I recently got a hold of a 2005 prs se soapbar. It sat on fb marketplace for 6 months. Price dropped to 350, so i picked it up. The strings were original, rusty frets, lots of finger cheese! I took it all apart, cleaned it up and its my favorite guitar now out of my 17.

The original Star Trek episode called dagger of the mind popped into my head when you mentioned the PRS employees “I love my work… I love my work” with the blank stare hahahahahahahahahaha!!! I’d be willing to endure that to work at the PRS factory!!! Awesome guitar by the way!
You should practice up and down strokes instead of just down on single note playing. Your playing will be more fluid. You must have learned watching the Ramones
I have a PRS SE Custom 24 that I absolutely love. It’s now one of my go to guitars. Paid around $450 used and it’s one of the best values I’ve gotten on an instrument. The SE line has tons of great guitars for those of us that can’t afford a core model.
That's the other thing, used guitars are great! I would never have been able to afford all of my core guitars at retail. I'd be living on the streets! We make do with what we can rock, and at the end of the day, the guitar doesn't make the player the player makes the guitar. But it doesn't hurt when there's birds inlaid on the fretboard 🎸🔥
Hey Benny, I just subscribed. I thought I was crazy with my guitar and gear collecting until I saw your channel...I'm looking forward to seeing your new studio too. Awesome review. I spent 20 minutes putting an E string on a Telecaster this week - hate those goofy eyelet tuners. Guessing I wouldn't help PRS' bottom line much! Great video as always - I know the full blown look is coming but the clean look is pretty cool as well. ROCK ON!!
It's just a great guitar for 499. I can tell anybody starting out just get THAT and you're good! Thanks for all that you do, brother. Keep spreading the word and please tell Canada dry to send me some soda already!
Great review man. I just have a question. I've never used a guitar with a tremolo and I play different types of music sometimes it's Standard, sometimes it's in Drop B. I just have a question regarding the tremolo, do I need adjust the screws in order for me to drop the tuning? Is it as complicated as a floyd rose bridge? I've been using fixed bridges for almost a decade now and stopped playing for 2+ years, I'm planning to buy this one as I'm a fan of PRS Guitars. Thank you in advance.
You need to adjust the springs on the back to control the tension of the tremolo. Same concept as a floyd but nowhere near as complicated. You adjust the screws to control how much pull you want on the trem, so pending how heavy the strings are will determine how much tension you put on those springs. You don't have to be a scientist to get it right, you'll be able to feel if it's good. It's not like a floyd where if you don't balance it you'll not be able to play, you just may find the trem is locked or too loose.
If I were to be trying to decide between getting the most expensive Harley Benton or the lowest priced guitar with PRS on the headstock (which is less $$ than the HB), guess which one that I would choose? It's a no-brainer. Good on PRS for offering this guitar for $499!
Thank God for the Charlie and Canada Dry moment!!!!! I only recently got into SEs because of the internet and after being a core owner for a number of years. As you said, can't expect them to be like the cores, but pretty solid guitars in general. My fave so far is the Zach Myers SE - kinda fills a gap for me cause I don't have a core semi-hollow.
The ZM is super cool. Please send these videos to Canada dry! They need to know of my existence! Thanks so much for watching. That guitar is rad and will def have its place as a beater in my studio. I love it. Don't get me wrong, I'd never change it for one of my core guitars but I'd absolutely track with it.
How well does it stay in tune when you dive bomb and shake it around? I got the swamp ash SE and wound up replacing the tuners because that's where they cheap out. And, like you, the 85/15 on the swamp ash just sound weak and fluffy.
it's weird, I disliked them and grew to hate them on the SAS but I like them in this. They are def not as good as the core ones, but totally acceptable...way better than epiphone pickups for example. I haven't had issues with the tuners, but I'm not constantly bombing so I haven't put it through hell. I'll tell ya, for the money, that satin 24 is pretty sick. lmk what u end up doing, I always appreciate the feedback
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist crazy I have a 1992 CE 24 with the 5 way rotary switch, bought in college, it gets better with age, but I picked up the satin today at guitar center and I swear I like the neck better. I think I see a cherry one in my future.
Unbelievable! For $499. Gotta have it. I have an SE CE24 and it's my favorite player right now. My hands just glide so easily all over the entire neck. And I have a 91 and 94 CE24. My favorite model guitar. Gotta get the satin black...if it looks anything like my satin black Vela it's gonna be ridiculous. Might change the pups, bit that's the fun part. 🎉
For sure, I changed the pups on my SAS but I'm really digging the 58/15s in these. If you grab one def use the link in description and thanks for watching Lee, I appreciate u dude 🙏
The good thing about the more affordable PRS's is that the SE's have such good foundation quality that you could simply upgrade the hardware on them, put a good setup on it and transform it into a Core model for less than half the cost of one. You don't get as nice of a finish as the Core's have but they're still nice enough. Especially if it means you could save upwards of $3000.
100%. I franksteined my SAS for a future video, put CRAZY electronics on it just to see what I could do it. Preamp, EQ...it's WILD. Al metall skull 💀 knobs
More killer riffs, man! I don’t know I can never pick out the songs😢. I’ve never been a fan of prs till the silver sky, and when I hear you and Tyler play one I just want one so bad!
Can you tell me about the neck feel? I'm looking for something that matches my core Silver Sky (best neck ever for me), and have heard that the SE neck feel is waaaaay up there. Subscribed and can't wait to see more!
I love the neck on this thing. I have 200 guitars and I have spent 2 months wailing on this thing. It's not that far off the SS but it's not glossy at all. It's not too fat or too thin, dare I say just right for my hand? But you know, it's a personal thing, so you may wanna see how it feels for yourself! Welcome to the madness and have fun going down to the rabbithole
My SE 24 08 for £449 is the bargain of the century. It’s just brilliant and the pattern thin neck is by far the nicest thing I’ve ever coaxed a lick out of.
Very nice. This guitar will release in 1-2 weeks from now in Indonesia with 300-350 usd pricetag. I just got a “best value” guitar, Yamaha Pacifica Standard Plus, at 650 usd. What a a time to live as guitarist in Indonesia right now. Wanna see how do you like or hate the new lineup of Yamaha Pacifica.
I have one of those my Dad bought me several months ago before he died. It's a great guitar. The pickups are awesome And an actually decent trem system, unlike most of them out there that SUCK
That's amazing dude, you'll have to let me know what you think when you get it. Rock on! 🤘 thank you for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness. 🙌
Canada Dry is bomb! Don't stop drinking it! Liquid gold! And the PRS range from SE to Private Stock are ALL amazing for the $. No junkers in their respective ranges. Thanks for the review. I'd consider it if I didn't have the US CE24. And the pickups are the 85/15s's not the 58/15s's (the former are more modern sounding, the latter are warmer sounding).
Canada dry is amazing! You should tell them to send me some soda. I totally spaced on the 58/15s vs 85/15s clearly a moment of dyslexia. I even made a note in the video description. The 58 15s are meant to sound like 1958 pafs and thr 85/15s are copies of the T and B pickups good sir! Rock on! 🤘 thank you for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness. 🙌
@danthedem they're def a different beast than a paf. The 85 stands for 1985 and the 15 stands for 2015 when he ri the pickups. I really like them. Check it out, I compared the 85/15 against the 85/15s against the t and bs in this video ruclips.net/video/dakPUtXABQE/видео.html
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist Ill have to check that out! I missed out on the old era of PRS. Too bad. Now I just have to hope I can trade for a vintage PRS, lol.
@TheNeuroticGuitarist I got the vintage cherry & I think for the price, it's really incredible. I play mostly core PRS & this my first SE PRS. I'm very surprised at how well it plays & how good sounds through a JCM 800 & a Mesa. Keep up the great reviews!
Great review. PRS are great guitars! Nice to see one that is more reasonably priced. One thing that would be good when you/people do guitar reviews. Play it through something like a Fender Frontman15G or something like that(a small basement amp). Something an average kid or working class joe would have instead of an amp that cost several hundreds to thousands of dollars that a professional musician would have.
I hear what you're saying, but I'm here to exemplify simply how things sound. Many times I even record direct. I do these reviews for all musicians, but particularly for the people who want the details, which are gear nerds...
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist HAHA if I walked into GC & saw one of those for $499 I would probably snap and buy it, even to just take out and sell in my Gallery!!! Looks nice, I've always liked the SE's and this CE seems they nailed it!
It was great. Once I stretched the strings it was awesome. I didn't tune more than once for the demo which is unusual thinking back how much i beat on it. There was no tuning in between those takes so it stayed well for this video. Cheers from Boston, as always! Technically randolph!
It's the 6505+ which is slightly different. Essentially the difference between a 5150 i and 5150ii. Thanks for taking the time dude good luck with the channel. You're off to a killer start 🤘🤘
@@Siggy_Sour I wouldn't worry if you're looking for feel... I've been astounded by the SE necks, they're so comfortable. I have a core Silver Sky and its my favourite neck ever, but the SE I just played is only 5% off it. Very impressive indeed. If you're going down the core route, that's great, but you're not buying much more build quality. Yes, you'll get beautiful quilts and recessed knobs, and better pickups.
Damn it I feel ‘Under Pressure’ to buy one of these. The look of these are killer. Any chance of you getting affiliate links for Andertons or Thomann? Would love to be able to support the channel that way.
I recently played the regular SECE24 at sweetwater. Was it as good as my American CE24.... well no , was it a good guitar though that managed to capture the basic vibe of the American CE24? YES. If I only still owned just my SECU24 and did not have an American CE24 would I buy the SE version and be super happy? YES !
Exactly. If you're a discerning player this isn't replacing your core line, but it's an amazing guitar for 499. Rock on! 🤘 thank you for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness. 🙌
It really is, considering you get the same thing on a 2900 nf53 I think you're winning all day at 499 John! Rock on! 🤘 thank you for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness. 🙌
You're correct, and the pickups in the SAS are also 85/15s I just literally had a GIANT brain fart. Oooooppps! Just wrote a note in the description because I did that throughout the video. Appreciate you catching that.
They're essentially handmade marshall clones with their own spin. The one I have back there is the quickrod which has three "gears" which are like gain stages, normal jcm800, then cranked, then like full van halen brown sound. The clean us very fender esque on this one because it was modded. Great head if you like the Marshall sound w a tube screamer on it!
It's gonna be close. I don't realize the different until I pick the others up right next to it and it's like...oh, ok...but the fact that this plays and sounds so good for 499, it's silly. You can see how much I already threw that thing around. That's the other thing, it's gonna get beat so beat it good 😜
I played the "flame top" SECE24 version at sweetwater the other weekend. Great guitar. If the standard plays as good, it's gonna be a great guitar! The SE line isn't quite as tightly qc'ed as it used to be so I recommend checking out a couple if you can and pick the best one. It's not as nice as my American CE obviously, but if I didn't own it I wouldn't know that and I would be perfectly happy with the SE version. Once you pick up and play the American CE24 though you can feel the difference. The difference was like ok the SECE24 is a really nice guitar, and the CE24... well it's just an even better guitar.. but at $2800usd vs $699 or 499... there should be a difference but the SECE24 did manage to capture the basic mojo of the CE24.
Thanks dude! No one pays me but I will thank PRS because after the review they gave me the guitar so I'm totally stoked. Feel free to contact Dennis Bae the marketing manager at Canada Dry and tell him of my awesomeness 🤘😜🤘
I used to prefer hard tails myself but I actually have grown to love the tremolo even more. congrats on the new axe, my friend, I'm so glad you dig it. please subscribe and join the madness 🙏

The average Indonesian income is like 10k American so ya for 500 I expect an exceptional level of quality from an import guitar like this. Looks like a typical high-end PRS tho like the satin finish
It's an incredible guitar for the value. I played it for a week straight and had to play it next to my 2500 CE24 semi hollow. When you pick them up back to back you can see where the extra money goes in the core line but it's truly incredible how great this thing sounds and plays for the $$$
Yes indeed, they do great stuff. Same with Bali. If you look at Blueberry guitars they completely have the most ridiculous carving. Totally crazy. Rock on! 🤘 thank you for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness. 🙌
This is when I was selling my house, man. First off, never used a green screen. I painted the walls and put everything in storage while I moved to my new studio which is being built as we speak.
PRS makes some of my favorite guitars at all price points. They also make all my least favorite pickups at all price points. I'm going to be getting more used SE's and putting EMGs in all of them. It just sounds great, feels great, and it's a tad blasphemous.
Not blasphemous. As someone that has EMGs in about 10 guitars, you know what you're getting. As I've gotten a little older I've moved away from them, but I love them for what they are, which is usually quite predictable. I have a love/hate relationship with some PRS pickups. Even these 59/15s, I wasn't feeling them on my SAS but love them in this axe. But swamp ash vs mahogany.
Hey there Benny. That’s a nice lookin’ PRS. I really like the way the grain stands out with the turquoise finish. Sounds good in your hands. I want the tabs on those ascending/descending licks you’re playing. I could pick it up just by watching, but it would take me a little bit longer. 😁 Nice review on the PRS. 🤘🏼🎸👍
Tone wood😂😂😂 Explain to me how the resonance of the guitar transfers through a wireless system and magically comes out feeling warm or bright as a sound wave through a speaker on the other end of the chain😂😂😂😂😂😂
100% if you look at the description of this video I made a note that my brain went dyslexic, I even reference a video I do of the 85/15 against the 85/15 s against the T and B. Just a total brain fart
Not going to lie, it sounds like a $499 guitar. But that being said I would definitely buy that for a kid just starting out. Looks awesome I imagine it feels awesome too. I have an overwhelming urge to want to change the pickups though.
dude...I KNOW! I was majorly conflating the two for obvious reason. I have the new Sandblasted SE I'm reviewing and I kept thinking it was the 85/15 and it comes with the 58/15s! this was the one video I messed that up and didn't realize until after it was posted

@@TheNeuroticGuitarist sounds ideal because I was considering stripping my SS neck (did it to my maple tele and so happy I did). Thanks!
Dude is absolutely a crazy bastard🤣🤠. Great fun and a damn good player. Cheers

My SE 24 08 for £449 is the bargain of the century. It’s just brilliant and the pattern thin neck is by far the nicest thing I’ve ever coaxed a lick out of.
That sounds like a rad 🎸🔥 and that it's serving you well dude. Rock on! 🤘 thank you for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness. 🙌
I was waiting for a certain drummer for a minute until I remembered what the P in PRS was for. 😁
Agreed on all points.

I love Yamaha as a company. That's awesome. Thanks for watching dude, cheers from Boston
I have one of those my Dad bought me several months ago before he died. It's a great guitar. The pickups are awesome And an actually decent trem system, unlike most of them out there that SUCK
Rock on! 🤘 thank you for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness. 🙌
Great run down. I dig the satin finish. They're going to sell so many of those. Any plans on getting the new EVH semi hollow? It looks amazing.
Yes indeed, you mean the Wolfgang stuff! It looks rad
Just ordered my first PRS! Thx
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist that's a good reference point about the T&B pickups. I've never played those so I don't have a reference for those.
@danthedem that's what I did! I wasn't buying guitars in 86 dude! You work up one guitar at a time. It's a life's journey, my friend
Great review Benny. So I nabbed one.
What do you think?
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist Cool!
That's pretty cool! for $499 they did a great job! I like the teal...
Do I see another guitar going to Rob??? 😜
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist HAHA if I walked into GC & saw one of those for $499 I would probably snap and buy it, even to just take out and sell in my Gallery!!! Looks nice, I've always liked the SE's and this CE seems they nailed it!
Great review as always bro. What was the tuning stability like when using the trem ?
Cheers from NZ 😎🎸🤘
It was great. Once I stretched the strings it was awesome. I didn't tune more than once for the demo which is unusual thinking back how much i beat on it. There was no tuning in between those takes so it stayed well for this video. Cheers from Boston, as always! Technically randolph!
That thing is sick! You got some great tones from your 6505, been thinking of getting one. Rock on! 🤘😎🤙
It's the 6505+ which is slightly different. Essentially the difference between a 5150 i and 5150ii. Thanks for taking the time dude good luck with the channel. You're off to a killer start 🤘🤘
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist thank you! Appreciate the advice and everything! I’m constantly trying to get better. See you in the next video!
Good job Paul. Glad to see, wish it was usa tho. one day ill try a PRS idk if i wanna start here tho.
Where would you want to start?
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist i think i wanna start at the S2 level or Core i think its called. Is Core basically like a USA Standard?
I appreciate that, I'm with Sam ash, they've been very good to me. What an awesome guitar.
wolfie's not barking! lmfao

That satin turquoise looks killer, and I'm a sucker for solid mahogany . I can see one of these joining my stable soon!
Please purchase through the link in description if you do! Rock on! 🤘 thank you for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness. 🙌
Hey Benny, have you tried a PRS amp?
Yes I have! Actually had Paul himself sit me down and ask my opinion on a prototype of the "H" amp, I believe it was.
The links don't appear to be working.
They're probably not live yet from Sam ash. Give them a few hours please! The guitar dropped 15 mins ago so it may take a day. Definitely check back
Sorry for the error but the links are live now!
You look so happy sitting there playing that thing. Hahaha
🤘😜🤘
Geez I gotta buy that .need my collection to grow I might buy a couple more for my grandkids
If you buy it please use the link in the description brother!!!
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist you got it I've saved it and yup July I'll be buying them all 3 grandkids are getting one

PRS website says the pups are the 85/15s, not the 58/15s.
You're correct, and the pickups in the SAS are also 85/15s I just literally had a GIANT brain fart. Oooooppps! Just wrote a note in the description because I did that throughout the video. Appreciate you catching that.
@theneuroticguitarist can you tell us more about that Splawn amplifier head I believe I am local to this guy and hear a lot of good about him.
Nice man thank you!! Thats Awesome!!!!
If they play like my S2 or MA se im sold 🤘🏻
I sure hope you're getting paid by these companies. Your commercials are enjoyable.
Thanks dude! No one pays me but I will thank PRS because after the review they gave me the guitar so I'm totally stoked. Feel free to contact Dennis Bae the marketing manager at Canada Dry and tell him of my awesomeness 🤘😜🤘
Great video Benny! Take a nap haters.............
🤘😜🤘 Rock on Chris, thanks for taking the time dude. I gotta see some of your beauties in person one day. Cheers man
id rather see these as a hardtail though- i grabbed a sandblasted ce24 and it is awesome
I used to prefer hard tails myself but I actually have grown to love the tremolo even more. congrats on the new axe, my friend, I'm so glad you dig it. please subscribe and join the madness 🙏
I’m sure this is my own PRS ignorance but why does the truss rod cover say CE but the headstock says SE?
No sweat brother. CE is for the fact that it's a bolt on construction and SE is that it is an overseas version. There are USA made CEs, as well. Lmk if you have any other questions, I'm always happy to answer. Rock on! 🤘 thank you for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness. 🙌
I am hearing the split coils have gotten much better this year. They used to be so awful people would take it out.
I love how they sound on this guitar although now the more I hear I believe it's actually tapped and not split
Dennis Bae @canadadry did you see this??
I just bought a 12 pack of ginger ale zero after watching this video.
Haha you rule dude!
I make a motion for Benny to be the 2024 poster boy for PRS! Who will second this motion?

Only for the sweeps
@@TheNeuroticGuitarist I know, but it's something!
Nice watch you got there 👀
1981 Rolex oyster perpetual 1002 🤘🔥🤘
The average Indonesian income is like 10k American so ya for 500 I expect an exceptional level of quality from an import guitar like this. Looks like a typical high-end PRS tho like the satin finish
It's an incredible guitar for the value. I played it for a week straight and had to play it next to my 2500 CE24 semi hollow. When you pick them up back to back you can see where the extra money goes in the core line but it's truly incredible how great this thing sounds and plays for the $$$
Also have you ever seen Indonesian carving work. They’re kind of good at woodwork over there.
Yes indeed, they do great stuff. Same with Bali. If you look at Blueberry guitars they completely have the most ridiculous carving. Totally crazy. Rock on! 🤘 thank you for watching. Please subscribe and join the madness. 🙌
Canada Dry , I’ve not seen that in the uk since the 70s. Blast from the past that Benny.
Haha they owe me a bunch of free soda by now! Cheers from Boston 🤘🤘
Where is your green screen with many guitars? You don't likeem anymore?
Those acoustics are right next to the baseboards 😮
I have two humidifiers going. It's 50% RH in the room and about 40-45% directly next to the baseboard.
Good to hear that because those acoustics don’t look like the budget type.
🤯
🤘😜🤘🎸🔥
This axe doesn't come in sunburst..the other color is cherry red. And the pups ARE the 85/15S's...and NOT the 58/15S's
yeah. I'm aware, I was clearly dyslexic when I read the specs. they have 85/15 and 58/15. real easy to mess up 🤷♂️
LOL...I literally was drinking my Canada dry zero when it popped up.
Hahaa the algorithm knows! You should tell Canada dry to send me some soda already! 😜
I wanna jam with this dude so bad🤘

Hey there Benny. That’s a nice lookin’ PRS. I really like the way the grain stands out with the turquoise finish. Sounds good in your hands. I want the tabs on those ascending/descending licks you’re playing. I could pick it up just by watching, but it would take me a little bit longer. 😁 Nice review on the PRS. 🤘🏼🎸👍

Whats up with the neck plate being way off centered? I have looked at tons of them and have not seen one like that.Pretty cringe
I guess the way they cut the neck scoop?
Acroylic you say?
I do!
Would you gig with it?
Absolutely.
Mr. Smith has done it yet again…you could buy that guitar and still have money left over for a case of canada dry cranberry ginger ale 😮
The cranberry is so good. Can you please tell them to send me some? I'd really appreciate it 🙏
That 513 though…

Tone wood😂😂😂
Explain to me how the resonance of the guitar transfers through a wireless system and magically comes out feeling warm or bright as a sound wave through a speaker on the other end of the chain😂😂😂😂😂😂
No 😜
Come on I played one at guitar center and it played and sounded like a $500 guitar
What made you feel that way about it?
Not 58/15S pickups in this guitar - they’re 85/15S - different animal altogether
100% if you look at the description of this video I made a note that my brain went dyslexic, I even reference a video I do of the 85/15 against the 85/15 s against the T and B. Just a total brain fart
It sounds very muddy!
Really?
Muddy?
Not going to lie, it sounds like a $499 guitar. But that being said I would definitely buy that for a kid just starting out. Looks awesome I imagine it feels awesome too. I have an overwhelming urge to want to change the pickups though.
I feel like it holds up pretty awesome, I mean, a 499 guitar can sound incredible, just depends who's playing it. I'm no EVH 🤘😜🤘🎸🔥
Sterling CT50 is better. Try it.
🙌
You keep saying 58/15. Actually 85/15.
dude...I KNOW! I was majorly conflating the two for obvious reason. I have the new Sandblasted SE I'm reviewing and I kept thinking it was the 85/15 and it comes with the 58/15s! this was the one video I messed that up and didn't realize until after it was posted
@TheNeuroticGuitarist sorry man. I was just confused at first. Not trying to make you mad. I love watching your videos.
