Played one of these at Guitar Center yesterday.....ordered one of these last night in the charcoal finish. It is on backorder but should be coming in soon. I cannot freaking wait!
Great question! I wasn’t given that option, but I also didn’t ask. Unfortunately, with being a small business, I just can’t afford to buy everything I demo that I enjoy. Trust me, I wish I could.
I picked a black one up at a GC and like you I was blown away by the feel of the neck. Now I ordered a red one the other day and I feel pretty fortunate to having this as my first electric guitar!
Got this 2 days ago from a guitar center and I couldn’t be happier! The coil tap can really get close to strat like tones. For me, it’s the perfect guitar in my budget as a high school student who needs to be able to have single coil sounds and humbuckera
I got a Harley Benton PRS copy recently that is good but I had to also pull the trigger on this one :). The HB is getting modded, this puppy is probably going to stay as it is (more or less).
I just bought the non-satin SE CE24 in turquoise back in December. It's gorgeous and sounds amazing, but the satin has got me kicking myself a little! They're so cheap that maybe I'll grab a red satin SE CE24 for some color variety! 😅 PRS is killing it
edit: FRIST! I saw the announcement and came to RUclips, and yours is the first video it showed me. I love satin-ish / semigloss necks, and I know you're not the biggest fan but FWIW I think the SE Silver Sky neck is awesome (I've never touched a USA version, though). But I'm not sure how I feel about satin bodies. You got some killer tones out of that thing, though. Makes it very tempting. And it's hard to beat the price on this guitar these days. Used to be the SE Standard 24 was $499 but that has changed in the last 3-4 years, same as any manufacturer right now. So in 2024, the SE CE 24 Standard Satin seems like a champ. Less-known brands undercut PRS still and surely they are starting to feel the heat. Glad they delivered something nice.
The neck and price make this thing REALLY tempting, I agree. It's not that I dislike the SE Silver Sky neck, but it's just not my favorite, especially after experiencing this one. Best SE neck, I think, of any of them.
Great way to void the warranty and destroy the resell value of your SE silver sky. You could also just buy a fender player series with a nice satin back neck.
I have been watching too much PRS videos for too long and also been wanting to have one but PRS is just too expensive for me and this is the first time that PRS can offer to someone like me who can't even afford 250$ guitars lol. Thank you for the review for this one now this is on my list hoping i can actually have my first PRS. This is the closest i can get to PRS. New subscriber here!
PRS is knocking it out of the park with their SE line. Even though money's tight, I meticulously saved up for Silver Sky but at the last minute changed my mind and got a PRS Swamp Ash Special instead because the tone variety blew me away and also because they're limited editions I think. I'm still going to get a Silver Sky eventually though. Probably the maple neck with the summit purple or nylon blue. I just wish they'd add at least one option for their McCarty 594 singlecuts to have a tremolo system (not counting the Tremonti one because it has different pickups). If the SE line could do that one thing I'd be happy.
Can’t go wrong with that Swamp Ash Special. I really enjoyed it (check out my video on it, if you get a chance). The SE Silver Sky is a great guitar too. I *might* be giving one away on the channel soon, so stay tuned 👀
DUDE, my thoughts exactly on the Singlecut with tremolo situation. That is my absolute dream guitar (Singlecut with a trem) but my issue with the Tremonti is the color, I’m not big on the charcoal. I really hope they introduce a bit more color variety to the SE Tremonti soon
@@dannydemarco6405 Yeah the color is my other issue with the Tremonti ones besides the pickups. PRS needs more color variety for it. I've never been a fan of that charcoal grey. I considered the Ruby Alex Lifeson model from Epiphone, but at 1,300 it's simply too expensive for the Chinese guitar they're offering and the specs that it has. I looked at other brands like Xaviere Pro 555, Harley Benton, and Sawtooth, etc. but I ended up going with an older discontinued Epiphone I found on Reverb. It was a Honey Burst Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plustop Pro/FX with a Floyd Rose for 600 bucks.
True! Their site mentions they “split” and “tap,” which can be confusing. I think, in reality, they tap one of the coils on these guitars rather than truly split.
I got mine yesterday and i'll be honest, I'm a bit underwhelmed. I saw all these reviews gushing about how great they are, neck finish etc etc - yes it is a very nice guitar, but in my collection I have a range of various guitars including a Harley Benton super strat. I'm not a guitar snob so have no issue with that, and that guitar is over half the price of this, and being genuinely honest, is no worse. The neck is just as nice, it has the twin humbuckers with coil split option and a finish that is nicer than this satin look. It's nice to have the PRS logo on the headstock, but I think the reviews are not really taking into account the level of competition now.
Guitar: MXR Sugar Drive > Full Drive 2 > '65 Deluxe Reverb RI > UA Ox Box > UA Apollo X4 > Logic. Voice/Speaking Audio: Shotgun mic direct into the Sony A6600.
That's a tough one. I think quality-wise, they are on par with each other. They're so different it's hard for me to compare them or say which is "Better." Two very different applications and guitars. Both really, really good and a lot of value.
Same electronics on both. Per their own site, they “tap” the coils to “split” them lol. So, as you can imagine, it continues the confusion between the two terms. Check out my video on it: ruclips.net/video/3slyvNmpzLE/видео.htmlsi=JMplBZ9n9TaPxfEP
Great video ! I have a Silver Sky SE and found the satin finish on the neck has smoothed out through playing . This satin guitar looks as though it’s a satin /gloss hybrid neck which would be ideal in my view . Can’t wait to try one over here. In Scotland 🏴 🎸
@@TomButwinI was in a store today and I noticed the SE CE 24 that’s was released before the satin one had dropped in price towards the satin version . So wonder if the body finish on the Satin one makes a difference in comparison to the glossier capped version . Dissapointed today when I played a DGT SE , bit dark sounding and the neck isn’t the most comfortable and no binding !! Need another store visit to try both SE CE 24s . Winner of the day today was ….Yamaha Revstar Standard ! Multiple tones , great neck and frets , not sure about the Focus switch -can make sound a bit muddy -it’s a no -no on the humbucker version !!
Even though the mention of the extra octave, if PRS would make this in a 22 fret, single cut with stop tailpiece, and a SLIM TAPER NECK I’d sell the majority of my inventory. I’m hoping there’s more that feel the same and PRS will answer the call.
I absolutely love the feel of PRS satin finishes, but absolutely loathe the way they get shiny everywhere there's contact with the body. Not talking about oil from the skin - it's more like the finish is going from satin to polished satin over time. Agreed about the neck finish, which I'm assuming is the same as the US-made CE24. I do prefer the neck joint in my US CE24 over the SE CE24.
Pretty sure satin guitars age or “relic” easier than gloss which is a positive thing for me. My only critique on these would be the colors so far. That cherry does look pretty good but I’m not crazy about the charcoal or turquoise they put out. Maybe 9 months from now they will add more.
OOO. That's a tough one. If it's the Core/USA Silver Sky, I'd choose that. If it's the SE Silver Sky Maple, I'd pick the SE CE 24 Satin. If it's the SE Silver Sky Rosewood, I'd pick that. Hope that helps!
Do you think other PRS guitars will follow this low price, or this is the one and only where Paul is trying to grab some market share from other decent but more affordable brands (like Sire)? I think that the guitar market is flooded right now, and some kind of correction must come, just like the car market started doing in the past couple days.
I don't think we'll see much of a difference in any of the Core/USA models and their prices. They kind of are what they are and they still sell more than they can make, it seems. However, I do agree, I think we're in the middle of a correction like that already. Regardless, these SE guitars are insanely good for the price. The 594s, DGT, Silver Sky, and now the CE24s are all ridiculously good in the SE line and make it hard to justify bumping up to that S2 level in a lot of cases. They're doing it right over there and that's my honest and genuine opinion.
Can’t make a guitar this cheap without cutting corners which they clearly did with wood quality and satin. TLDR: no. I also think your idea of correction (costs coming down) isn’t going to happen. Inflation hasn’t changed and people still need to be paid. More likely you’ll just see inventory and production capacity reduced as consumer buy less due to cash constraints.
Tom. Tom. Tom-Tom? They did it again? Uh-oh, money leak discovered. Your video is increasing the size of that leak. Btw: with the SE Silver Sky, the neck isn’t only sanded; it has a matte finish (some call it a “satin” finish, but I’ve been finishing wood for decades; it’s definitely not a satin finish; it’s certainly a matte finish…which would read somewhere between 10 and 12 on a sheen meter).
