Your pdf Hat Buying Guide doesn't cover all of the hats in this video, I was looking for more information on flat caps and hats similar to it because I think they would compliment the shape of my face. You cover the Newsboy, but you said there is a wide variety of styles and variations of flat caps and I was hoping they would be covered in your pdf but I don't see them in there? I'm looking for one less flashy than a beret.
The flat cap is having a resurgence right now mostly due to the absolutely incredible BBC series Peaky Blinders, which is a show about gangsters in Birmingham in the 1920s. The style in the show is fantastic, and I’d love to see a video on it
I dad bought first time he dropped ne off in university. One day im alone in the house, i put it on and it fit me. Now i got my own flatcap but we trade every once in a while
I’ve always worn a flat cap thanks to my uncle. I recall needing a hat because it was cold out and I borrowed one of his and was surprised to see how well it framed my face and well… I’ve never looked back. The thing I love about the flat cap is that it can look casual, semi-casual, or formal depending on what you’re wearing and they make some that have hidden ear flaps for winter!
Hey Marine, When I went through Infantry Officer School at Ft Benning in 1981 the M1951 was called a Ranger Patrol Cap and was easy to roll up and put into your cargo pocket. The modern-day Army field cap is a descendant of those old Ranger Caps. Semper Fi Marine.
Hey There - I went through Benning in 83-84 2ITB D-4-2 then on through Ranger school. Almost 20 years to the day my son went through Benning! Of course he was at Sand Hilton lol I went to Harmony Church but they had torn most of it down by the time my son was there. I found out my father had gone through Harmony Church 2 decades before me on his way to Vietnam. Seems like my family is making a tradition of going through Benning lol Cheers mate
Hey Antonio I want to let you know that you have been a great influence on my life :) Last year I was a high school.student and we had kickboxing for PE class. There was this new Kickboxing trainer and because of you I initially introduced myself, he is shocked and says "....You're polite..? You're like the only one loool" Lmaooo it felt so good. When I marry and meet my wife's parents for the first time I'm gonna be watching your manners video 24/7 lmaoooo
It's impressive how much information is given out in this, and every RMRS video! I realize other channels can be quite informative as well. However, the style and delivery here is so effective that I can hear Antonio's voice when I'm shopping for clothes now
The Indiana Jones movies got me into the fedoras, and I have a Indiana Jones looking fedora I wear with my brown leather jacket. I avoid cotton watch caps because if they get wet they are useless. Wool on the other hand, retains something like 90% it's ability to help keep you warm even when it's wet. Thanks for another great video.
A point about the bowler that many people don't realise is that its relatively tight fit around the head coupled with its high crown allows you to wear it in turbulent weather but have your hair completely untouched. Unlike caps, the inside of the bowler is mostly not in contact with the hair at all.
My favorite cold weather hat is my Royal Navy officer's beret. Traded for it with a British frigate when I served as the OPS officer of a USN fleet oilier.
Thank you for mentionning the ushanka. I bought myself two model, one casual wich is grey with a blue-ish fur and a black one I wear on special occasions. I removed the the soviet brooch on both for obvious reasons. They’re so efficient to protect, I like to say you have a complete immunity to cold while wearing this
My dad had 2 Astrikhans (curly Persian & "fur") in the 1960s. I called then Kruchev hats. Thanx for the real name; now I can get my own (his were to small, even at age 14).
Baseball caps, in a tiny Texas town of 1000 that's all everyone wears, except an occasional western hat. As for me, I have several nice baseball caps of different colors to match what I'm wearing. I hope to get some nicer hats in the near future. Thanks for the video.
Hi Antonio, I have heard many compliments on the fact that I am a "hat guy." I have worn the fedora for many years. I don't understand why more men do not wear the hat. I see so many men wearing baseball caps and think I am so different. Do they not realize that we have more similarities than differences. I commented on your video where you mentioned wearing hats about a year ago. The style of hat is very personal and not all hats look good on all men, hence, it is important to get the right style that fits your face, clothing and personality. I wear the fedora because I wear suits most of the time and the more formal hat fits me best. Be open minded as you seek out the best hat style for you. I too like the flat cap and newsboy as well. Good luck in your quest for the right style for you. You will be amazed at how often you are complimented for your courage to go against the norm and sport a real mens hat, not a baseball cap. Best of luck. John, Sacramento, CA
Being from Michigan where Stormy Kromer’s are made, they are the well accepted (and effective) winter wear. You always get comments about it, and acknowledgements from other Stormy Kroger wearers. Great video!
I have a capsule wardrobe and have five hats (which is a lot when I say it out loud). • Watchcap (beanie folded yo twice) which I wear often for Fall and Winter. (I have one in black and one in navy). • Flatcap. It’s a light tweed which I can wear in the Fall, Winter, and Spring • Yukon hat. This one is a heavier tweed and has flaps I can tie up or bring down for really cold weather. I placed a small Knights of Columbus enamel pin up front. • Dad hat. It’s a navy cap with a small 👌 outline. It was $5 and wanted to have a cap leisurely days.
I bought a trilby a couple years ago, and I basically got it cuz it was the single hat I found anywhere that actually fit my head. I stopped wearing it a while ago cuz I started wearing more "casual" clothes due to suits not being too fit for my work. But a couple weeks ago I got into a chinese store nearby and found a flat cap that has the folding bit shown in the video, so I bought it right away and haven't stopped using it, but besides being the right fit, it was also about $3 and was the only one in the store. A couple days later though, I found the same one in brown on another store, and again, was the only one there so I got that one too. I've never been much of a hat person, but oh boy does it feel great to wear one when it fits you just right.
Australian here. We love our Akubras for good reason. It's like one of those brand names like "Hoover" or "Windsurfer" or "Frisbee" where the brand becomes synonymous with the object, so "Akubra" and "hat" are almost interchangeable. But there's another style of hat which is very popular here, and very practical: the straw beach hat. Breathable, light, and wide brimmed, it gives you a lot of protection from the sun. It's not just for beach wear. Australians are pretty informal people and the beach hat seldom looks out of place. Even at night in the rain.
Where’s your shop located? Do you have a website? I’m looking for a good place to purchase hats. I like to find one good source for things and then be loyal to that particular shop. I find that having a good relationship with a given person/shop is much more important than saving a few pennies elsewhere. Cheers mate
The Stormy Cromer is often called the Scotch cap. It has been popular in the Northern plains and the Rockies with ranchers and farmers for the last century. The folding ear flaps make it highly functional for our weather that frequently fluctuates 30 degrees in a day.
@@GaryR55, there's nothing wrong with a good baseball cap or trucker cap. They're great casual hats. Although, I'm really not a fan of the flat brim "streetwear" hats with all the tags. That is a trashy look.
Excellent video. Photos taken before 1865 feature bowlers because the cowboy hat wasn't invented yet. John B Stetson invented it in 1865 and they became popular however most could not afford one. Most Stetsons were made of beaver and his first hat sold for a $5 gold coin. They have always been expensive and still are. A Stetson beaver felt hat today is over $1000. The cheaper versions are rabbit/hare felt and some are mixed with beaver. I recently bought a pure European rabbit felt Stetson cowboy hat for $250 and it's a very nice hat indeed. I sprayed it with felt hat protector to make it water proof. It's very comfortable, stylish and practical to wear. Would love a pure beaver felt hat someday. I feel a western hat is the most stylish hat of all and many ladies agree. The tall cattleman crown makes me look taller and my face narrower. A pinch crown fedora makes my face look fatter.
Here are my hats that work quite well, and were affordable providing excellent protection from elements while looking good. Three flat caps, brown, black, and light grey. Panama Brown fedora Ushanka Two toboggans(watchcap) Boonie cap Jayne Cobb Beanie These were bought secondhand or given to me. I do want a few more though. Would love an astrakhan, homburg, a boater, bowler, and a cowboy hat, but I never can seem to find them in thrift shops.
@@RealMenRealStyle About three years, though the toboggans and Jayne Cobb beanie were much older. Grew up in a rural area, so before then, it was either a cowboy or baseball cap.
The cowboys and Stetson in particular were influenced by the wide brimmed sombreros the vaqueros wore. That's why he made the Boss of the Plains. I've started wearing flat caps in the last 6 or 8 months. Really like a linen one without lining in summer also got a mesh one. Both are cool in summer Used to wear boonies a lot and an Outback whenever it rained or was cooler.
I like wearing the flat cap and the beret. The ushanka looks pretty good in winter when wearing an overcoat .or a warm trench coat. I ain't in politics.
problem with boater hat was that many private Girl's schools used boater hat as part of their uniform. thus associating boater hat with little girls. therefore most adult male moved away from boaters.
What I'm missing missing is talk about COLOR! The color of the hat is REALLY important, especially with the more casual hats like the flatcap, paperboy hat and baseball hat. Please make a video about the color of hats! Thanks
@@joeybaseball7352 Unless it's black or white one (you) still needs to watch out. Even a formal hat with formal clothes it can still come over as too over-the-top (tophat pun unintentional). A color matching accessories can be good option for some situations, or even another color altogether with everyday wear. Many non-formal hats like paperboy hats have patterns; how about those... The thing with color is is that you'll have to mind how it reflects on your skin tone and the amount of attention it can grab from viewers (imagine a black suit with red accents and a red hat; what will people be looking at?..).
Loved the video, Antonio! I’m partial to the flat cap as it’s the one that frames my face the best, although I have been guilty of switching to baseball caps if it gets unseasonably hot out. I wanted to point out another thing on the history of flat caps for anyone that’s interested and it’s that when the English law was passed requiring these caps to be worn, men with money were able to pay a small fee to wear a different hat. This has been credited with the historical association the flat cap has with the working class (in Britain at least). David Hume wrote about this somewhere in his volumes on the History of England (had to read one of them for a class back in undergrad) although I don’t think many people would call the cap he wore in his portrait painting “stylish” haha.
Thank you for the shout-out to Akubra, they're a brand I swear by. I own several hats made by them, though mostly dress hats (namely the Stylemaster and the Bogart), and my father is a lifelong loyal customer of theirs as were both of my grandfathers. Mind you, in my neck of the woods at least, when people think of Akubra, they tend to think of the Snowy River, which is typically khaki in colour, has no liner and has that sort of cowboy/stockman look, with the brim curved somewhat at the sides.
Despite the title of this video, I think it's also important to recognize that women can wear these hat styles. I regularly like to wear my own flat cap, beanie, or fedora. Granted, some fabrics and patterns are more feminine than others. In today's fashion culture, it's only another sign that the line separating female from male designs continues to blur.
I got a couple of Homburg hats I wear regularly. My Fedora is for formal occasions only as it's a wide brim. A Panama and a Australian mesh hat for summer, along with a paper fiber Trilby and a Pork Pie. Add in a Black felt Hasidic hat and a canvas Fedora for rain/snow. Two Ushankas for winter. This doesn't even include all the baseball caps I use only when I attend games. Maaan... I got a lot of hats 😂
I love my ushanka. Being a truck driver from Montana it's one of the best for staying warm while being unique and stylish. And it creates a great laugh if you can do the accent to claim you're looking for moose and squirrel.
You didn't mention the Kepi, famously seen in French foreign legion films like Beau Geste. However, the back panel keeps the sun off the neck. Thus, making this type of hat good for boating and sailing when there's little shade to hide from a hot summer sun.
I have a Panama hat that I bought thirty years ago that is still looking good. It has a plain tan ribbon sewn on, so I cover it with a colored one, usually a red tone, the type of hat ribbon with hooks on the ends. I love the hat and wear it daily in the summer. I call it my 'Barney Fife' hat as it looks like the one he wore when off duty on the Andy Griffith Show. Had someone call from their car a couple of months ago, asking what that kind of hat was called. He then said that I "rocked it." In the last couple of years, I've started wearing a maroon porkpie in the winter. Talking about needing confidence for a hat. Took a couple of years to get brave enough to wear it due to the color, but now I really like it and am sorry when it gets too hot for it. (I live in the Sonoran Desert.)
For moderate cold weather, I wear a solid color tam with matching pom~pom. It is not unusual to receive compliments from strangers. Plus when meeting people, I can be recognized a block away.
Great video! Congrats, Antonio! To me Fedoras and Panamas are the basis of all headwear. Would love to hear your thoughts about the Homburg, though (I’m getting more and more into them lately).
There are so many different versions of that hat that you need to be a bit more specific. Im not being a troll I’m simply asking for a better description of what you mean because I’m interested in getting one of these hats. There are times when I must dress formally in the dead of winter and desperately need a warm head covering that goes with formal wear. Cheers mate
Good video, lots of info and exactly what I was looking for. Personal favorite was seeing his own personality break out of the raw data a few time. It was a nice piece of opal, and my man's loves his hats.
Very informative, thorough, and entertaining. Didn't leave a like or dislike because I feel you could have left comments comments separating young from older. Elders are not without style or class.
I really like the pork pie. One of the few types of hats that actually looks decent on me. Fedoras just look bad on me and I hate baseball caps/trucker hats, so it's flat caps and pork pies for me, though after watching this video I might try a panama.
I wore a derby for 45 years in the winter time as well as a wool cap. summer a Panama, been a hat man all my life plus baseball caps. There is a great hat company in St. Louis, LEVINE Hat Co, been there a long time and a very large selection too.
Hey Antonio, great video and channel ! I just found you and sure glad I did. Like you, I was born and raised in West Texas, not far from Midland. I was watching this remembering how specific hats were growing up out there. Stetson, Bailey and baseball hats. Still, I love Panama hats and Fedoras. Wish the 40’s-50’s styles would come back. Thx for sharing !
Perfect! Perfect level of detail to introduce wearing hats and styles. If you get into it, there can be a lot you can learn about each style. Good hat shops can be hard to find (I like Village Hat Shop) -- Where did you make this video? I missed seeing that in the video.
I LOVE Goorin Bros hats, I own 3 of them and I wear them all the time. I have the Colonel Pierce, the River Gray, and one of the Animal farm hats. Loved seeing them in your video!
If you want to try out your first hat, i'd recommend going with a trilby. Wear it, see how it feels. If you feel confident wearing it, you can go on with something bolder, like the panama.
You missed the Homburg, in the 20-30’S it was a more upscale hat, it can be see in “the thin man” and “Sabrina.” 40s-50s it was supplanted by the popularity and screen time of the fedora, it was a lower scale option (think BMW vs Toyota.)
Damn Devil Dog.....you doubled your viewership of this video in one day! Good for you! I'm just wondering the name of the hat store you showcased in the video. We don't have those here in South Florida.
Yes I’ve been waiting for this video. Started really loving hats over the last few years. Saw my grandfather wearing on Wehen he was younger plus Brain Sakawa has been wearing them in some of his vids and I really love the look!!!

I recently started wearing a bowler. Love it and get plenty of compliments. I really wish they would come back into fashion.
I love my ushanka. Being a truck driver from Montana it's one of the best for staying warm while being unique and stylish. And it creates a great laugh if you can do the accent to claim you're looking for moose and squirrel.
I wonder how many got it...russian spies on Rocky and Bullwinkle show
panama akubra and flatcaps are my favorites
i like that you go over street wear respectfully, a lot of style channels tend to diss on urban styles
Thanks for the video, sir. I really needed this hat guide more than ever now because of my health conditions. Cheers!
Fantastic video! I have a fedora from Urban Pipeline ... and I wear it whenever I can.
You didn't mention the Kepi, famously seen in French foreign legion films like Beau Geste. However, the back panel keeps the sun off the neck. Thus, making this type of hat good for boating and sailing when there's little shade to hide from a hot summer sun.
In the US, it makes ppl think of Civil War (both sides).
He then said that I "rocked it."
In the last couple of years, I've started wearing a maroon porkpie in the winter.
Wow, I was really wondering what a hat was so I’m super glad it was explained so early into the video. I thought it was something for your feet.
You are amazing Antonio. This is such a great review
Great video! Congrats, Antonio!
To me Fedoras and Panamas are the basis of all headwear. Would love to hear your thoughts about the Homburg, though (I’m getting more and more into them lately).
Stetson Stratoliner "Pure" Tobacco and Phantom gray 🤠
Wore an Astrackan for years. Looks good with with a long formal overcoat.
There are so many different versions of that hat that you need to be a bit more specific. Im not being a troll I’m simply asking for a better description of what you mean because I’m interested in getting one of these hats. There are times when I must dress formally in the dead of winter and desperately need a warm head covering that goes with formal wear. Cheers mate
I have an Akubra ,Snowy River,
its awesome this channel has a video for every problem
I don’t know if anyone’s told you, but thank you for your service.
really enjoyed myself watching this video.
Fedoras can be winter headwear, too...in particular fedoras that have a fold-down ear flap such as the Tilley Montana.
The trilby is just so stylish
Excelent explanation, the trilby rules!
Great video. Very very thorough! Would love to see your recommendations on face shape/hat shape.
Cheers
Good video, lots of info and exactly what I was looking for. Personal favorite was seeing his own personality break out of the raw data a few time. It was a nice piece of opal, and my man's loves his hats.
Amazing video didn’t realize soo many great hats. Thanks
Cheers Antonio & Buster HKeaton was a legend 🤘😎👍
Very informative, thorough, and entertaining.
Didn't leave a like or dislike because I feel you could have left comments comments separating young from older. Elders are not without style or class.
Good video. Always wanted to buy a proper hat, but been having problems finding the right one.
I really like the pork pie. One of the few types of hats that actually looks decent on me. Fedoras just look bad on me and I hate baseball caps/trucker hats, so it's flat caps and pork pies for me, though after watching this video I might try a panama.
A picture of Lester Young wearing a pork pie hat. Very impressive.
I wore a derby for 45 years in the winter time as well as a wool cap. summer a Panama, been a hat man all my life plus baseball caps. There is a great hat company in St. Louis, LEVINE Hat Co, been there a long time and a very large selection too.
"Say my name....." ".......Pork Pie" " YOU'RE GODDAMN RIGHT IT IS!"
Thumbs up for the Stromey Kromer! I love mine.
I love wear Trilby hat and I'm getting into the newsboy hat and thank you
Antonio,thanks,for your videos!
I love to whatch them, fedora is my favorite hat( from Russia with love)
Perfect! Perfect level of detail to introduce wearing hats and styles. If you get into it, there can be a lot you can learn about each style. Good hat shops can be hard to find (I like Village Hat Shop) -- Where did you make this video? I missed seeing that in the video.
Perfect video. Do you have a tip for shot men with long straight hair?
Dude, Your Way 2 Intense 4 Me!
I LOVE Goorin Bros hats, I own 3 of them and I wear them all the time. I have the Colonel Pierce, the River Gray, and one of the Animal farm hats. Loved seeing them in your video!
Shout to the Blue Mountains, Amazing place.
Good video. You didn't cover the Homburg however. I thought it may have come up when you were explaining the Bowler.
I prefer the flat brimmed straw hat or Amish style hat. Great for sun protection and looks stylish with my overalls.
If you want to try out your first hat, i'd recommend going with a trilby. Wear it, see how it feels. If you feel confident wearing it, you can go on with something bolder, like the panama.
Baseball cap has distinct quality variations ::
Fitted cap
Semi-fitted with elastic in the band
Adjustable cloth strap
Adjustable plastic strap
You missed the Homburg, in the 20-30’S it was a more upscale hat, it can be see in “the thin man” and “Sabrina.” 40s-50s it was supplanted by the popularity and screen time of the fedora, it was a lower scale option (think BMW vs Toyota.)
Very informational
The TAM
I love the submariner 😊
Damn Devil Dog.....you doubled your viewership of this video in one day! Good for you! I'm just wondering the name of the hat store you showcased in the video. We don't have those here in South Florida.
Greek Fisherman's Cap: not a bad step away from the baseball cap if you want something with a bit more flair than driver's or newsboy.
You missed the two Best stetson styles that are versatile. “The open road” and the “Statoliner” . These are cross over western/fedoras.
Great run down of styles.
Great video Antonio noticed you were holding a Longhorns hat are you from Austin?
what store are you in in that video? What is their website?
I need watching this video... thumbs up 👍
Yes I’ve been waiting for this video. Started really loving hats over the last few years. Saw my grandfather wearing on Wehen he was younger plus Brain Sakawa has been wearing them in some of his vids and I really love the look!!!
Easy to find stormy Kromers in Michigan!
Hats paradise!!! 🧢👒🎩🎓🤩👌🏻
I love hats. You forgot cycling caps ☺️and a real panama is rolled in a tube and they are amazing.
.....and cost only a couple of thousand bucks !
@@mikehoare6093 there is no price on style
I’d like to see your take on the Homburg
Excellent job! Thank you!
I often feel your uploads are very basic but this video actually has a lot of interesting information
Awesome - which of these hats is your favorite?
@@RealMenRealStyle Trilby please

The medium crown and 7cm brim is the perfect all season hat
It’s that classic 40s fedora
