I’m not a PRS guy in anyway, but at that price it would be hard to pass that up I’ll say that much! A PRS at a Squier price can’t be a bad thing that’s for sure.
My favorite PRS pre-covid was always the $499 PRS SE Standard 24. Then the price jumped to $650 and was almost the same as the Custom 24 pre-covid. Glad to see they have another $499 option, eventhough they had to cut costs by using a bolt-on neck instead o set-neck.
I’m a gigging guitarist, old enough to grow up in the heyday of Gibson, Fender, Epiphone, Gretsch, etc. But in 2024, PRS guitars have released me from the stronghold of the vintage brands that my idols played. The statement “ I’m no PRS guy” is one of someone that has not played many of these instruments. They’ve become simply the best guitar on the market today,…you pick your price point, and spend some time with it, you’ll see what I mean! Cheers.
What I've noticed is that guitarists tend to be illogically sentimental. As a new guitarist who picked it up as a COVID hobby, I had no prior brand loyalties or affiliations and PRS is where my heart landed. Along the way I tried all the classic offerings from Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, Schecter, etc. And I still own those but I really think nobody makes a better guitar in 2024 than PRS. And the crazy thing is my 800 dollar SE Swamp Ash Special gets played more than my 15,000 dollar Private Stock. And they feel equally as playable. The quality is just otherworldly, especially for the SE price point. I think as new generations of guitarists come up, you will see less Gibson and Fender and more PRS. Most people who play those brands often have guitar heroes or family that played them, so thats just what they got brought into. For someone like me who has no guitar heroes and chose simply based on the quality, the spec and the aesthetics, PRS is king.
@lbguitar To each their own, maybe I've been unlucky, but I've never actually played a PRS that had a neck profile I've liked and have been through tons from varying price points (no private stock). Probably why there are multiple brands still in business. All my heroes played fender/gibson, I don't. I feel like gretsch gets overlooked a lot, but also realize those aren't for everyone either. Not actually sure why I'm even replying, just don't get the huge hard on everyone has for PRS I guess.
@mronlinedad8601 That's fair enough, preferences exist for sure. There are certainly some PRS guitars that I didn't get along with either but the build quality was always excellent. I'm sure there are some shifty PRSs out there too but I just don't see them or hear about them as often. I've always wanted to try a gretsch!
I'm willing to bet that someone in some meeting at PRS at *some* point or another someone actually said the words "Let's do what Gibson does - but in reverse". A reputable guitar brand known for their hyper artisan expensive guitars that not only keeps their affordable import line at stable prices but even expends it with a new modell at the absolute bottom price for name brand guitars and still manages to keep all the key features and specs of the original?! what kind of sorcery is this?!
Good pertinent comment because epi & gibi's market share will head south, if it isn't already. They will run out of ammo if they don't wise up to what's going on in Indo.
I believe PRS is as big as it is Gibson with quality control. As of late, PRS is not as overpriced against Gibson as it once was. The Gibson PRS clone is a Floyd Rose quilt top Les Paul for $5,000. The PRS 10 tops are $500 more and the non 10 tops are $300 less. The customs to customs are about the same price.
I'm not a PRS person.. never found one i liked... but i tried this one and loved it.. bought it immediately. The bridge and term are very nice. easy and fun to play.
Cortek, MII , no surprizes here. It will be interesting to see what they cost here, in Indo. There is some cartel type behaviour occurring here, with certain very well known international brands, the usual suspects you know well.
Looks and sounds incredible. That's an awesome guitar, definitely. You don't find many higher quality guitars in that price range. Great job Hunter and PRS !!
I just became a PRS convert, after playing shredd machines for 30 years, I got a custom 24.... And if this new model is built like my last year's made custom 24, then this Ce will be amazing.
I've never even tried an SE, I own two core custom 24's, and they are just amazing. I've never understood why some people say that PRS guitars have no soul, mine sound beautiful. I love the big necks, and the 57/08 pickups sound killer. As someone who would only play American, or Japanese guitars for years, I've begun to like cheaper guitars? I have recently bought an Epiphone, something that I would never have done before, and those new PRS SE's look great, and I wish my wife would let me buy more guitars, but I think she'd beat me to death with it if I did?
I will more than likely get one of these. I lost 2 PRSs in a house fire in 2020 that we were grossly underinsured for and the payout went to things more important than gear.
Loved PRS since going through hundreds of guitars and brands trying to find “the one.” My Korean SE Custom 24 I bought new in 2012 has been a machine for over a decade. Played daily, shows, recorded…just a machine. My Ibanez prestige is my #2.
I love that track, the first part was very A7X, then the clean was almost as if tool played a song in the same key as ONE, & the last bit felt kinda like something from disturbed.
As a first time viewer for your channel and no wonder PRS sent you the guitar. Can’t believe you don’t have as many people subscribed. Everything about the coverage and your amazing guitar skills so on point. Can’t wait to see your next and I’m now subscribed!
Wow... These videos & demonstrations are on another level Agufish! PRS SE guitars really bunch above their weight & straight up, this guitar is my vibe! Great review & song demo 🔥
I had a feeling you were going to dig this guitar. I'm stoked to see the lefty SE Silver Sky models coming out this fall. I have a lefty SE 277 Baritone and it is wonderful.
If I recall correctly, Paul said that the bolt on necks actually took longer than set necks, can't remember why or what the actual reason the guitars cost less, but I remember him saying that in an interview and it surprised me
PRS made a $399 guitar 20 years ago called the Santana SE. I've written and recorded pretty much all of my songs with it. Best bang for buck electric guitar that has ever existed.
I got the turquoise one a few months ago. Decided to go for this than a squire strat and my first PRS. Have to say it feels great and haven't been able to put it down! No complaints yet
DUDE! You're absolutely right! Tbh, never liked a single PRS SE that I've played much. Everything from the DGTs, 594s to Custom 24s... Yes, they're all incredible guitars in their own right, but I kinda hated how they felt, so I always thought PRS guitars weren't for me... But damn, I almost bought this CE! It had some kinda magic to it that made it much better and more fun to play than the other SEs. Anywho! Been a fan for a while, and excited to see guitars I've actually played before pop up in your reviews every now and then haha! Keep doing what you do and kick ass! 🔥
I like this style of review where you let the guitar you inspire you to work on making music inspired by the feel you're getting from the guitar. I got the PRS SE Swamp Ash Special in Vintage Sunburst around Christmas time and at first, I really didn't like it. I think they did a lot less on that guitar with the wiring than they could have. In my opinion it needed a blade switch and / or more push pull pots. I almost just ordered one of these, or a CE 24 in gloss, or the new sandblasted. I really appreciated your honesty about the feel of the back of the neck. I grew up on a satin walnut Gibson The Paul (my first owned electric), but the neck was quickly hand oil glossed. I sent the Swamp Ash Special back even though it did start to inspire me some. I just couldn't rock with it, especially in the beginning. There was an Epiphone Les Paul 60's in Quilt Dark Honey at AMS that was the last one in stock. I had one at the same time as the Swamp Ash Special but the top sucked from certain angles and it went back as well. So, I'm trying again. I plan to get a SE CE 24 at some point soon and I will either paint the back of the neck or oil it if I decide to keep it. I got sick in 2019 and have done very little guitar work until recently and especially painting or other finishing. After I have spine surgery soon, I hope to get back to being able to paint and finish in the way I like to do it. The tactile feel of some of the SE necks just isn't my thing and maybe with a finish treatment of my liking on the neck, they will grow on me. In the beginning, the balance in my lap just didn't feel good as well. I guess it's all of the years of Les Paul's and Stratocasters that has me biased. Anyway, I watched the entire video and I like your style.
I recently acquired this guitar and it’s ridiculously underpriced. As far as quality control goes. It’s great. No un even frets. No twist in the neck. Stays in tune. And since Therese no poly choking the guitar. It’s sounds great. The only thing I’m mad about is it just shows how other companies are pricing their guitars. And I own a Majesty 😂.
All your demo noodling was giving me straight up Mark Tremonti vibes. That's the sound that made me fall in love with PRS's. Only thing stopping me was PRS not having a budget-friendly option
PRS is best in class across all price tiers . I own and have owned just about them all . The PRS CE 24 , the US version Is one of the best models out there at ANY price
I have a se 24-08 custom and love it! I play just for fun. The 24-08 with the coil taps + my katana 50 allow me to sounds like anyone and have hours on fun with it! Love PRS and would have totally invested in the CE standard when I was younger at that lower price point, instead of a meh Squire HSS strat
Great example of less is more. This model in that color, would be a great mod platform. For someone looking for classic looks with tons of potential for upgrades. This is hard to beat for the price. Some better looking tuners and a few electronics upgrades would give it a more modern metal twist. I've got enough spare parts lying around to completely gut one to the husk. Things that make you go, Hmm?
Dang. I love what PRS has done here and satin finishes are so comfortable. (My only stupid nitpick is I wish it had dot inlays… please don’t throw things at me).
Dude! Because of this video, I went into Guitar Center this week looking for the red version of this! I have 2 charcoal SEs already: the Paul's, and the Custom 24 Floyd, so I wanted a red one this time. They were sold out of that color. I picked up the Charcoal to just get the feel of this new version... surprisingly the first impression.... wasn't good. Maybe I just really wanted red. Well, I decided to wonder and see what guitars were on stands around the store... maybe someone had left a red one by an amp that they played it on? Low and behold! I found a Ruby Red Custom 24 LTD, listed on THAT LOCATION'S site at $849, but with clearance sticker of $599 on it!!! I plugged it in and INSTANTLY fell in love! My girlfriend (she is AWESOME AND SOON TO BE MY WIFE 😂) said "Get it!" She bought it for me for an early Father's Day gift! Only 100 more than I'd planned for the guitar in this video! Moral of the story? My woman is better than yours! 😂 (Also, check physical stores before purchasing online. EVERY online source (Amazon, etc) listed the guitar at $849. We saved $249 by getting out of the house. Btw: GREAT REVIEW!!¡ STILL MIGHT GET ONE EVENTUALLY 😉
I assume you dont like the Core Custom 24 for the same reason? I agree after playing satin and unfinished necks I like them the best, but admittedly my 2017 SE was the smoothest slickest gloss neck I ever played. My Core feels exactly the same.
I bought a 2017 PRS man. Love how the signature is inlaid into the headstock! This guitar as tons of tone! I been wanting to look at a SE 24 because mine has 22 frets but I haven't pulled the trigger yet I don't want to be disappointed. Once you had one of their best It makes me nervous I'll waste money. The only place I been looking is facebook market place though so that's why. I cant actually look at it up close and play it through an amp. The best guitar shops are 35 miles from here hehehe. I don't think I'll ever let this Guitar go!!!
Looks like the same exact guitar as my Mira. Only difference is the woods. Swamp Ash / Mahogany. There’s other wood differences as well but that’s about it. Same brown gig bag as well.
Before anyone buys this, they should go on reverb and check out the used prs se's. You can find mark Holcombs in great condition for 600 sometimes, not to mention all the other models for 350 - 500
I’ll admit, as a PRS player for more than 30 years now, I was very dismissive of the SE guitars when they first came out. The Zach Myers’s model v2 was my first intro to them and I really liked it. I’m definitely picking one of these up just to have something I can keep in a different tuning for when the heavy mood strikes. And it will sit right next to my Core and Private Stocks in my PRS rack. Also, NOT a dentist.
If I had known these were coming, I'd have waited for this rather than the regular SE CE 24. I like the satin finish on the body a lot more. I do love my SE CE 24, though. Especially the bolt on satin neck. I had the option to get the SE Paul's Guitar or 24-08, but the neck of the CE was the the thing for me.
Looks very decent for the price. Competes well against used guitars at the same or higher price. The “SE” label on a PRS is the sorta “kiss of death” that Squier label is to Fender. I own a ‘97 CE as well as an SE Torero - and was super impressed by the Torero, but while it looks fantastic, I just haven’t become attached to it. Was a $1k guitar new, and mine is mint condition - but had it up for sale for $500 for months and just no one interested. Kinda like selling one of the top level Squiers, no one wants to pay money for one. (It doesn’t help that the SE guitars were overstocked after the pandemic, and stores were slashing prices, but still, my Torero was cheaper than a new SE Custom, and the Torero is neck through, Floyd Rose, and active EMGs.) So yeah, this new SE CE is a nice addition to the lineup… but I see it as an affordable guitar you don’t have to worry about dinging it all up, or a step up from the $299 beginner guitars. Otherwise, a used SE Custom is about the same price or cheaper, and “looks” like a fancy PRS.
Been going down the prs train for the last year… bought a tremonti SE and… yeah the violin carve is not there… but the neck is awesome. It holds tuning… just great instruments. Apart from that : what about deep dive review of your esp usa custom eclipse purple splatter. !??😢😢
I have two fairly recent SE's in the typical $750-$850 range, and they're both excellent guitars for the money. But if I remember correctly the first generation of SE's were about 500 bucks 20+ years ago. They had to have cut corners somewhere to get it down to the same price in today's dollars...
I have 2 SEs: Paul's, and the 24 fret Floyd Rose. If I walk in Guitar Center and they have the red one, I'm leaving with it. If they don't, then I'll find one!
Love it. The cost is low enough that you can recommend it to beginners and they won’t have to upgrade it after 18 months when they realize their first one sucks
I’ve tried - but just can’t love their standard pattern neck. Personal preference I know. If they had more of that “modern C” neck shape they’d likely be my favorite go-to guitar. The tones (even the SE line) are simply divine.
I had a '89 CE and it was a sweet guitar. It was by far the sweetest solid body guitar I've ever owned outside of my custom shop Strat. In the past few years I've played a bunch of new PRS guitars and, sorry, they just don't match up with the original models.
Bolt ons are fine if the heel has good action. Those old fenders with the block heels are hard to deal with sometime. But those blocky heels can help program some very useful muscle memory. So I’m not knocking anyone’s preferences here.
I had a play on one when I was at Sweetwater a month or so ago. To me I don't honestly notice much difference in access vs the standard PRS design. It's more comfy than a strat or other similar block neck joint, but I didn't feel like it made any real difference to me vs how PRS normally did it. I guess they use the same basic neck joint block cut on the 509 as well. Anyway was a cool guitar.
Do you have any video lessons on guitar? You seem to have developed a free feeling grasp of just jamming riffs. Curious to see how you mentally grasped and see guitar.
i want to try this one. i want to see how the satin finish feels on the skin. i am playing only my glossy finish kelly and i want another guitar at this point. something less pointy so i can move it around more easily. this one looks insane. i like that it is so simply looking. it is in a way refreshing. i don't know why. it looks at home, both at a jazz bar and at a metal concert.
I would like to try out at a music store the PRS Hendrix amp. I am not into buying something that I haven't played, that goes for guitars also, I don't see how people buy guitars over the internet.

My thoughts exactly. Not my style, but the value is undeniable.
They do make damn fine instruments
High end Squier vs Low end PRS SE yeah.
@@ravendemo4980 not exactly. Classic Vibes are $430 and the cheapest SE is $500. They are both probably made in the same Cort factory in Indo

Things that make you go, Hmm?
2 review videos in one week??? wha??? :)
Now we just need a super dumb mod video! I need my stupid mod videos!
7:52 awesome Tool-vibes!
Diggin'the track and the Axe!
AGU!!
HB baritone sig when?!
Good question
He posted an update a little while back, said hed have a better idea last quarter of this year/near the end of the year. I forget his exact wording.
Would like to hear how lead playing on the neck pickup sounds. Looks great
Take it...Rock it 🥳
That 594 you have is amazing looking, and the mark Holcomb model , awesome
Its funny but lately I’ve sent back fenders and loved Squier. These PRS seem to be pretty awesome as well! I want one
Dang. I love what PRS has done here and satin finishes are so comfortable.
(My only stupid nitpick is I wish it had dot inlays… please don’t throw things at me).
Blasphemy!!! 🤣
My only gripe with my old PRS SE standard was the gloss neck. This one, I must have.
You can find mark Holcombs in great condition for 600 sometimes, not to mention all the other models for 350 - 500
Not to bad. Smart move I think.
They should do a single cut too.
SE miles Kennedy first
@@CodyPatrick55that would be bonkers a se myles kennedy. Would be immediate buy
You’re a talented composer. 1. Are you in a band? 2. What city do you live in?
Great guitar, great playing, great cat!
I kind of wish it was a CE22 so the neck pickup would be in the vintage position.
(It doesn’t help that the SE guitars were overstocked after the pandemic, and stores were slashing prices, but still, my Torero was cheaper than a new SE Custom, and the Torero is neck through, Floyd Rose, and active EMGs.)
So yeah, this new SE CE is a nice addition to the lineup… but I see it as an affordable guitar you don’t have to worry about dinging it all up, or a step up from the $299 beginner guitars.
The only thing I would change on this model is having a hardtail bridge. Why not get a Mark Holcomb? I would like a 10” fretboard and 25” scale length
A deal. Wonderful instrument. Tremolo stays in tune. At that price point for that instrument it owns the market
"Shattup. Its fun" is gonna be my new quote for both guitar and tcg.😂
This is what I have been waiting for from PRS!
Hey dude when an album with all those amazing riffs? 😊
Hope to see the Swamp Ash Special on the channel soon as well.
Great demo and review Hunter! Thinking about picking one up to mod out myself.
I mean, this guitar looks like a banger, but that single cut baritone lurking in the background... Why so shy, Mr. Long Boi?
I had a '89 CE and it was a sweet guitar. It was by far the sweetest solid body guitar I've ever owned outside of my custom shop Strat. In the past few years I've played a bunch of new PRS guitars and, sorry, they just don't match up with the original models.
I bought the first se ce model and i love it so much
Great guitar especially for a beginner. Good price and it’s a bang for your buck
yes! power chords are fun, thank you!!
"shut up! it's fun" is the most pop punk thing to say about making the music hahaha
When I get this I’m just going to buy some 3+3 locking tuners & install them
I like that track. You really need to make an album. Instrumental.
Awesome, PRS education, keep doing PRS stuff
As a dentist I approve this guitar
This price point means it's a good dental assistant's guitar
The crowning statement of this comments section!
This guitar definitely has so some teeth in it...😁
Do you have any video lessons on guitar? You seem to have developed a free feeling grasp of just jamming riffs. Curious to see how you mentally grasped and see guitar.
I love mine. I play it more than I do my Santana 3.
We eating good today
Not everyone wants to chug so maybe a nice clean with some reverb and a bit of overdrive would be helpful
Hunter, what is that piece of gear you clamp onto the strings above the nut? Does it help keep tuning stable?
I think that just keeps the open strings from vibrating too much when they aren't actively being played.
He uses “Jimmy Clips” to stop ringing
“Shut up, it’s fun!” - Agufish, 2024
😂😂 so true!
i want to try this one. i want to see how the satin finish feels on the skin. i am playing only my glossy finish kelly and i want another guitar at this point. something less pointy so i can move it around more easily. this one looks insane. i like that it is so simply looking. it is in a way refreshing. i don't know why. it looks at home, both at a jazz bar and at a metal concert.
Awesome track, man! That thing rips!
Great video! Just bought one myself. By the way, what is it you use just behind the nut and why?
Can we get some more askufis? Maybe on the new Jackson line?
I would like to try out at a music store the PRS Hendrix amp. I am not into buying something that I haven't played, that goes for guitars also, I don't see how people buy guitars over the internet.
