What a weird time we live in where we get remakes of games we didn't ask for nor wanted, yet they still ended up good. Dead Space 2023 is such game. OG Dead Space still proves to be an exceptional horror game and an all time classic. But its remake made some adjustments and improvements in certain aspects and included some quality of life changes that put it just shy of the quintessential video game remake, Resident Evil (2002).
But of course, it has its sins. And I present them to you.

18:26 False: You gain enhanced Stasis (with slower duration and Electric DOT) at the end of the Harris/Mercer research side quest arch. You gain full access to loot-rooms with the manual override in the RIG collection quest. There is still reward, just not at the end of the side-quest arch that follows Nichole.
That side quest has one of the upgrade parts for your guns

The flamethrower isn't as useless as you think. Since they added a new mechanic where you have to go through muscle before you can sever the bone limbs you can use weapons like the flamethrower to burn off and weaken the flesh of necro morphs making it easier to cut them. Even a small little tap of fire can be enough.
Plus the fire wall shot is super useful against those necromorphs on the walls or the ones that spawn more monsters upon death
Exactly how I use it, I'd say it's actually one of the most useful weapons in the game now.
It has been a great weapon since always actually, it's just that people tend to think it's bad because it doesn't exactly cut limbs, but it has always been very useful to kill necromorphs.
I THINK the bit (sin 19 I think) about Nicole losing another patient to the Unitoligists was her talking about Isaac's mom and how it is almost certain she killed her husband, herself and gave all their money to them. Also, the new faces are based off their new voice actors like they where in the original.
Oh and Allison Vincent is mentioned in some of the logs you find.

I mean makes sense given she's a senior medical officer. In the OG it was weird she was so young and was already on her career peak.

I played the game and it references Gabe Weller and Alyssa Vincent multiple times. Also you can’t really include her as a survivor considering she’s floating around in the middle of space like a depressing kite.

@@guilhermehank4938Even with an excuse like the Remake being an alternative but similar universe or whatever, Vincent couldn't have survived for multiple reasone:
1. She's a fodder who refuses to stay put in a safe place and risk her life saving other fodder that end up dead and almost died multiple times doing so in Downfall
2. She can't survive long enough for Isaac to find her unless she stayed next to the Marker which is the only safe space. And we know what that would do to her mentally.
3. She has next to 0 reason to try and wait for anyone to save her in the already dead Ishimura.
She was screwed from the start. Just like Nicole and everyone else on the ship.
2:30 gonna have to give you all the sins for pointing out that Isaac's remake face partially resembles Philip DeFranco, because now I can't unsee it, and that guy is very high on my most hated RUclipsrs list.
3:22 you nailed this one, glad it wasn't just me who noticed that Nicole's remake voice actor did a terrible job here, especially compared to the original. And especially again because remake Nicole also returned from Dead Space 2. Original part 1 Nicole was voiced by someone else entirely.
I mean, if both she and the OG Nicole (where even GCN said she didn’t sound like she was gonna kill herself) sounded like they were going to kill themselves, then that MASSIVELY gives away the entire twist, because we’re supposed to think she’s ALIVE the entire time.

you forgot to mention how Mercer somehow survived a point blank force gun shot despite only wearing plain clothes. on top of that that gun litterally blasts off literal layers of the body on necromorphs
3:23 the problem with being a remake is that it is still cursed to tell the same story the original did, however the remake has the option to add additional context thanks to Extraction, Downfall, and the Comic. While it was a missed opportunity not bringing in Nika Futterman to reprise her role as Alissa Vincent, even for that final recording, you don't need to see Alissa's vidlog since the focus is on the Kellion crew, and their response to the SOS signal from the Ishimura. Btw, spoilers...
Another sin the remake suffers is still staying within the same timeline for the sake of consistency, and due to the events of Downfall, Extraction, and the Comic tie in, EVERYONE is dead, including Alissa due to being suck out of an airlock trying to get inside a shuttle, and her body being cast out into the cold vacuum of space. She wouldn't be alive to help the Kellion crew.
I will answer this, EVERYTHING is canon. The comics, the movies, even the side games, as they provide additional context to the events surrounding the markers at each location, and the characters we would eventually meet in later games.
Downfall is definitely canon since Vincent is mentioned by name in several logs in the remake
Having played dead space 2 recently, I can honestly say that the flamethrower is not as weak as people say it is, the only enemies it's useless against are uburmorphs and hunters.
I was also a little disappointed in the flamethrower in this remake...until I started using statis on enemies crossing a firewall. That never once got old.
Idk the flamethrower is a good crowd control tool with the fire wall. I much prefer to have it over the pulse rifle or the gravity gun. With the fire wall you can insta kill the wall dudes too.
The flamethrower by itself won't kill necros that quick, but spraying a crowd and waiting a few seconds for the flesh to rip off before one shotting limbs is the way.
The "Nicole" you come across on the Ishimura is actually Elizabeth Cross. The Marker changes some of your dialogue to her to make her think you are Jacob Temple, and changes some of her dialogue to you to make you think she is Nicole. That is why some of the lines she says to you are really excited and others are just normal since those are just the ones she said for real. The Marker doesn't change more than it needs to since it is sneaky.

Chen could've easily taken care of a few in silence, to then force the ships to crash into each other and then an infector flown in and turned them
By the time they recorded that, it was already too late, they were swarmed
yeah but the issue with that is, clearly when you find the pod on the valor, it is very much so apparent that chens exit from the pod wasnt at all quite, nor stealthy, and for the necro infection, sure quite possible that couldve helped to the overthrowing of tbe valor, but it just doesnt make sense with the amount of unturned soldier bodies everywhere
The whole Valor part was weird tbh. They were even instructed what to do if there was an on-going infection. Picking up the pod was literally against their protocols for gods sake. With new things, new plot holes. This one is the worst for me.

There is one upgrade to your stasis for doing sidequests. It adds an electricity AOE to it

Dr. Kyne is under the influence of the marker , he hallucinates about Amelia, the maker makes him transport it to the planet surface. 26:51

There are a few things that really don't make sense in the first Dead Space. 1. At what point would Captain Mathius have time to go to the Communication Array, watching Downfall and a RUclips video that that combines the Comics, Extraction, Downfall, and audio logs to show the timeline of events. Captain Mathius never left the Bridge once, until he died. So who destroyed the Communication Array? 2. With the Communication Array destroyed how did Nicole send that message to Issac before they even entered the Aegis System. Also in the original game Kendra implies that Issac watched the message multiple times how did he not see Nicole die let alone Kendra, Hammond, and the 2 Security/Pilots not see her death when they were not in range of the Marker to effect them. And 3. Why would The Valor open the escape pod when they could see through the Window of the pod. That has always annoyed me to no end, the loss of the Valor. 😅

They didn't know that almost everyone was dead on the Ship
Still, is carelessly and poorly thought on their part (especially Isaac), since they, as a repair team, should be prepared for any situation. Even more since the Ishimura is the pride of the CEC and saviour of Humanity, so it they should have been prepared even more.

While I'm glad to hear someone else other than me watched Downfall..... Yeah Alissa Kinda Died in the Cold Vacuum of Space at the End of that Movie so she wouldn't make a Return even if it is Canon. Would've been Cool to see the Pseudo Return of Some Characters from that Movie like Irons and maybe even what was left of Shen as a part of the Gravedigger, Which was a Monster Cut from the Movie. It Would've made Sense to use it in the Remake as if it would've been Included it wouldn't have been Killed since Most of Alissa's Team was Dead and her and the only other Survivor were Focused on the Marker.
The only thing I found really wrong that you pointed out was why the necromorphs were straight up mincing people and not turning them into necromorphs themselves. The markers don't actually need to convert everyone to a biomass. So it doesn't matter if they are necromorphs or just piles of flesh, they can all be used in the convergence event.
That is true, but Isaac and his companions have survived despite being new to the situation, so the Marker would preferably focus on transforming them to kill remaining survivors.

To be fair even if necromorphs are hacking apart bodies at bare minimum the marker can repurpose the flesh that's leftover from bodies that aren't able to become a full necromorph or even other dead necromorphs into things like the leviathan
10:18 Incorrect about large med packs. The price has always been 10,000 credits. The prices for all med packs, plasma energy, and pulse rounds remain unchanged from the original. Ripper blades are also cheaper and stasis packs are half the price of the original cost.
18:18 You actually do get a huge upgrade to your stasis that basically turns it into a weapon if you complete that specific side mission.
A couple of those clearly show the makers of this video didn't understand the story and missed a few things. Downfall is still canon, Vincent is even mentioned in the remake. The marker wants onto the pedestal (it amplifies its signal) to put its blueprints into Isaac's mind as its makers are long dead and without them it can't start convergence (see DS2), so the whole outbreak is ultimately useless outside of finding compatible minds to build more markers so that convergence can happen elsewhere. Nicole was talking about Isaac's mom. You get the better stasis for doing sidequests. Kendra/EarthGov planned to hide the marker in some random, far away part of the universe again (basically that was what AEGIS VII was, one of three test sites for the man-made marker copies) - AEGIS VII was off-limits, the crazy unitologists ventured there after they learned of it, it was an illegal operation so to speak. And quite a few other things I could correct.
Some things I do agree with: I prefered OG Nicole as well, she seemed so much sweeter. Some of the original sound design was superior - plasma cutter but most of all: where was the hivemind's scream? Also OG Kyne was way more interesting, losing his original actor (Keith Szarabajka) was a shame, he should've been asked back. Isaac looks like his actor now (well, Id say Gunner Wright looks much better in RL but the model is clearly based on him), give him his stubble and optimize the mesh a bit and he'll be PERFECT. Gunner is Isaac, how could anyone fault that... Same with the others. That's one thing the Callisto Protocol really got going for itself (although it's not as bad as people claim) - best character models I've ever seen, sometimes they looked real for a second or two. I'm sure they'd be optimized for a DS2 Remake or DS4, whichever comes...
Well, EarthGov wanted the Marker for research, while Remake!Kendra decided to betray EarthGov and hide the Marker somewhere else.

At 3:22, you mentioned that you had the pleasure of watching Dead Space Downfall, and that you hoped Alissa Vincent would be a survivor. My only gripe with that sin is that she's dead. She jettisoned herself into space at the end of the film to send out an emergency beacon. And literally as her body floats away the, the USG Kellion arrives minutes after Alissa would've been long dead from being jettisoned.

The flamethrower is actually way more useful in this game than in the original. The remake adds a flesh peeling system that will make it easier to remove limbs. The flamethrower rapidly burns off skin, allowing you to swap to a cutting weapon for quick dismemberment.

There’s actually a couple logs that mention Vincent in the remake, I can think of 2 text logs I found
3 thing I noticed, 1 you forgot to mention the new peeling system where instead of limbs just getting cut off like in the original, they instead get damaged and you can see that damage and it not just cosmetic it has actual effects on the enemy like once you peeled an enemy they'll be much easier to cut of their limbs, 2 you mentioned how ineffective the flamethrower is, while in the original, yes, it was, in the remake, thanks to the peeling system has made it one of the better ones especially in higher difficultys, cus it burns away the skin from the enemy and makes them easier to take care off,3 when you mentioned the whole side quest not giving rewards I was confused cus they actually do, the one you used as an example might be the best reward even, the hunter origin, it gives your stasis a peeling effect, other than some things we might agree or disagree on the game that pretty much it, love your videos, if you ever do an extra sin video on this game please mentioned the new peeling stuff I feel it adds depth to the combat

To be fair, the alt fire of the pulse rifle was kinda useless against any enemies low to the ground.
12:31 the "not again" refers to Isaac's mother, who was a unitologist and a patient of Nicole's. She killed herself after Nicole left on the Ishimura and is the reason for the estrangement between the two.
Idk if this is on the video but my BIGGEST genuine complaint is no idle animations. He doesn’t do that little relax at all anymore he’s always stiff. Also he doesn’t have the noticeable zero-g walk anymore. It’s different then normal but not how it was originally.

My issues are more with Dead Space lore. The game talks about humanity running out of resources. Yet they can travel in ftl. Its hard to believe with all the tech they have. They cant fully live on other planets. Other issue is how do Necromorphs survive in the vacuum of space where there is no air? That always bugged the hell out of me trying to figure that out. They need oxygen. They use the ships oxygen. Until they make a habitable zone more suitable for them. Next Dr. Mercer. He wants to take them to Earth. However the Usg Ishimura cant travel into FTL. The singularity core was broken. Im not sure if Mercer knew this or not. Or if this was a writing issue. On top of that. We dont know where Aegis 7 is located. We dont know if its close enough to Earth to travel without a ftl core. Also to note Ishimura only had hours left of fuel. Until there is solid conformation. It is extremely unlikely the ship could of gotten to Earth. Next Aegis 7 the planet itself. In the mini comic series they had out. Everytime they were outside. They had a oxygen mask on. The planet doesnt look like it has oxygen. Once again we dont know since they dont show a detail list of the planet information. It was interesting to see Kedra in the first game with no mask on the planet. I feel like they either forgot, or didnt have enough memory to give her a mask. In the remake. Seeing Cross, and Kendra without a air mask. Leads me to believe the planet has to have oxygen. Or since they are in the beam area. It has some sort of oxygen in that area? Last the game wasnt to difficult beating on impossible mode. It does get tedious though. Biggest tip is to take a break every 2 hours. Seriously dont try to grind the game in 1 sitting. I stuck with the plasma cutter the entire run. Didnt bother picking up any other weapons. First couple hours get rough due to very limited resources. As you progress. You get some breathing room. The game has a A.I set up like Left For Dead. Do to well. The game will start throwing curve balls at you. If you're struggling. It will spawn less monsters give you more ammo, and resources. Saving is your friend. So is stasis.
Eh, wouldn't make canonical sense to have had Alissa in the remake, considering what happens to her at the very end of Downfall, which occurs roughly before Isaac & the Kelion crew arrived.
Could've had some audio logs or journal entries though, even if it's basically saying that the events of Downfall are still canon to the remake's timeline.

I remember in 2008 Dead Space, when you encountered the Wheezers, you could shoot or stomp them to death but now you must inject them to kill them and restore the oxygen levels

The flamethrower is actually very useful in higher difficulties as the new dismemberment system means you have to shoot necros multiple times to peel their skin away before you can cut the limb off. A quick blast of the flamethrower melts their skin right off allowing you to one shot their exposed bone. Its also probably why the og pulse fire alt was changed, it would have been utterly useless with the new dismemberment system.
Also sin 31: my dude 2 out of 3 side missions give you game changing upgrades. The hunter side quests gives your stasis a damaging effect that burns all their skin off and the clearance quest gives you huge loot rooms and weapon upgrades.
Gaming sins will do this a few times in his videos to make a sin.
Example:MGS 1 sins
He states you cant run and gun but, you can.
States if you get the Socom in the base you cant get the thermal goggles but, you still can get them.

I always assumed the small, underprepared maintenance team was intentional. Less witnesses and all. That being said though Earth Gov is aware of how much a threat the Marker is. Even sending a Warship to obliterate it. So why send a team at all knowing what they know?
I think all players of the Dead Space games can agree that the ADS cannon section is much better than it was in the original, even I agree that the remake did better, and usually I don't usually see the negatives of anything but the ADS cannon section in the original Dead Space was by far the worst shooting I have ever displayed to myself

Counter to some of the weapon complaints: the majority of the "weapons" we come across are actually utility tools. Plasma cutter is for wires and precise cutting, the line cutter is that but bigger, the saw blade thing is likely a tool for distance slicing or carving through locked doors, pulse rifle is obviously for defense, stasis is for slowing down machinery to make navigation and diagnosis a bit easier, and the flamethrower/plasma torch would be useful for melting down ores. Not fully sure about the big ass laser cannon though. Although the gravity well and kinesis make sense in terms of catching a crewmate who may have otherwise been lost to space.
Kendra suddenly accusing Hammond was always weird to me. Like...we crash on this ship, get chased by horrific zombi monstrosities that are ALL over the ship and all you can care about it some - by anyone's perspective - pretty wild accusation about Hammond allegedly and for some reason being in on all of this somehow? That just makes her look super weird.
Another thing that just occurred to me is: how did the entire Valor get infected so fast? This isn't a unique logic error in the Remake, it's also a thing in the original. You have that one necromorph and Okay, imagine it kills 1 or 2 soldiers. But after that it should be gunned down and no one should instantly transform. These super fast transformations only happen when an infector infects a corpse. But...on the Valor there was no infector. So realistically maybe 1 or 2 soldiers would've died, then the soldiers would've killed the necromorph and then they would've had 2 dead soldiers and a dead necromorph. Makes no sense that somehow everyone on the ship is instantly turned into necromorphs.
Also Also: how is Kendra down on the planet? She used the shuttle that Isaac later uses but as it's being called back she uses an escape pod. I don't think these pods can land on the planet itself.
Did Kendra in the Remake started to throw accusations at the very first chapter? I remember Kendra waited until Chapter 4 to start putting dirt on Hammond.

Having done a full Impossible playthrough I can say the Flamethower is far from useless especially with the games new peel and dismember system of damage as even though it doesnt truly peel flesh it weakens any enemy to a 1 or 2 shot dismember instead of up to 6 shots with a plasma cutter. Frankly it and the force gun are probably in the top 4 weapons in the remake

yes and one of the side missions gives you the master override keycard which unlocks upgrade parts for various weapons
I noticed that in the remake, the actors sound flatter.
I found the flamethrower to be one of the best weapons for crowd control.
In the original dead space, Nicole actually looked like a woman, instead of a man dressed as a woman, gotta get those social credit points up though, right? Women being portrayed with feminine features is obviously sexist. Has to be adapted for modern audiences in someway, right? Hey, I got a great idea for how we can make this game better, let’s make all the women who were remotely attractive look like transvestites, that’s a great idea Bob! That’s exactly what the game was missing !
Honestly the re-make did very well on improving the sound design of the game.😺

You can't say the stomp is terrible. We don't know how much the suit weighs or if the magnets affect it more. Can't say he's being "too weak" either. If the boots weigh, I don't know 50 pounds, are YOU gonna be able to stomp like you're wearing sandals? The weight will help bring your foot down for that extra impact, but you still need to lift it and your own weight too.

No you don't understand he's working on many other videos but he's also making sure some of his sins are actually correct for the video so that he's giving proper criticism he explains this in his Discord and twitch chats
There’s no way you actually called the pulse rifles alt fire useful and badass. It was completely useless, a waste of your ammo and clunky as fuck. That move gets me killed 8/10 times. It’s removal makes the remake better, no contest.
I’m still baffled that you made videos for Uncharted 1 and 2, but not for any of the other Uncharted games, which had even more moments that made me think about you, like this one from 3:

I do have some minor nitpicks, all due respect:
4:46. The area is being Quarantined not Isolated. In a sense, it's supposed to be vague since the computer cannot distinguish what the anomoly is, only that it's hazardous. The real sin is that the vents aren't being sealed along with the doors, which inadvertently is allowing Necromorphs to pop in and kill everyone.
5:57. Joking aside, the Plasma Cutter is a mining tool, not a weapon. Plus, it's energy based, not internal combustion based like the Pulse Rifle. The new sound design is meant to reflect that.
9:21. Think of it like this; you're in an environment you are unfamiliar with that is swarming with hostile forces. Viable or not, you will backpedal to what you know. Which, in this case, is the Emergency Protocol. It's like a safety net for them given what little information and resources they have to work with.
12:32. She's referring to Octavia. Isaac's mother. Whom she failed to help and as a result, Octavia ended up killing her husband(Issac's father) and herself. This also caused Isaac and Nicole to fight just prior to the Ishimura getting overrun.
13:36. Joking aside, that explosion absolutely decimated the barricade and even set the ground on fire. If Isaac stood there, he would've been blown to bits. Naturally, it's better to take cover from an explosion, masculinity be damned.
17:58. If Mercer hit Isaac with another blast of Stasis, the Hunter would just kill Isaac. The whole point is to experiment with dismemberment and test the Hunters' regeneration. Killing Isaac and maybe bringing Convergence is a bonus.
18:09. There are only 3 side missions; Nicole's Investigation, Prototype Stasis, and Master Override. One of the latter two give a special Stasis that deals DoT while the other gives access to rooms and chests for special upgrades, something you praised at 10:50.
24:12. No, Cadigan said "alien". Singular. Even in the subtitles it shows as "alien."
24:35. Exactly, the Valor is a military ship that is supposedly on patrol. So why would it have a nuclear warhead if it were just on patrol if not to destroy the Ishimura. The real sin is that later Kendra reveals that the Valor was supposed to "help her out." By destroying the ship she was on and the marker with it? Everytime we see her with the Marker she isn't trying to destroy it, instead she takes it, so what changed, Daniels? And if you say, "Oh the Valor was supposed to pick her up THEN destroy the Ishimura" then why would she go along with a repair crew? Why not just come with the Valor instead of the Kellion? That would've saved a lot of time.
28:33. You're right. And to add on: why does a shuttle have a manual override to bring it BACK to the Ishimura? It makes no sense to me. Why have pilots in those seats if it can be remotely controlled? If it's to bring any stranded ships back into port, if they're stranded... it's for a reason. Such as low fuel, a failure of some sort, or maybe a Necromorph outbreak? Why bring it back and potentially damage something or someone?
And that's it! Though your slander on the flamethrower is unforgivable. That's a good gun. Only issue is it makes the game too easy.

Honestly, i liked this remake kendra more then the original one. In this, she seemed nicer and wasn't bitching to Hammond 24/7. Plus since Isaac also talked with her, it Made her death hit harder than in the original, where it's more like "ha ha, gottem".
When we needed him most, GCN came back.
