What amazes me is he is actually so obediant and smart already. You can tell he is well trained and already such a good boi. He just needed a little extra help.
I like that these people are not actually bad owners. They're just a little confused and needed a helping hand to point them in the right direction.

@@tomwells8093 not really, commands are just hand gestures. My dog can hear and all her commands also have hand gestures. It was actually easier to train the hand gestures then with auditory commands.
For recall you just get a vibrating collar.
I feel like this is one of my favorite episodes of this show. The owners understood that they needed help, and they didn’t fight against Victoria and her training methods.
I love that. They loved their dog enough to know they needed professional help, and took the professionals advice to heart.

I love watching Victoria work with dogs! We have a deaf dog who was taught signs from puppyhood. Hilarious though, when he doesn't want to "stop" or "sit", he'll look away as we're giving him the sign, and then glance at us with a side-eye as if to say, "I can't hear you!" He's such a little stinker! And a great dog!
My deaf dog does exactly the same thing! She's like a sassy teenager 😅

wow! that's fabulous. my dog is hearing, but a friend had a deaf dog, so I've taught my dog signs. I really like communicating with him that way.

my lab used to do that all the time! mind you she wasn't deaf, she would just acted like if she couldn't see me than she couldn't hear me
Hi, I’m deaf. I watched this RUclips and Luca is beautiful deaf dog. I suggest you both to teach your deaf dog the sign language just few signs like sit, walk, eat, stay, sleep and no maybe few more. It’s not hard to learn cuz few words. I live in Colorado, USA. My friend who is an interpreter for the deaf. She has deaf Dalmatian dog and she taught him few words with signs language. Her dog is very happy and understand better. Hopefully that would help for Luca. Good Luck 😊🤟🏻💜

I had a deaf welsh springer spaniel and she was really sweet . Her recall was me stomping my foot on the ground and she could feel the vibrations ❤

@Shelly Slavek @Shelly Slavek when my dad keeps walking into the kitchen and speaking JUST as he's rounded the corner thinking I heard him walking in... no I never do which is why suddenly hearing his voice clear as day in comparison to all the audio cues I clearly missed or couldn't hear spooks the hell out of me XD and why I tell him every time PLEASE speak before you're around the corner or once I know you're there XD I like to be in control of when and how I consume my horror and spooks tyvm lol
Round doorknobs are a must for pet owners. I know cats and dogs, they watch, they see it move down, and they just or reach up and the doors open. Animals are smart. Round is a lot harder cause they dont have thumbs.
It depends, I have two huge rottweilers and 4 cats, we have no problem with doors
Mine can open doors, but only to one side. He can jump on the handle and push it open, but not pull it. So my dog can get in, but not out 😄
My cat open doors too. I'm lucky that he hasn't figured out how to open exit door yet.
I have two cats and a dog and nearly all the doors in my house are the straight door handles and a couple sliding (there’s no privacy in the toilet someways😅) but all doors to the outside even into the garage and shed are round knobs or handle sliding that are heavy and they can’t open
It depends, the lever handles were engineered to be more disability accessible and you shouldn't take that away if a human member of the house needs it

Dalmatians are awesome, had one and he lived 14 years my heart broke so much when he crossed the rainbow bridge 🌈 They are so smart and active, he would bring me vegetables from the garden (though he would steal tomatos from the neighbor through the fence lol 😂)
I'm so sorry for your loss, I have a Dalmatian and she's very sick, I really hope it's not her time to cross that Rainbow Bridge too 😔

hm, the question of recalling a deaf dog is an interesting one. Idea: a little buzzer on their collar that's controlled by a little remote (not a shocking thing, just a vibration like what your phone does) . So when you want them to come back, you press the button, they feel a little _buzz_ _buzz_ on their neck and they go "oh, time to go back!" That way you can give a command at a distance. If you really wanted to be creative, have it do multiple vibration patterns so you could have one for "come back here" and another for "you don't have to come back, but look at me so I can show you this sign"
I agree. Something harmless but physical to just get their attention like a whistle does for hearing dogs.
I actually had a deaf Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Buddy growing up as a young autistic. We got him as a puppy when I was 1 and we had to put him down due to old age and his arthritis a year ago, it completely broke me and I miss him. But uh- He actually grew to understand some sign language that we would use and he was the sweetest old man ever. If I could get another deaf Buddy, I would 100%
I love these people they knew they needed help and let her know everything that there is because I know she worked with horrible prideful people

The simplest solution to the door opening would be to switch the handles for round ones.
that's what I thought, too. I also felt a bit skeptical about the "reading" bit since it felt like he might have only been stopping because something odd was put right in front of him, but if it works in the end, then I'm glad.
She did tell them to dog proff the door. The stop is also important because he would still be tryng to leave and not realize that he had to stay inside.
And/or put a curtain so he can’t see things moving outside. Same as the car
It's a good idea to teach your hearing dogs hand signals as well because a) they can see from a distance, and b) if they go deaf in old age, as one of my lovelies did. That's the way I learnt dog obedience - voice + hand signals. After a while, you can just use your hands. 😊
Most of the trainers that I know and have seen training deaf dogs use sign language. I have never seen a trainer use a sign that actually has a word on it. I've seen many deaf dogs of different breeds. Dalmatians, Aussies, bulldogs, American bulldog, and other bully breeds.
My mom has a deaf shih Tzu. When I'm there I try to use vibration to get her attention. It works. She's also blind that's why.
The front of their house is gorgeous! I love watching these for seeing the outside houses and parks. The UK is so pretty to me

I love Dalmatians. Our family had one when I was young. Luca learns quickly and he is beautiful. Victoria's technique worked so well to communicate with Luca.

It's so nice to see such a nice couple that you can visibly see make the effort and have the patience, just looking at the other dog! It's really just the deafness that puzzled them and now even that's history thanks to just a bit of a help :)
Vibrate collar for recall 🤦♀️ just vibrates like your phone was made for deaf dogs also can be used as hey look at me so then you can sign commands

The pandemic took a toll on all of us 🥺 I noticed when she came back she looked Alot different and seemed very tired 😩

He did really well, but I feel sorry for hunter. he is well behaved and gets nothing. I think he will do well with this training.
My dogs open doors to get inside but we lock all doors so we are good now
I adopted my lab/retriever a year ago, she’s two, and the best dog…inside. Outside she is very reactive towards other animals. When she sees another dog she loses it, yet if we are inside she wants to be out with the dog, it makes no sense. I’m trying to find a way to get her socialized and less reactive for two reasons. The first being, I want to be able to walk her safely, without worrying she’ll pull me off my feet, or worse get into an altercation. The second reason is that I’m sick, I need to be in the hospital for surgeries and things like that, but it’s been hard getting help watching my son and my little girl. My parents have a rescue dog they’ve had for years, and now bring everywhere since they retired. My dad claims the dogs can’t be taught, but I’ve watching so many of Victoria’s videos I know it is possible when done safely and correctly. My dog has become my best friend, she knows when I’m feeling super sick and in pain, and will come lay against me like a weighted blanket…makes all the difference. She is also my little boy’s bestie, he has autism, and very limited verbally. Within the first three days of her being home he started playing with her saying, “Good girl”! And she tolerates the loud noises and meltdowns that happen with autism. I just want to help my dog because she is amazing.
I feel like some animals just don't have the temperment for other stranger dogs but I do know Victoria teaches distraction techniques so the dog's attention is on you and not the other dog. You can keep your dog calm .

I wonder if there's some sort of collar they could use for off lead. Not a shock collar, but something that maybe vibrates to give the dog the signal to look for owner and get a treat?

that's what I was thinking. you could probably even do something with different (but short and simple) patterns for different things. like one vibration is "check in with me" and two in succession would be "come here"
E-collar! Absolutelly amazing tool, gives vibrations, tried on myself, works great for young and deaf dogs!

I use an E-collar with my service dog!!! Absolutely no shock, just vibrates to let him know I need his attention.

How about a buzz collar to give him a little tickle? You could train him to look to you for a treat with each buzz.
*Moderator* Victoria does not support the use of any collars that use electronic stimuli. There are many ways to train skills without it. With eye contact, for example, you can reward the dog for offering eye contact which is a training method called "capturing." Dogs can learn quickly that offering certain behaviors are worth repeating since it results in getting a treat. This turns into a behavior called "auto check-ins." this can be done with a hearing dog as well- a very powerful way to train new behaviors or strengthen existing ones.

and this is why you have ROUND door knobs and not LONG ones. they could have just changed out the doorknobs. problem solves.
Wow it's amazing how you're able to Understand why the dog is acting that way and act accordingly 🙂 Also I think a cool thing would be adding a color that vibrates To teach the dog to come. I'm not sure if that actually exists but it would be cool Not a shock collar one that just Lightly vibrates and lets the dog know to come.
What about a collar with vibration? Used with a remote to do a sort of "double tap" to say, "hey, look at me!" It could possibly help with recall. :)

This actually has me wondering if you could teach a dog how to read small sentences like "i left your water and food are in the backyard" or "it's time for a walkie".
Not sure why they wouldn’t change the door handles to be round so he can’t open the door. I have a deaf dog and a blind dog. Very open rooms w less things to bump into. Certain tones and words for the blind 1 and he’s very smart and knows UP for a step and Stop to not run into anything and the deaf 1 I use a lot of hand gestures for-like abbreviated sign language. Have to evolve. Each dog is unique.
The owners clearly love their dogs and have trained the other one very well, but there is no guidebook on how to train a deaf dog. I'm glad they were able to get the help they needed.

I mean come on... change the door knobs leading outside to the round knobs so the dog can't open the doors. It saves you the constant worry of them escaping.
Our Great Dane learned how to open doors, and then whenever her usual tactic wouldn’t work due to locked doors or round knobs, she would bite the knobs. So we have a bunch of damaged door knobs

My cat also has the issue of being able to open doors. But all the doors to the outside are knobs instead of handles, meaning the cats can't open them.
my gsd mix used to open her crate and then all 3 doors to let herself outside when I wasn't home. Its scarry! Thankfully they CAN be trained not to do it! She is now a fully trained service dog, and stays in her crate when needed.

does the UK have more liver spotted Dalmatians vs the US? I feel like i've seen more in the UK for some reason. This is the second liver Dalmatian on this show. The first was Pongo back in the very first season of this show. Dally was another Dalmatian but wasn't liver spotted.
