I've had mine almost a week now. Same color. Love it ! Great finish, stays in tune well....same pickups as their more expensive SE models...lightweight (mine is 7.2lbs). Great feel and playability. Love it ! Retails for $499 USD and it included a gig bag !
As I was watching and hearing you talk about the price, I figured you were one of my neighbors to the north. The 669 price made me wonder why not 499? Just ordered the turquoise with the gloss finish. Looking forward to NGD.
Absolutely -- playability and sound options that could work for many pro level players at a price that many a guitar student could (and probably should) contemplate.
I have the green one and its fabulous, and just as enjoyable to play as my other SE’s…!! And I dont worry so much if my grandsons want to play it..👍🏼 Excellent addition to our PRS collection
I have the same guitar. Absolutely love it. The only thing I did to it was change the tuning heads for locking tuners. All in all,.....love the guitar on a whole.
@@maarsmusic 10-46 Daddrio NYXLs. It's the only gauge they had in that category that I like. Yeah, they had other brands but I've really been liking the NYXL strings.
It would DEFINITELY be a great addition to your excellent PRS SE collection (though, the CE 24 in Blood Orange is currently our favourite overall)! Which of the 3 is your favourite so far?
Can't comment on that, but it's already proving to be a guitar that's potentially growing (and not shrinking) the PRS market presence! It's good to have it available -- nothing like competition that benefits the guitar buying public!
I wonder if you could put a tung oil finish over the factory finish. Just for some protection. I don't mind natural dings but my experience with that type of finish is it won't offer the wood much protection. Tung oil hardens and will protect it well.
Super interesting idea! It's true, a satin finish does require a little more care -- sometimes those hard poly finishes make you forget how delicate essentially raw wood can be. Doesn't make me as nervous as acoustic guitar tops that lack binding....
@@maarsmusic I would love it if guitars took the understated approach of classical instruments in regards to aesthetics. This guitar would make a nice example of that type of look. My worry about this guitars finish is not just because it's satin, but I know I read somewhere it's a very thin single coat, in line with making the guitar so inexpensive. I'm considering buying because I just got a $550 quote to refret my 99 SG. I'm having a hard time deciding to spend that when I can get this PRS for less.
$499 USD is very reasonable ($669 CAD) for a guitar like that -- we are still big fans and are happy to finally have them on the wall long enough for non-internet guitar people to discover them.
Thanks for commenting -- it's an interesting point that you make. The PRS signature fingerboard inlay is currently part of the branding across the entire SE series -- to give further visual distinction between those and the inferior quality, but less expensive knock offs. It would be interesting for PRS to make something akin to the Gibson BFG guitars!
Yes, definitely -- it has the same PRS Patented Tremolo as the more expensive SE CE 24. We quickly tuned the out of the box SE and played it from there in the video (we'd usually stretch the strings and tune a few more times before playing it otherwise!). The PRS Tremolo system is very good on a guitar of this price!
As it turns out, Shon has a similar Yamaha Revstar and he's tried many PRS SE guitars -- comment from him: "The RSS20 is closer to a more costly PRS McCarty and a great choice if it's in good shape and you don't need a vibrato"@@SwapnenduKar
The PRS SE CE24 comes in Vintage Cherry, Charcoal and Turquoise. Once you play one, we think you'll agree that the price is more than justified when compared to the competition. We'd rate Sire as offering similar value for the electric guitar dollar, but few others (out of the box experience).
@@PMofKhanadah I was to explain my assumption, but your tone makes it clear you are not up to the conversation. Fortunately I now for fact that, unlike you, Canadians can keep it civilized.
At least a 3 piece body, and that middle stripe looks pretty out of place, too. I hope that's just an exception. But I'm confident those are great "bang for the buck", as they say.
It's not the most visually attractive guitar in the PRS SE lineup, but it's by the most affordable by a fair margin (and there's not shortage of PRS SE eye candy should people want that). Bang for the buck is exactly where this is at!
Haha -- that's fair when it comes to visuals, to each their own. It makes sense to cut costs and I'm more shocked on high end acoustics sometimes. A Gibson SG can look rather fetching in satin -- don't you think?
Would you care to elaborate a bit more about which $300 USD guitars offer comparable or greater playability, fit an finish and out of the box quality to these PRS SE guitars? As good as the following brands are, it's not Epiphone, Squire, Ibanez, Schecter, Yamaha or Jackson -- and Godin electrics, which arrive great, are much more than that. Curious to read about your suggestions.
@@maarsmusic IYV , Wolf Guitars Korea, Sire, Eart for starters I have even had a few Chinese manufacturers that played and finished as well. At this price point there are many quality choices.
@@sammyrothrock6981 Sire does make nice guitars for sure and we carry these as well. It will be some time before the prestige and strength of the brand can't be compared to PRS, but they are growing rapidly and their 2024 models are promising. Aside from Sire, the other brands other brands aren't really comparable on the open market -- they are currently low name awareness copies that don't have a track record of retaining mainstream value, service or durability. So, they have no choice but to be cheaper. We'll see where they are at in 10, 20 years time and how well they hold up. At this point, I'd take a real Martin, Taylor, Gibson, PRS, Rickenbacker or comparable brand any day of the week. Yet, there is choice and you're free to buy any guitar you can afford, and that's the best part of all.
H Nicholas, it's definitely not as attractive as the SE CE24, but that's part of the trade off -- no maple cap and no maple veneer on this model (nor the glossy finish) and this accounts for the difference in price from $669 to $939 (CAD).
Then don't buy one. I would have loved to have one of these when I was first starting out. This is definitely a function over form guitar... Although I like how it looks.
@@garrickhanson this would be an amazing 1st or 2nd (or 4th) electric guitar for most players. It is function of form by far, and gives you the playability and sound of a $900+ PRS for a lot less.
