    The "student" who is his sparring demonstrator is getting hit with "bites of pain" and thrown all over....
    but he's likely a black belter himself - and still he winces when the master demonstrates his deadly moves
    - a sign of exceptional jolts of pain. My hats off to the "student".
    Just light touches and there's already such intense pain = deadly.
    I respect the humility and deadly experience shown between master practitioners here. Thank you for sharing.

    Finally! A master using a weapon as a prop instead of the center! How utterly wonderful! No one I talk with understands that all of life-especially the fighting arts-is dance. If you can dance spontaneously, anywhere, on any surface, under any environmental stress, misfortune, or threat of destruction, you've achieved mastery. That's what Musashi was going on about. Thanks so much for posting this.

      That's a wonderful statement if pertaining to dance class at the promenade, however, Everything about this video in regards to actual fight techniques is nothing short of fodder that further exploits Steven as nothing more than a nostalgic 80s montage and this instructor as a loon leaning towards getting some poor kid killed in a street fight while trying to wrestle a head like a volley ball or whatever that jargon was intended to portray.

      Neat, 45 minutes after Steven walked out of his establishment he likely spread the little known "fact" that Segall taught him the very move he needed to know to become 10th Dan forever putting Sensei in his debt.. 😄
      This is a prime example of Steven carving a layer of respect off the bar by just being present.
      It's ok, Steven had a few years of globetrotting and fooling the world into believing that he was actually something more than delusional and "far from truthful" in regards to his own history.

    • @alg3rn0n73
      @alg3rn0n73 2 года назад

      @Axel Ave
      It's a ridiculous technique and a waste of time. It's like telling a student to "keep the balloon from hitting the ground" and convincing them the purpose is to build hand to eye coordination.
      Surely the student wouldn't feel safe up slapping a combative opponent in a serious situation, right? Of course not lol anyone with a brain stem would know better. The point is the technique itself is wasting the time of the student. At the end of the day, the accomplished task has enhanced no skills aside from creatively explaining the purpose of said task having already done it. What control is one gaining by squeezing a beach ball? Honestly? Balancing a baseball bat on the tips of your fingers will also teach you control, would you pay your hard earned money to flail around a dojo doing that? Lol nope! You can squeeze beach balls at home if you believe it to be useful. I'm at a dojo to learn skills. The "attitude" I'm carrying is simply
      1. Doting over Segall is a quick way to exploit your ignorance towards his ability to quickly ruin your reputation seeing as though Segall has spent decades ruining his own.
      And
      2. I'm not dedicating my paid time towards squeezing beach balls for whatever tired reason.
      You know what else teaches control over an opponent? Sparring, grapple training of almost any kind.. literally anything other than squeezing a ball lmao.
      If this indeed teaches a fight skill then the NBA has a plethora of possible black belts already one step closer to becoming efficient fighters..

    Whether you like Segal, Sensi Hokama, or the style of martial arts, I think you have to respect anyone who dedicates their life to seeking perfection (which of course is unobtainable). Some say this is not effective in the street. Really ? I doubt that many who say that, actually want to go down that street. But, I defy anyone to find a video of ANY style or practitioner, that doesn’t get criticism. Usually by someone who lives in mommy’s house, has several old issues of Black Belt Magazine and who has dedicated their life to achieving the next level on X-Box. Or, someone who’s simply had a week of training in a “different” style.

Young people are caught up in combat sports which I have trained in a lot of and they are wonderful. But as you age it is about the details behind what looks like simple techniques, yet there are great secrets behind them. This allows a much older practitioner to defend themselves successfully. Obviously an old master is not going to fight in the UFC but make no mistake you would not want to be in close proximity of this wonderful masters hands or feet. I have studied, practiced and sparred in most forms of empty hand combat and martial arts. There is value in everything, you just have to be opened minded enough to look. Bruce Lee, Dan Inosanto have studied damn near everything and have taken what they liked and was useful from each discipline. Just simply being tough is not martial arts. A martial artist is a person who aspires to have great character, integrity, self discipline and fighting ability. Hopefully, beyond all that they try to pass it on to future generations. I absolutely love what Master Tetsuhiro Hokama has demonstrated here. He is so full of life and passion with a willingness to share his knowledge. This is a real martial artist. The only secrets I know are watching Jack Dempsey in his prime--Joe Louis in his prime--Frazier in his prime--Foreman in his prime--Ali in his prime--Hagler in his prime--Robinson in his prime--Tyson in his prime.
      I have respect for true combat Karate, yes...it is a system that works. However, I simply don't and perhaps cannot understand the allure or reverence for many traditional martial arts...the only aspect I do appreciate is the spiritual component. Every traditional martial arts school I have ever had the opportunity to train in simply does not test themselves in true high pressure, high consequence situations. It's merely a bunch of exercises that maybe look cool and have a great deal of history behind them. Now, there are some schools of Karate that do spar full contact at near 100% force...but, seldom.
      Compare this experience to the experience of any old school, real western boxing gym. See how they spar--compare that to sparring in modern and traditional martial arts gyms. Why is it seldom to see comments such as "What a great old martial arts master...this should be cherished?" on RUclips from individuals watching Cus D'Amato explain the peekaboo style. He was in fact as skilled in the art of fighting as this man...I'm sure.

    • @vinzbronko
      @vinzbronko 5 лет назад +18

      @@teektalon3310 organized with pads in a ring? Or on the street, in bars and back alleys? I studied and lived the life. My discipline has restrained me from instigating but when I hear bullshit all night or someone want to he disrespectful kuz he thinks my girl is too hot to be with someone like me, I always have something to say, along with my stature and natural scowl I seem to draw the attention of many with something to prove. These specific arts are not for sport but survival. When perfectly practicing 10000s of times it becomes instinct, without thought your body reacts whether you see it coming or not. You watch this and should understand that it's at slow motion for demonstration purposes. Realize at full speed limbs are broken and ligaments are torn beyond repair. My first personal realization of this I was 17, on my way to a barbeque and randomly someone jumps out of nowhere at full speed diving at me. Granted I was sober and he was inebriated, with little effort or thot I dodged and avoided his tackle while assisting his momentum to meet the pavement sooner. Again yes he was drunk and I sober, so I was in defense mode and did not ever strike him personally. He attempted his same attack 2 more times and I responded as I did the first time. Finally someone he trusted approached and restrained his friend from further embarrassment and injury. He looked like he was jumped by 5 people. I never made one offensive move. He had a broken nose and was bloodied from head to toe. Trained to defend and defuse a volatile situation after decades of training your body reacts as it has too. I've cracked many sternums and clavicles and broken noses when necessary to defuse an encounter. I've been out numbered and walked away with little evidence of a scuffle. I lived the life for about a total of 15 years, split in 2 periods with probably a 10 year break between them. While I was in better shape during those times, I have still always been a short fat guy. So running has never been an option for me. I've won many trophies and medals at all levels including nationally as a teen. My parents were actually the reason for my acquired survival skills. When I joined the adult ranks at 18 my first fight was against a 32 yo who trained his entire life and I got whooped. Probably getting a concussion after his first point I still managed to last the 5 minute time limit losing 1-2 collapsing and taken in an ambulance after time expired. I was back the next month for more. Took me almost an entire year to win my first fight as an adult. My commitment was never 100% during my teens. Football and my friends were what mattered and we always had each other's back. We weren't bangers with guns but we seemed to have a lot of trouble find us often. Luckily it was mostly fists and feet an occasional bat or what have you every now and then. I'm not even a fighter, I'm a lover and I never speak on anything I have zero experience or first hand knowledge about. I've had a few altercations with a few people, under a few different circumstances, from a few different walks of life. Including a few big cowboys but from the city I think. I'm sure you wouldn't claim as your folk. I had the priveldge to test in front of a panel that included a master from Okinawa for my belt. I was his first choice for promotion. I'm sure we've all encountered a cocky show off martial artist who wasn't worth our time. These guys aren't those types. Thing is they don't look for trouble, but when it finds them I pity whoever makes the mistake thinking their size will influence their success
