The most difficult part of having a big, friendly dog is teaching them not to be too friendly. All dogs can be lap dogs, some just fit better than others.
That has to be the dumbest thing I have ever, hopefully you watched til the end.
They're more rude than "friendly." And their rudeness can be a safety issue, both for the dogs and the people.
I don’t appreciate little dogs jumping on me any more or less than big ones.
If your dog doesn’t have good recall *don’t let it off the leash* until it’s better trained!
Not just recall. If you don't have complete obedience off the leash they need to stay on it. Any of my dogs can be in full force run towards something and if I tell them to get down they drop like a rock. If I tell them to come back the instantly obey. Bribery is very useful in getting what you want.
Couldn’t be more true. I went horse riding and my horse almost shattered a dog’s jaw because it started to bite and bark at my horses legs. The owners stood by and kept yelling at the dog but the dog wouldn’t listen. Had to learn the hard way.
Exactly!
Plus a dog could still run around and stretch their legs… all the owner needs to do is purchase a long leash.
I own a 50 foot leash that I’m using while I train my puppy with recall.
My other two dogs listen to me, but he still has lots to learn.
And I’d rather be in full control using a leash, rather than put him in potentially dangerous situations.
The dog isn’t a it
Not every dog on a lead wants a dog off lead running and jumping on them either. I have a nervous partiality sighted dog, and walked on .ead and having an uncontrolled dog flattening her is scary for her.
As the owner of 9 Berners in my life, I am shocked by the lack of training with these dogs. They are so quiet and easy to train. No judgement but I am thrilled victoria could help.
Said in the intro they went to training school 😂😂😂
They did go to puppy training, obviously that training wasn't particularly reinforced after they finished...
These two puppers are so beautiful, sweet natured, and smart! Glad Victoria was able to help.
I know I love her shows
"Up to 40 minutes"
Those people don't know how good they have it. My neighbours' dog set a record of 6 hours non-stop barking.
😂 reminds me of my boy when i got him at 10 months. Patience, consistency and treats have turn my Berner canon ball into the best darn service dog you could ask for!
What kind of service dog is he of that’s ok?
I have always had Bernese mountain dog and its strange to me to see this behavior. They don’t usually bark, they are very calm and silent. I have children and she is very protective and gentle. A huge teddy bear ❤
Agree
I got to meet Victoria. Love this Lady she is the ultimate dog whisperer.
How Cool 😎👍!!!!!!!!!
Tears of joy when Yogi did the hide n seek recall 🥹🥹🥹🥹 _Endiamo!!_ 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I have 2 Pyrenees (1 year old) with pretty much the same problems and temperaments...I now have a better idea of how to correct them and get them moving in the right direction. I cant wait to put these methods to use!
How did it go? ♡
These are some gorgeous Berneses! I also love how smart they are, so attentive and intuitive indeed. God, bernese mountain dogs are my dream ❤️
Don't forget you have to do a lot of brushing to keep their coats looking like this lol
@@m6666 lol, I'm well aware. But my type of dog is long haired, bernese or not, so it's a thing that I'll gladly live with. Luckily the hair blower saves lives 🤣
They are the most attention seeking and cuddly dogs I’ve ever met😂. We have one at our barn and he’s always asking for attention and he’s a big goofball! His daughter who’s a Bernese x leonberger is also the same.
The changing recall word + hide n seek recall seems awesome. Going to try that!
I never thought Bernese could misbehave like that. I guess all dogs are different after all. All my life I kept hearing Bernese are slow, docile angels.
Depends if you get it from a good breeder or not
Also got to train them
They were originally used as draft dogs, so they have to have a little get up and go
A neighbor who lived behind and catty corner to me had one. She had a loud bark and would bark if the wind blew!
But they made her go in pretty quickly if she did bark. I felt bad for her because they didn't walk her so she didn't get enough exercise. The fenced in yard didn't help since she barked and had to go back inside.
The dogs aren't really "misbehaving" they're just acting like dogs. All dogs need to be trained to know how to act politely around humans. No dog is born knowing it.
Can we focus on how Adorable these dogs are!!!!😍😍
Yeah, I think Victoria was taken with Yogi as was I. 😊
This is the exact technique my trainer used for recall with my dog. Down to the "yes". I wonder if he watches Victoria 🤔
I never knew how great it was to have a big fluffy dog until I got one 😍 no turning back now
I totally agree! I have a Great Pyrenees/ Saint Bernard mix. Big fluffy dogs are the BEST!!!
My dogs have the same problems- one’s too friendly and the other doesn’t like people. I’ve tried to help, but no one else in the house does anything, and if they do, it’s not consistent method or time wise. Absolutely infuriating at times.
had a run in with two random off leash dogs out in my neighborhood during a walk a couple weeks ago; so glad this lady actually some some concern about, as I ended up watching these dogs and stopping a car for them, still having no idea who the owners were. Saw them go inside to their house and their owner just standing by idly while his dogs were getting into other peoples front doors and such...
i am not good with dogs, as much as i love dogs, so i have no idea how to interact with a dog- let alone, someone else's dog :l
Thank you for stopping a car for them and making sure they’re safe ❤️ I’m happy to hear that they have a home and were just wandering the neighbourhood. I would never let my dogs roam the neighbourhood unattended, I don’t trust people, all it takes is one evil person who will see an opportunity to harm a dog who is without its owner. Thank you for being these two doggies’ guardian angel that day. ❤️
Great to see owners who really train their dogs!
Although Victoria works miracles, those Mountain dogs live in a house in the city ; l cannot help but think that all those dogs are stressed by the constraints of their artificial living environments.
I understand the fear, but most of these dogs have been brought to the cities a long time ago. While their temperment remains the same, most of them are probably used to their enviroments by now. Especially when growing in them. Although it yes it still is important to properly socialise and take the dogs out and let them play properly.
You can tell these dogs apart by more than just the tail…their faces look totally different…
I know right!
And their paws, one has more brown in their paws than the other 😂
Bernese Mountain dogs are very easy to distinguish from eachother! Their markings are so unique! And I can tell, I grew up with these dogs.
I think it was propably included for people who arent as dog savy and would have a harder time telling them apart. But yeah, it is pretty easy to differentiate them.
I know I was like “what do you mean they look totally different.”
I'm so so happy to see this series back, I've been missing the late nights of watching this show :)
Me to
*big dogs have absolutely no recall*
owner: let's let them off the leash!!!!
Bernese Mountain Dog is gentle giant. They are really sweet. That's why trained them easier than other big dogs.
Aren't they just gorgeous, I've never seen these dogs before. Big love bugs 😍
The best thing about a big friendly dog is that they are so much fun to train!!
I'm not finished yet but really hoping she addresses the "who's this who's this" excitement from the owner at the door. That's totally escalating them!
No way this is up to 96 days. That’s a big big amount of time!
It's almost time. Join me brother
47 minutes lol (right now)
Yogi is just so cutee i love him so much❤
I also liked when Victoria was stroking Yogi and he was just like 😋😋
The owner is low-key hilarious lol
They’re sooo beautiful
I just want to share how much I love this wonderful show and how much it warms and brightens my days. Victoria is such a great character and I enjoy watching her work so much
Me Too!!!! 😃👍
we could be waiting a while besties 😍💕
That dogs gonna be barkin a lot longer than 40 minutes
BAHAHAHHSH
Yeh maybe up to 1 YEAR
17:13 my favorite moment
The music sells it. 😄
These are so fascinating and fun to watch. Dogs are so interesting.
“We love big dogs”
Okay, why didn’t you take the appropriate steps to train them?
what gorgeous adorable puppers
I think Victoria loves these two ❤❤
i wish i had victoria to train my dog🙂🙏
Victoria is a specialist💯in dogs
Great job, the only thing I think should've happened during the training was having someone knock at the door and then using the "stay" command they've been working on when the door opens. It would've been neat to see them desensitized to the doorbell ringing or the knocking at the door and not lunging forward, especially Saffy.
These dogs are amazing 😊
They really remind me of long-haired rottweilers, which was one of my best fur babies, ever ❤ love this!
Such beautiful dogs. :o)
The good thing about the one that barks it won't bite? Amazing and the other one is soo friendly I WANT ONEEE
You never hear that gentle voiceover say “in Huddersfield”, “in Teesside”, “in Swindon”, only the pretty sounding places lol
Hi Victoria, wonderfully done. A big fan of your techniques! Please come to Bangalore, India and have an experiment with my dog, a 2.5 years old male cocker spaniel with exactly the same issues with the difference to the circumstances of very heavily busy streets, lack of play grounds to let him go off leash and 30+ stray dogs (street dogs not owned by anyone) right when we step out our house. If that's something you would like to experiment on, please let me know. Will be a great help! :)
Wow the chances of 1 Bangalorean reading a comment of another Bangalorean under a british dog whisperer's video....
Also, how's your cocker spaniel doing?
Yogi hates his name 😂
Omg the slow motion end 😂
My great dane is too friendly and also has no recall or leash manners. I feel this so much! I'm talking with a trainer tomorrow. Would very much love to get the behavior under control! She failed puppy training due to hyper activity. She's very well mannered at home but that all changes when other people and animals are around. Then it's jumping, licking, and plain ignores her commands. She wants to be everyone's friend. She's just too big to not have manners! I've done everything I can think of and everything I've found online, including courses and everything taughtin all of these videos. She's just not food or toy motivated no matter how yummy they are. Shes mkre interested in interacting with strangers and other animals. I'm hoping through this new company that she'll learn manners. If not, I'm calling Victoria!
How’s training going? Hopefully it’s going well!😊
I hope training goes good for you
Maybe she’s motivated by belly rubs. There must be something
95 DAYS?? goodness
Lovely dogs ❤❤❤
Victoria is the best
Maybe Yogi is Italian, he just needed someone to speak to him in his language! 😅
My dog worked that treat toy out in about 3 seconds,he’s very smart.
I have a lot of experience with Berners, but as a pet sitter, I don't know if I could handle these two. The barking would be...impossible (my first Berner did that in his older years and locked him in the basement to have a friend over and he kept going). But I'm used to getting beat up by them when they are younger (1-3 years).
When The dog understands italian more then me 🤦♀️
It's funny they, like most people, probably like the bigger dogs for a "sense" of protection. However, most dogs will not attack unless they are specifically trained for the task. Otherwise, good luck to you, mate!
George, and his Wings on a prayer band.
My dog is the complete opposite to these she NEVER barks (only on command) shes wery well trained!
I remember my parents saying Lady overprotective dog she made sure nobody bothered us
Lady was my oldest brother dog she was a Rottweiler
Who is waiting for this
Me😳🤭
Beautiful dogs!!
I swear that woman would sound American 🇺🇸 1 second and then full Irish ☘️🇮🇪 the next lmao
That’s what I was thinking.
Pretty dogs
Not me check how much longer I have to wait for the new episode.🤫🤯
I love big fluffy dogs ❤
Victoria amazing 😍
Yess i found the full episode
Why can't we have those takeaway windows in the US?
Great video!
That was wonderfull
tell me that date is a mistake 😭
i hope it is lol
it isnt. she has lined a bunch of episodes up, look at her channel. i wish it was a mistake.💀
@@kateat2 oh no🥲🥲🥲🥲
Is it possible to stop dog barking for nothing ? What is the best method?
Yes it is. The approach used depends on WHY the dog barks. A nervous dog needs to be reassured, while an excited dog needs to learn impulse control. In all situations only positive reinforcement should be used!
Stay should be implied with sit when proper training is done
I absolutley hate these people who let their dogs off lead with no recall. Even if they do have recall i dont like it cos every situation is different. I've seen off lead dogs bitten by on lead dogs because of the way the run up. Not every dog wants to be your dogs friend.
Why is the dog off leash in the first place at all? He has not yet earned that privilege 😑
I'm not sure I would put Saffi away either, at least not indefinitely-avoiding the rehearsal is good but it also doesn't teach her a more confident alternative behaviour. I'd have her on leash in a bed/place stay going forward, maybe move the food Kong inside as well and she can also observe Yogi's interaction/desensitize to guests- but avoiding forever just leaves the anxiety for later or when an unexpected doorbell happens and no time to pop her in the garden first. I'm sure next steps were taken for ongoing progress. Avoiding the initial door trigger is great to reduce that state of arousal in general for sure lol
I love charging up a new recall cue, totally common that "come!" means a game of tag or ignoring for a lot of dogs 🤣
They let the dog off leash in a save environment for the show and for showing Victoria exactly how it happens. Also dogs don't understand privilege. As for the rest of what you say, the pure fact you go against what Victoria has said to do as a world-renown dog trainer/expert speaks volumes. You also have no idea how anxiety works whatsoever. Please go learn more about dogs and how to *properly* train them.
@@Eventide215 ah yes, for the show 🙃 case by case basis. Not one way to train, if it works for dog and human, then that's great. I explore many channels and sources, no harm in absorbing all possible approaches, forever a journey there is not one way to manage anxiety, in dogs or humans. Yes this is the way Victoria trains.
Dogs may not understand "privileges" as we humans see them, but they understand reinforcement and that is precisely what they are and can be just as valuable as food, toys, affection for some dogs too. Giving too much to soon can allow rehearsal of unwanted behaviours, and build habits- so it can prevent that proactivey, especially from a young puppy. I use strategies like this with my clients regularly to modify behaviours as well- especially for those tough dogs that may lack motivation for other things. Never a one size fits all!
And I may start with some ways she did, until other strategies are implemented of course. It doesn't show the entire process ongoing which I am sure was much more intricate.
@@joyfulk9services Again, the fact you literally went ahead to act as if you know something better than one of the best dog experts means I wouldn't ever dare hire you.
There is actually harm in "absorbing all approaches" because *many* approaches are harmful. What you suggest is to put an anxious dog on a leash and force it to watch the other dog and how it interacts. You claim social learning, but what you're doing here is actually forcing an anxious dog to stay still which isn't good for anxiety. You're not defusing the situation you're just forcing the dog to stay there and not react. Your entire situation of what you said you'd do is absolutely horrible.
You also mention "..leaves the anxious behaviour to fester for later" which again just shows off you know literally nothing about anxiety in dogs nor people.
If you're going to name yourself "Joyful Dog Services", please go actually learn how to properly train a dog and to have joyful dogs. Not force an anxious dog into an anxiety-producing situation to try and force social learning.
Oh and also yes there are many approaches you could do *correctly* for an anxious dog. The one Victoria used was one of the simplest since she doesn't just arrive alone.. it's her and a crew. Oh and social learning by the way only works on an inquisitive mind not an anxious one. An anxious mind isn't going to learn *anything* other than how to escape the situation.
I am a dog trainer. I do the same thing with the toys in my training and dog piazza
Ugh this just makes me want a Bernese more. Rip my wallet
So funny 🤣😆😄
Hi
How to get dog to come to me with out giving him treats
Beautiful dogs ngl, but oooh god
What do you do if your dog is deaf and is constantly barking
*moderator* That depends on why the dog is barking. It's very important to figure out the "why" behind the behavior first because every behavior has an emotion and a need behind it.
@@melissagoodman1833 I was walking her on the leash and she was just barking no one was around. And she barks when people come over. She doesn't act scared, but when she barks she lifts her head up on the barks and barks
I have a Bernese mountain puppy he is a baby his name is Rocco he is 1 year old he is a puppy puppy and so cute.💜💜
My dog barks a lot
So they loved them, but didn't bother to train them.
❤❤❤
I have an anxiety attack when my dog barks at the door bell. This would have me on the floor on my side rocking back and forth in the fetal position crying.
I kinda relate, I cannot handle when my dog barks at all when people are over. He’s gotten better, but it’s something that makes me incredibly anxious and my legs start to shake really badly for no reason. It’s one of my only problems with him
@@ItzCornucopia If a dog barking gives either of you anxiety it sounds like you shouldn't have dogs or go get a hold of your anxiety..
@@Eventide215 it’s not as bad as it sounds, it’s mainly that I just can’t handle how he acts when people come over. In public he never barks, even when barked at (he’s my SDit, so he’s trained not to) but in his previous home he was never trained or socialized, and lived in a very secluded area, so he’s still learning what to do when people come over, I just get extremely stressed when people come over, and his bark or barks in the background really don’t help my anxiety in that kinda situation. Especially since I’m now 100% responsible for his training, and everyone used to blame me a lot when we first got him and he and I were still learning how to begin training at the time. Ig it’s just still fear of being judged as well ig 🤷♀️
I’m sorry for the long reply 😅
My little boy doesn't bark, but bc I'm always at the back of my house I could never hear if someone was at the front door. So I taught him to bark when someone's knocking, yes he gets excited but he stays on my heels while I'm going to the door and as soon as I open the door he stops barking.
A dog barking isn’t that bad
Find 😭😭😭😭😭😭
well folks, we are gonna be here a while
At the beginning these dogs weren't well trained at all!
The dog displays unwanted behavior and what do they do? Pet them "to calm them down" Wich tells the dog "this is what I want, good job"🤷
Lake us a good job end hard ples lake here
Oh come on! Berners are so easy to train. Just put in some consistent effort.
And exercise them.
J'aimerais une vidéo avec une famille qui adopte un chien. ❤🩹Merci Victoria
They are gorgeous!! Here in the US most Bernese Mt Dogs are so dreadfully over weight, it's sad.
I’m sorry if a Berner is misbehaving it’s definitely a training situation
We love our Dogs but…..we don’t know how to attain them….Training Dogs (very gently) the basics is so easy…..it is the Owners who don’t get it & naturally they blame tge Dig/s. I have Volunteered in a Council Shelter….every Dog is taught to high 5, Sit & walk calmly on a Leash. Most Dogs that arrive have had no Training….they are taught the Basics & Rewarded every time….& the Dogs from small to very large learn fast - people don’t credit Dogs intelligence.
Prime example of people getting dogs they can’t handle.
What in God's name have the owners done to these dogs? I have known MANY Bernese - and they have never been anything like this
