Abbreviations
Ch - Chain
Ss - Slip Stitch
Dc - Double Crochet
Sk - Skip
Fo - Fasten off
Hdc - Half Double Crochet
hi guys! i wrote out the pattern so i could have it offline, but i figured i’d post it here too in case some of you want it! i hope it makes sense and i think that the video will be better for explaining the part about the strap. i’ve tried (and failed) like four different star bag patterns, and this is the only one that i could follow!! don’t give up, you’ll get the hang of it :)!
NOTES:
1. when you change color, insert into the stitch to the left of the one you FO on (the video has good visuals)! that’s why it tells you to ss into the next stitch if you keep the same color, because it puts you in the same stitch no matter if you switch colors or not
2. Parentheses are what you repeat
3. Square parentheses […] are stitches in the same hole
4. Key:
ch: chain
ss: slip stitch
dc: double crochet
sk: skip a stitch
FO: fasten off
hdc: half double crochet
Row 1: ch 6, ss into 1st ch, ch 3, dc 20, ss in 1st dc
Row 2: ch 2, (dc 3, ch2, dc 3, sk 3) x5, then ss in 1st dc. FO if you’re changing color; if not, ss again and ch 2
Row 3: (dc 2, [dc 3, ch 2, dc 3] dc 2, sk 2) x5, ss. FO if you’re changing color; if not, ss again and ch 2
Row 4: (dc 4, [dc 3, ch 2, dc 3], dc 4, sk 2) x5, ss. FO if you’re changing color; if not, ss again and ch 2
Row 5: (dc 6, [dc 3, ch 2, dc 3] dc 6, sk 2) x5, ss. FO if you’re changing color; if not, ss again and ch 2
Row 6: (dc 8, [dc 3, ch 2, dc 3] dc 8, sk 2) x5, ss. FO if you’re changing color; if not, ss again and ch 2
Row 7: (dc 10, [dc 3, ch 2, dc 3] dc 10, sk 2) x5, ss. FO if you’re changing color; if not, ss again and ch 2
Row 8: (dc 12, [dc 3, ch 2, dc 3] dc 12, sk 2) x5, ss. FO if you’re changing color; if not, ss again and ch 2
If you want to keep going, just increase the dcs that aren’t in the […] by 2 (Ex: row 9 would be “(dc 14, [dc 3, ch 2, dc 3] dc 14, sk 2) x5, ss. FO if you’re changing color; if not, ss again and ch 2.” I just made the dc 12s dc 14s.)
Otherwise, FO and make another one.
Place stars wrong side facing each other and sew the sides together, leaving one side open
Insert hook into one of the two points that make up the open side (this part is hard to explain so the video will be better) and hdc 6. Turn your work and continue making rows of hdc 6 until your strap is long enough. FO and sew it to the other side of the star.

Def need specific written notes. Such as when you switch to purple it is difficult to tell WHICH stitch you’re going into

for the first part insted of chaining 6 and then a ss i did a magic ring and chained three and then dc 20 it worked exactly the same

Hey everyone, i notice most of us are confused with row 2 because i know i was. After taking about 20 minutes in figuring it out basically theres 6 double crochets in each point, so 3 dc chain 2 and 3 more dc in the same point. I hope this helps! I had to do something similar like this when crocheting a heart pillow!!

When crochet influencers put videos that say beginner friendly, the thought is you are able to do simple stitches 🪡 and follow directions.
What helps me is fullscreen. And then zooming in. Then i can control the view.
Awesome video helped me out so much! I’m almost done with the first panel. Also for those of you having trouble what’s in the parenthesis pertains to the corners of the star and the stitches outside are those leading to and after them for example when they switched to purple she did two dc total not in the same stitch leading up to the corner then she put parenthesis of how many stitches are in the corner and leading after
I personally don’t really know how to read crochet charts and stuff but I understood this one somehow :) I just rewatched it a couple of times and began to understand it’s easy after you learn to follow the instruction text and the visual gives you an idea of what it’s supposed to look like at each stage

someone pls help it's not working for me at all, i can get to the beginning part with the circle but once i start to try to make the 5 points it doesnt work I know i had 20 dc's b4 but its not letting me get 5 points in to make the 5 points and it just looks sloppy someone pls help!!
Are you making sure you're only skipping 3 stitches in between the point clusters cause it's easy to skip 1 extra

There is no border, there just sewn

@@bowerbirdcollected in the first row you say to slip stitch into the first double crochet but its going into the ch 3, and im trying to start the second row and you say to double crochet into a previous single crochet but a single crochet was not included in the pattern and im struggling to see which stich you placed it into due to your hands and the speed, but ill continue on and see how i go :)

i'm a beginner and it was pretty easy you just need to rewind a bit and count the stitches

Yep just use a bigger hook and the bag will be bigger

are you including the ch 3 in the first row in as a dc ? so is it a ch 3 + 20 dc or 19 dc?
honestly i dont think it made much of a difference either way as long as theres the correct amount in the second row
The chain 3 is counted as a dc so make 19 more. An easier way would be to do a magic circle and put 20 dc in it, it'd still turn out the same.
What if im using a skinnier yarn do i still dc 20?
Yes the bag will just be smaller and you csn add more rows if you want
