  • This film documents the four day performance which took place at FACT from December 10th - December 13th 2015 for Follow.
We’re more connected than ever before. Able to interact with friends, public figures and even foes over the internet each day, what impact is this having on how we understand our relationships with those around us, and the ways our emotional cores are configured? #TOUCHMYSOUL asks us how we can truly connect with another person across the networks, what this feels like, and how we can be moved by such an encounter.
The collective’s performance attempts to bring those connections into focus, and capture what happens in a lasting, indelible way.
The performance is part of #TOUCHMYSOUL, a project by LaBeouf, Ronkko & Turner commissioned for Follow. While the performance has finished, visitors to FACT have the opportunity to listen back to a selection of the phone calls which took place between the artists and those who called in from all over the world, alongside other ephemera from the performance, until Febraury 21st 2016.

I've been following the work of LR&T, and there is a cynical part of me that comes up and says, yet again, the ego has found a way to get attention. But no, I feel there is something real here. It is the connection that that we all seek. It's the deep eye contact that we wanted from our Mom and Dad as children, but maybe we didn't get. It's the best vitamin. It's the reason why we dress everyday, why we get jobs, it's the motivating force behind nearly everything we do. We try so hard to get it in so many ways...yet it is just right there. Honestly...you could meet many people and go a very long time without finding it. It feels like it is shrinking from the world now. It's so cool to watch a video like this....and be able to hear it, right in that room, even if I wasn't there, I still felt it in some way. I think it is the real cure for mental illness and illness of the heart.

This should open our eyes, about how real emotions through technology can be reach only by a few.

I wish I could talk to Shia now, I’m going through it, have been since my home burned down on November 8th 2018, then my husband passed away on April 9th 2020 and now I’m going through cancer treatment, and I just know his energy could touch my soul.

Amazing! This should be enlarged, it is the utmost needed truth right now, people lack connection, real connection. I felt your aim there, such a good idea! Thanks

I got through to Shia on the phone and my sister had made something for him so she got to go up and give it to him but unfortunately my reception wasn't too good so a lot of the conversation was us saying we couldn't hear each other. Anyway, I hope he had a look at what she gave him; it did have a message from me :)
