*SERIOUSLY!* I was REALLY surprised when I learned they were only just now being inducted! I guess I had just always assumed they'd been in there for years and years. It's crazy to me that they were inducted at the same time as Pearl Jam. Journey had already gone platinum several times over and were already legendary by the time Pearl Jam was _formed_. The guys in PJ probably grew up listening to Journey. That is not at all to say that I don't think Pearl Jam should be in the Hall of Fame - I absolutely do - but in the same year as JOURNEY? It boggles my mind!!
Pearl Jam definitely deserve to be in the R&R HOF, love them as well. I had no idea that Greg Rolie has been inducted in the HOF twice already. Do you know what other band(s) he played in?
Journey was eligible and overlooked for 20 years. It was about frickin time. I laugh when PJ and Tupac fans say 'finally' to them getting in, it was their first year of eligibility!!! Gimme a break.
As always, Steve Perry is the ultimate class act! So nice he took the high road & gave props to ALL the band members, including Arnel. Oh yeah...CLASS ACT!
Steve Perry is really a very class individual...he was the only one mentioning Arnel pineda...he's so sincere and grateful to Arnel...and also he dont forget the original road crew of journey ...those kind words to his ex band mates was amazing...Steve is not a self centered person..he cares a lot with the people around him...what a cool guy...he really deserves that standing ovation and applaused to him...sure fans really miss him a lot...now on my own opinion...Steve is journey ...without him....their worth is not as like as before.
This man is a DIAMOND. He is the only member who did not give a long winded narrative about his own life story and verbal resume of his personal and professional life's works. He kept it about the band, the people who supported them and their achievements TOGETHER. It was very kind of him to give the shout out to Arnel. Steve Perry is an absolute class act.
Dream On exactly! that was who was getting inducted. the band called Journey NOT any one person. And with all the drama surrounding Jonathan and Neal now, you would have thought Neal would have remembered that. I hope he gets that cup of coffee with Steve who can and most likely WILL remind him of that.
You know what Steve looks like? A FUCKIN ROCK STAR! That speech showed astonishing humility with that high praise for his bandmates and that shout out to Arnel Pineda. Man ooozes pure class and greatness.
Hello Steve Perry You sure look good to me tonight. Every time I hear you sing I have to listen with amazement. Your voice is par to none. There is one voice that flies above the rest. That is the magic voice of Steve Perry. You, Steve Perry are Journey. You put Journey in the rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Journey would not be there without your phenomenal voice. Without your tireless love and consistent devotion. You've been gone a long time I know, but I want you to know, you've never not been in my heart. And I love you. Thank you so Very Much.
I knew Steve Perry would show up to the Rock and Roll Hall of fame! I knew he wouldn't let his former band mates down but most of all his army of fans! He was there the the Hollywood Walk of Fame and I knew he would be there for The Rock and Roll Induction. This man is an amazing wonderful human being. He is the greatest singer of all time! He deserves this more than any other singer I know. And that is why us fans voted for this band. Congratulations Journey! His speech was speechless and so heartfelt. He is a humble and a good hearted person. His momma raised him with alot of love. And for that we his fans will forever love him!!! Thank you Journey for comming into my life and my heart :>
such a sincere, genuine, beautiful man!!! so deserved this Honor! our new favorite quote " are you fuckin shittin me"!!!! love you Steve always!!! Waiting for your new music!!
He definitely deserved that standing ovation and I wondered what the other members felt about that. He was very classy in saying all of those nice statements about his ex bandmates and manager and even to Arnel. He OWNED that moment and his acknowledgement to the fans was heartfelt and humble. I didn't get to hear the others acceptance speech but I'm guessing that Steve was the only one who also acknowledged the road crew and everyone else who helped them along the way. I love this amazing man!
dvinmf That was great and I'm really glad he got one too as I liked him and always wished he never left Journey. I wish I could've seen the whole thing but was unable to and saw this clip. Did the other members get an ovation when they gave their speech?
ncisducky4ever , The Ceremony will premier on TV, starting on 29Apr2017 on HBO & E! channels. Yes it was awesome that Steve showed up. He's such a nice person, speaking positively about each member of his old band. From his prescious heart, it was so above the frey, especially when he gave props to Arnel.
UNbowed62, Thank you so much for telling me that but I will definitely record that since I have to work that day :) Steve will always be a fan favorite because of his true personality IMHO :)
All the speeches were good Greg Rollie awknowleged the ex manager Herbie Herbert and so did Ross Valory. Steve Smith did a PHD in Music type of dissertation on the roots of Rock and Roll. LOL. Ross Valory seemed drunk, but was funny. He thanked his family. Ainsley Dunbar didn't say much, but did thank "All my ex-wives." LOL. Neil Schon thanked all his kids.
Journey deserved this honor years ago, but I am at least glad if finally happened. I know the band started before Steve Perry, but let's be honest, they never would have had the success or fans that they had if Steve Perry hadn't come along. His voice is like no other. Love and miss him.
Of all the bands I've seen and the number is considerable. Journey with Steve Perry as their front man was musically the very best. His voice is so pure it brought tears to my eyes. He even out performed Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Roy Orbison and I could go on and on. I was truly hoping he would sing but I can't say as I blame him. He's a class act. Journey will never be the same without him. His voice will go on forever.
Obviously, you do not know the background story of what happened and I truly hope you are never in a position where you have to make a truly frightful choice. From your attitude and lack of knowledge, you'd probably make the wrong one. Have a nice day.
Even though we didn't have the pleasure of hearing his beautiful voice just once more, I'm so happy he and Journey were finally recognized for all the wonderful memories they gave us! What an awesome ride! #foreversteveperry♡
technically his band did. his hip was broken and he wanted to be careful bout it but the band wouldn''t let him and tried to force him to get surgery and that upsetted him.
I❤ watching this video over and over again and again, such a classy man with a beautiful speech thanking everyone who helped him along the way to the top. I 😍 every moment.
He definitely did deserve the standing ovation. He was very gracious, and sincere. I can't believe he complimented Neal on his guitar playing. Not to mention, he thanked Herbie. That's how gracious he is. I loved this!!
Karen Walton that's right. in fact...he said he was a functioning f***k up on drugs and alcohol and i wonder if it was when Steve was still in the band and caused his marriages to break up. and Steve once said..."the others were no day at the beach either!"
Can you hear it??? That's Journey speaking.....he will always be the heart and soul of the Band. Don't get me wrong, the other guys are doing a great job, even Arnel is performing well....BUT: Steve Perry equals Journey! Congrats to you all!!
Wauw, the moment he stepped forward the hall exploded, the cheering and shouting, standing ovation for the Voice, wonder how the other band members reacted inside and maybe thought what if...... he maybe cannot sing most of the songs as he used to be , but his voice will still be great enough a few noches down . He can train his voice again like Roger Daltrey did some time ago , the vocal chords must be trained again. I sincerely hope for a Réunion that would be awesome .
...what an absolutely incredible moment...we got to hear Steve for 6:50 minutes...so little time yet he said so much...would love to hear more from Steve...anything...his voice touches so many...back to obscurity he returned...oh how we miss him...
Thank you ncisducky4ever you said it all. Great Comment! Long time Journey fan since 7th grade. I am 49 years old today and still love them ! I can''t say enough about how much I love this band. Steve Perry...You rock! Love you forever! God Bless!
Theresa Suszko, Thank you very much for your kind words :) I just turned 50, having been a devoted fan since I was 11 years old in '78. You're absolutely right that Steve rocks!
I also knew that Steve would show! For half a second, I thought...maybe not...but I turned my mind around and remembered he appeared at the WOF and loves his fans. He graciously allowed Arnel to sing and has said to Neal that "coffee is way over due."
He definitely gave the best speech of the night. So full of emotion and passion, just like his performances. Can't wait for the new album. Sure hope he tours.
classy speech from a classy guy! first thing I noticed from the other members was not one of them acknowledged the Voice that put them in the HOF, Cain acknowledged everyone but him! Steve acknowledged and praised each and every one of them. Second he thanked his fans with such heartfelt love and appreciation. Top notch man! Now of course we all want to hear his beautiful voice again and would love to hear it with Neal's guitar but that is never going to happen. As he had told Cain, if you guys replace me there is no going back. Plus he knows this is Arnel's gig now, why would he want to hurt him or the band for that matter. Just think if he sang nobody would want to hear Arnel again and the band would be back where they started trying to get people to like the new Journey. Hats off you you Steve! As much as I wanted to hear you sing....you did the most respectable thing and walked away. I can only imagine your pain for I feel a lot of pain too. Knowing I'll never be going to a Journey concert. I will be hoping and praying for that album you've been promising. I know your a perfectionist but I'm addicted to your voice and need a fix. Please don't make me wait to much longer. I never seen you live and really, really want to see you perform again. I will always be your number one fan. Faithfully a Perry girl forever! Love that you are looking happy and healthy! May the Lord continue to bless you.
His presence says it all... his speech acknowledged it all.. he does not have to sing.. he is journey! Arnel respects him so much and he, in return acknowledges him and the journey reached its full circle! It lives on.. the band, the crew, the fans..
I love his speech very much! I was waiting for him for a long time. He has a lot of confidence and charisma as always. Hope to see him again doing some new album or something. Love the hug and recognition he gave to Arnel Pineda too.
pure class, a great speech thanking everybody and putting the past problems aside to celebrate a monumental night for the entire band, Steve Perry is a legend
I am so fucking aggravated after all them years Steve didn't do a song with them because if you don't know he Steve Perry, can still hold a note. There was only one other singer like him Freddie mercury.
Whatever his issues are that keep him a recluse, he transcended them. The speech was long, but it was his moment, and he handled it with consummate class, including towards Arnel Pineda who does an excellent job keeping the band alive with his own amazing vocal ability. It's Steve's choice not to share the spotlight, and it's too bad he didn't do something classic and simple with them on this once in a lifetime occasion. Wish him the best, and hope he chooses to do a swan song, or whatever he wants, and not just completely fade away.
I feel Perry did what a Humble Guy should had done...He showed up..with heart felt thoughts..Sing with them yes...would have been great to see...But even Perry has said he is not the Man he was 30 years ago...He had set the Bar so High..no one even comes close...and I truly feel now the 68 year old Perry can't reach it anymore...I would not have gone on stage and took the chance for all the fans to be maybe let down that Perry is not the singer of old...Go out with them remembering you as the great you were...He will release new Music on his terms and in the Range he is comfortable with...at 68..Perry will always be the Great Singer that put Journey on the Map...
Neal cannot get over Steve being there and wiped tears away. he still is posting about how great it was to see him and I have a feeling that this time...a real relationship is going to forged.
I'm 50, In the 70's, I discovered Journey, immediately my favorite band, SP and Journey period till around 2000, I got into Pearl Jam, hard, so I enjoyed life with 2 favorite bands, seeing both in concert, But above all I still favor Steve Perry, after 50+ concerts of various bands and genres, the Journey show in 1986 in OKC was the hands down best music, period, people dancing, people crying, damn, then to see both of my favorite bands inducted on the same night was a pure blessing to me.
Wow!My favorite band,my favorite concerts and memories started with Journey and front man Steve Perry!! Congratulations and love to you all! Don't ever stop believing with open arms!!!-Dawn
Petie Stewart I talked to him a few times. It was 22 years ago, but I still remember every second. Still some of the coolest moments ever. He asked if we met (6 months ago :)

Steve Perry and Journey should have been in the Rock & Roll Hof years ago. It's great they finally are in.

Missile I remember writing at least 4 letters to the ROF committee every time Journey was overlooked. And to think Green Day got in before they did.
As always, Steve Perry is the ultimate class act! So nice he took the high road & gave props to ALL the band members, including Arnel. Oh yeah...CLASS ACT!

Goes to show no matter what has happened to people in the past, some people have class and are appreciative of all that they have been given.
Steve your are a beautiful soul, may love and peace and Gods blessing be with you forever on.
Whatever happened between these guys is irrelevant at this moment . Seeing them together on stage again is great! Steve Perry is the man in my book!
Journey deserved this honor years ago, but I am at least glad if finally happened. I know the band started before Steve Perry, but let's be honest, they never would have had the success or fans that they had if Steve Perry hadn't come along. His voice is like no other. Love and miss him.
This was so emotional to witness live. I had tears in my eyes. What a fantastic night it was.
To see all the guys together again warms my heart. And for Steve to recognize Arnel was very Cool. I Love Journey always 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Jounry sin Steve Perry. Nunca más fue lo mismo. Jamás

technically his band did. his hip was broken and he wanted to be careful bout it but the band wouldn''t let him and tried to force him to get surgery and that upsetted him.
Perry had one of the best rock voices ever.
ChaZacIsa
And he's handsome too. OMG his 70s skin tight stage costumes tho. And that shinny clean beautiful hair. Those were the days!
Jewell Foster the hair is even more amazing than the photos. It was hard not to touch it, lol
Wow. He looks great. So good to see him. And yes he is the voice. Congratulations.
Schon was/is a _very_ capable guitarist, so why wouldn't Perry pay him the compliment?
Neal even had the nerve to say in an interview after that Perry has changed! ....meaning for the better. What a jerk he is. FK you Neal
Steve ALWAYS complimented Neal's playing - he used to say really great things about his tone in particular.
Harold Dutton Neal Schon wasn't innocent about throwing around his ego either.
Steve will always be the voice of journey
Very classy, nice to include their current singer.
Thank you so much for uploading this! Steve is THE BEST Frontman any Rock Band has been fortunate to have.

Theresa Suszko, Thank you very much for your kind words :) I just turned 50, having been a devoted fan since I was 11 years old in '78. You're absolutely right that Steve rocks!
Steve Perry is so awesome.. He will forever be the Voice of Journey. Arnel or anyone else can not ever sing like Steve Perry.
I also knew that Steve would show! For half a second, I thought...maybe not...but I turned my mind around and remembered he appeared at the WOF and loves his fans. He graciously allowed Arnel to sing and has said to Neal that "coffee is way over due."
Steve is still very handsome. Wow what a handsome man. Wish he was still with Journey. To me he is Journey!
He definitely gave the best speech of the night. So full of emotion and passion, just like his performances. Can't wait for the new album. Sure hope he tours.

pure class, a great speech thanking everybody and putting the past problems aside to celebrate a monumental night for the entire band, Steve Perry is a legend
Total class. No words.
oh how i remeber seeing Steve Perry sing in Journey, he made the band, I do so miss him singing
I am so fucking aggravated after all them years Steve didn't do a song with them because if you don't know he Steve Perry, can still hold a note. There was only one other singer like him Freddie mercury.
@Ross Valory some good stuff

I am Filipina girl and I love Steve Perry. you're my one of favorite

Neal cannot get over Steve being there and wiped tears away. he still is posting about how great it was to see him and I have a feeling that this time...a real relationship is going to forged.
