This is an excellent video. I recently bought an SE Mira, and just love it, especially the double cut vibe. The Mira has the 85-15S pickups. Not as chimey as the Starla, but very versatile. It's my first PRS, and am so impressed with the quality. The split coil tones are great on both guitars. Now thinking about selling my Epi Les Paul and get a Starla. Great, informative review
Love the review! I own the exact guitar and really enjoy playing it. The build quality is all PRS. I build custom guitars and am totally impressed with the Starla.
I got one today at a place here in Elk Grove Ca. Called Music Go Round. I traded 4 guitars for this one Starla. Best deal I made. She plays better than the 4 I traded Her for. Thank You a Great Review. Keep up the GREAT Work.
I agree largely but I think starla is a duo jet and McCarty is a Gibson. I have both and love both but the starla is a lot punchier/ brighter than an lp imho
Single cut for Les Paul. Starla has a great sound on clean with Fender or Vox style amps. In between sound. My only gripe with this review is they didn’t have the same sparkling sound other reviews had. I’m not sure why.
Right now they go for around 550 dollars (late 2023). It's a real bargain for that price! But it really is closer to a Strat than to a Les Paul. Very versatile pop and rock-guitar - and for studio sessions. Now for metal players though.
The pickups sound different and better on certain amps and IR’s the more I experiment. So if someone doesn’t like the sound try a different setting on the amp, pedals, or try a different amp, patch or different IR etc. There is a great sound demo on You Tube using a PRS Amp IR thru Kemper and plays different styles with all pickup configurations and it sounded terrific. He went from Jazz, Blues, to old rock and it definitely sounded terrific.
Hey Brian, How would you compare this guitar with the Custom 24? Specifically, how do those 85/15s pickups compare with the Starla’s in a worship setting? Keep the Worship videos coming! Thanks.
This Review is exactly how a review should be. Excellent. Thank you! I own Several of the PRS Santana SE guitars and I am so impressed with them. Would love to see you review other Budget/workingman's guitars. Harley Benton? Reverend? ALSO, I'm building a Suhr Ian Thornley clone. That guitar is way too expensive, but like the Starla very versatile. Any suggestions on a budget level offset(jazzmaster) guitar that I could start with? J Mascis signature? Thanks
@@worshiptutorials SE, I definitely can’t afford a core model🤣. But it sounds and looks and plays amazing, exactly the tone and feel I was looking for.
I've been hesitant to pull the trigger on this exact same model, but I'm worried about the neck. I don't have a store nearby to try this out in. Is the glossed neck sticky, and do you think it would be okay for someone with smaller hands? Thanks for covering this guitar!
I had a Core Starla, walnut color with black guard. Nice guitar but the neck was just chunkier than I like. My hands are on the smaller size too and I ended up selling it. If you have smaller hands that favor a Strat C shape, this may be thicker than you like. I’d try one before you buy if possible.
@@bluzzjazz I appreciate your input. That's a bit of a bummer - I'm definitely more used to a C shape from my acoustics and was hoping it wouldn't be too drastic of a difference. Unfortunately I don't have a store close by with these in stock so I've been on the hunt for reviews and opinions. Cheers!
PRS necks are very nice. I have never once played one that felt chunky. As for the painted neck, while I do prefer an unfinished neck, I have never ever had a problem with PRS's paint. I have owned and played SE, S2, CE (unpainted), and Core models. Not once was the painted neck and issue, even when my hands get sticky/sweaty from playing. My primary guitars now are a CE24, S2 Custom 24, and S2 594 McCarty Thinline. I can switch between the different neck profiles, scales, and finishes without even noticing. PRS guitars are great. In every price point they will be at the top of their class. Ignore the hate you may hear on forums, it's total garbage. Everything they make is world class, professional quality. I know because I'm a semi professional player with 30 years experience under my belt.
@@justlearning9173 Good luck on the search. I still have two PRSs, one is from the PRS Experience 2012 show. Amazing guitar, has a Private stock neck with Eagle inlay, the neck is more to what I am used to. The other is a Wood Library DGT model with a Korina neck that is chunkier than my other one and took me awhile to get used to but now I love it! On the flip side, I could never bond with RICs because the ones I tried, the necks were too thin and narrow. I'll stop now because I can on about guitars all day!
I’ve had both Alex (you can see them on my channel). The 245 pickups are richer/fuller and there’s no coil split. That said if you roll the volume off you get great clean tones. The 245 is a chunkier guitar. They’re both fantastic but overall, I’d go with the 245
Reviewing a guitar using the Axe FX is definitely not a good idea. First, it's pretty inaccesible for most (considering this is a budget guitar). Second, it doesn't allow for the pure natural tone of the guitar.

You won't regret selling the epi for the starla if you choose to.
I'd be all over it if they slapped a Bigsby on it. Was not aware that the American made Starlas originally came with one. Such a cool little axe!
This guitar is at the nearest pawnshop to me. Normally prices at $1200 Aus it's on $660. This video helped me decide. I am going to get it.
I own the sea foam green model and love it. Light weight and very versatile. Fun guitar.
You are "Humble and Nice Person" Brian....Keep it like that and the Audiences would not boring to watching your video. Cheers
Thank you!

I have been eyeing one of these for a long time now. Just got to get the funds.
Here’s my take:
SE Mira for Gibson SG vibe
SE Silver Sky for strat vibe
SE Vela for hybrid of Gretsch Jet & Tele
SE Starla for Les Paul vibe

I have the S2 in white...so great and so versatile
Great review Brian, thanks! Wonderful production quality. Look forward to the mentioned possible maintenance videos.
Would love to see y'alls take on the PRS Vela. I've been able to get some great tones from mine, the neck pickup has so much character clean.

Now that's how you open a guitar review!
I bought one based on your demo. Thanks
You need to ask CME for a commission from the sale of these Closeout Starla’s. I went to their website and bought one after watching this video.
I wish we could :). Hope you enjoy the guitar!
Thank you. I just ordered one, same color too.
Hey guys great video. Id love to see a review of the S2 Starla, or even an older Core Starla.

How does the SE Starla compare to the S2 McCarty 594 Singlecut?
I have one and absolutely LOVE it!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks a lot for this video! This guitar it’s absolutely amazing.
One question, what kind of pick are using you?
Thanks again
I play one of these on the regular! I got the Frost Green version.
I really like that color on these
I have that too. For the price it's an excellent guitar

playing sample 2 was sooo good
Awesome , Thanks Dude !
Fantastic review! Very comprehensive. Thanks :)
Hopefully you still see these messages a year later. But this is a great demo. What upgrades would you do to it if you wanted to/could?
Whats your signal chain on the Axe FX 3, Brian?
Hello, what gauge strings did you have on that PRS Starla in this recording?
Hey Brian why do you try Relish guitar? They are awesome!!!!
Never tried one but they look cool for sure
@@worshiptutorials do try them please I want to know if they are worth for p&w

I think I’ve been sold on this lol
Awesome review. What’s the amp and pedals used and the set up? Can you please mention ?

I like PRS quality but the necks are always too chunky for me. I stick to SGs and Strats unless I come across a 60s slim neck les paul.

Lambertone Cremas in the Starla? Anyone?

Amazing.....now imagine if the guitar was in tune....
Just got a mint condition for $480... nice
Nothing wrong with that split neck tone.
We need to redefine the word “budget” apparently. Sick guitar though.
One word: inflation. If your “budget” is still in the lines of Squier Bullet or Glarry, then you’re going nowhere.
Why does Prs paint almost every neck? Do they just have too much paint they need to get rid of?

Just can’t do the birds man. It’s a shame this guitar can’t be bought without those birds.
Why would you like a guitar brand that has bird inlays as its signature look then say you don’t like the birds? You know there’s other guitar brands?
how can we hear how the guitar sounds w/all that reverb & chorus ?
