Did you say those bottle rockets going off - 放炮 的 声音, sounded like Chicago? Well, I did not know that Chicago also celebrated Chinese New Year's like that ... or were you insinuating actual guns going off w/o stopping in Chiraq? ... haha. That was done in bad taste! So where were you from in the States? Don't ever say West Virginia, where eating possum is still a delicacy ... feel me!
Thank you for sharing. Wish you an enjoyable stay in China! 🌹
Thank you for taking us along Katherine. Bless you! Happy New Year of the Rabbit.
Great video that catches the mood of Chinese New Year really well. Thank you very much.
Happy CNY khatherine 💥💥💥
The dogs are adorable.
Hi Kathrine, Happy Chinese New Year to you. By the way, where is your husband? It's been quite a while we didn't see him in your video.
Great video, love it very much.👍❤️😍🧨🧧👏
Thank you and your friends for sharing their experiences. I’m curious , I read the Chinese New Year celebration last 16 days, so does your friends and family pop fireworks and eat special dinners each of those days?
It’s mostly just the first two days and the last day (lantern festival) that have special celebrations
@@kats_journey_east It is similar in Malaysia, except for 2 extra days, the 7th day, which is everyone's birthday and the 8th night, where the people of Fujian or Min Nan dialect pray at midnight with a roast pig as the 9th day is really their 1st day of new year.
Great rabbit new year.
👍👍👍
Amazing video ❤
no herbicide veges made with a wood fire stove is the best. kung hei fat choi! it's day 15 today, hope you got to eat some tangyuan~ lol, those bang snaps i used to snap between my fingers when i was little. they don't hurt much once you get used to the shock factor.
Who's kung hei fat choi? If he is fat, please ask him to go on a diet, okay?😂😂😂
happy new year
Go to the Northeast to try the “Swine Slaughter Feast” or 杀猪菜 prepared by Wang's household~
哈哈😂鞭炮声持续不断😂

With all the fireworks, 🎇 I can only think of the pollution 😬
Uncle Zhao is a hoarder, but a neat one, at least.
Lol
The difference in Chicago someone get hurt while in China the hearing of the fireworks is the celebration for thousand of years to feel the ambiance of Joy to welcome of the coming of the New Year ...Unfortunatley in the State they have banned from having this Chinese New Year celebration ....
3:27 "feels like i'm in Chicago" that's way too dark LOL

Yeah, that kid is cute!
He gonna grow up handsome
You are my favorite youtuber these day. I can't speak Mandarin, but your sounds really authentic and even a bit smart ass at times. The internet really needs footage of China and rural China and everyday people when the media is getting so crazy. these are wholesome and funny and culturally enriching. Thank you
Well said mister 👏
Thank you for being honest and sharing the beautiful people of China. The beautiful food. The beautiful cultures. The beautiful people. Just like us. We're all here just trying to share, trying to survive and trying to live another wonderful day.

This was one of the most authentic things I saw on RUclips recently. I never expected to see someone traveling through China and showing everything. As a Brazilian, it's hard to imagine a life there, but it makes me feel more curious and interested in visiting one day.
welcome to China
Welcome to China, and yes, Brazil is the most far country to China, you need 3 10+ hours flight to get there.
welcome to china, you will know who is the lier once you visit China
Let us realize how disgusting the 365-day hysterical lies of the United States are
@@kinggggray3388 let us not polarize everything into the good guys vs the bad guys, it is also disgusting and a hysterical lie.
Loved it! It is my dream to be in rural China during the new year spring festival and play with all kinds of firecrackers and enjoy amazing food. I can feel the richness of the Chinese culture by watching your videos. Thanks and cheers from the frozen land of Canada
中国欢迎你
❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Welcome to China
Unfortunately, many provinces in China now prohibit setting off firecrackers😂
Happy Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day, Miss Katherine. 🐇🧧
Very authentic celebration you had in China. And I don’t know whether it is illegal to shoot fireworks in the sky by ourselves? I heard sounds of it during midnight, which I almost could not sleep the entire night.
之前有段时间城市禁止燃放烟花爆竹,农村不限制,今年春节城市也不禁止了。
Certain metropolitan areas banned it. But China is vast.
今天深圳还有人在放呢 我都听到了
Thank you for this lovely episode, Kat. As always it's like being there sharing the experience with you. Wishing you all the best in the year of the rabbit.
this is such a wonderful experience oh how I wish I could experience this beautiful celebration in China! ❤The village looks prosperous and well planned
1:44 Even in Romania, we have the same tradition with loud noises and fires to "drive away evil spirits". I guess at some point they're all connected. Happy New Year!
Glad you enjoyed yourself in the village during CNY. Chinese villages in Malaysia celebrate CNY in the same way too except that we don't play firecrackers so much. Thanks for sharing a wonderful video. Gong Xi Fa Chai.
From Québec you are so lucky to be in China away from all the negative stuff going on everywhere else. I hope my visa will be re-activated this year and I can go back in October. Thanks for the videos.

Wow! Fantastic video, as usual. Your host family is truly nice and this new year celebration was so well organised. I wish you a very Happy Chinese New Year!! Thank you very much for sharing ⚘
Dami has such a great personality 😂
yes, absolute precocious and he doesn't even know it's funny for adults to watch!
Wow, especially love this video! it brings back so much great memories. I left rural south China 31 years ago for Australia with I was 9. Now I have kids of my own with a 5 and a 8 yo, I would love to take them back to experience the joy and excitement similar to my childhood years. I hope that I can take them back to China to visit our village to experience the rural village life.

Great video Kat! Wonderful and exciting lives of folks in rural China during CNY! 🐰🐰🐰
You made the most Chinese Chinese new year video without a single dancing lion. Good job. Happy Chinese new year to you.
dancing lion is only popular in southern region of China
Yeah southern is popular a lion dancing. But in northern also have lion dancing too. It just the different kinda a lion dance.
There are lion dances in the south and north. There are also dragon dances in the south. It is very popular in Guangxi.
Watching this on the 15th and final day of new year's celebration. Time flies when you're having fun.
Happy CNY Katherine. Truly truly awesome, thanks for showing us how the rural folks celebrate their CNY. 👍👍👍
This really makes us those who couldn't go home for Chinese New Year missing home more :(
Kids love those small firecrackers here in Brazil too
Thanks for this video.
It’s customary for Chinese people to make a lot of noise when celebrating- meaning joy & happiness. If celebrating quietly, live a graveyard, it’s not joyous.
Happy New Year to you all
Thanks Katherine, As an offspring of Chinese myself, I really don't know the Red story of China until your little kid told me. I just thought red is official symbol of China. You should wear red outfit as well. Happy Chinese New Year to you and your beloved family in China.
Red is a colour loved by the Chinese culturally. Red colour symbolizes good luck especially during CNY. It’s taboo to wear black during cny. The more red the better during CNY A
I am such a city person that I find the amount of explosives rural China use to celebrate the New Year to be rather unnerving 😅 And CCTV owes you a medal for being a Spring Gala die hard fan. Happy CNY!
今年城市也很夸张,天天放炮,从早到晚,直到元宵。(听同事们说天津从元旦放到元宵后)
That's a cute little tour guide ya got there. He speaks so fast I could hardly catch what he said.
The evening program is broadcast to my country live every year same time. I also never miss it every year while waiting for the fireworks at midnight.
Unfortunately rain did also dampen out the fireworks here too.
It was suppose to be a fireworks gallore this year as it has been permitted to be sold after a long ban.
The change in governance lifted the ban literally days before CNY. Somehow people still managed to sell and buy some in time. As for me, I sort of was oblivious of the lifting of the ban and didn't get any.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed they would continue next year.
Tell you something, a CNY is not exciting nor happiest without fireworks and children(the more the merrier).
I just love to play fireworks with young children around the ages of 6 onwards, they are just so happy the vibe spreads to you.
Happy CNY Katherine, CNY is all about family.
You are more than friend in this family.
You are family in China.
Sorry you missed out on the fireworks this year , hope you can enjoy them next year , they really do add a lot to the new year vibe 🎆
Happy 元宵节 Katherine~🐰Dami is so cute, he definitely knows alot of history👦 and I think Niuniu missed u alot!🐶

the huge greenhouse is a wonderful way to grow fresh fruit and veg in the city. the fireworks are beautiful.

It brings back memories when I was in Taiwan many years ago. I am a rabbit. So guessing my age is a multiplication question. I am too Americanized now, just happened I was on a Princess cruise ship in the Caribbean on CNY day. Dinner was served with Chinese dumplings(煎餃子) as an appetizer for the occasion.
This is such a fun video. It embodies everything u want to feel and enjoy during Chinese New Year. Thanks Katherine.
This is one of the best videos on your channel, ever. When I see things like that, it gives me warmth to the idea that everyone in the world is the same when it comes to family and culture, although the US would like people to think anyone not following the American way of doing things is illegitimate.
阳离子在她的视频里不讨论,不评论,不触碰政治话题。我们都尊重一下吧。Kat does not discuss, comment on, or touch on political topics in her videos. Let's all respect it.
This is what has made me think negatively of the U.S. these days. I am getting sick of how the U.S. paints a very negative picture of China or any country that doesn't follow the U.S. style of government.
Everyone have the right to live in this beautiful ❤️ world regardless their culture, language, religion, or colours, but the American rulers thinks they are the superiors n all the others are under them, n the American rulers forgot they are the highest debts in the world 🌎. N if they pay their debits, america will be the poorest country in this world 🌎.

I can't stop laughing at the CONSTANT fireworks!! LMAO I nearly lost it when there's all those fireworks and then the auntie goes "we're gonna set off more fireworks, and then we'll have dinner" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 If I'm ever in rural China for Chinese New Year, I feel like I won't be able to stop laughing from all the fireworks going off! Funny how Katherine mentioned Chicago because I lived in West Oakland for YEARS and I never heard anything even close to this. And actually, setting off fireworks was usually a pretty quick way to get the cops chasing you, even on the nights the Warriors won the NBA Championships.

(7:49) The CCTV Spring Festival Extravaganza is a must watch program in the freezing North-East provinces. The further down south, the warmer the winter weather, the less people watch it. In southern provinces like Guangdong, Guangxi & Hainan, after the big meal people can go outdoors and check out other fun activities. These days audience participation in the south is down to 2-3%. In a large country like China, traditional practices are diverse and cultural preferences are far from homogeneous. The core idea of Spring Festival shared by all Chinese is family gathering, taking a break from work, collecting year end bonuses, having fun, and getting ready for another year. Anthropologically, people everywhere are very much alike as they respond to the changing seasons.
man, that little kid knows everything!
The boy is veeery cute and articulate. 😀
In ancient China mythology, there was a monster named Nian, who came out to eat people on the last day of every year. Later, people found that this monster was afraid of fire, explosion and red things, so people in China burned bamboo to make noise and put red paper on the door to drive away the monster. Slowly, these methods of driving away the monster became entertainment activities in the New Year.😂
