then dropping the clutch when it peaks in RPM. These guys are just hitting the clutch in and out for only a second
Great video Bruce, wish I could wheelie
Cheers Simon, check out Next Level Wheelie School then bud and give it a go 😉👍
man your failed wheelies teached me so much!!!! I tried only once for like 10 minutes and i did the same "mistake".
When you pull in the clucthch quick do you trotle at same time quick releasing clucth or you just stay at steady speed ?
Wheelie good vid Bruce
Very good 👏👏👏👍
im going to go to one of these schools. this makes so much sense. i was only confident doing it on my 600 after i opened it up on some farm roads and learned what full throttle felt like.
i have been bouncing the throttle i will try these tiny clutch pops this looks like a good way to do it. i will also try in second bc i dont like to overreach the throttle in first and max revs usually and its not cool having my resting arm position as full throttle 😅 keep putting it down and still doing 30 and trying to lift up again lol.
lol sore hands are real. ill take these dude's advice into account, they said don't do it in first gear so ill stop. its so much power it wants to backflip tbh 😂😂
Nice to see you finally got it up in the end Bruce. Fun vid to watch 👏 Warren (mototrev)
Cheers Warren,
Ha Ha aye we managed eventually eh! 👍😉
Loved that keep up the good work ☝️🏍🇬🇧🏍🥰
Cheers 👍
My friend is really good at wheelie and he told me the best way to learn, is to go up and hit the rear brake, this way you start to control the wheelie thru the rear brake instead of panicking and cutting the gas
Just watch you don’t blow your fork seals 👍
@@teapotone is part of the learning process hahahah
Brilliant I’ve watch this thought I’d watch again
Cheers Steve
@@teapotone I’ve started getting front end up on twin Africa when u done it few time ur wrists sort instantly goes to position where u know it pops up u know what I me eh mate love see a follow up from this have u been practicing after this mate
@@teapotone just sent u pic on Facebook mate
Great vlog Bruce 👍
Thanks Martin 👍
I was willing your front wheel up through that vid!!
I reckon a night off, couple of beers and few hours sleep and you'd have nailed it on day 2
Thanks for this video - I had no idea this was available! I've just gone on their website to reserve a session and they're fully booked - damn it!
Drop them a line, tell them you saw my vid and ask if they can put you on a reserve list, in case there are any cancellations 😉👍
Yes, I got a cancellation the very next week after this vid, plus they also throw in extra dates if they can book the airfield so worth contacting them 👍
Space available this Friday!
Really great video!
Thanks bud 👍
Bloody hell these guys are only 20 miles from me - I need to save some pennies and get myself booked up. I'd be panicking before I even dip the clutch! I think a very useful addition to a day like this would be datalogging... so you can compare your throttle action against an ideal throttle trace... logging wheelie height and length would be pretty awesome too!
Hahaha everytime he got a nice start he dumped the throttle and shit hisself. :'-D Still fun to do and a good learning moment. ;-)
I’ve been practicing wheelies as well , but I’ve torn a muscle on my right forearm while trying, not with falling , it’s harder than it looks tho
This is amazing! If they ran a program like that here cops would be all over it, shaking their heads saying "as if we need a school to teach people how to misbehave MORE on their motorcycles" 😂😂😂
Brucey!!! You make me wanna do one of these days! You handled your frustration well... I'd probably have thrown a paddy haha.
Go for it Kate, sure you’ll smash it 👏👍
@@teapotone literally knowing me 😅
😂👍
Another cracking vlog TP👍 PS. What were those wire contraptions around the back of the rear wheel? Do they stop the bike flipping
Thanks Neil.
Yes mate they’re linked to the engine and can be set at varying degrees of angle - allowing for the front to be raised higher or lower depending on the riders experience/confidence.
When they make contact with the road they cause the power to be cut off and the front comes down.
This was a fun vid. Looks like you had a wheelie good time mate. 😬
🤦♂️ Cheers bud 😂👍
Death or Glory, love it, great video and listening to the excitement in your voice 👌🏻👍🏻
Thanks Scott 👍
@@teapotone Have you gotten any better or given up 👍🏻
Must admit, I’ve not tried a wheelie since😬🤦♂️
@@teapotone Your excitement in the video makes me feel eager to give it a go, but I feel I’ll never try it again either 🤣👍🏻
Top effort Bruce!! I hope you don't leave it there. You've got to go back and perfect it!!!
I agree! 😁 Bruce would definitely last longer second time around.
🤣 First date syndrome . maybe a try a hand shandy before hand👍
@@adamking6419 😂 now I have visions of The Inbetweeners with Simon after Jay giving him the exact same advice (shudders) 😂
👌👍
Looks n sounds like, they have the idle speed way up 2000 rpm at least . Are there big sprockets on them as well?
So wish we had something like that where i live, i so want to learn to wheelie. Good for you for trying and great video for us “wheelie king wanna be’s”
Ha ha thanks Kiwi👍
Wheelie wheelie good Bruce 🤣👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
😂👍
Loved the laughing lol. I've just had track pack put on my GT to help me do this, the problem though us whether I have big enough gonads
“Death or Glory”
😉😂👍
@@teapotone I think you used all your 9 lives lol. See you on 19th Bruce and expect to see you arrive on the back wheel lol
😂👍
I think he was just Rolling off the throttle. It takes a bit of crazy to keep it up, or even keep lifting. I'm a power "accidental" wheelie guy now, but I'd love to learn to control it. It's not always bad, it's a good skill to have.
Just remember the #1 rule when doing wheelies, COVER YOUR REAR BRAKE
No. Rule 1 is don't do it near the police. easy licence killer. 🤣 🤣 🤣
Use the brake
