A Closed Ecosystem With Extreme Biodiversity

  • In this video I show you how to make an ecosphere. For this closed ecosystem I challenged my self to make an ecosphere with as much biodiversity as possible. I added almost 20 different plants and countless of locally sourced animals. There were quite a few crustaceans in there that I had never seen before. Enjoy!

Because of you, I gathered 5 of my grandkids and had them each make their own ecosphere! They are loving it! I had them get the water from their own pond! I have to admit, I have an ulterior motive though! I'm hoping once they see critters in their jars, they will no longer want to swim in the pond! Thanks for the inspiration!

What region (don't be too specific)? I couldn't imagine making something like this in central Cali but if you look back at his videos it has taken him years to be able to balance out an ecosystem properly and even still it can be hit or miss. Keep trying and you will find your magic pond! just do your research and maybe look into some local ecology studies to see what streams and rivers are the least polluted. Maybe look for waters that are the closest to their sources and if you can look for a spring or some brackish water (half salty, not 100% ocean water though). Keep us posted!

Because sometimes you may accidentally get some fatal fungi or plants or even parasites that flourish in very stagnant ecosphere like environments. There’s nothing really to ensure you are getting a great batch of soil or plants without it having something on it. But don’t despair. Keep trying your luck and find different ponds even ponds with running water has some awesome examples that thrive are are beautiful in eco environments. Also studying the diversity of plants, oxygen and nitrates in the water would get you a head start. I’m wanting to do a plant aquarium and plants really do make it or break it in the water depending. I’ve noticed amazing results with Bog plants btw! They are semi aquatic but small baby Bog plants do fantastic and create pockets of oxygen they are low maintenance and beautiful. Just be careful they don’t smother the other aquatic plants. Also I have a terrible thing for letting algae bloom. I think it’s beautiful but it does stink. Lol the kind I have clears the water it’s a type of fungi hair. It’s brilliant green of all shades and yes it’s terrible. XD

New macrospecies like lizards and birds have been seen evolving, in the timespan of a single researcher's stay on some island. Lots of small pond fish and things like moths have vastly different colouration, scale patterns, and sizes if you compare specimens from this year with ones from like, the 50s, even from the exact same place, too. So I suspect that if you got lucky and had a good eye for the changes you might get new species within more like ten years, not millions.

@@Lascupa0788 a professor I had in ecology had discovered that arctic charr in lakes seemed to start to split into different species, but he didn't want to call them different species and instead was fine with the morph term. Because if they would start calling all the different morphs new species, there would be at least three new species for almost every single lake in Norway and it would be way too much effort to catalogue. Sometimes I guess new species isn't always great haha
