It is. I was a Boy Scout, my two sons are Eagle Scouts. We did amazing things. Hike in Philmont (now mortgaged), canoe into Canada from the boundary waters of Northern Tier. I’m so saddened by this. My sons after graduation from college, both had comments by hiring managers that being an Eagle Scout was representative of who they were as individuals. They landed fantastic opportunities. We never encountered any sort of problems. Now it’s an embarrassment to bring it up. Damn shame.

The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are not equivalent. Not even close. Girl Scouts have been super woke for over a decade. It's all about being a Boss Babe and selling cookies. They restructured in 2012 and got rid of all the fun stuff we had when we were young. Very little about outdoorsmanship, patriotism, or anything that the Boy Scouts used to be about. I was excited when they let girls join (they have separate troops for boys and girls) because their badges were more meaningful and a bigger challenge.

We lost BOY scouts many years ago in Australia. They whinged and complained and called names until they were let in. Their reasoning was that girls wanted to do the boy stuff too. The minute they were allowed everything changed. We couldn't camp in certain spots without amenities. All of the really dirty hard stuff was taken off the camps. No more building tents, they were store bought. So many things changed. They couldn't just add the things they wanted to do to guides and wait until Venturers to do the more active stuff. No. Must change Boy Scouts to suit them. Also, can you imagine the outrage if a sacred female space like GIRL Guides was to be asked to allow boys

amazing how we always hear about the male ego, yet women are the ones who assume society will be remade for them on a whim. just like how they want female action heroes to show how women are stronger than men and its misogyny to not accept that women are super warriors, then tell us they should remain draft exempt and its misogyny to force equality on them. the amount of whiplash we are supposed to take...

But they don’t care about improving GS. They wanted to destroy BS making confident, capable young men.

I grew up in Girl Scouts and enjoyed the organization at that time. I was a girl who liked hiking, biking, nature, tree climbing, RC cars, Hot Wheels, Star Wars action figures, whittling wood, and other typical “boy things.” I didn’t need to be a Boy Scout… I was a great Girl Scout!
I also liked many “girl things,” and literally no one cared. No one encouraged me to think there was anything wrong with me or to be uncomfortable in my body. No one told me I was confused.
40 some years later, I still like a variety of different things. My husband and I still watch Star Wars, hike and bike, and have fun with RC cars. He goes with me to see musical theater, ice skating, and the symphony… and enjoys it!
Sometimes he attends men’s groups which I don’t attend, and sometimes I attend women’s groups he doesn’t attend. It’s no big deal. Why force yourself into an organization that wasn’t designed for you?

I was paid Scouter for a few years about 18 years ago and now I'm a dad of an 8-year-old girl who is in a coed Cub Pack, which is for 6-11 year olds. When she completes the 5th grade she crosses over to what was called a Boy Scout Troop which was a boy led program to develop only boys into leaders. Bow they separate the sexes into completely different units so the boys still have that sacred space to be around men and to become men. My daughter will now have the opportunity to cross over into a girl led program in a space only for girls to develop into strong women. I don’t really even know what to say anymore, because it isn’t going to matter. The odds of changing anyone’s mind online is almost zero, and the fact of the matter is that social media even makes that worse because you cannot even say a fraction of what you want to. I'm white myself, parents immigrated in '50s, but I think it's not race I link to work ethic to but how long the family lived in Canada. Immigrants and kids of immigrants have a much better work ethic, even knowing the job is temporary.

I was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader from 1981-2018 ----37 years. I quit when girls were admitted in 2018.
BSA is now a fully woke institution ---to the distinct detriment of boys.
Boys and girls happen to be DIFFERENT. On the whole, boys have particular needs, interests and abilities and girls have particular needs, interests and abilities. They aren't the same.
As a Scout leader, I aimed to have activities which were of particular interest to BOYS. And boys usually ate that up. In addition, young boys in particular usually LIKED not having girls around. Why should the needs, interests and abilities of boys NOT be recognized and organized around?
Girls have girl Scouts. Of course. Women and mothers should be insuring that the Girl Scout activities their daughters find of interest are catered to and promoted. And while that hasn't happened very well in Girl Scouts, it is SURELY happening in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, because even when women can't put together a quality program for girls themselves, they will demand that Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts cater to the needs, interests and abilities of their daughter. At the EXPENCE of boys.
And on camping trips in Boy Scouts, nothing inn the world is going to prevent older boys from having sex with young girls. So lawyers will continue to be able to sue Scouting to get money that should be going to the program.
    It's really disgraceful, and I wouldn't have anything to do with it. In addition, I don't want to be around young girls. The methods of feminism is to attack any man not going along with their program with whatever allegations and charges they wish to make, facts and evidence optional;

When my sons were in the Scouts, 20 years ago, there were girls in the Boy Scouts. The two organizations were quite different from one another. My daughter's main focus in the Girl Scouts was earning money to send the older girls to the Mall of America. In the mean time, they didn't learn to cook or sew. The leader had no skills in this area yet in the Boy Scouts, the leader did teach mending skills. The schools were pushing STEM so I didn't need the Girl Scout leaders to do the same. The leader never taught the science behind gardening or the pests and fungus that may attack. She had no idea beyond a computer and shopping for deals. The Boy Scouts taught survival skills. They learned the different knots and how to use them. The earned their privilege to carry a knife. They learned gun safety and got to go to a range. When asked if the Girls Scouts could join them, the leader said "No, they would get hurt." Maybe it would have been a good time to teach wound care. In stead of going to the Mall of America, my son got to go on a high adventure to the Keys. His group caught a Tuna and they shared it with other groups. He got to go snorkeling. He made real memories. The kind you tell your Grand kids. Going to the mall just isn't amazing.

Year Round School: If other ideas of mine were implemented, teachers unions would virtually dissolve. Knowing how little I think of them, I actually approve of year-round school. Why? Several reasons.
1} Most families have both parents working now. Thus, it is a challenge to get care for the 1/3rd of a year that they are out. This constant change does more than hit the pocketbook, it creates tons of intermittent jobs that have high qualification requirements but pay little and have no career path. Year-round school will stabilize the pocketbook costs, the local infrastructure, and the career opportunities.
    2) Most people moan the death of the Summer break, except, it is not gone. Instead of ~ one week in Spring, ~2 weeks in the Winter, ~120 day in the summer, and some other Holidays, you get three instructional periods of about 60 days each with 3 breaks of about 25 days each (plus 34 weekend days). There is still plenty of time to take trips and do things. Especially in an environment when few parents can get more than two weeks off (I almost never managed more than 1 week).
    3) Summer brain drain is a real thing. 15 years at different levels of education admin from K-12 to college. I used this knowledge with my kids and required them to do things that used that knowledge (often without them knowing). The effects were so obvious that every year, their new teacher would comment on how well they retained the information. Teachers often allot the first month to reiterating the last month of learning before Summer break, just to combat the brain drain.
    4) Two of the best reasons for Summer Break today (other than vacations as discussed earlier) are Summer Jobs and Summer Camps. The two/three months long camps of the 60s are gone. Camps are usually a week long, maybe a month for a very few things. With 5 weeks, those could be done. Summer jobs should be coordinated Internships through the schools. They get class time off and resume building experience. Furthermore, they can get guidance on how it can build their career and work ethic.
    5) Currently, Teachers dislike the break-up of their pay-cycles, but love the long period of downtime. If you went to year round school, it would stabilize the pay for teachers, keep their head in the game (brain drain basically happens to them), reduce the teacher absence, and reduce teacher loss (the long stretches with no break can be grueling to the teachers as well). Most teacher Summer Break activities can be scheduled better into the three periods than one massive period.
    6) The hardest hit would be the Admin. A lot of school building projects are scheduled for those three months. Admin would have to address an entirely new paradigm. Personally, I have another piece of my plan for education that would make this functionally irrelevant, but, that is for another day.

Sad to say, I found out later in life, my uncle, who was a scout leader and kid diddler. Back in the 70’s, in the summer, he had a very successful business that he ran. That it was near impossible for him to take time off for him to spend time with his family. But he would always take a couple of weeks off in the summer to cook for the kids at the Boy Scout meetings. My cousin, his son and I were nvr allowed to attend any scout meetings or we were not allowed to get involved in scouting, at all. Strange for a man to be into running scout meetings, have and wear the uniforms, volunteer etc., but would not allow his own son and nephew to attend. Or have anything to do with being a Boy Scout, again, at all.
I’m 57 now, and looking back as to why he wasn’t that close to me or my father growing up nor did he care to spend time with his own son. Once I heard that, it made sense, in his mind, his own family was off limits for the most part. He probably knew if my dad found out, my dad would do the unthinkable to him. But he did end up touching my cousins, fortunately, he died young at 40 back in 1980: obesity. He was headed to prison if ppl found out. Basically, stay away from scouting. Pervs.

first the camera was a bike helmet go pro style camera so it wasnt distracting him , its specifically for like accidents for proof in court. that being said, if he got into an accident he would be at fault because that was the george washington bridge going in to nyc from nj. . there are signs , big signs , that say bkes should be in the pedestrian area that say cyclists should share the path with the walkers
"Bicycle riding is permitted on arterial and local streets throughout the City even though no designated route exists. Bicycle riding is prohibited on the roadways of certain bridges, expressways and highways."
so basically to put it simply , every street in nyc the speed limiit is no greater than 25 mph. if youre on a road where the posted speed is greater than 25mph that means youre not supposed to be cycling.

In August, the kids went back two weeks early and as things were settling into a routine, they had a TWO WEEK FALL BREAK. How nice for those who plan trips and can afford other things for those weeks but. . .! not so convenient for most people. I was a stayhome mom back then, but for those who had to arrange childcare, terribly stressful and expensive.

This not about exclusion or inclusion, but biological reality that young males need to develop into the best males they can, and young females develop into the best females they can. And many of the things in boy scouts would have been a bonus for me. I liked learning skills. I liked building things. I liked being outside. That isn't Girl Scouts. They are about reading books and learning to be managers and activists. Neither of which are things i ever wanted to be. So scouting. Learning plants you can eat, and how to build fires, how to build derby cars, how to sew, how to paddle a canoe, sail a boat, ski, hike, and on and on. If Girl Scouts had done that then fine, otherwise boy scouts now is Scouting and that other stuff is selling cookies.
