If they are oil based wouldn't they over time, have the oil seep into the paper? depending on the paper maybe? I used ball point pens in my old planners for work, and older ones I could see a sort of clear sheen around each line as if that had happened. Almost like the paper was turning transparent, the same way it does when you wrap fried fish in newspaper.
Phenol is the solvent used in Solv-X as well as in many aircraft-grade paint strippers (for stripping epoxy and polyurethane which most chemicals won't attack). It's likely the smell you remember from the aircraft hanger.
Goodbye Peter. It was nice to see you also. Parker pens have been around a very long time 1888 and were considered to be used by people with status. At least that was always my impression because I could never have afforded one. Now i can so now i will buy one. Thanks for the demo
These Parker 25 pens were very popular in the UK in the 80s. I got one for my 18th birthday which I am still using at the age of 54. Mine is in steel, still works well. The paper these days is more porous which absorbs much more ink, making it damper more quickly, and more prone to bleed through. I prefer a fine nib which suits my handwriting, and I find I am able to write better with a fountain pen rather than a ballpoint pen.
It's interesting to see how differently some people write. Not the handwriting necessarily, but where you begin each letter and the order in which you draw the lines.
It also is interesting to see HOW people hold their writing instruments. Sometimes I am so disturbed by how they hold their pen I can't pay attention to what they are writing. Just, like, how on earth does that feel comfortable? And then i am reminded of the strange way I hold my pens. I am double jointed and what feels most comfortable to me, where I feel like I have control over the instrument, used to drive my 3rd grade teacher batty. She crumpled up balls of paper and shoved them into my hand so my hand was forced to go around them. But I kept dropping the pencil. Fun times. The way people are "supposed" to hold pens just doesn't work for me.
I knew someone who could only write when holding the paper diagonally and he held the pen damn near the very end of the pen. People are fascinating in their habits
For anyone wondering what Peter was talking about when he mentioned Japanese breakage (as much as I like his word, wabisabi) that word is known as kintsugi or kintsukuroi which is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas with gold, platinum, or silver. By doing this, it symbolizes how breakage and repair of an object is part of its history rather than something that should be hidden.
Wow excuse me, it turns out there are in fact other names for it. Wabisabi is an actual name for it as well. 😂 it literally sounded made up or like a weird way of saying “wasabi”. Funny. Welp- learned something new!
Oh goodness, yes! I'm 62 so this takes me back to my childhood when my Mom, who was an accountant, in the era before computers, would only use her Parker pen in her great big ledgers. She had the most amazing handwriting. In those days you were only allowed to use fountain pens for school. Being lefthanded made that very difficult. Anyway I still have my mother's Parker pens from the early '50's until she retired in the 90's. They still work. We used to pump the ink bladder in the pen a couple of times to fill it up. Thanks Peter for this.
Your voice is so soothing and relaxing. Plants called Spider and Snake. It still kills me that he can't read cursive. Makes me wonder how many people will be unable to read plain english just because they were not taught cursive. And that is really neat writing. Me wonders if this is another plot to hide our history.
I gave my spider plant a haircut just last night. Cut away some of the dead leaves and such. The plant was my mum's but one day she stopped watering it, and it was dying. I took it off her hands, watered it every day, and brought it back to life. Even planted some of its babies in the same pot, since there was space for them. I also have an umbrella plant. If you're worried about over watering them, or forgetting to water them, you could get one of those watering globe things. Fill it up with water, stick it in the soil, and the water slowly drips out into the earth.
oh yes spider plants seem to live forever. And spawn babies so you can make more. When I was in highschool, I bought a Philodendron plant at Walgreens, of all places. It was maybe about a foot tall. I kept it alive for decades. Repotting when necessary, staking it up to the wall, and later the ceiling. It survived the move to college dorms, off campus housing, to an apartment and then my first house. But after I had a baby, I was too busy I guess, and there wasn't a room with really good light. It was mostly the baby thing that distracted me from watering enough or something. It was well over 9-10 feet tall with each leaf easily spanning 12-14 inches across when it died off. So sad. I tried to make it grow UP, and it put out "roots" from higher up nodes, They'd grow longer and longer and I'd guide them towards the soil. I think it's more of a vine supposed to creep along the ground maybe?
"Solv-X was a detergent used to aid ink flow (surfactant) and since it was a detergent, Parker could claim it cleaned, too." - it smells good because it's a solvent LOL - get a lil contact buzz??

By: Angela Koncz The spider plant (Chlorophytum comosum) is considered one of the most adaptable of houseplants and the easiest to grow. This plant can grow in a wide range of conditions and suffers from few problems, other than brown tips. The spider plant is so named because of its spider-like plants, or spiderettes, which dangle down from the mother plant like spiders on a web. Available in green or variegated varieties, these spiderettes often start out as small white flowers. Snake plants are indeed toxic for pets. However the spider plant isn't poisonous. I have two cats, so I had to do some research before I bought some plants two months ago.
Parker has been my go-to brand for fountain pens since an ex bought one for me on my birthday. All of them (8) are in perfect condition and are amazing to use. I'm yet to find a brand that equals quality-price
Wanted to see if this pen was in my price range because it looked quite nice. Turns out this pen is selling for $152. Sadly, ive gotta take a hard pass 🙃
A smudge. How crushing 😰. I can relate. It might be that the notebook is more for the Jotters and/or the ink might have something to do with it. I have a sample of Platinum Carbon Black in a Red Platinum Preppy M05 I've used on a Target Composition Book that I'm making into a 2020 planner. Maybe permanent FP inks are prone to bleed through on thinner paper that's somewhat FP friendly? 🤔
On light aircraft, A&P technicians will often spray the entire engine down with solvent to clean the engine before leak testing. The ink has solv-x in it, which leads me to believe that is some sort of solvent.
My dad used to work for Parker Pen when I was in elementary school. I grew up about 20 miles from Janesville. I have cousin s that still live there. This video is very interesting to me.
I've still got a bottle of blue Quink Ink from my school days in the '60s. Same shape bottle and scalloped lid. Parker/Quink is popular in Australia, as is Sheaffer. Press in before you put it in the ink, release while in. And yes, smells different.
Hey Peter, are the characters in the drawing actual letters or do you just make them up? They make the piece much more interesting, like it was some kind of ancient blueprint made by a lost civilization
It's always interesting to see how people respond to a fountain pen (or multiples) when they're not used to seeing them. Parkers are definitely nostalgic for me, as my dad used them when I was growing up. Now I have two of the ones (75's) he worked with every day and use them quite frequently myself. Something interesting is that I find they actually write best with Pelikan ink.
My dad had a stainless steel Parker 25, the fountain, ballpoint and roller ball set in the 70’s. I recently got the ball point off him, he could not find the others but I then found a stainless steel Parker 25 fountain pen on EBay. So much a shape of their time and lovely pens to use. I have to say I love the black series.
Oh good. Now I don't feel so bad that I mentioned sending gifts and am still putting it together. It's very nice to meet your plants. So far they seem to be doing very well, especially the snake plant. It looks very happy. Thats an interesting nib for sure. I've never seen one quite like that. You know they make scented inks but they all seem to be florals. I wonder if they have ones that are more masculine, like tractor, or dirt, motor oil, cigar, or leather. I would think so. Sometimes I feel like anything you can imagine is available somewhere..
:o Brad was here!!! word from the wise. never loan your nice pens that's what the ball pens are for. they do the work of the days pen work and are not a tragedy when not returned.
my wonderful Uncle Ted - god rest his soul - used to work at the Parker factory here in the UK. At a place called Newhaven, a few miles east of Brighton, on the south coast. Pretty sure that's closed now, with changes of ownership and production being moved abroad. Needless to say, the whole family used Parker pens, mostly ballpoints. Ted had a whole draw at home full of refills and stuff. Anytime you needed a refill or whatever a quick phone call and he'd get you sorted. When Parker introduced their refillable fibre tip pen - in the early 70s - I asked Ted if he could get me one. 'Sure, no problem,' he said. Happy days.
Its a parker pen Spider plant +Parker Pen+ Peter(who is a man)=Peter Parker is Spider Man. Yeah right. Parker could never be Spiderman but that Flash Thompson guy ,on the other hand,....
parker quink black has to be some of the worst ink im sorry i love it if you have like watercolor paper or 100 gsm exceed but this ink requires special paper like i dont know what they used back then for paper but id like to know cause we need to go back there and tell them hey can you make this for all the papers thanks
I have a Parker fountain pen. I have had it a while. I don’t remember how I acquired it, but I love it. I use it to write in my Hobonichi Daily planner everyday. It was made in the UK. I use it with Parker Quink blue colored ink. I am looking to get other fountain pens, although i am very happy with this one. I enjoy your videos. You’re entertaining and talented. I bought the Rotring lead holder that you recommended in another video. Looking forward to getting it.

Parker 25 fountain pen, probably my favourite 👍.
Wrote most of my school work with this piece!
The Japanese practice of putting bowls back together with gold fillings is Kintsutsugi!!
Thanks peter
Happy days.
Spider plant=peter planter

Spider plant +Parker Pen+ Peter(who is a man)=Peter Parker is Spider Man. Yeah right. Parker could never be Spiderman but that Flash Thompson guy ,on the other hand,....

I've had a Parker 25 in silver for about 40 years. Definitely the Best Pen I've ever owned. I still NEED a DUOFOLD and a 51 though.
I feel like it isn't said enough, his outros are my favorite of all time
This drawing looks like a library spaceship battle cruiser...my favorite drawing yet.
The best most exclusive is Parker!
Wow, awesome review sir. Great work ...
Great nostalgia :) I went through school in England in the 70s with a Parker like that :)))
Parker 51 - best fountain pen ever.
Solv-x is supposed to help prevent feathering, but it also increases flow of inks, it's kind of a double edged sword
If you think the Parker 25 is different , try the Parker 51 ... Very nice pens
