It's in their deed agreement "no transients, no liveaboards" but those two restrictions make Pecan Grove the least hospitable marina I've ever heard of.
I'm left wondering what's the point in buying a slip there?

  • @DoRC

I would strongly suggest getting name brand and weight rated shackles for your lifeline. If you fall off the boat there's going to be several hundred pounds of force on that shackle and it would be a real bummer if it failed.

I tried to point that out last week. The choice for attachment points concerned me too. The weight and the water’s drag can pull out any weak points. Having multiple points in the event one fails on impact with the water drag, speed of boat and Sam’s weight/drag…..ah! A math equation is in order. Am with you though…name brand matters with these items.

Get some tent poles and run them from corner to corner (like an X)on the Bimini to give it some dome action. And if you ever need to use it to collect water you can just remove the tent poles

In most of the world, eggs aren't refrigerated. Washing them (as the US does), washes off the natural coating that keeps them from spoiling (but makes them look nice). If you coat your eggs with something like Aquafor, it seals the pores in the egg and keeps it from going bad and there's no need to take up valuable fridge space. Safe journey Sam!

    • @timshoaf1250

I actually talked to Sam at Pecan Grove. Nice guy. We also own a slip there where we keep our boat. It is a private marina not for transient use. I also happen to know the harbor masters. Great guys as well. They weren't "messing " with anyone. Sam was there in conflict of the rules. I believe Sam was unaware of the rules upon arrival and I know the dockmasters were patient and cordial with the situation. Unfortunately Sam took it personal. We have such a nice marina because our harbor masters do their job. Wishing Sam safe travels and sorry he feels slighted. Thanks to our harbor masters for trying to make the best of a touchy situation.

If you can find fresh 'farm' eggs (ie. non-store bought) you can generally safely store them without refrigeration. Just wash them a bit before using them. It is only because the industry washes the eggs that they end up requiring refrigeration.

Those shutters look awesome. Great design. Ahhh! My provisioning curiosity is now answered. Interesting choices on grub.
When you get to the islands and can get fresh eggs, you don’t need to refrigerate them. Fresh eggs can last for weeks without refrigeration. You could leave them out for two weeks to four weeks depending on if they have adequate air around them.
Great to see you are underway. We will patiently await your updates.
    Wishing you safe passage.
Next shall we expect you to surprise us with your declaring you are going to do a non-stop Circumnavigation? You amaze us and inspire us. :)
What do you do for down time once daily projects are tended to?

Eggs in the US need to be refrigerated because of the way they're washed diminishes the shell. European eggs don't need to be refrigerated because they're not washed to the same extent so the shell is thicker. Probably another option would be a can of powdered egg which would be fine for scrambling.
