Awww these two remind me so much of my husband and me when we were younger. Funny thing is our first dog was named Odi. Sadly he passed away in Summer at the age of 14 ☹️

Yay Obi! He got a great new home. If I ever get my own house the first thing I’m gonna do is adopt a dog. To really make a house a home you have to have a pet especially a dog.

Aw from an elderly lady he loved; he would sleep with her and probably was never really told off or locked up or alone. Hes terrified as hes only ever known a little old lady. This is my biggest fear that my dog wpuld go through that. He probably feels so scared and in jail. That elderly lady probas been talked into a carehome its v sad. My ONLY retirement and old age goal is to NEVER go to a carehome and die naturally at home but i probably wont have animals so old just due to leaving them its too sad unless i had a daughter or smth whod take him

She went into care, meaning she likely doesn't have full use of her mind or body anymore.
That’s not fair she’s probably heartbroken too that she has to give him up some dogs end up neglected in situations like these because the owner just can’t take care of them. My heart breaks for the both of them they both lost their best friend

I totally disagree that they changed the dogs name from tiny to obbey , just to suit themselves from their hobby of star wars the film, it all should be about the dog and the dog only , afterall people wouldn't respond to a different name half way through their life to the name they was given at birth, this just goes to show that they are only thinking about themselves of what they want and not even considering the dog whatsoever ! Although they are probably good people and I can only hope that they will treat the dog with the love and respect he deserves
I think that dogs only go by sounds,like Larry and Harry. It wont take him long to recognize his new name. Hopefully he'll be treated like the prince that he is.
@@duaneross9271 i think that you are totally missing the whole point of what I was saying , it is supposed to be ONLY ABOUT THE DOG and NOT about the dogs new owners, the new dog owners are ONLY THINKING OF THEMSELVES and what they want without thinking about the dog but only their own interests and hobbys first , just to be fashionable, which is sickening ! Totally SELFISH PEOPLE and they should be ashamed of themselves !
But what about strays? Strays are often pets who are dumped when they get old, the people get bored with them, or they have costly medical issues arise. These dogs are given names by the shelters that they likely never had before and they may only have these for a few days or a few weeks until they are adopted and are given likely a third, or fourth, name. I have adopted dogs who have ranged from 6 mos (shelter guessed his age based on his size/breed/teeth) through 6yrs old. In some cases the shelter changed the name because they didn’t know what it was, in others (such as my current dog) they didn’t. In the case of my current dog, I kept the name they had because I liked it. While I appreciate the compassion from which your feelings regarding changing the dog’s name later in their life come from I can also see the reason why the people may have wanted to do so. Keeping the same name, might also cause the dog (who lived only with the elderly lady) to think that his former owner will come back which is, in itself, not thinking of the dog, especially since the people who dropped him off weren’t the owners.
Naming their dog after a Star Wars character is their choice, while I am not a diehard fan I know some who are and could see why they might choose to name their pet after Obi Wan Kenobi as opposed to say a human child .
The other thing to consider is that maybe they had a dog previously named Tiny when they were younger and didn’t want to have Tiny II. Since this is edited for TV, and even then people don’t share their entire backstory on these programs we don’t know.
What should people do if they find a pet at a shelter and want it to join their family, which includes an already existing pet with the same name? Do you think the other people should pass this older pet up because they would need to change its name to avoid confusion?
In terms of responding to a name, I agree with the other comments that it is inflection and sound more than the actual name that pets respond to. The last portion of both names has the “ee” sound at the end which is the same. This will make it easier for the dog to learn to respond to a new name,rather if they changed the dog’s name from Tiny to George or Colin.
The dog doesn't mind the name change. As long as they are loved and well treated, they will be happy.
