yeah but this guy surfs smaller boards often. You can tell. Dont think you can see a true longboarden transition that fast and will on high performance short boards
To me, this is what an all rounded surfer is. Throw any board at him and he'll perform. Maybe the most complete surfer these days. Maybe Rastovich can be in that ball park too, or even Mikey Febs. Now, put most CT surfers on a classic log and just watch them fall flat on their stomach as they try to bottom turn to hit the lip...
Love this guy’s style. Instead of being super quick and squirrelly he waits, sets up for the perfect section, then absolutely DESTROYS the lip! Sick video🤙🏽
Clever idea stab. I was very surprised at the ease of his transition, his feet looked in the right spot after moving heavy foam, he looked at ease carving as well. I’ve found the transition back to smaller boards quite hard, your paddle power greatly diminished, positioning the take-off gets awkward etc. I would’ve liked to hear how he found that experience. Did he get less waves for example, or try to hunt down a peak that he’d normally catch with more foam but couldn’t get there with 27 litres? Otherwise, solid delivery.
Wow, Harrison, that was some of the most beautiful power and style surfing I have ever seen. And the excellent photography and music make this one of my favorite surf movies of all time. The level of agility, acceleration, and high speed control you had on the JS was off the hook. I also like the way the level of performance worked up to a crescendo of rapid fire spiting tube rides, one after another. and that music. Really made this a unique entertaining experience. Best video I have seen from Stab in the dark. Harrison does rip but he also gets the concept, variety is the spice of life. Performance board, log, bodyboard, body surf, retro, windsurf, kitesurf, foilsurf doesn't matter but just tying yourself to one thing and you will eventually stop surfing. You can't be an expert at all of them and that's what you should embrace.
From 28 to 38 I shaped my own boards. Then bye accident I ran out of boards at a beach break known for breaking boards in mexico. Bye chance a guy showrd up with a 6'4" rawson so I bought it. On my first ride coming over the foamball I realized I had spent the best athletic yeasrs of my surfing carear on subpar boards this reminds me pf this sad very sad😂😂😅🏄
9:35 that's the biggest problem with FCS2, but mostly because of how much strain popping them in puts on the glass just behind the fins. I've had 5 boards with FCS2 and 4 have got cracks at the back of the fin boxes within a month of use. One of them cracked right through to the foam and started taking on water, but to be fair that one was well-used when I bought it. The annoying thing is, as much as I like the idea of screw-less fins, pretty much everyone I know uses at least one screw with FCS2 anyway (lost a couple fins in the water before I started using screws myself), so the locking mechanism is totally unecessary.
Great vid stab and interesting concept. Now try the reverse concept with someone like Wade Carmichael on a log , fish and singlefin gun. That would be very entertaining.
Having not surfed for 40 years I'm amazed at the surfing on today's boards. My last board was a 6'10 round pin mini gun, took at least 3-4' Hawaii measure to get it up to speed. Could hold 6 to 8 plus and stable in the tubes but nothing in the turning dept like thrusters.
Nice vid. Interesting take away. The performance boards allowed him to surf technically better and would allow him to make more difficult waves, but he prefers the added difficulty of low performing equipment. This guy rips on all of it, but it supports my confusion about why low performance equipment has gotten so popular with surfers who struggle enough without needing added difficulty.
@@TheTravelingTogetherJournal I don't think the term 'low performing equipment' really suits what you're talking about. He's an incredible surfer and he wants to feel different sensations on a wave. A log isn't 'low performing'... It's high performing if you want to get a noseride... You don't hop on an old school twin fin if you want to be shredding like John John and yet it has something different: looseness and skatey-ness. It's worth recognizing that not all of his alt boards are logs, he rides single and twin fin shortboards and had quite a few in his quiver
