Yes, he was korean, but Oyama was his real and official name (maybe not his former name which was Choi Yeong-Eui, but he preferred to be called Choi Bae Dal to reflect his origin), all resident foreigners at the time were required to adopt a japanese name and that's why Choi Bae Dal had to change the name most of us know him for. Greetings from the Dominican Republic. OSU!
It has been sixteen years since he died... But he's still alive in the hearts of all his students, and their students. He's still alive in the hearts of all Martial Artists. Thank you so much for opening the door for us, O'Sosai, Thank You for giving us the chance of being better and stronger people!Domo arigato gozaimashita! Osu Sosai!
Oyama practiced Kata's regularly as we can see in this video. Now days kata is disregarded for the most part, and that's a big mistake. I got chills seeing Oyama do Tekki Shodan. I've practiced that Kata a bit.
the song of 0:50 it's "Spectres in the fog", by Hans Zimmer , The last samurai OST, like Kyousuke687 says. The first one, I'm not sure.. but I think it's from The last samurai too Osu!! Sosai
I really don't get the part with the sword, isn't the idea of attacking a candle with a sword to slice the wick just below the flame, not to chop a big hunk off the candle? I do and love Kyokushin, but the candle trick leaves me scratching my head every time.
The fact that he lifted weights and actually made his body stronger makes him more legit than most others of his time.
He lifted weight more so for aesthethic reasons not mainly for strength
@@nazgulbarakas5767 where did you hear that? According to his wikipedia, he believed physical training to be an essential part of kyokushin.
@@dxcSOUL it's a quote from Mas oyama! He said "lifting weights will not make you strong" just search up the quote!
