- The Campbell Designed Chunky Toe features a mechanical spring in place of its stringer. What is a mechanical spring? We have no idea, and they won't tell us as the patent is still pending. But, we're about to find out if it works.
Surfer: 5'5 x 135
Board: 5'4 x 18.5 x 2.06 x 22.6
This dude is progressively turning into a semi pro free surfer as the episodes go on..
Enjoy watching you surf. I like that you show the attempts as well as the makes.
That’s pretty sick how you’re giving out your number to peeps who just wanna talk gear. Mad props
got a Campbell Designed Exoflex Sacrofishal not long ago.. funnest board I've ridden. will definitely be adding another one to the quiver soon
Did you end up getting this? I wonder how well it grovels. I surf east coast us and sometimes go to Puerto Rico mostly waist to 2’ overhead where I’m at though
“Joyride is back!” 👍🏼
Crazy to see you at my home break man never expected that
Looks amazing, it seems to generate a lot of fun...I hope I could try one those in Brazil...
Hi Mate, thanks for your positive comment we’ve had amazing feed back and do ship internationally
@CAMPBELL DESIGNED Can you deliver to Rep of Ireland?
Spent a few years away fro SoCal and lived/surfed on the East Coast. The stretch you're surfing was always among my favorites! If it were only more consistent I would have stayed.
Your style is so sick Michael!
ive been missing these
Looks like a really fun board and a perfect choice for my surfing progression and to make my board collection a quiver instead of my single board :D
Great innovation that we can all appreciate. Michael makes great use of this technology, and has me ready to secure a Campbell Designed " Surfboard."
Hi Derek, thanks for your comment. We’ve had nothing but positive feed back from everyone who has ridden one so far.
That board looked great under your feet.
got to love some joyride
Great review!
looks insane!!
Found that leash string trick the hard way I’m talkin huge dings
Mechanical Spring? I call it bullshit. Even a normal wood stringer when loaded is a mechanical spring... Must be just a carbon fiber stringer or carbon fiber stringer rod they just market it to sell more boards. But hey, still a surfboard in the end of the day.
Yep, semantics
Yup . Groove where the stringer is. Twist carbon cloth push it in and resin.
Maybe it's more of a "springer" and less of a stringer? Bert Burger has talked a lot about these as an alternative to a stringer. Stringers were added to boards to give them rigidity and I guess that's when boards started snapping...like a green banana. Springers are more strategically placed and in theory would flex and recoil more. A lot of companies experimenting with different foams, carbon, etc to get the same effect.
You can call it what you like, Nick Carroll reviewed two boards of ours over 2 months in a variety of big and small conditions and called it the tech of the century on Surfline!
@@carmig00 oh nice interesting name for your tech. What’s your surfboards called? And your experience? I’ve hand shaped over 25,000 boards since 1974
Awesomeness yes awesomeness.... THXXX!!!
i have tried out some of the other cambell designs boards but looking forward to hopefully getting to try out some of these exo flex boards
and they are insane
Did you end up trying this board? Curious how well it grovels….east coast US surfer here
Love the spotburn aspect of this video. Spotburn everywhere you go.
No one gives a shit about your closeout crappy beachie
@@KieferSmokerland facts
@@KieferSmokerland thanks Mikey.
@@KieferSmokerland I live there and I don't even give a shit
Fr especially at that spot out of literally anywhere else in nj
I didn’t know there was another way to put on the leash rope I’ve always done this
Can we have Danny Johnson do one of these pleassaeasesseseesese
Confused af why youre surfing in manasquan
Jenks
sick as!!
As what
Call it the springboard
Hey Mikey when was this filmed? Looks like fall
Good tip I don't know how many people I see trying to damage their rails doing this the wrong way.
PS Add an inch to your boards for every decade over 30yo. Everyone gets old and nobody gets younger.
Nj baby!!!!!
Best job in the world so jealous 😸
its just a layered carbon fiber stringer
Looked fun!
sick
Sick
Great review, will love to test one in Puerto Rico
How’d this board go if you got it?
@@harrisondemeritt they are hard to get in PR, so I got the Seaside, which I love
@@ODL957 Hows that board hold up through the winter? can it handle OH surf well?
@@harrisondemeritt it can but you gain so much speed that it can be tough to control some time. Also depend on the wave type. If the wave is too shallow/steep versus a less steep wave. But I have to say that I love the board. Probably my favorite board out of the other 7 that I have.
Cool
The Troll Surfs. How old are you little man. LoL 😂😂😂😂😂
Sounds like Los Porcos
Looking like Jersey.
I was thinking the same thing.
Thank god we didn’t have to watch Gravy on another soft top.
Board looked sluggish, like he really had to pump it, to get it to not bog down.
Do the umber driiver xl lost please

Ppl take their string out ?
Update: Here is the link to Patent where they describe the technology in detail:
patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/detail.jsf?docId=AU293054139&_cid=P11-L269WK-74870-1
Stab teaching people to pull out their phones and film at every surf check and then teaching them how to tie their leash string. Reaching for the bottom of the barrel.
Anyone know the name of the song that starts at 6:55? Shazam is freaking out
Ah mate
Yew
whats the first song?
Are cambell still doing the board giveaway?
It's already been won mate
@@campbelldesigned damn, thanks for the info
What the..
A normal stringer is a mechanical spring... This might just be more BS marketing. I reckon it'll just be a carbon stringer or something similar.
Thought the same. Probably the reason they did not actually show a cross section
External looks can be deceiving, there is a whole lot more going on inside which is what makes it unique and different. And as for your call of us just using BS marketing I will also refer you to Nick Carroll’s Surfline article where after extensive testing he referred to it as the most exciting and effective piece of surfboard engineering this century let alone this year!
@@campbelldesigned Well I'll certainly have a read and stand to be corrected. Though this video certainly doesn't help. Deliberate lack of explanation in it isn't exactly encouraging a belief that the tech in the board is significantly different from what's already out there.
@@DanVal4 I honestly thought that they were going to cut the thing in half at the end to see what the marketing is covering up.
@@grakkerful Haha I was hoping they would too
where is this
Nj !!!
Don’t come
Kind of looks like you were losing some speed at the top of some waves.
