@@jbh219 yup - all the cost saving here has come from dropping the bling, not from playability and tone. Also, side-note, these will make a GREAT mod platform to try different pickups, etc. PRS nailed it on this one.
@@jbh219 indeed - there were some isolated QC issues coming out of the pandemic (pretty common across all our suppliers), but they definitely seem to be back to consistency now - we really don’t have to do much to new PRS guitars before putting them on the wall, except to check tuning. At each of their price tiers (SE, S2, Core, Private Stock), it’s hard to beat PRS. And with this SE CE24, they have the budget entry point just right.
Seems like a perfect guitar for playing out, home use, guitar night at a friend’s house outside on the deck. I’d (and probably will) buy a hard shell case (from Gator Cases here in my hometown of Tampa, FL, of course) and just play the heck out it. I think I’ll head over to the guitar store and try one out. Only downside is I try not to buy guitars that aren’t made here in my good old USA as I prefer to support workers here, but might make an exception and hope Paul hires some more people here with some of the profits.
I recently did a tour of the factory and they said they have a little over 500 working there. He has no problem hiring people, they just can't make a $500 guitar and pay US wages. They must pay OK too, because lots of people have been there for 10 years or more.
@@Scott__C That’s what I’m talking about! That’s 500 people with (hopefully) a good full-time job with some benefits making an excellent project that people want. And they are jobs a person can learn and progress in for decades until retirement. If the imports help support that or help develop a market for their US projects then it must be working. Kudos to Paul, his American dream is making others’ lives better.
I'm of the belief, that if I set up one of the new Amazon Squires that they just came out with for around $119. With good strings and a Roland Cube, Mr. Cordy could pull off quite a ruckus with it, very easily. Does that make me want an Amazon Squire? No, no it doesn't. His playing has evolved quite nicely just over the last couple months I've noticed. Less endless noodling and an effort to simplify and condense most playing spots. Less is always more, if you convey the same message effectively. The kid is get'n hot. Maybe the key to life is efficiency, not who can play the most notes the fastest. Keef seems to think so.
I am die hard Strat Fan. Own one but I have always wanted a modern Guitar with Humbuckers for playing some Riffs and Chugg a bit every now and then Will this cut it for me. I don’t play in major low tunings. Drop D or maybe C# Tuning at the most
I’ve been really happy with my SE CE24. My only complaint is that I’d like to buy another of the same guitar (or the SE CE24 Standard) with a hardtail. Yeah, they’ve got other hardtail guitars. And, yeah, I could block the vibrato. I’m sure I will do one of those things. But why not just have these same models in hardtail? I’m not much of a fan of the birds, but I’m fine with them.
I know it’s not easy in the beginning but just keep practicing. You’re going to get someday, I promise. 😂 seriously you could make a 3 string Mickey Mouse guitar sound good.
Pickup selector switch is in such a horrible spot...WTF was PRS thinking? PRS we need more maple fretboards....the gig clip sounded damn good..great playing John.
I think of it this way. think of something famous. most famous guitars are a painting of that thing. prs is a photograph of that thing. which is better? i donno. different.
Hi :) There was one point, which really caught my attention "if I was running a guitar company, I probably would make sure that guitars that goes out for people to review weren't crap". And that is exactly, what I think is really happening...only those in reviews aren't crap. In the past I owned 2 PRS SEs, but Korean ones and those were superb for the money. Nowdays anytime I pickup any PRS SE in the local store, those are definitelly crap. Frets sticking out, necks bent so badly that strings were 5-10mm away from frets, tuners felt like made of tin and overall the sounds was really really uninspiring - so I assume the wood is very quickly dried out, therefore not only there are problems mentiones earlier, but also is sounds really dull. I wouldn't buy PRS SE in this day and age... Additional question: don't you have problem with satin finish that it polishes out below the strings, where your right/picking hand little finger (and maybe also sometimes ring and middle) touches the wood?
I just bought the SE DGT. First one I received was the worst guitar I’ve ever had. Fretwork was a joke. Chunks missing out of the fretboard near the fret ends from poor filing work, etc, etc.. Second I received is brilliant. I think the QC consistency on the Korean models was better. But the Indonesians can make a great guitar when they want. Sending out perfect examples to reviewers on RUclips and the gear mags is something all the companies will do. I take these reviews with a grain of salt. That said, I find JNC to be refreshingly honest and fair. And a great player too!
I agree that it seems like it would be, but in my opinion it's not. I've played them at gc. The alternate positions (non humbucker) have the pickups all combining with each other in different ways. There is no true single coil setting. It didn't sound very stratty to me. It's kind of it's own thing imo.
@@tonedowne You do, but they aren't true single coil sounds; combinations of hum & tapped neck hum mixed with the middle single. They are good sounds, just not very stratty.
@@dcamnc1 thanks, I was asking because all of the videos I've heard, it sounds super bright especially for humbuckers. I'm kind of torn between the DGT and the Swamp ash. Seems like they both have a big tonal palette. Unfortunately I'm living abroad at the moment and can't try them out anywhere before buying.
Always depends on what you want. If you spend more, they'll basically just be turning everything down, cheaper will be more muffled on the high end. I've used Earasers, they're about $40 on Amazon and are pretty good.
I bought it only because I wanted a guitar with an expression/whammy bar. And I read so many reviews that praised its quality for the dollar. Bullshit! Mine doesn't stay in tune at all!!! 🤬
Almost all PRS guitars have that problem with the location of the pickup selector, IMO. If you have the trem bar in and hanging straight down (as it tends to), you have to “jump” over it to get to the pickup switch. Tough to do during a solo on the fly.
Nice to hear the SE CE 24 Satin gigged. I've had the cherry red one for over 2mos now. Mine weighs 7.2lbs which I don't consider "super light" but then again I'm not a youngster. I really like the guitar...and agree, it can get knocked a little out of tune in its gig bag. For me it's always the "G". They do come strung with 9's and that works for me. Overall I'm so glad PRS made a guitar that's more affordable for the masses ! As primarily a strat player, I can see where it might take getting used to. You made it sound like a million bucks John ! p.s....did you find that one know had less resistance than the other ? My tone knob has little to no resistance...turns sooo easily...maybe too easily whereas the volume feels more like the rest of my guitars. Just curious.
My red satin CE 24 is the same, tone has less resistance than volume. I wondered also until I saw it mentioned in at least one other review so I think that's just how the tone/split pot is.
@@JonOrchard as long as it works right ? I called PRS and spoke with a tech guy...after a long dissertation about the pots Paul uses, as long as it works not to worry...if there are any issues let them know.
PRS tremolo systems just never quite stay in tune. I’ve owned about ten of them, mostly USA versions and I’m not a fan of that system. If you block them they are great guitars. Also I agree about the placement of the pickup switch. PRS just has always been slightly off on control placements for me personally.
I think typically that's either a nut issue or one of the 6 screws isn't lined up properly. If someone's adjusted it, they're tough to get just right. But great when they are.
Yeah I’ve done every adjustment possible including adding roller nuts, bone nuts, etc. It’s not that they go dramatically out of tune in my experience. They are fine with light tremolo work, but then you bend a g or a b string and they go slightly flat until you wiggle the tremolo again. Just very annoying even though it’s a slight change in pitch.
It's unfair. SE series known to be called "student edition" because it's budget aka cheap. But you compare it with Yamaha Pacifica twice more expensive in different price category. It's like criticising some budget Chinese noname android in front of iPhone Pro. You have to compare it at least with mid-range of Gretsches or Epiphones.

I had the gold HSS one it looked great and well spec'd with a lovely smooth neck but for me only issue was the body weight and big block trem so it got returned otherwise fantastic imo!
I gigged a PRS SE last night. The core had a night off. Does anyone think the audience noticed?
Of course not.
@@Scott__C Agreed. The core is for me but the audience don't care which I play
man you sounded great at that gig. your a great player. I think this line of PRS Guitars are amazing value but for the love of god get locking tuners ready! I've said for a while they just need to make ONE line of locking tuners for all their guitars. I think they are essential in 2024.
personally, i wish prs offered more hardtail versions with dot inlays. I own a new SE Custom 24 & very much wish I could get that SAME guitar in a hardtail w/dot inlays.
We've had a couple of these come through the store and they are amazing at this price point.
Has the quality been decent?
@@jbh219 yup - all the cost saving here has come from dropping the bling, not from playability and tone. Also, side-note, these will make a GREAT mod platform to try different pickups, etc. PRS nailed it on this one.
In the face of QA issues at Fender and Gibson, PRS are being really smart to my mind
@@philipmarsh3522 They do have people doing QC on them on one floor in the factory.
Thank sir! Very good video. I think this pushes me towards my purchase. Cheers Mate
SMOKIN J Cordy! Want to play like you when I grow up (52) 🙂
Can the bridge be mounted flush on the body? I read that on PRS's that can be a problem.
I've likened my Reverend BC-1 to a PRS CE24 SE. Can you get your hands on a Reverend for review?
My 2009 DGT made me a PRS fan. The most versatile guitar I own for playing covers. Plays great, sounds great, looks great. What more do you need?
Do you have any recordings of music you wrote? Really love your jamming on these videos
would you care for some cheese with your whine ! i have the prs 24-08 and it is truly amazing to play .
The intro jam is beautiful. Which key are you playing I need lesson plz !!!
I’ve played 22 frets my entire life…when I play 24, it messes me up in the high register…so I guess that is a thing for some people!!
I am die hard Strat Fan. Own one but I have always wanted a modern Guitar with Humbuckers for playing some Riffs and Chugg a bit every now and then
Will this cut it for me. I don’t play in major low tunings. Drop D or maybe C# Tuning at the most
Check out Bacchus (high end) open pore designs - radical!
I have a PRS Custom and agree that the pickup switch is in the wrong place. Otherwise, no complaints. In fact it’s amazing.
Yamaha revstar rse20 or prs se ce 24. Which one is better acording to you can you help me I am confused please help
Its a complete new beast thats in you hands, but after two weeks playing it works! 🤔
I know it’s not easy in the beginning but just keep practicing. You’re going to get someday, I promise. 😂 seriously you could make a 3 string Mickey Mouse guitar sound good.
The CE is my favorite, might grab one of the se versions as a backup
They do feel a bit different, mainly neck profile. That said it does a pretty decent job capturing the general mojo of the guitar it's modeled after.
What exactly are you picking on he bridge? Something got loose ?
Pickup selector switch is in such a horrible spot...WTF was PRS thinking? PRS we need more maple fretboards....the gig clip sounded damn good..great playing John.
I think of it this way. think of something famous. most famous guitars are a painting of that thing. prs is a photograph of that thing. which is better? i donno. different.
Thank you for showing me what I was looking for. Sold.
For the money... this PRS or Sire S7 or new Pacifica?
Tried a couple at GC but wasn’t impressed at all, actually felt cheap. Having said that it could be because I’m used to playing Kiesel guitars!! 👍
Having no poly will make it feel unfinished, but I much prefer that satin feel.
This guitar suits your playing style, really. ALSO, will you be using time stamps on your videos anytime soon ? 😉
Mate, what amp cab EQ and OD settings do you use for the gig clips? Love the smooth lead tone. Turned down tone knob?
I didn't like mine. It came unusable have to return it
What was the issue you had with yours?
Hi :)
There was one point, which really caught my attention "if I was running a guitar company, I probably would make sure that guitars that goes out for people to review weren't crap".
I’d like to see a single cut
Custom 24 ce
Would love to see you review the PRS Se Swamp Ash special since that seems to be a very “strat like” guitar.
I agree that it seems like it would be, but in my opinion it's not. I've played them at gc. The alternate positions (non humbucker) have the pickups all combining with each other in different ways. There is no true single coil setting. It didn't sound very stratty to me. It's kind of it's own thing imo.
It’s a brighter tone than most PRSs, but it’s not as bright as a typical Strat,
@@dcamnc1 Don’t you have to pull out the tone knob to get the single coil sounds?
@@tonedowne You do, but they aren't true single coil sounds; combinations of hum & tapped neck hum mixed with the middle single. They are good sounds, just not very stratty.
@@dcamnc1 thanks, I was asking because all of the videos I've heard, it sounds super bright especially for humbuckers. I'm kind of torn between the DGT and the Swamp ash. Seems like they both have a big tonal palette. Unfortunately I'm living abroad at the moment and can't try them out anywhere before buying.
What are cordless system are you using?
Boys, i am looking for ear protection. What exact product would you recommend for a decent proce? Thx
Always depends on what you want. If you spend more, they'll basically just be turning everything down, cheaper will be more muffled on the high end. I've used Earasers, they're about $40 on Amazon and are pretty good.
not their fault you saw things different with 24 frets and the switch is a different place. weird
I bought it only because I wanted a guitar with an expression/whammy bar. And I read so many reviews that praised its quality for the dollar. Bullshit! Mine doesn't stay in tune at all!!! 🤬
The pickup switch location drives me nuts. For all that they get right and do well, they put it where they do.
The live recording didn't have that keyboardy tone. What was different?
What wireless do you use live?
WOULD YOU LIKE SOME CHEESE WITH THAT WHINE ...... I HAVE THREE HIGH END PRS GUITARS NEVER AN ISSUE .....
I can't help but feel in your last couple of videos that maybe you have been listening to more Eric Johnson lately. Just a guess
Will the coil split produce a single coil hum?
Man there are sooooo many great PRS SE guitars right now but the birds… the damn birds.
Love the birds!!
@@loneranger2385 Hate the birds
PRS tremolo systems just never quite stay in tune. I’ve owned about ten of them, mostly USA versions and I’m not a fan of that system.
If you block them they are great guitars.
Also I agree about the placement of the pickup switch. PRS just has always been slightly off on control placements for me personally.
Hmm and on the flip side my US CE24 has been the most stable guitar on the wall.
I think typically that's either a nut issue or one of the 6 screws isn't lined up properly. If someone's adjusted it, they're tough to get just right. But great when they are.
I hear people say that. Just hasn’t been my experience. I wish though because I do like their instruments.
Just very annoying even though it’s a slight change in pitch.
same, blocked the trem on U.S CE. love the pups and neck.
Colors are a bit odd. Would have preferred nicer colors and 22 frets. So have to pay more....
